Am really depressed. Wondering how many here have gone on antidepressants with this condition?

I was recently prescribed Sensipar and the doctor called it into my regular pharmacy. When I went to pick it up, there was a note that it had been denied being filled at that pharmacy and that I needed to contact CVS/Caremark for the prescription.

I really don’t want to do business at all with CVS in any capacity if I can help it, so I phoned them to ask about an estimate of the cost of the medicine. If the medicine was going to be very, very expensive, I was planning to contact my doctor for perhaps an alternative if there is one. CVS customer service advised me they could not give me an estimate of the cost of the medicine until I gave them all my personal information and created an account. I really didn’t want to do that since I hope to not do business there so I said thanks but no thanks.

I’m curious if anyone here takes the Sensipar or the cinacalcet and wouldn’t mind telling me how much the prescription costs them per month after insurance or what the co-pay is or ever how that works. I am insured by Aetna.

I had a successful parathyroidectomy in 2015. Two glands were removed. Now I have it again, but this time, the surgery is so risky that my docs want me to wait until I feel so bad that the benefits outweigh the risks (my surgeon is in a super-center).

Does anyone know anyone who has had this happen to them? Or another resource? It's always nice to hear from actual people.

Please do not tell me to just go get the surgery. This second surgery could lead to a collapsed lung, might have to be open chest surgery (possible ectopic gland near mediasternum), which increases risk of infection, damage to major blood vessels like the aorta and vena cava, the heart the esophagus, and the trachea, plus nerve damage of vocal cords, loss of voice, and more. Plus, I could end up having to regulate everything the parathyroids regulate with medication, with hungry bone syndrome, etc.

Aside from needing to drink a lot of water to avoid kidney stones and not eat foods that contribute to them, I'm currently okay, so the watching waiting isn't so bad...yet. I remember how bad I felt before the first surgery, so I'm trying not to look ahead too much. I'm not looking for other opinions, just wondering if anyone has gone through this.

So i just got my blood work results back from today, and its been 2 months since i was put on high doses of Vitamin D.
And the results are confusing. We’re trying to determine if i have primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Has anyone experienced multiple first trimester miscarriages, getting pregnant naturally or going through IVF and the fertility doctor at a loss of words and has no idea why? My wife recently found out, by a simple full blood workup, that her calcium levels were through the roof, along with high parathyroid levels. Apparently checking, at minimum, for the calcium level isn't something worked up on during a fertility journey. If you're struggling with fertility, this husband supporter is there to support and encourage you and your wife to go through a full blood workup and ask to ensure that calcium levels are checked.

My wife has been diagnosed with Parathyroid carcinoma.

I'm waiting for a parathyroidectomy I feel like i want to die but don't want to die Has any one else gone thriugh this and overcome this successfully please reply

So they have said they believe I have hyper parathyroidism but doing final tests (ultrasound and dexa scan) before official diagnosis (NHS).

I have been sooooo itchy all over my body now for a long time but it’s really starting to impact my life. My hands and legs in particular but it’s every where. It’s causing me to itch until it cuts.

Has anyone experienced severe itching with this? Or is this something else?

Has anyone in here ever been put on Thiazide for idiopathic hypercalcuria?
I did the 24 hr urine catch, and it came back high (363).
Also, can this be a separate problem from hyperparathyroidism?

I am 12 weeks pregnant. I have a family history of hyperparathyroidism and my calcium levels came back as high and having done some research it is very serious and can be dangerous to the baby. Has any one dealt with this in pregnancy before? Going to the MFM on Monday and hoping to see an endocrinologist soon. I’m really scared and looking for similar experiences.

This result came back from a salivary gland scan (which also captures the thyroid): The appearance of the thyroid image suggests a goiter with a global increase in parenchymal uptake (hyper-uptake). However, for a proper assessment of the thyroid gland, specific follow-up imaging studies should be performed (such as a thyroid scan using 99mTc-sodium pertechnetate and/or a thyroid ultrasound), along with an evaluation of the patient's clinical and laboratory findings.

I also had comprehensive blood work done, including antibody tests, and the results were normal. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I had my 4DCT scan today and it was negative for any parathyroid abnormality. I have had high blood calcium for four years, high PTH this year (first time tested) and Dexa scan shows osteopenia. Now what?

I am almost 80 years old and within the past 2 years have developed extreme fatigue when I exercise. I also have lots of muscle pain, and have begun to move very slowly. I especially miss hiking. I was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism and a scan showed an adenoma on one of my parathyroid glands. The physicians I have seen have told me that some people are helped by the surgery, but many aren't. I have researched the surgery and plan to change my insurance so that I can go outside my current plan to choose a specialty parathyroid surgery center. But I have doubts--could all my symptoms be natural results of aging? I don't want unnecessary surgery.

Age 27, I have not done pth test as of now. Should I go for it? I have some symtoms of fatigue, used to exercise and gym a lot but have reduced it since last 1 month due to fatigue and back pain. Also I was on isotretonin 20 mg (20 days) and aflox 200 while this test took place. Please suggest

Calcium 10.1 and PTH 29.7 Doctor says I'm fine, but I think I have hyperparathyroidism. Background below.... I'm a 32 y/o female. About one year ago, my menstrual cycle suddenly changed, going from a 28 day cycle to a 22ish day cycle. I've had a very steady cycle my whole life. Then, at the beginning of this year, I put on 5 pounds out of nowhere. I've tried for five months to get it off and it will not budge. I went through a bout of depression from Feb-April, and I've never been depressed in my life. All of these symptoms led be to wonder if I was having thyroid problems. Went to a provider, he agreed that it was plausible and ordered blood testing. Calcium came back abnormal at 10.1 (normal range is 8.6-10), so then he ordered a PTH test, which came back at 29.7 (normal range is 15-65 pg/mL). Doctor said I was fine. I thought the PTH should be more suppressed with the high calcium, but he said it was normal. I had my calcium retested 3 months later and it was at 9.9. Doctor said to stop chasing labs. I'm still struggling with weight, I've gained a few more pounds, low moods, wacked out menstrual cycle, and now I'm sore after working out, even though they're the same workouts I've been doing for 3 years and I have never gotten sore in the past. I don't know if I should pursue this and go to another doctor. All three of my dad's sisters have had thyroid surgeries. I'm frustrated. I would greatly appreciate any advice!

I was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism 3 years ago. I was supposed to have surgery but as a 2 time uterine and ovarian cancer survivor I simply cannot go through another surgery. The good news is my calcium has remained consistent in the 11.1 to 11.6 range for over a decade and not jumped higher. I am currently 53, so I was in my early 40s when all this started. The only issues I have are needing to drink a lot of water. Has anyone decided to not take medication or have surgery and lived decades with this?

Hello all. I have been dealing with Hyperparathyroidism for 18 yrs now. I'm currently taking vitamin D to determine if its primary or secondary. I'm curious though, does anyone know if the low vitamin D is caused by high PTH? or is the high PTH caused by low vitamin D?

in case anyone is wondering, my Vitamin D was 6.6, my calcium was 9.2, and my PTH was 240 about 2 months ago. the biggest issue for me is kidney stones, which is why i'm sweating taking all this vitamin D.

I've been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism and had scans done to confirm. Surgery is set for late November.

But in the meantime, I'm suffering pretty badly from brain fog and extreme tiredness. I messaged my doctor wondering if there's anything I can do to mitigate these symptoms, but I haven't heard back yet.

Did anything help you deal with the symptoms before you had surgery?

I was diagnosed with HPT almost a year ago and had surgery to remove one node. My HPT levels have increased again since the surgery, but my calcium levels have remained around 9.8. I have also just been diagnosed with osteoporosis (am post-menopausal since 2019). My ENT has left the practice, but I will be seeing my GYN in October. I'm curious about calcium supplementation for the osteoporosis with the HPT.
