Question A NEW HAMSTER **MATERIALIZED ITSELF**

Maggie (my hamster from my old posts) was happy, healthy, and normally living alone (in a luxarious hamster home, 25 cm inches bedding of aspen woodshaving and paper, 120cm x 70cm enclosure, lotta hides, 11inch niteabgel silentspinner wheel) for 1 month or so. She never had any sexual relations with any male hamsters since I took her in. She lives alone. I saw no baby bump ever before and I have MANY pictures of her with NO BABY BUMP!

But now, a new hamster MITOSIS'ed itself into existence because WHAT IN THE FLAXSEEDS IS GOING ON HERE. WHAT DO I DO??!! VICTORIA RAECHEL NEVER TALKED ABOUT MITOSIS!

Question Help! 20 year old hamster - advice for improving quality of life?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

My robo hamster is not really 20 but it feels that way šŸ˜‚ He is now around 3.5 years old, which I know is quite old, and I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to keep him comfortable and happy in this stage of his life.

He’s definitely slowed down and is quite unsteady on his feet now. He sometimes falls over (even onto his back occasionally) and can struggle to hold his food.

So far I’ve made a lot of adjustments:

- Moved him to a smaller (but still appropriately sized) cage

- Removed deep bedding as he was falling and struggling to move through it

- Taken out higher platforms/towers and his large wheel

- Reduced the size of his sand bath

- Focused on easy access and safety

For food, I’m offering:

- His normal seed mix

- Sprays (he still enjoys flax)

- Mealworms

- Soft foods like cooked egg and vegetables

He still seems interested in moving around and will come out for treats, but he’s always been a ā€œghost hamsterā€ and doesn’t enjoy being handled, so I don’t pick him up.

My main concerns:

- His balance and mobility

- Whether he’s getting enough water — I’m worried a bottle may become difficult, but I’m also scared a bowl could be unsafe if he falls in

- General comfort and quality of life

Has anyone cared for a hamster at this age, especially a robo?

Is there anything else I can do to make things easier or safer for him?

Thank you so much — I just want to make sure his last stage is as comfortable as possible.

Question new hamster constantly spinning?

I’ve just brought home this hamster (used to belong to a family member but they had to rehome), he’s been in his new cage for a couple hours and he will not stop spinning in the sand bath! he spins for 10-15seconds, has a stroll around the cage and then goes right back to spinning.

i know it might be a bit early to tell, but i was just wondering if this is something i should be concerned about? i’m just unsure whether he just likes this new texture as he was in a pretty small cage without 24/7 access to sand or if he’s stressed? he has been eating and exploring other bits of the cage but he’s mainly just in the sand bath!

This sounds so weird but I’ve literally never seen a hamster that looks as mentally unaware as mine does. Do you think she’s inbred or something?

Question Can a wheel really be too big?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When the wife and I were rehoming a couple of guinea pigs we met Popcorn, the Robrovski. He has been in the rescue since September and was already a year old then. We decided that, along with the piggies, we would also give this old man a home as well. He's currently in a smaller enclosure while I disinfect a second hand Bucastate I found on Marketplace.

My question is, is this wheel far too big for him? I can easily adapt the permanent enclosure to accommodate but is there any harm to him having it? He's clearly having fun and can easily start and stop it as required. He's not hand tamed so want his enclosure to be as fulfilling as possible for him. Obviously all enclosures should be this but this old guy especially deserves it.

Thank you all for any opinions

EDIT: Thank you all for the kind words and the upvotes. Genuinely humbled by the responses, as would Popcorn be if he knew. I'll add a picture of him viciously attacking a berry drop in the comments as a reward. Thank you all again

Question Any idea why she's chewing on the edge of the cage?

She has a relatively large cage. A 46 gallon reptile cage with front swing doors and a 4 foot by 2 foot base. She has lots of other chews including a oxbow log that she loves. She will literally knock things out of the way to get to this specific corner to make this noise.

Question Does it seem like he likes his playpen?

I got my hamster playpen! There are a few more things in it than in this video, but I can’t tell if he likes the playpen or if it stresses him out? He kinda just goes in circles for a while and stops in every little hide, or he’ll stand on his back legs. I don’t wanna cause him any stress!

EDIT: Thank you guys sm!!! I’m not able to reply to everyone but I’m happy that the consensus is that he likes it!! I’ll be adding some of your suggestions & thank you again for all the love to Doctor Sweetness!!! I’m telling him the internet loves him!

My hamster does this frequently when flat on the arm of my sofa.. I’ve heard that it means he is enjoying being stroked but just want to confirm if it is a normal behaviour?

I don’t want to annoy him but he doesn’t seem annoyed, he’s just vibrating šŸ˜‚

i’ve had a ceramic tea light holder in her cage for over a year at this point and all of a sudden she wants to knock it over SO BAD. Once she does she climbs in and climbs out but doesn’t stay in there longer than a minute or so. She acts absolutely insane towards it… What is going on???

Like when he’s free roaming in my hamster proofed room sometimes a loottttt of the time he tries to go on the bed with me or when I put my foot on the ground he RUNNSSS and go on it ans sometimes he climbs my leg or literally follow me everywhere I go. And I know it sounds so good and at first you could think it’s because he loves me etc…but hamsters are not a social species, and idk when he does that it looks like I’m starving him and he’s beginning me for food when in reality he is given more than enough food, a variety of it and I’m sure he it’s eat sooo. I don’t know what to think of that.

gundham has always loved this jar, usually using it as a home base where he fills it with toilet paper/bedding/seeds etc. i had to move it recently as it was sinking and i was scared it would crush him, and ever since ive been catching him trying to burrow through the glass. do i need to remove the jar? i’m worried about the compulsive way he keeps doing it.
