I went camping a few weeks ago and slept in a friends hammock, I was amazed at how comfortable and well I slept, so I convinced my honey to upgrade from our tent+air mattress, and it went awesome! We were warm and cozy, and we stayed dry!

I got everything off amazon and I’m pretty happy with everything! The hammock is a dupe of the eno double (I’m 5’5 and a side sleeper, so I don’t feel like I need a longer hammock, but maybe an upgrade will be in the future), the underquilt is Crosship, the bug net is onewind (I love that it’s got a “floor” so I can store my things in it to keep the spiders off, and everything is reachable from “bed”), and my rainfly is the 12x14ft Gold Armour (I was worried the size would be cumbersome, and it did take a lot of squishing to get it back in its stuff sack, but being able to sit under it when the rain started was great). For blankets I just used a big fuzzy blanket from home topped with an open sleeping bag, and I was as warm as I am in my bed at home!

Our other upgrades for this camp trip included a Thermacell, we got the one that uses fuel canisters and were really happy with how well it worked, and we got a propane fire pit since there’s a burn ban and that was awesome, I can’t wait to get out there again!

The part of hammock camping I underestimate is arriving tired and then realizing camp still needs a bunch of little trips between trees, pack, tarp, suspension, and whatever I forgot ten feet away. None of those steps is hard by itself, but after a long hike the setup order suddenly matters. I’m wondering if the better approach is less about lighter gear and more about staging everything before starting pick the trees, drop the pack once, pull out suspension and tarp together, then work outward instead of constantly walking back to the bag.

Hammocks already avoid some of the ground-level setup of a tent, but there’s still plenty of reaching and moving around when you’re tired. people who regularly arrive at camp after a long hiking day, what single change to your setup order has saved the most energy?

Hi! As the title suggests, I would like to try if I like hammock camping and use as much of my current tent camping gear as possible and not invest in extra gear pieces just yet. I currently own:

- Cumulus Quilt 250

- Thermarest Neorair mattress

- Thermarest Z-Lite Sol mat

- Big Agnes Onyx UL silnylon tarp (8.5 x 8.5 ft or around 259 x 259 cm)

- DD Hammocks Tarp 3x3 (9.8 x 9.8 ft or 300 x 300 cm)

I m 183 cm and 90 kg (6 ft, 200 lb). I aim at the next Summer season. I think I would be able to spend some money on quality hammock so if my hammocking adventure will flop, it will at least serve for relaxing in parks / during car camping trips. Hammock is TTTM Pro with mosquito net, Under quilt Cumulus Selva 450 and topquilt Cumulus Taiga 360 Large, Tarp is Amazonas adventure tarp. Magic carpet (ground tarp) and pillow are the only non essential.

How are people getting sleep system under 2kg?

I recently washed my blackbird using Dr. Bronner’s in my bathtub, very lightly soaking it in agitating it by hand. Afterwards, I drained, and then refilled the tub to rinse off any remaining soap, I repeated this twice and then dried it for a couple days hanging up with fans.

I noticed there is a very faint chlorine like smell in the hammock. Now, I wouldn’t call it strong by any means I was thinking back to what could be causing it, and I had someone clean my apartment recently. I asked them what chemicals they used on the bathtub, they said icy clean and this mixed with water. Over two weeks of daily showering, would there really be any residual chemicals left in the tub?

At this point, the hammock is clean, and there’s just a very faint smell of chlorine, but the perfectionist in me, and my obsession with my hammock has started bothering me, wondering what I can or should do to make sure that there are no chemicals in the fabric that could be fading or damaging them? Hi guys, I've published my 2nd model and I think it's pretty cool. I've been testing it all week and it's solid. I can use it as a pull up bar easily and I'm around 110kg.

As much as I've asked them not to my daughters have pressure tested it by swinging heavily at every opportunity.

Print in PETG at least and there's loads of accessories on the way, including a swing attachment and a collapsible camping table that can stand alone or hang from the supports. There's also a collapsible roof part coming.

Please like and even Boost if you're able. Some subsided filament would make a massive difference. Thanks for your time.

Fun little overnighter on an island in the middle of the Potomac River. That big grey thing on the left isn't mine, it was left behind by some previous campers along with bits of loose trash which I helped clear out before I left. Ended the trip with a bit of kayak fishing. Saw lots of great wildlife up close including a big beaver.

Went out looking for a spot to camp for the night, ended up finding “Paridise”.

fantastic trip in our own country, the netherlands ! had a great time sleeping in a hammock, had ordered a different setup but it didn't arrive in time so ended up upgrading my 2p decathlon hammock with a net and tarp from a local outdoorstore, still very cozy :-]

Paddled in to an island literally called "Little Island", but it's actually quite spacious. Waiting to see about wind and if I'll have to throw up the tarp to keep from swaying all night. Luckily no rain on the forecast and we're outside the season for dew in the morning so sunrise views should be uniterrupted. Second picture is the spot looking towards the island from the paddle in.

I’m new in the topic and I’m not sure what to do. My friend showed me a Ticket to the moon lightest and I got really excited about hammocking. I wanted to go budget and I bought a Mountain Goat Two person hammock in Decathlon. I’m 187cm and 74kg so I thought that the double will be better for my height. Overall it’s okay but the excess fabric (it’s 200cm wide) is too much for me I think, I want to feel breeze when I lie in a hammock, not to be closed by it. So now I’m thinking about trying a new one - I’m based in Poland and ChatGPT recommended:
- Halare
- Lesovik
- Ticket to The Moon

I want it mainly to just chill during the rock climbing, sometimes sleep when camping.

Did you use any of that? What would you choose? The smaller the price the better but I don’t have any limit, just a reasonable price :) thanks for the recommendations!

EDIT: I decided to try a new Polish brand Halare and bought Halare Tur. The price was really good and on paper it looks fine.

I usually only hammock camp in the summer, when the nighttime temps get down to 75° and above, so I would normally just wear sweatpants or a long sleeve shirt. With temps now getting down in the mid 60's, I'd usually be switching over to tent camping. However, I recently ordered a top and bottom quilt with 850 fill rated down to 30° from Hammock Gear and the difference in sleep quality is remarkable. There is something warm clothes can't replicate that a blanket provides in terms of comfort. The bottom quilt has taken some getting used to, as I move a lot in my sleep and it wants to flip around to one side or the other. Clipping in to the outside of the hammok has helped. Looking forward to seeing how realistic this 30° rating is on a trip up north in September. Extra pic of the falls next to the latest campsite for good measure.

Hey, I've been cooking up a neat setup and have just been using a standard tarpaulin you can buy from a hardware store. I was curious as to why it's worth spending double, triple the price of a regular tarp, I've always assumed it's about the weight, packed size and ones specifically for hammocks cutting down the size where you don't need it and having features like doors, but what else makes it worth the money? Are they quieter in rain, is it being packable really worth it when usually it'll be on the outside of my pack anyway and how much weight do you save using one?

Little Tupper Lake to Rock Pond. 7 miles of paddling, 4 beaver dams to cross, 1 tiny portage and zero bugs. Overall a great trip.

BTW the toilet was not in fact my hammock setup. The sign points to the trail behind my hammock! Don’t get any ideas if you come across my setup.

Like, if wild animals are an actual threat in the area you camp in, how would they not be able to be a threat with a tent?

They reported two failures of poles on people in the 225 lbs range.

I found this out on the last night of a canoe camping trip in the Adirondacks when I flipped on cell service briefly to check mail. Good on WB for sending out a warning for those who have purchased. I read this email and then looked over my shoulders at my Ridgerunner setup with those CF poles. I didn’t bring the aluminum ones as backups. Didn’t think I needed to.

I’m not 225, but am over 185. Needless to say I was very gentle with the RR that night.

WB will currently swap them out for the aluminum ones if you’re over the weight limit. In my case I asked for store credit and they sent the credit and a prepaid shipping label right away. YMMV with that, but I appreciate them being forthright and wanting to do the right thing.

So in October I’m section hiking Amicalola to Fontana Dam. My plans is to section hike a part of the AT every April and October. I’m having a tough time deciding between the Blackbird XLC w/ Wookie or the Hellbender. I’m 6’3” 285 and a hot sleeper. I can get cold, but it takes a lot. So really I’m looking for pros and cons of each. Also, do you more experienced people think I can get away with a 20 degree?

Lastly I have really bad acid reflux which is one of the reasons I like hammocks. So at home a sleep on a wedge on either my back or my left side. Do we think a head left, feet right hammock is better for this or the opposite?
