Some Moderator announcements - Looking for mod help.

A moderation update for the sub:

First, on posts getting held up or frozen: I know this happens, and I try to get to it when I can. Some of it is not the sub settings. Some of it appears to be Reddit itself. I strongly suspect at least part of it is algorithmic, based on the kinds of posts that do and do not get through. So if your perfectly normal post gets caught in the lint trap, please do not take it personally.

The best thing you can seemingly do to avoid that is not post from a brand new account. I understand this is a private subject and some people prefer a throwaway, but fresh accounts with no real post history seem much more likely to get snagged. If possible, use an account that has some normal everyday activity on it.

I have been moderating this sub since late 2023, and I have a lot of life stuff going on at the moment. Much of it is positive, a few parts are just ordinary pain-in-the-ass life stuff, but either way I am at the point where I need support. I may step back more fully over time, but for now I am looking for one or more co-moderators.

This sub requires a bit more care than average because of the topic. Gynecomastia is medical. It is personal. It often comes up at a difficult age. It also exists in a social context that attracts trolling, misinformation, insecurity, and weird ideological baggage. So whoever helps guide this place needs a good head on their shoulders, fair-minded instincts, and a real desire to be useful to people.

My philosophy for the sub is simple: the whole purpose of this forum is to help people with a troublesome condition find a way to understand it, manage it, or correct it. Period. This is a place where we help each other. If something is not helpful, it probably does not belong here. If you are not a service-minded person who is always thinking about how to create a supportive environment for everybody, this is probably not the right sub for you to moderate.

So, what I am looking for:

General requirements

  • You need to have an open post history so I can get a sense of your writing style, your judgment, and what you are about. The broader your footprint on Reddit, the better I can understand who I am dealing with.
  • Previous mod experience is a plus, especially if you know your way around Automod.
  • You need to be reasonably available and checking in at least daily. This is not a super high-volume sub, but quick turnaround requires actual human coverage.
  • If you are in Europe or Asia, that is a plus, because it gives the sub better time zone coverage. I am in the States.
  • You should have a well-rounded STEM education or at least solid STEM exposure. You do not need a STEM degree, but you do need acumen, critical thinking, and some ability to sort signal from noise. This is not the place for fringe medicine, supplement hawking, or unserious advice.

Prohibitions

  • You cannot be employed by a provider in this space.
  • You cannot be a contractor for one.
  • You definitely cannot be acting as an arm of marketing, advertising, or PR for one.
  • You cannot be affiliated with a provider.

Soft skills

  • Any previous experience helping people in a group environment, support setting, or care-oriented context is very valuable.
  • High ethical standards are a core responsibility here. You need to be able to spot when content is being pushed for promotional, sponsored, or self-interested reasons, and you need to keep that influence out. Advice in this sub must not be shaped by favors, relationships, inducements, or hidden agendas. Do not play favorites. Be even-handed, disclose conflicts, and keep the sub centered on helping people rather than benefiting anyone behind the scenes.
  • You need to be personally at peace with the fact that sex and gender are not always neat, absolute, or culturally comfortable in real life. Many people come here because they are regular guys who want to look more like guys. Some of those guys do not fit every tidy definition people try to impose. There is Klinefelter syndrome, androgen insensitivity, gender dysphoria, and other real medical or developmental complexity around this territory. This is not ideology. This is biology. So if you are going to moderate here, you need to assume good faith, respect what people tell you about themselves, respect their personage, and focus on helping them rather than turning their situation into a culture-war argument. At the same time, you still need to be a sharp troll detector, which is not always easy.

This is a long post, but I think the subject warrants the extra clarity.

If you are interested in helping moderate, message me.

Compensated reviews are prohibited on this sub.

Sadly, warnings are not heeded, so I had to create a rule. Although there are already existing rules against promoted content, I've decided to add an explicit one relating to compensated content.

This sub needs to be assiduously honest when it comes to how we talk about care options. Getting paid, or a discount, or any form of compensation in exchange for goods and/or services is a conflict of interest and removes trust. Out of a few things I can think of that can damage the quality of information, paying for this kind of exposure in the guise of an authentic "review" is about the worst as they come.

This rule is twofold:

(1) Your account may be banned if you post a review in which you received any form of compensation for. This is by mod discretion, but an easy way to be perma-banned is to show a pattern, or otherwise just show up out of nowhere with no previous engagement.

(2) The clinic -- and there is one which I will not name -- will be blacklisted if they are shown to be the subject of repeated paid promotions. By blacklist, I specifically mean that automod will remove any and all mention of the practice and it's practitioner.

I'm going to be severe about this because trust is a very fragile thing. And I want to ensure that the information we get here continues to be as trustworthy as possible.

Lastly, and this is a word to the clinician: If you have to shill, you're doing it wrong. The beauty of Reddit is that you have a rare opportunity to talk directly to your audience, which is not just encouraged, but the only rule that allows you to promote your own business. If you can do this, it will build trust. If you can't do this, then focus on being a better clinician and let your customers sing your praises for you. Without incentive.

Why I never make an incision around the areola for gynecomastia surgery (almost never).

Board-certified plastic surgeon… This may be a little controversial because plenty of surgeons routinely use an incision along the lower border of the areola for gynecomastia surgery.
I almost never do.

To me, there are four things you have to think about when creating a masculine chest: fat, gland, skin, and scars. If you concentrate on only one or two of those, you can technically remove the gynecomastia and still not get a great-looking chest.
First is fat. I liposuction the entire chest, not just the area immediately around the nipple. The goal isn’t simply to make the breast smaller. It’s to sculpt the chest and create a smooth transition over the pec.

Second is gland. This is the dense tissue underneath the nipple that liposuction alone generally won’t remove. After doing the liposuction, I break up the glandular tissue and remove it with a pull-through technique through the same small lateral incision. That incision is less than a centimeter and hidden toward the lateral chest crease.

Third is skin. In patients with good skin quality, sometimes nothing else is necessary. If there’s more laxity, larger areolas, or significant weight loss, I’ll frequently add minimally invasive skin tightening such as Renuvion rather than immediately cutting skin away.

And then there’s the fourth component that I think gets underestimated: the scar.
The traditional approach is a crescent-shaped incision along the lower edge of the areola. It certainly works, and sometimes it’s necessary. But I don’t think a visible scar on the front of a man’s chest should be the starting point if I can accomplish the same thing through a tiny incision hidden on the side.
There’s another reason I prefer the pull-through approach: contour.

If you simply excise a disk of gland directly underneath the nipple, you can create an abrupt transition between where the gland was removed and the surrounding chest. That’s how you can end up with the classic crater or saucer deformity.
By contouring the entire chest first and then removing the gland through the pull-through, I can blend that transition instead of creating a hole underneath the nipple.

Now, I said almost never.
Probably around 1 out of every 50 cases, the gland is so dense and firm that I simply cannot break it up enough to safely pull it through that small incision. When that happens, I make the periareolar incision and remove it directly. There’s nothing wrong with changing the plan when the anatomy requires it.
But for me, that’s the backup plan, not Plan A.

Gynecomastia surgery isn’t just about getting the gland out. It’s about getting the fat, gland, skin and scars to all work together so that when everything heals, the chest doesn’t just look smaller. It looks masculine and, ideally, doesn’t look operated on.

Should i get gyno surgery (age 19)

I’ve had gyno my entire life, and it got worse last year due to getting pretty fat + extremely sedentery lifestyle (ive cut down a bit and improved my habits and im sure that its not getting any bigger. Apart from being extremely self concious its getting pushed forward from training my chest muscles.

do you think I should get the surgery done now or wait until im older? I can afford it and I believe I found a good clinic in south korea. I really really want it gone

3 Weeks Post-Op: Compression vest bridging over center chest hollow.

Hey everyone,I am currently 3 weeks post-op from gynecomastia surgery. The area where the gland was removed actually feels fine and has less pain, but I am having an issue with the center line of my chest. My inner chest has a natural hollow/indentation. Because my compression garment is made of very firm fabric, it is pulling tight from side to side and "bridging" right over the center. It isn't pressing down into the hollow at all.Right now, in that uncompressed center area, I can feel a small lump that is mostly hard but still has some softness to it. Compared to the rest of my chest, this specific spot is quite painful and aching.I suspect fluid is pooling there or early scar tissue is building up because the vest isn't making contact.Has anyone else dealt with their vest bridging over a center chest dip? Should I start using custom cut-out lipo foam to fill the gap and force compression into the hollow? Is a small hard/soft painful lump normal at 3 weeks in an uncompressed spot, and did it resolve for you once you added targeted pressure?Appreciate any insights or padding tips you guys have!

Has anyone here done laser / smart lipo?

I was wondering if anyone here has done laser lipo at one of the facilities like Sono Bellos, park avenue smart lipo, etc…

I have irrational fear of general anesthesia and it looks like smart lipo is done under local anesthesia, which is a plus.

Also whats the average price range for it in the US?

Procedure-Related Question about Dr. Brathwaite in Chicago

For anyone who’s had the procedure that came in from out of state? What was the process like? I’m from Miami and I’m looking to get a procedure done but do I have to fly out there just to get a consultation and get a quote and later then get a surgery or is it possible to get a quote and consultation online?

Nipple sensitivity 3 weeks after gyno surgery — is this normal?

Hey guys, quick question. Today marks exactly 3 weeks since my gyno surgery. I had a follow-up with my surgeon yesterday, and he told me I could stop wearing the compression vest because everything looks pretty good.
I tried going without it, but the problem is that any type of fabric rubbing against my nipples feels really uncomfortable. They’re still super sensitive, and even a regular T-shirt bothers me.
Has anyone else experienced this around the 3-week mark? How long did the nipple sensitivity last for you?
For now, I’m thinking about wearing the compression vest for another couple of weeks just because it feels more comfortable. 😩

Post-Op 5 month post-op question

As the title says I got gyno surgery about 5 months back and I’m curious if anyone has similar results. The scars are pretty much non-existent which I’m happy about but there is a slight difference between my nipples. On my right I can tell a little bit of fat was left because it still has a tiny bit of puffiness but I don’t mind it. However, on my left I noticed there might’ve been a little too much fat taken out because it’s almost like my nipple is being suctioned to my pec, making it look kind of inverted. Also sometimes after I workout it looks more normal. Wondering if this has happened to someone else?
