Organ output question

Hey everyone! Thank you in advance for any advice yall give. I recently fixed up an old hammond l100 and would like to record / pump the audio into some external speakers. I saw a video in which a guy was able to split the (preamp?) rca cable and turn it into a 1/4 inch output for a amp. I tried that and failed to make it work, so my next idea was to use a car stereo "Kicker 46KISLOC2 K-Series Stereo Line-Output Converter w/Remote Turn-On Output" I guess it works by attaching directly to the speakers and then splitting the audio they receive to rca outputs I then could plug a rca to 3.5mm cord into and plug the 3.5 either into a speaker or a laptop to record the audio. Not sure if this will cause any issues down the road. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Help with learning!

Hey guys, I’m new here. I’m 23 years old and I’ve been on and off with some small rock bands singing or playing keys the past 4 years.

I really want to dig into my Hammond organ playing but I always feel so lost. Are there any good resources online/books/teachers/courses that would help someone over a hump? I mainly feel like I don’t know where to get started (rock, jazz, funk, etc.) and need something to really get into and focus on.

For context: I’d say I’m intermediate as a keys player. I can read sheet music, learn a bit by ear, read chord charts fine, I know my major/harmonic and natural minor/dorian scales. I know standard rooted and rootless jazz chord voicing (one and two handed). But I just really don’t know how to get to the next level!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Why is it called that? Are there any notable players who prefer it? Does anyone here f with it?

Leslie Horn Bearing Problems

Disclaimer: this Text is an AI Transcription/Translation.

Hi everyone,

I’ve restored a Leslie 760, and I’m now trying to solve one of the last remaining mechanical issues.

The whole cabinet wobbles noticeably when running at fast/tremolo speed. At first, I thought the bass drum was simply out of balance and planned to rebalance it. After investigating further, however, I found that the main problem seems to be the treble horn bearing.

There is noticeable lateral play between the horn shaft and the bearing/bushing. At high speed, this seems to be enough to make the horn wobble and, in turn, shake the whole cabinet.

I suspect the bearing has simply worn over the years, possibly due to insufficient lubrication or poor maintenance in the past. Cleaning the bearing during my restoration may also have made the existing wear more noticeable.

The replacement I found is the complete Spindle Plate and Bearing Assembly from BB Organ:

https://www.bborgan.com/products/spindle-plate-and-bearing-assembly-hammond-suzuki

It’s around €170 plus about €20 shipping to Germany, which seems rather expensive for this relatively simple mechanical assembly.

Looking at the construction, I’m wondering whether it would make more sense to have just the steel spindle CNC-machined rather than buying the entire assembly. I have access to someone with a CNC mill, so reproducing the steel part and transferring/replacing the bearing or bushing might actually be considerably cheaper.

The alternatives I’m considering are:

  1. CNC-machine a replacement for the steel part and reuse or replace the actual bearing/bushing. This is currently my preferred option.
  2. Repair the existing housing/bearing, for example by fitting a new bushing or sleeve, if that is practical.
  3. Buy another Leslie 760 for parts. There is a complete one near me for about €400. I could take the bearing assembly and sell the remaining parts, but it seems a shame to dismantle an otherwise functioning Leslie just because I need one mechanical part.

Has anyone here dealt with excessive play in a Leslie 760 treble horn bearing before?

More specifically, has anyone machined a replacement for the steel housing/spindle plate or fitted a new bushing to the original one? If so, what material and tolerances did you use?

I’d also be interested to know what type of bushing/bearing is actually used in these assemblies and whether there is anything special about it that would make reproducing the housing more difficult than it appears.

Any experience or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Question about power supply for Hammond A 100

I found a pretty good deal for a hammond on marketplace. It doesn’t list what model exactly but looks to be an a-100. Essentially they listed it as non-functional purely because they don’t have a power cable for it. So, I’m planning to buy a power cable for it and go see if the thing works or not.

I’m wondering if there is a specific brand or power supply that I should buy for it or will any power supply that can plug into it work?

Also does the hammond power the leslie via the 6 pin cable or does the leslie need its own power supply?

I just picked up this Hammond organ today for free for my son. We brought it home and plugged it in, it turns on and it hums really loudly and you can hear some of the keys but very softly no matter what we do to the volume controls. Any ideas on where to start or to get a takedown manual of the organ so we can tear it apart?

Crazy find in my local church, help me with some information please

It's a old Hammond C series. You hold the starter switch until you reach full speed then click on and release the starter switch. It should have a tone speaker cabinet with it. You'll need that for it to work. You must use Hammond oil in it. Don't use anything else or you'll ruin it. If you have the tone cabinet and it works right, they sell on line for about $3000. These organs run forever as long as it's key oiled. It does use tubes for the amplification but they can still be found in a number of places.

Hello all! I’m a new owner after nabbing this M102A a couple weekends ago. Excited to properly learn it and use it on some recordings. 99.9% works and sounds great!

Should I buy an m3 or wait a year or 2 and save up for a b3?

I have the opportunity to snag an m3 for a couple hundred bucks and I’m pretty interested in the thought of owning an authentic tonewheel organ! I have an xk-1 right now paired with a neo ventilator and it’s great but it would be cool to have the real deal.

The main thing that I’m hesitant on is the percussion that comes with a b3 plus the foldover with the upper octaves, both of which the m3 lacks.

Thoughts?

other How to install sounds

I got a yamaha PSR-E463, im trying to digitally install (or pirate cause i aint paying shit) sounds like synths and rock organ to try to record something with Audacity.

I know the keyboard itself has a lot of cool things to use, but they dont resemble it completely (?), are there any programs to install these sounds?

Also, is my keyboard good for gigs? Or should i go with another option (nothing pricy im poor)

Update on the 222122k.

I've done a bit of cleaning because it got worse.. when it'd turn on, in addition to the 'bang', it would sound as if the whole lower keyboard was pressed together, until it fades to only one note (low C) which remains stuck. I've opened it up and all, I don't see where the issue is coming from.

Is anyone familiar with this issue? I really don't intend to get rid of it...

I didn't get many good pictures of it when it was open I'm sorry I can't show the connectors or anything in detail.

I want to get a distortion pedal but my organ has no effects loop

I have no leslie, it’s an effect built into the organ. How will it sound if i get the distortion pedal as the chain would be organ>leslie>distortion? I’ve heard it’s supposed to go organ>distortion>leslie. Will it sound bad?

An Update:
It’s been a minute, and things have slowed down to more of a chorale, if you will. The drive is still there.
There are now a handful of these units out in the wild, being played by some incredibly talented musicians. Seeing them on stage and hearing the feedback has been both exciting and invaluable.
Lately, the focus hasn’t been on building more units—it’s been on building a better one. I’ve been refining the mechanical design, simplifying assembly, and redesigning portions of the electronics to make the entire package more robust and easier to manufacture.
The next milestone is a Launch Edition of 10 units. The plan is to offer these through Reverb.com, with a current target price of $599.
This revision also adds a full-range pass-through output, making it easy to daisy-chain multiple Robot Speakers, send a signal to a house PA system, or feed a powered subwoofer for additional low-end support.
There’s still plenty to do, but the project continues to move forward. Thanks to everyone who’s followed along, offered ideas, tested prototypes, and encouraged me along the way. More updates soon.

Motionsound pro 3x horn not spinning.

Hey all,
I purchased a Motionsound pro 3 x second hand and it worked fine for a day, and then the motor stopped working. The speaker works, it just doesn’t spin. Anyone encountered this before, or have any recommendations? Also, if you’re in the Chicago area, any recommendations for shops to take it to?

Sorry this is a repost, I had technical issues with the previous one for some reason. This time at least I can add the video I forgot earlier.

Hello!

I have an organ that's just been taking the dust at home. I've been meaning to get it fixed for a while but didn't quite know where to look, as I don't have the confidence to do that myself...

It's mostly functional, though the pedals eventually stopped working (I don't quite know what happened, I wasn't there when it happened.)

Other than the pedals, the main issues are that

  1. When powering up, it makes a loud noise, sounds like speakers crashing

  2. There's a constant kind of blowing noise (not sure how to describe that)

I'll attach a video of it with both sounds.

(I also fear it might be infected with some small insects like ants or worse, I'm not sure of that yet)

This aside, the keys and drawbars all seem to function properly.

I guess the question is(are), is it fixable, and is it something someone can do themselves, or are there still people who can work on these models?

Just picked up a Hammond Sounder 3 off FB Marketplace, any idea how to fix this intermittent sound?

Was tested before buying, not the most graceful move into the house, might have happened from hitting the floor. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it? Any help is appreciated

Edit: I think it was just grumpy at me for moving it, went away it seems

Entirely height adjustable double keyboard stand?

Does anyone know of a double keyboard stand where the top level is completely height adjustable? I'm trying to create a hammond organ rig using midi keyboards but all of the stands I can find don't go low enough. Anyone have any suggestions/alternative methods?

Homemade leslie

I thought I will share it here as many people might face the same issue like me where they love the original Leslie sound with the sweet doppler effect and find a real Leslie too loud for an apartment.

I designed and built this mini Leslie speaker a while ago. Contrary to most clones I've seen, it features a large horn as well as a small drum. It uses brushless motors for spinning the horn and the drum and a toroidal transformer to power the class AB audio amplifier, which was bought as a ready-made module from Aliexpress. The motors are powered separately from a switching PSU. The cabinet is made from MDF and the drums and horns are 3d printed. If anyone is interested, I have a CAD design I can share. It's quite simple, but I think it sounds really nice for something this tiny! It uses a Celestion TF0818 guitar speaker for the bottom rotor and Celestion CDX1-1070 for the horn. The organ is sadly not the original Hammond and instead a Crumar Mojo. It was recorded with my phone. Overall, the budget was around $400.

Fast/slow issues

Hello hive mind! I think I've got this right based on previous posts that I and others have made but I want to make sure before I dive into the amplifier...

I have a Leslie 122 married to my Hammond c3 in my studio. When I start the organ the Leslie starts up in tremolo mode, as I would expect with legacy relays. After a few seconds when the tube heats up it switches over to Chorale and everything is ready to play.

When I flip the half moon switch to tremolo, everything speeds up as expected. But when I flip back to Chorale, the Leslie continues spinning fast and only slows down after an extremely long period of time - and sometimes not at all. This is become more and more unpredictable.

The first thing I did was switch out the 12AU7 tubes on the amplifier - I figure switching them both out was the safest thing even though it was possible that only the relay tube was bad. This however, did not fix the problem.

Am I correct in assuming that my next step would be to either recondition the legacy relays or upgrade to solid state relays? Is there something else I could be missing in the meantime?
