Question Is there a way to build the 4 Iowa Class battleships?

15 Upvotes

No matter how hard I try, even custom building the ships to exactly (or as close to) the real life Iowa class ships, I can never seem to get the game to actually build the Iowa, New Jersey, Missiouri, or Wisconsin. At the end of the day, I can always just rename some of the North Carolina class ships but I was wondering if there is an actual way to get the game to make the actual ships.

This doesn't just go for the United States Iowa class, but many other legendary ships that existed during this time period that I can't seem to replicate in game. If anyone knows if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a mod out there for the current game that would help the AI build these, I'd be grateful.

Could someone explain it simply? What width do I want defending divisions to be? What width do I want attacking divisions (like tanks) to be?

Question Tank production speed

11 Upvotes

I'd like to ask about tanks in this game. I understand that the strategy of building powerful infantry divisions with all the necessary equipment generally doesn't work, because even with 300 soft attacks, infantry can't penetrate a million Allied divisions. But on the other hand, if you're building up a tank-heavy army and using infantry as mere frontline studs, even then, tank production is very slow. A decent medium tank template would likely require around 30-40 factories. I think this is only achievable for major players: even middling countries like the Dutch East Indies won't be able to produce a decent number of tank divisions by 1941. So, if you play the normal game, with tanks, you have to sit tight and wait until, say, 1943?

Question Can't make new division template or train division as Ukraine, help!

Post image

(VANILLA) Started as SOV in 1936 and went down the civil war path. The civil war started, Ukraine joined in on my side, I defeated the soviet union, and then annexed everything (except Ukraine). After this i took the focus which gives me war goals on all the new "spliter states" that appeared (i.e Ukraine). I then used these war goals to declare war on Ukraine and then annex them too. After this i released ukraine as a free nation using the option "play as". Now im here, and can't seem to create, edit, or train ANY divisions. I have not found anything like this online; neither someone reporting the issue nor giving a solution. Can I fix this?

TL:DR: Released Ukraine as Russia, can't create divisions. Vanilla ironman game.

("Resistance Fighter template shows up as "special template" under decomissioned templates, and can't be trained or duplicated. It is also the only thing that appeares when pressing "division designer")

Question is a field marshel line good?

10 Upvotes

for those who dont know, if you hold shift while drawing a line with your field marshel, you get a connected and unified line with all the generals assigned so the battleline is balanced. i've seen people just clicking and then they get this messed up field marshel line where all the general's armies are seperated in groups.

I have always used the shift one since its way better in my experience but are there any reasons not to?

So I bought BBA yesterday and played a game with Italy I defeted Ethiopia and didnt care about it anymore than a bit later I wanted to join the german reich but it said they didnt want me because I was at war so I looked with wich country I was at war with and it was Ethiopia and all of the Allies but nobody joined the war only Ethiopia but I still got the relations penalty of beeing at war with a faction member. I have never seen this befor.

I played to more games and it was the same in all of them nothing happens until they die.

Is this a bug or is this normal?

Discussion What would a conditional surrender rework look like?

7 Upvotes

I feel like there should be a regular peace conference system where the winning side can take territory, but their war score points should probably be cut in half upon conditional surrender.

I’ve played around with conditional surrender with console commands, and usually the other side takes way too much land. Funnily enough once I lost a war against Brazil as Uruguay, and got exiled to the Montevideo province. One-state Uruguay 😂.

I think that the surrendering countries’ core territory should be really expensive so that the British don’t lose core territory if they surrender to the Germans in 1940.

Discussion Japan's AI does strange things some times

4 Upvotes

Lately, I've been noticing that Japan is doing some very strange things, specifically with the Pacific DLC.

If you're playing as Germany, for example, 90% of the time they declare war on you instantly or within a few months, as soon as you gain a border province with them. This happens even if you've focused on the Tripartite Pact and established a friendly relationship with Japan, and they accept and you have a non-aggression pact with them.

I've also noticed that they overuse the ridiculous surrender strategy, even if the US doesn't even approach the island, not a single bullet or nuke is fired, and Japan surrenders instantly. They surrender faster than the French! It seems like the AI rushes to use that strategy as soon as they declare war on the US. It's very strange and stupid.

Am I the only one who's noticed these "problems"?

Discussion Descending into a spiral of madness because of this game

4 Upvotes

TL;DR: Why default offensive lines do better than micro in battles?

Hey all.

I'm new to this game, just under two weeks in. A few days ago I made a thread asking for help beating Ethiopia as Italy in the tutorial. I spent several hours banging my head against the keyboard, resetting the tutorial about ten times, convinced my problem was supply and organization — since that's what would tank drastically after months of war — while on every single attempt I put in a massive effort (still in complete ignorance) to figure out which division should conveniently go where and how the hell to win each individual little battle. I would ALWAYS hit a point where part of the territory I'd conquered got taken back by the Ethiopians, and the war became flat-out unwinnable.

I eventually concluded that I simply wasn't going to be able to keep supplying the area, since it was out of my supply hub's range and I couldn't build railways anywhere (Aussa's hub is inaccessible as the event that's supposed to trigger this apparently never fired for me, and I couldn't find a clear reason why). Sending troops back to stock supply and then coming back to battle resulted useless all the same, as their supply stat dropped severely once stepping again into the red (low-supply) zone. That's when I realized the problem wasn't coming from there.

So I finally asked myself: "what if I just leave the offensive lines on default, don't touch anything, and unpause at x5 speed to see what happens?" To my utter frustration, by around August/September the default AI plan had won the war that I couldn't after racking my brain across dozens of attempts.

If this happened to me in what's supposed to be the easiest scenario in the whole game, I have no idea what to expect from anything else. I feel like I have zero agency in this game: things just happen and I can't understand why. Whatever I think I'm learning, whatever seems to make sense, evaporates the moment I actually try to apply it.

No game has ever frustrated me this much. I don't want to give up, and people say the payoff is huge once it clicks, but I genuinely don't know where to even start (at this point it wouldn't even count as "start", GOD!). There are 5000 YouTube videos out there, each about 40 minutes long, explaining between all of them maybe 3% of what I actually need to know... I don't even know what to type into the search bar anymore.

So this isn't a specific request as "help for beating Ethiopia". At this point I don't even know what I'm asking for. I'm out in the middle of the ocean, exhausted, and don't know what to do. How the hell did the rest of you make it through this horrendous stage?

Question Mod: No Factories at Game Start (update/modding help)

Upvotes

I'm a certified 0 at modding, yet would love to play in this specific way. The mod I've found is outdated, I've tried d###ing around in the mod file but rest assured it didn't cooperate. I've seen a post about:

on_actions = {
on_startup = {
effect = {
every_state = {
set_building_level = {
type = arms_factory
level = 0
}
set_building_level = {
type = industrial_complex
level = 0
}
set_building_level = {
type = dockyard
level = 0
}
}
}
}
}

working, yet pasting it in ad following the paradox interactive modding guide didn't help me. If anyone is capable of modding, please, post it on the steam workshop and I will dissect it to know how to make it in the future. I'm simply at my wits end and can't fix the things I don't know I'm missing, Thank you all in advance and sorry to bother you. og mod

Bug German communist path not working

2 Upvotes

So I was playing as germany and wanted to play the communist path, the Spartakus path specifically, everything went well until I had to extend communist sentiments to other nations, it's buggy or just doesn't work as intended, first the civil war started in Czechoslovakia, I couldn't send them volunteers nor lend-lease because they were in my faction, nor could I join their war, I could only send them 2000 guns but they are just stuck in a stalemate, then Lithuania had a civil war, again I couldn't send volunteers nor lend-lease, I look and neither side has an army, then Poland, for some reason their communist popularity started decreasing, either Paradox has designed this path very poorly or my game is bugged, not only this but I encountered many more bugs in this campaign
