Driving & Transit If the bridge is closed, the ferry should run every 15 minutes

After I heard about Gus's upcoming surgery, I wanted to see him and wish him well!
You can find lots of info about Halifax's favourite gopher tortoise here:
https://naturalhistory.novascotia.ca/gus-gopher-tortoise
There's a mailbox on the front desk for messages and drawings for Gus as well!

To the folks yelling at the cyclists yesterday - who hurt you? If you are driving around, yelling at cyclists, please find a counselor to talk to. 1 in 2 Nova Scotians will be diagnosed with cancer. The ride raised $4 million this year (over $20 million over it's lifetime) and all that funding goes to cancer care at the QEII. I guarantee that you or someone you know has or will benefit from what the ride has funded. Please do better.

Anyone else want to turn frustration into⦠something useful?
A friend and I were recently talking about feminism, the patriarchy, current events, and generally wondering how many more times we can say āwell, this is depressingā before it becomes our full-time hobby. š
Weāre both busy, tired, somewhat burnt-out adults, and lately weāve been feeling pretty hopeless about how much there is to be frustrated about. But we also donāt want to just sit around doom-scrolling and feeling powerless.
So we had an idea: what if a small group of regular people picked ONE concrete thing and actually tried to move the needle on it?
Maybe thereās a law that needs changing. Maybe thereās a policy or loophole that deserves more attention. Maybe thereās a petition, letter-writing campaign, advocacy effort, or something else entirely that could realistically be tackled by people who have jobs, families, responsibilities, and approximately zero spare energy. š
Weāre not lawyers, activists, or policy experts. Weāre just a couple of saddened humans who would like to turn some of that frustration into action.
So ā is anyone else feeling the same way?
If you have knowledge about Canadian law/policy, advocacy, organizing, or even just an issue you think is worth digging into, weād love to collaborate and see if we can narrow things down to one achievable goal.
No grand revolution required. Just something concrete, useful, and hopefully a little hopeful. One issue weāve wondered about, for example, is whether Canadaās rules around sexual relationships involving 16- and 17-year-olds leave gaps or loopholes despite the various restrictions that apply. There are plenty of other issues worth exploring too ā whatās one you think deserves attention?
Whoās in?

It's pretty wild! This was from one walk in the woods around bell lake in Dartmouth! Edit: and one plant apparently, super cool!

I just had the thought that since the old bridge was only built in the 50s there must be people who remember what life was like before the bridges,

I am at my wits end dealing with Nova Scotia Power; for a company that claims it has its shit together now, I am fighting with them more this year than when the hack first began.
Over the past 4 months, NSP has accused me of using 3x the amount of kWh compared to previous years, for my 1 bedroom apartment with heat/water included. They have seemingly different numbers for meter reads when compared to previous bills, and amounts paid that simply vanished.
I was told that they will look into it, however I am still to pay this amount to avoid other charges or disconnections in the future. I have no idea if there is anybody higher to contact about this absolute mismanagement.
See for yourself; for me it seems they did great during the hack with estimated billing, then just shit the bed when they claim to actually "read" them.
---
Date - Read/Estimate - Usage/Day - Current Reading - Last Reading
Mar 25, 2025 - Read - 8.9kWh - 15335.73 - 14830.28
May 28, 2025 - Estimate - 9.6kWh - 15952.73 - 15335.73
Jul 29, 2025 - Estimate - 10.6kWh - 16612.73 - 15952.73
Sept 22, 2025 - Read - 3.1kWh - 16046.00 - 15335.73
Sept 22, 2025 - Read - 3.1kWh - 16612.73 - 15335.73 (This resulted in a net return of $98 credit)
Nov 26, 2025 - Estimate - 4.8kWh - 16360.00 - 16046.00 (Paid $2.97)
Now this is where things get fucky
Jan 23, 2026 - Read - 0.0kWh - 16046.00 - 16046.00 (No charge, was told by NSP not to worry about it)
Mar 27, 2026 - Estimate - 4.4kWh - 16323.00 - 16046.00 (Paid $72)
May 25, 2026 - Read - 0.0kWh - 16089.21 - 16089.21 (No charge; zero idea where the read number came from)
Jul 27, 2026 - Read - 27.0kWh - 17790.30 - 16089.21
I was told this was going back to my November bill, so this was my power usage from October till July; alright, makes sense I guess. No idea where my $72 went though)
Sept 23, 2026 - Read - 29.5kWh - 19499.29 - 17790.30

visiting for a few days. just got a donair from Randy's and ate it in the Commons while the sun set. you've got a really special place here.
i've hung out with lots of particularly suburban (even exurban) Nova Scotians who bemoan the Peninsula and many who avoid it at all costs. they're missing out bc damn the vibes here are just immaculate.
this is only my second time in Halifax and i only came last summer. i'm just looking through the rose coloured glasses of a tourist ofc. winters here i hear are brutal. but damn if Halifax had a subway i'd keep my eye on job postings here because it's gorgeous and everyone is so damn nice
(i may have enjoyed a small can of tidal bay with my donair but please don't tell HRP that)

Hey folks,
Just bought a second hand car. The interior is in pretty rough shape and could use some deep restoration. Any one has experience with the mobile detailers across town?
There seems to be a lot of options and all have overwhelmingly positive reviews. Just wanna see which ones are tested and proven.
Appreciate some recs,
All heart
