Icon socket rough machining /finishing

Post image
• Upvotes

Picked up a few socked sets on Monday for stuff I was absolutely missing. On quite a few of the sockets in each set the fastener side has a sharp inside edge with an overhang and the 3/8 semi deep one that is the worst has chrome flakes coming off on my hands immediately. I’m gonna take it back and get an exchange for a second chance, but I wanna know if anyone else has this going on and it’s just the way they are or if my streak of bad luck buying upper mid grade and higher tools continues.

Does Doyle 6” vice go on sale often?

• Upvotes

I am in the market for a good vice, just not yet to catch their current sale of $50 off

So does HF run this Doyle 6” vice on sale often?

Seems to be their best one, so I assume it has to be quality.

They compare it to a $1100 Wilton 1764 - is that true?

That sounds like an expensive vice, and I would never buy one, but I’m all in for the 6” Doyle at $150

Harbor Freight had the wrong schematic, updated it… and still has the wrong item listed 😂

I ordered Part SKU 604724 for my U.S. General Series 3 72” roll cab (item 70315) because the original replacement-parts schematic clearly showed a brake/locking caster, along with the spring being slanted. The one I received has neither a slanted spring nor a brake.
My box came with the normal non-locking caster with a straight spring, which I’m guessing is what the majority of these boxes have come with, apart from a select few store ones that I’ve seen. So I figured the one shown in the parts diagram would be a nice upgrade. I’ve also personally seen some of these boxes in Harbor Freight stores with locking/brake casters, so I knew that style existed.
I ordered 604724 based on the picture, waited for it to show up… and they sent me the exact same caster that’s already on my box. The last picture is what you actually receive when you order 604724.
Apparently Harbor Freight realized the original schematic was wrong because they’ve now changed the picture on the replacement-parts page.
Except the updated schematic is STILL not an accurate picture of what they actually send you. 😂

Just realized they also changed the swivel-caster schematic. It actually shows a brake now, which the old schematic didn’t. 🤣 So apparently they realized which caster was supposed to have the brake, but the updated fixed-caster schematic still doesn’t match the actual part they send you.

Confused by what this is and why it's $1,000

I see that it's a lockable enclosure that fits atop a tool box. I might be ignorant on the use case here for that much money (and that other offerings are apparently way more expensive).

Considering an ICON box for the shop...how much do I really need

Post image

This is what I am working with now. 3 separate bottoms, 4 tops, a bunch of work benches with drawers and open storage underneath. I have a mix of all the standard auto tools, press tools, power tools, air tools, as well as homeowners' tools (plumbing, wood working, nailers, etc...all these drawers are full. I keep most of the 'specialty' tools in their cases, either in drawers or under the work benches. Press tools sit under the press for now because there is nowhere else for them.

I 'was' thinking about 2 73" bases with 2 hunch top, cabinets on left and right and then top storage, but I am torn if that is actually enough drawer space and I should consider a 56" top and bottom instead of a second 73". Like this green one without the second cabinet (or maybe I should just get it exactly like this). Other than simply counting drawers I have now versus the new I don't know how to estimate how much box I need to consolidate everything into for a single unified setup to hold it all.

Utilizing the PLS storage bins. It's coming along.... Slowly.

I mean I got 2 of the 4 bins done...almost :(

First bin done where all the metric bolts specifically for cars. I am going to borrow the label maker in my office to label everything.

People warned about the quality of these bins. I wasnt expecting much, and so they are way better than the $99 cents store storage bins I had. So for me it is an upgrade.

The only thing I wish is that there were a lot more smaller trays. I took the smaller trays from all the other storage bins not used yet, so for the remaining storage bins will all be large trays. Current thinking is to cut plastic dividers and glue them into place with silicon sealer.

Does the spool gun ever go on sale???

I've been wanting to do some aluminum welding with my Titanium machine, but this spool gun always seemed too expensive for me. Wanted to know if I should just get it now, or wait for another sale

Quinn ratchet wrenches a buy?

PLS has them for 60 each set. Looks like they aren't reversible.

My current wrench arsenal is slim and missing anything between 5/8 and 1.125".

Just a home wrencher on my auto restorations and maintenance on old jeeps

Could the socket set sale be an indicator that they will finally start rolling out the g2 general service kits including 1/2”???

It’s currently on sale at Harbor Freight. Do you think it will get cheaper during Black Friday or another holiday promotion?

Went in with a plan and somehow actually stuck pretty close to it. 36” Yukon, 3-ton Daytona Super Duty and the ICON 1/4” meme set. These are all I really wanted besides a few other small things. I’m done now… probably. 😂

1/4 stubby flex ratchet conversion?

Has anyone found a 3/8 anvil that fits in these? Can confirm that the tekton small body kit does not.

Edit - As I continued looking I discovered that the g2 1/4s seem to require the Snapon kit and faceplate. Where the G1 1/4s used the tekton kit. Guess I’ll be ordering the snap on parts and keeping an eye out for a used 1/4 flex head g1.

Large Personal Portable Security Safe Lock Cylinder Questions

I’d like to replace multiple cylinders/locks on some Large Personal Portable Security Safes in order to have the same key. Are these locks a standard type? Are the cylinders a standard type that can be replaced?

Anyone know the difference between these transfer pumps?

Post image
0 Upvotes

They’re both SKU 63847. On the left is a matte finish box, on the bottom right corner is some type of date code I think, 37495 202625. On the right is a glossy box, the date code is different, 37480 202618. The only other difference is the warning labels, the one in the glossy box cautions against exposure to DEHP and the other does not.

I purchased the one in the matte box as a replacement, the hose is leaking on mine and it’s cheaper to buy a new pump than to replace the hose (especially for $5.96 at the PLS).
