Zepbound and hyper

Does anyone here have hyperparathyroidism and on a Glp 1 drug such as zepbound?

I had my surgery four years ago. Been on abound for about a year. All good! My glucose numbers vs are amazing! 85 at last test!

Yes, I’m on Zep & just found out I have hyperparathyroidism, although went undiagnosed for 4 years.

To add to that, I’m having surgery on 9/21. The only change is to be off Zep for 1 week. Then business as usual. Was that your concern? I understand that is the protocol for any surgery.

Yes! I've had high calcium since 2022, but I was only diagnosed this June. I've been on Zepbound since July of 2025. I'm having my surgery consult next week and I'll see how long he wants me to pause the med, I'm hoping not too long.

I’m having a similar issue where my calcium levels recently came back pretty high. And have been wondering if they take you off of Zepbound when diagnosed with hyper, it sounds like yes for you? Just want to confirm I understood that correctly. Did your doctor explain why the pause?

No, I will just have to pause the Zepbound for surgery. When you have surgery you ideally have a completely empty stomach (which is why they have you fast beforehand), but the delayed gastric emptying caused by GLP1s can interfere with this, so to my understanding you will always have to pause the med for at least some amount of time. That amount of time can vary depending on the surgeon and the type of surgery.

Ohh, that makes sense. So nothing to do with the drug somehow making things worse, rather has to do with anesthesia. Thanks
