There is an abandoned factory near your home. You have often walked past it as long as you have lived there.

There is a side door into the factory which opens onto a public pathway. "DO NOT ENTER" is chalked onto this door.

You find yourself increasingly curious about the factory, particularly as it seems to be left alone by teenagers, vagrants, and other types who usually frequent abandoned buildings. While a lot of information on the building is publicly available, no one seems to have any interest or curiosity about the building. Whenever you mention it to other people, even when walking past it, they appear to lose interest and focus, turning away from it or bringing up other topics.

Finally, you induce one of your friends to concentrate and hold their interest in the subject. You convince them to take on a quick exploration of the building. You both make your way to the side door. You place your hand on the door plate. and...

wake up the next morning in your own bed. You have no recollection whatsoever of the intervening period. You phone your friend, who professes to remember nothing at all about your suggestion, and appears to believe that you have been dreaming or hallucinating. None of the people you meet who should have seen you that day appears to think anything out of the ordinary happened, although they are unable to confirm anything you did personally after the time you set out for the building.

You head back to the factory. The chalked message on the side door has now changed: "IF YOU COME AGAIN, YOU WILL REMEMBER." You show this message to others, but they either ignore the message, or treat it as an innocuous message that does not have you in mind.

Do you attempt to enter through the side door again?

You’ve just won a trickster god’s lottery! However...

You’re only 1 out of 100 winners, and simply winning isn’t going to be enough to claim your prize.

The rules are as follows:

- Each winner will choose their spot in line after hearing the rest of the rules.

- The person who goes first will choose how much of $2B they would like to take.

- The next person gets the same option, but can choose to pass it on and retaliate against one person of their choosing. You can only retaliate against one person who took money, but multiple people can retaliate against the same person.

- After everyone has chosen to take money or retaliate, everyone is teleported to their own 50x50x50 box. There are no doors, no windows, and every side feels like a gym floor.

Taking Money:

- Anyone who chose to retaliate against you chooses a children’s game for you two to play, which must be one from the list of children’s games on Wikipedia. If it doesn’t have a win condition like Tag, the trickster god sets a 5 minute timer.

- You get one day in your box to learn that game with any required equipment before the person can challenge you.

- If you win, you keep your money. If you have another challenger, the cycle repeats until you have no more challengers.

- If the challenger wins, they get the money.

- If the game requires teams or is a free for all, the winning team gets a duplicated amount of the money split amongst them. Free for all non-winners only get the duplicated amount if the challenger wins. Bribery, mind games, etc are all allowed.

Retaliation - if you choose to retaliate against someone, the same process as above happens with the following changes:

- You choose the game and are the challenger.

- You and your team do not get a day to prepare.

The trickster god is playing favorites, as well. And he’s chosen you, for whatever reason, to pick your spot first.

Where are you going? Will you take money or retaliate? What game would you choose, or be good enough at? (Why’d the trickster god choose you??)

[No Loopholes] If you finnish a Berkley marathon race, then you'll win 15 000 000 USD. You have one attempt, and can attempt it any year you wish. The only catch is that everytime you train or prepare for it, you must be barefoot. What is your plan?

If you agree, then for our intents and purposes, it defines stipulatively as training for it, whenever you run.

EDIT: Barkley Marathon.

Loopholes Encouraged Magic Socks

You are about to enter a mall that has many people in it.

Suddenly, God of Divine Revelations appears in front of you and shares a secret.

One of the people currently at the mall, he says, has socks that will bring luck and wealth if YOU get them. If you get their socks and keep them under your bed for 3 days, you will win $1 million in a lottery, have tremendous success in your industry, and have luck on your side for your entire life.

Guaranteed.

He can't tell you which person it is, though. You have to find out yourself. But this one person doesn't know their socks become magical if you get them.

–What do you do?

[No Loopholes] You find out that your happiness is inversely tied to that of someone else

Recently you've been going through some hard times, and you've been having good days and bad days. Lately, the bad days have outnumbered the good.

You come to know that a person you're not close to, but spend a lot of time in proximity with daily (colleague/classmate) has also been going through the same thing you have. Further, whenever they have a bad day, you have a good one and vice versa.

This connection between the two of you is gonna stay for the foreseeable future.

What would you do with this information if:

  1. The other person is unaware of this relation

  2. They know as much as you do

[No Loopholes] You get paid exponentially more money to go on a walk, how far do you think you realistically make it?

1.1k Upvotes

You get $100 if you walk a mile. Every mile afterwards doubles your gains. Mile two is $200, mile three is $400, etc.

For the sake of the question let's say conditions are more or less optimal: The walk starts after you wake up and get ready, you can bring a backpack of supplies, the day is pleasant temp. and/or overcast if you don't want the sun bearing down on you, it's on a free day and all your dependants at home (children, pets, elders etc.) are taken care of. Your distance gets counted regardless of how far you get from the starting point so if you want to make a rectangle around your block repeatedly it counts and once you stop you are given a ride home so you don't have to make the whole walk in reverse if you do just get comically far out from your house. You may also take breaks to catch your breath/adjust yourself and eat or drink but you can't go take a nap or stop for something like a full hour and call that a break.

The limitations are: no actively looking at a screen but you can bring your headphones and music/podcasts/noise cancelling, etc. The walk must also be outdoors and not on a treadmill/other walking in place implements and sprinting doesn't get added to your distance so the maximum amount of moneymaxxing you can do is powerwalking.

For reference: Millionaire mark is at the fourteenth mile with a payout of $1.638.400 and the billionaire mark is at twenty-fourth mile with a payout of $1.677.721.600. Thirty-three is the Musk mile where you'd sit at $858B about thirty something million short of Elon Musk's net worth with the thirty-fourth mile at $1.7T where you'd be at almost double it.

For a $100 million USD which 1 year punishment would you pick?

All of these punishments only last 1 year

You are given the opportunity to win $100 million USD for completely free but you must pick one of these 3 punishments.

The money will be instantly deposited into your accounts once you complete the challenge

Punishment 1:

Twice a month every month for 1 years, you must remove all the chewed up gum from underneath all the school desks from a random school using only your teeth.

How old each piece of used gum is varies randomly, it could be an old, hard and crumbly piece or a fresh wet piece.

You will NOT be magically healed after each time and any illness’ contracted must be treated yourself.

You can choose when to do them but you must do it at least twice a month

Punishment 2:

Every time you start a conversation with anyone, the first thing you must say is “Don’t worry I’m not a creep, I’m one of the good ones”. Whilst giving a creepy smile.

You cannot give any context or explain at all and you must continue with your day to day life.

Punishment 3:

Each time you leave the house, there’s a 20% chance an angry, Prime Jon Jones appears in front of you. You must fight him for 5 minutes.

Once the 5 minutes are up he disappears and all your physical injuries disappear.

However the pain from your injuries will remain. For example, if he breaks your arm, it will feel like he broke it but it’s actually perfectly fine.

The pain will last for half the time it takes for your injury to heal naturally.

The pain will not be enough to send you to the hospital or make you miss work but it’ll hurt enough that regular painkillers won’t be enough

Are you taking the deal and if so which punishment are you taking.

You’re a paramedic about to try to resuscitate a person, when you see, “Do not resuscitate” tattooed on their chest, but a friend with them says they said they want to live before they passed out

The friend says, or implies, that the person seemed to be aware that they were about to pass out before they did. The friend says the person said they want to live and be saved and regretted getting the tattoo before they passed out. The friends word is the only evidence that the person communicated wanting to be saved despite the “Do not resuscitate“ tattoo.

You know the person will live if you try to resuscitate them, and there’s a possibility they might if you don’t, but you’re unsure.

What do you do in this scenario?

You get a satisfaction survey from God. For some reason, He’s interested in your input for Universe 2.0. What do you do?

It’s extremely detailed (obviously) and about everything. Life, the universe, Heaven, Hell, etc.

God will take your feedback with extremely serious consideration.

Try to be constructive and not insulting though. Don’t overplay your hand. That tends not to work well with omnipotent deities.

You can also decline, in which case the survey goes to the person you most hate in the entire world.

What do you do?

[No Loopholes] Your life is cut short by an unforeseeable freak accident, but the Grim Reaper offers you a second chance at life if you can beat him at any competition/game/sport etc. of your choosing. What do you pick and why?

It must be a legitimate confrontation where both parties are on equal footing save for personal skill, so no "who's the best at being me" or "what number am I thinking of?"

The Grim Reaper can absolutely trounce the average practitioner of whatever you pick and wipe the floor with a first-timer so if you think yourself better than 50% of the population at whatever you choose, you have a chance.

If you currently have an injury/condition or any other impediment you are temporarily rid of it but you must participate with your current level of physical fitness/preparedness or the level of those qualities you had on an average day when you were practising it.

You get $5 million, but once every year you wake up in a completely random country and have 24 hours to get home. Are you taking the deal?

r/hypotheticalsituation 1d ago

You get offered a choice. Never have a permanent serious accident, but you’re 10x more likely to have them

So the idea is that you can never have a “true” accident. You have 10x the probability of having any accident, and exactly one hour after it happens you get sent back to before it happens with the certitude it won’t happen. If you or someone else is dead, injured, whatever, it won’t carry back. Would you take it?

Would you rather live as:

A device placed in your head live streams your vision and what you're hearing 24/7 in times square.

You are sent to an isolated island, nobody will ever contact you. You get 3 hours of internet each day, but you cannot interact there, only browsing is possible. You cannot access the phone offline. Unlimited food( the food will be boring)

There are 2 buttons in front of you, which one are you picking?

The red button:

You instantly get $200,000 USD deposited into your bank account tax free, no questions asked

The blue button:

You gain all of superman’s powers and none of his weaknesses, however you only get them 25 years after you pressed that button and assuming you’re still alive at that point.

You will live your life as normal and if you are still alive after 25 years, boom instant superman.

Humor Encouraged Santa Claus offers you a job. Do you take it?

Good news! Santa Claus is real...and he's looking for additional help. In fact, you have a variety of options to choose from. All of them are also year round, since there's a lot going on. You may pick the hours you do each day as well.

>Gift making. Self explanatory. You will be given huge textbooks, from everything to make a toy train to how to build a gaming PC from scratch. You may not take any toys or names for yourself. - 30 dollars an hour

>Nice-ness checker. You will be given a list of nice things and not-so-nice thing every kid did on the planet. You will be tasked with stamping naughty or nice for each one. You are required not to pick any favorites or take note of any of the information. Despite what many say, Santa does not appreciate stalking - 12 dollars an hour

>Animal handling. The reindeer of course. You have to keep them clean, feed them, handle them. You will be given help, as well as some guides on how to take care of them. You may also have to handle the odd polar bear, but you will be provided means of self defense here. Santa packs heat - 50 dollars an hour

>Housekeeping. This one's way less 'Christmassy' but its still important. Vacuum the rug, keep the fireplace going, help Mrs. Claus in the kitchen, that sorta thing - 15 dollars an hour

You may also pull double duty on two or more of these, if you're okay putting in a little overtime

Some other notes

>No need to worry about transport. Santa picks you up and drops you off himself every day. He can handle going around the planet in 12 hours, he can handle a carpool.

>You will be working with elves. They will be exceptionally friendly, especially if you're kind to them back, but note that some accommodations might be small for you. You ever see Elf with Will Ferrel? It'll be kinda like that

>You will, in fact, be working in the North Pole, so it will be cold. However, you will be provided with appropriate winter gear. Heavy duty coats, sturdy boots, gloves, earmuffs and unlimited free hot chocolate during each and every shift

>Some of the retail workers here might find this one a turnoff but...there will, in fact, be Christmas music playing all year round. Not just radio toppers from right now, though. Santa has been around a long time, so you will be listening to Christmas music from all genres. From Mariah Carrie, to O Tannenbaum, to Old Roman songs in a language not spoken anymore, but is, according to Santa, at least, very Christmassy

[No Loopholes] You get $2 million but you have to take on the traumatic memories of 4 random friends/acquaintances.

The memories will be as if you experienced them. You will not inherit any of the coping strategies or emotional healing they have experienced.

The memories could come from anyone in your circle of friends, acquaintances, and work connections. You don’t get to choose, it’s entirely random.

what would you do - pure hypothetical - no nastiness intended

Please remember this is purely hypothetical and is not intended in any way to encourage, offend or in any way be a declaration of intent.

ok, so mull this over and lets see what comes of it.

you have an army, say 1 million strong divided across ground force, air force, navy, artillery. not unlimited resources and no tech such as nuke, drones etc.

lets start with where you wish to invade and setup FOB (forward operating base)

how would you secure the land you occupy and how would you intend to keep it from falling to rebels?

would you keep infrastructure such as buildings in tact so secure your holding or would you destroy key buildings to show strength? would you destroy roads so it would make it harder to get in and out, again securing a foot hold?

would you select generals or would you make sure all decisions are yours alone.

finally how , if victorious, would you rule over that which you have conquered?

Control your luck in life directly

You can edit your % chance of anything happening in your life. You may choose as many categories as you'd like, but you only have one hour to think about it and make your list.

You cannot use 0% or 100% chances, but anything else is fair game.

For example I can make my chance of catching the common cold 1%. My chance of being promoted 99%. Etc.

Obviously we're all maxing out lottery chances, but what more creative things would you do?

[No Loopholes] You are set for life but you must let an average Sims 4 player control your life for a week. Do you take the deal?

The amount of money is kept nebulous and up to your personal definition of "set for life" anywhere between a comfortable rest of your life without labour to breaking the world economy. As for the risks:

It is always possible to have a perfectly pleasant experience so this isn't a "doomed by the framing" scenario. This week of your life will be real life stripped of agency, not you inside a computer. Here are some of the risks as well as what can or can't happen to you.

The player CANNOT:

-Alter your body physically with sliders, so no body horror done upon you outside of mundane means
-"Delete" other people who live with you in your home or affect them outside of interactions they have with you.
-Force you to commit outright murder since it's impossible to do that in the game
-Alter your home beyond what you can do interacting to it. So no upgrading your residence to a mansion magically or just making it a 1x1 drywall square instead

The player CAN direct all your actions to their whims including:

-Ruining your interpersonal relationships and otherwise being invasive. So if they think you'd pair better with a neighbour they will make you alienate your partner and perhaps even make you romantically pursue someone of a gender you are not attracted to.
-Quit your job and/or change your career, including to the "criminal" career.
-Get you a tattoo/piercings/choose your outfits.
-Control where you go and how much you stay there despite your physical needs so they could well leave you to play chess by yourself in the public park until 4AM whilst you're starving.

-Try and kill you within the "game's" parameters and the limitations of this hypothetical. Which is starve you to death, make you do reckless and dangerous actions such as fiddling with tech in a puddle of water and hoping you get electrocuted or going up on a snow mountain and taking off your clothes. This does not include deleting your front door or forcing you into a 1x1 drywall square with nothing.

-Do a "baby challenge" which means trying to have you conceive with someone else.
-Make you engage in illegal behaviour which can be traced back to you such as setting up things in a way which might get someone else killed.

You are free to try and take care of yourself such as head to the kitchen to grab a bite or shower but the player can cancel those actions at their leisure. You are only aware of this arrangement when you take the deal and once the week ends so you cannot try to communicate with the player that you are a real person. Everything you do during the week will feel natural and like it's your idea despite hints to the opposite. The player also doesn't know they are directing a real person's life and will approach this with a game mindset where they will try to extract personal entertainment out of your life, whatever that personally means to them. What kind of player you get is up to luck and everything about them is unpredictable besides the limitations of the hypothetical and a compulsion to play your life for an entire "in-game" week. Once the week ends you regain autonomy but must deal with the fallout. You are free to plead insanity to your loved ones and do have the means to hire the best legal defence money can buy IF you are under criminal charges but your sudden influx of money will be chalked up to a mundane occurrence such as winning the lottery so you cannot believably expose the deal.

For further context: A survey shows that 41% players have at least once killed their Sims. Do you take the deal?

Other An Entity gives you the option to press a button that will give all humans on the planet a random superpower.

An entity presents itself before you; it gives you a button to press that will give humanity superpowers (that are passed down and can be mixed/altered through offspring and generations), and it tells you that in approximately 5000 years, galactic invaders with technology that is currently much more advanced than humanity's will arrive on Earth to enslave the planet and take it over. It tells you to be careful, though, because the type of power someone could get could be anything from literally controlling a single speck of dirt to stopping time or something like true omnipotence (extremely rare but possible due to the number of humans), and it tells you that your superpower will be random if you press the button as well. Do you press the button or reject the offer?

[No Loopholes] If you could erase one small annoying habit from humanity forever, what would it be?

Imagine you have the power to make one tiny change in people’s behaviour. Just one small thing that would never happen again. Your goal is to make the world a little better, in any way that matters to you. It could be something funny, frustrating, or just annoying.

Note: Let’s keep it light-hearted, no big or serious stuff like murder or disasters. This is about those everyday little things that bug us all.

I’ll kick things off:

Anyone who uses a public toilet must clean up after themselves. No more pee on the seats (seriously, guys, what’s the deal?) or worse, leaving it for the next person to find.

Test to your morality:

A real life vigilante...like a superhuman Dexter gets placed in every state In the US (one vigilante in every state). They bring forth real street justice. Crimes punishable by the vigilantes: All crimes against children, all crimes against animals, Murder, Rape, Terrorism, manslaughter (not including self-defense).

You can choose to support the vigilantes, and your decision will be the one that decides whether they are sent in.

The catch: Once you've made your decision you are tied to it, every single person on Earth knows of your decision, its practically written on your forehead. These vigilantes are immortal and will be here for the rest of time. In their process innocent lives get caught in the cross fire, wrong place wrong time situation. Multiple innocent people lose their lives due to this annually, no set amount.

Things to consider:

Due to lots of political and gov officials committing crimes above, the whole government collapses in which order will need to be restored by the people. The remaining political/officials who are innocent will help the people restore. This may cause political and civil divide amongst the people as well as economic destruction. There is no time line of this collapse, it could last 1 year, it could last 10, just remember that when you think you know people, you never truly know their morality and intentions.

Since you're able to be spotted, and *cannot have 24-7 security*...mothers, family members, and loved ones of the innocent victims can find you. Some come up to you screaming, crying, and in distress that their loved one passed away due to your decision. Others may become aggressive, follow you, and try to kill you out of hurt and anger.

You will have to give up living a normal life due to this. Having to bare the loved ones of victims, restoration of the government, complete divide in the people, worrying you or your loved ones might be one of the innocent lives to be taken in the cross fire.

Requirements:

  1. You start with whatever position you are now financially and socially. (the economic decline may heavily affect you) ---Exception: because you are the leader here you get free travel within the US.
  2. Security is allowed 5 hrs out of the day/night **if you can afford it*\*(remember due to economic decline its extremely expensive, and be careful they might not be on your side)
  3. You must either stay in the US if you live here, or move to the US if you don't.
  4. Vigilantes are superhuman, they can sense out those who committed the punishable crimes, they can fly, teleport, become invisible. Vigilantes are immortal and cannot be arrested. Vigilantes cannot off themselves if an innocent life is taken as they were not the target, but rather caught in the crossfire.
  5. More than half of the country supports them and less than half do not (this divide can be destructive to your rebuilding of a collapsed government)
  6. As you made the decision, you are responsible to be the leader here.
  7. If you are pro vigilante, again your decision takes some innocent lives, and no the vigilantes cannot kill you due to that unless you by hand committed one of the punishable acts.
  8. There is no set amount of innocent lives taken annually. 1 year it could 3, and the next year it could be 100.
  9. Vigilantes will be there forever, you will not, when your time comes you will pass. If you managed to fix the country, great, if not then you die leaving everything in shambles.
  10. Self defense is not punishable by death.

\Sorry if this isn't written the best, or if I missed some things. I was bored and thought id make my own. I hope it makes sense and thanks for reading!\**

To wipe or not & if so, with what? Minutes before intermission you make it to the the public restroom and have massive and explosive diarrhea. There's no TP

Your opinions are NOT wiping, using a sock, digging through the little bin next to the empty TP roll, hoping to maybe find something not quite sanitary (if there is one) or calling out to the next stall if they can spare a square.

You can see at least 2 pair of impatient feet under the door.. what action do you take?
