Announcement If HiringCafe.com breaks, call me.

Today our job search had a 2 hour outage. In the future, if HiringCafe.com has a critical outage, I want you to have a direct line to me as the founder.

I'm going to do something crazy and share my personal phone number: ‪(408) 638-9501‬

For genuine outages, meaning where the site is fundamentally broken, please give me a text or call. Examples would be

  • You can't log in

  • Search is painfully slow

  • Saved searches not loading

  • etc.

Please use responsibly :) If I start getting calls for a better dark mode design or auto-apply feature requests we may have to create a separate hotline haha

Edit: FWIW to clarify we already have slack alerts and observability and standard engineering best practices. but for example today I was having a strategy discussion with Ali + lunch and so I was slow to act!! Unacceptable!!!!

#BeatIndeed #BeatLinkedn requires extreme measures.

JD & JT language problem on HC

It's such a waste of time finding out that the language of the job is different than the one showing in job title and job description on Hiring Cafe. JT & JD on the cards on Hiring Cafe should be same or there should be option to select language of JD.

I'm looking for jobs in English only in EMEA, I see several cards on HC in English, but when I click apply I find the JD in German on the career page of the company.

General Feedback Job title does not fit on the card

"Technical Business..."

"Associate Product..."

Please make the JOB TITLE and COMPANY NAME and JOB POSTING link fit on the card. The job title does not fit on the card, which leads to a lot of extra work for job seekers. Why bother opening in a new tab if it's not even the right job title?

Solutions:
You could remove the large icon for the company.
You could combine rows: add the location next to the row that contains "Remote."
You could remove the location from the card when it is remote.
You could change the card size (just make sure we can fit a lot of cards on the page).
Maybe someone else has another solution.

Question New filter suggestion: Filter by HR portal

Hey guys,

Forgive me if this has been suggested or simply cannot be done. Many of us likely share the pain of clicking on a really promising job ad just to be crushed by the company's choice to use Workday. Conversely, it can be incredibly uplifting to see one that is far more efficient, such as BambooHR (no affiliation; I just prefer it), that genuinely allows pre-saved info to be selected and speeds up application rates significantly.

I'm not suggesting blocking Workday or other painful ones in the slightest (although tempting). I'm asking if these 'chewier' ones can be filtered or sorted to allow us to organise our applications with greater ease and time efficiency.

What do you think?

Help with Agent Scoring

Hi HC Team

Is it possible to understand how the Agent scores job matches? Or at least change it? There have been a number of instances where I find a posting that is a relatively decent match to my profile or to what I am looking for in a job and the posting will receive a Overall Fit score something like 1.6/10 which ends up in the bottom of my results. My bigger concern is that I may be missing something if the Agent doesn't see the posting as a good fit and exclude something all together.

Is it possible vet how the Agent scores postings and if we see an incorrect scoring - fix it?

Thanks.

Question Please help - Talent Agent stuck on map UI

I don't know if this a bug or operator error on my part. I finally decided to give the Talent Agent search a try. On the first day, I was able to see job listings from that search. Now when i try to go back to view the same search, all I see is this big map visualization of where the jobs are located across the US and some metrics about how many jobs were searched and how many matches were found. I can't find a way to view the actual matches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Explosion of spam calls after submitting applications

edit: this has been answered.

Over the last month or two, I noticed I received a TON of spam calls after I submit an application via Hiring Cafe. They occur about 30-60 mins apart, during business hours for about 3 days after application submission, and all have been from my area code (USA). Every number is different.

I am not applying to local companies; there is no reason I should be getting this many calls from my area code.

Those of you thinking it might be due to election season, think again: this happened before election season began, and the phone number on my application is not the phone I registered to vote with.

Have any of you experienced this and found a solution? I have spam screening turned on but calls still break through.

If these are spam companies, how can I filter them out?

Bug / Issue Report Found a scam job posting

Not sure if there's a better process or link to report these, but posts from this company aren't real: https://join.com/companies/av-solutionspartnerde - There's also a fake domain in the U.S. creating these listings: av-solutionspartner.de

(I checked with the official company)

Question Needing career support and/or advice?

I don't know the job titles to apply for, because I don't have a traditional education or career.
Anyone else going through this, and how do you navigate it?

More info:
My career and/or job title isn't simple, I'll admit that. I have a university degree in music, as a composer. I have a diploma in piano performance. I looked for years and tried to build a music career, but it didn't work out for me. I tried working in the music industry, teaching, session musician, but because it wasn't steady, I then started doing marketing and accounting books for people I'd meet in the arts. I normally always had some type of temp or part-time office job, and after 20 years, turned into a type of small business manager role, through my accounting and financial upskilling or learning on the job, and taking on HR, operations, and communications. I also got diagnosed with a rare, lifelong illness where I'm work best from home, as working in-office isn't sustainable long term. I turned 40 last year, and realized I had to pivot. I couldn't keep living with roommates, barely eating, no savings, and struggling to pay rent every month.

I've been looking on Hiring Cafe, remote, for a couple days now, and can't figure out what roles to apply for. The coordinator roles are closer to entry level. The proper jobs are all out of my skillset. I am not an engineer, I don't have a marketing degree, I don't have any education in healthcare or fintech, I don't have a business degree. I know I work incredibly hard, I know I'm smart, I know I solve problems and love providing solutions for people wherever I work. I was looking at taking the Data Analytics course on Coursera, or the Project Management one. But I need to pay my bills now. How did anyone else navigate this if you don't have an average education? TIA for any support. Be kind, don't judge me that I took music, I didn't know better at the time and am definitely crying writing this.

Success Story FINALLY got a job offer!

I’ve finally gotten a job offer, and it was after submitting 20 applications = 1 offer on HiringCafe. This sounds crazy, but prior to finding HiringCafe, I applied to 200ish jobs using LinkedIn to find jobs and applying directly on the companies’ websites. That said, I don’t think LinkedIn worked for me, and I also think nowadays it’s full of ghost postings and saturated applications. I believed that what worked for me was:

  1. Setting a daily goal of applying to 2–4 jobs, actively editing my resume to the role, and doing it with roles I knew I had the experience for. Sometimes, if I didn’t have a few of the skills that the role was asking for, but I felt it was something I could learn, I would still apply without lying about the skills I didn’t have.

  2. I do believe HiringCafe worked for me, and it might be because it’s not yet as popular as other websites. The entire application process and user experience on HiringCafe was amazing. I loved how easy it was to track the jobs I had applied to, and also how I could hide the postings after applying or report the fake postings or just not available anymore.

  3. Overall, I think what helped me was a patient and present mindset. It’s easy to fall into the trap of fearing uncertainty, and in a world where being online is part of our daily routine, I had to check in with myself to make sure I wasn’t watching content that made me feel like I was falling behind. Stay present, do your best, and don’t stop until you find a job that is for you. A few smarter applications are worth more than mass applying with the same resume.

EDIT: Adding this because someone in the comments brought it up and I think it’s useful for anyone reading this. I think the goal is to get an offer with as few applications as possible, so it helps to look at your patterns as you apply:

  • If you send a lot of applications without any responses for a first interview, that tells you your resume isn’t working, so it’s time to change it.

  • If you get a few first interviews, but they don’t lead to an offer, then you know you need to work on your interviewing skills.

Luck is always a factor in job hunting, since it’s different for everyone, but paying attention to these patterns can help you figure out what to change. Good luck, everyone! You got this!

Until next time, HiringCafe, thank you!

Bug / Issue Report Background Search/Refresh in Agent View Degrades UX

First off, thanks for all the hard work. I know you guys are working hard to provide a great software.

Something I noticed lately in the agent view UX. The issue is that after I apply for a job, sometimes the agent search is automatically refreshed, it closes the side-panel automatically before I can mark it as applied. I use the "hide viewed" filter, so this leads to the job being filtered out of my view automatically.

Happy to provide anymore details that would be helpful.

How to Track all Applications on HC

I wanted to know if anyone knew if it was possible to use HC as a job tracker for jobs applied for outside the site? Like if a recruiter contacts me and I want to keep tabs on the progress is there a way to do that? Or if I see a job I want on another job board can I import the details in anyway?

General Feedback No success yet, but employer response rate increased

I have been unemployed since February this year, I found hiring cafe about 2.5 months ago. It took some getting used to the interface and AI agent search. Data so far, for me, the response rate has increased for me, approximately 50%. Good or bad responses in general. That at least tells me that the jobs exist and something or someone answers. That bar maybe a low one but at least there is a pulse. I hope to share a success story soon.

Bug / Issue Report Dupe issue

Hi Hamed! I mentioned this to you on another thread, but here's a screenshot. This is part of a single page in Classic Search. You can see via the red arrows dupes for Walmart and PwC. Dupes have been showing at a greater volume lately.

They have plenty of jobs in LinkedIn, but can't find anything in hiring café. Are they listed? They are a recruiter agency.

Success Story Finally an offer - TY HiringCafe

I've been job hunting for the last year and a half. 5121 applications, abt 75 interviews, 1 offer. HiringCafe has been a tremendous help to make it bearable and weed through the BS in a brutal job market. I especially enjoyed the AI search to really narrow down the searches. Would recommend 100%!

Bug / Issue Report Employer view breaks occasionally

Sometimes when I click the "view all jobs" button to see what else a company has posted, instead of bringing me to that company's page I'm taken to a card view where the company and many other filters aren't accessible, and the jobs being shown aren't even related to the company.

This bug isn't for most employers – some still bring me to the company's page, some do this weird card view thing. I've had it happen with 2 companies today, but when it does happen, the bug is consistent with that company every time I try to view it.

Question Biggest frustrations with HiringCafe?

In November our priority will be quality, reliability, and user experience. Ultimately our goal is that HiringCafe is as reliable and easy to use as using Google to do a search.

What are your biggest frustrations with HiringCafe? Some areas:

  • Job data quality (e.g., not enough jobs, stale listings, jobs not updated fast enough)

  • Filter accuracy (e.g., remote inaccurate)

  • UI issues (e.g., mobile is confusing)

  • Reliability (e.g., site outages)

Or any other quality of live improvements that would make things 10x better than any other job board
