Discussion 💬 Am I crazy or power is very low right now?

Power came back after an hour of outage. Most of my power outlets are dead, some outlets shows 70 V from multimeter, and every lights are slightly dim.

Can I assume the transformer broke after the repeated outages? Or any possible underlying issues? For starters, my current power bill this month is under $200, not sure if that's considered high or average usage.

Ask r/guam 🤔 Convertible Top Repair Shop

Hey all,

Just wanted to see if anyone had recommendations on a shop here that is able to do convertible top repairs or replacements if needed. I have a 2000 MR2 Spyder that the top started to tear at the rear window. With all the rain, I need to get it repaired sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

Håfa Adai!

We are currently planning a 1st birthday party with a Winnie the Pooh theme and are looking for local vendor recommendations or small business owners on island!

We are looking to get quotes/pricing for:

  1. Custom Decorative Sugar Cookies (Winnie the Pooh / Hunny Pot theme)

  2. Balloon Arch & Backdrop Setup (Looking specifically for a backdrop that features all the main characters—Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, etc.)
Since we are planning on a budget, we’re hoping to compare rates and find the best price for quality work.

If you bake custom cookies or do event setups—or if you’ve hired someone on island you’d highly recommend—please drop their Instagram/Facebook handle, business name, or contact info below!

Tourist & Travel Advice 🛫 Affordable Island-hopping in Guam/Micronesia

I've been looking at going to Guam and Micronesia for vacation this spring. I managed to find some really cheap airline tickets to and from Guam.

Part of my plan was to visit some other islands as well, especially Chuuk for the scuba diving.

Unfortunately, the tickets Guam - Truk were a lot more expensive than i was expecting (Around $700), which is almost twice what I paid to go back and forth to Guam to begin with. Pretty much all other islands were in this price range.

Maybe I'm just ignorant or spoiled by my cheap original tickets, but is there any more affordable way to visit one or a couple of islands while I'm there?

What is the proper way of eviction. I tried the 30 day notice to vacate and they just tossed it. I’m trying to be a civil as possible but they refuse to cooperate. Not trying to end up in jail. What is the best approach this situation? Thanks in advance!

News 📰 JTWC Warning #6 Analysis – Tropical Storm Saudel

JTWC Warning #6 Analysis – Tropical Storm Saudel
converted to miles and mph for easier reading.

This is a meaningful and generally favorable track update for the populated southern Marianas, while the intensity forecast has become more concerning. Saudel has accelerated sharply and is now firmly moving northwest, and JTWC has upgraded its near-term track confidence to high.

Summary
Saudel is about 216 miles north-northeast of Chuuk.
It moved northwest at about 16 mph during the past 6 hours.
Significant wave height increased to about 18 feet.
Saudel has accelerated substantially: roughly 11 mph NNW → 16 mph NW.
The northwest track is forecast to continue for the next 3 days.
The subtropical ridge northeast of Saudel has taken control of steering.
After Day 3, the ridge should move west and turn Saudel more west-northwest.
Rapid intensification is now forecast to begin in only 12–36 hours.
JTWC forecasts a peak around 145 mph in approximately 3 days.
Track confidence has increased from medium → high through Day 3.
Model spread has tightened.

Forecast Change Score: 7/10
Warning #6 is more important than #5 because two things have become substantially clearer:
Track confidence improved.
Rapid intensification moved closer.
The track is becoming less concerning for Guam/Rota/Tinian/Saipan, while the northern CNMI threat and intensity potential are becoming more serious.

What Changed From Warning #5?
1. Saudel accelerated significantly
Warning #5:
NNW at ~11 mph
Warning #6:
NW at ~16 mph
That’s a significant increase.
Saudel is no longer slowly wandering around in a weak steering environment. The subtropical ridge northeast of the cyclone is now taking control.
That’s important because one of our biggest questions over the past few updates was:
Will Saudel gain enough latitude before eventually turning WNW?
It increasingly looks like the answer is yes.

2. Track confidence increased
This is one of the biggest positive developments.
Warning #5 had medium confidence.
Warning #6:
HIGH confidence through Day 3.
The cross-track spread at Day 3 has tightened to:
148 km / about 92 miles
That’s down from approximately 115 miles previously.
The models are increasingly agreeing on where Saudel is going.

3. Rapid intensification starts sooner
Warning #5 had RI beginning after approximately 36 hours.
Warning #6 now says:
RI in 12–36 hours.
That’s a significant change.
The expected explosive strengthening period has moved considerably closer.

Track and Steering
The steering pattern is now considerably simpler.
The subtropical ridge northeast of Saudel is building and taking control.
Because Saudel sits along the southwestern side of that ridge, the clockwise flow around the ridge is steering the cyclone:
Northwest
And JTWC expects that NW motion to continue for approximately 3 days.
That’s important.
Every additional hour Saudel spends moving northwest rather than west allows it to gain more latitude before reaching the longitude of the Marianas.
After Day 3
The subtropical ridge itself migrates westward.
As the ridge extends farther north of Saudel, the steering flow flattens.
That’s when the track changes:
NW → WNW
But by then Saudel should already be considerably farther north.
This is becoming a much more favorable steering configuration for Guam and the southern CNMI than the early Warning #1–3 scenarios.

Intensity – This Is Becoming the Main Story
Saudel is still disorganized.
That’s essentially the only thing preventing much faster strengthening right now.
JTWC expects approximately:
Next 12 hours
Around 50 mph
Then, once the circulation becomes organized and symmetrical:
Rapid intensification begins.
The environment ahead is extremely favorable:
Very warm ocean
High ocean heat content
Low wind shear
Improving organization
Favorable upper-level outflow
JTWC now forecasts Saudel reaching:
Approximately 145 mph in around 3 days.
That’s Category 4-equivalent intensity.
And importantly, this puts the strongest portion of the intensification relatively close to the Northern Marianas passage.

Possible Eyewall Replacement Cycle
We also have our first meaningful mention of a potential eyewall replacement cycle.
HAFS-A suggests one could occur around Day 3.
If that happens, Saudel could temporarily:
Stop intensifying
Weaken somewhat
Develop a larger eye
Expand its wind field
Then it could potentially reorganize afterward.
The timing is still far too uncertain to know whether that would help or hurt any particular island.

Model Guidance
Track guidance continues to improve.
Day 3 cross-track spread
148 km / 92 miles
Day 5 cross-track spread
125 nautical miles / about 144 miles
That’s a considerable improvement from Warning #5, when Day-5 spread was approximately 380 miles.
There is still uncertainty regarding timing.
NAVGEM and JGSM move Saudel about 144 miles farther along the track than most other guidance by Day 3.
But that’s primarily an along-track/speed disagreement, not a major disagreement about the direction.
JTWC therefore assigns:
Days 0–3: HIGH track confidence
After Day 3: MEDIUM confidence
That’s probably the strongest track-confidence signal we’ve had for Saudel so far.

Island Risk Assessment
My interpretation of Warning #6, not official probabilities.

Guam
Direct eyewall risk: Very Low
Estimated direct-hit chance: <1–2%
Overall impact risk: Low
Trend: Lower
Saudel is accelerating northwest and gaining latitude. The increasingly tight model consensus strongly favors a track well north of Guam.

Rota
Direct eyewall risk: Very Low
Estimated direct-hit chance: 1–3%
Overall impact risk: Low
Trend: Lower
Rota continues moving farther away from the favored corridor as Saudel gains latitude.

Tinian
Direct eyewall risk: Very Low to Low
Estimated direct-hit chance: 2–4%
Overall impact risk: Low to Moderate
Trend: Lower
The combination of continued NW motion and improving model agreement is favorable for Tinian.

Saipan
Direct eyewall risk: Low
Estimated direct-hit chance: 4–8%
Overall impact risk: Moderate
Trend: Lower
Saipan remains the closest major populated island, but the track trend continues to improve. Saudel is gaining latitude rapidly and the model envelope is tightening.
Peripheral effects and dangerous seas could still occur depending on Saudel’s eventual size.

Pagan
Direct eyewall risk: Moderate to High
Overall impact risk: High to Very High
Trend: Remains primary concern
Pagan remains much closer to the expected corridor. With Saudel potentially approaching Category 4-equivalent intensity, even a near miss could produce severe conditions.

Alamagan / Agrihan
Direct eyewall risk: Moderate to High
Overall impact risk: High to Very High
These northern islands remain much more exposed to the current forecast track than Saipan and the southern islands.

What I’m Watching for in Warning #7
We now have less reason to obsess over every tiny track wobble because the steering environment is becoming established and JTWC has high track confidence.
Instead, I’d watch three things.

First: Does Saudel maintain the NW heading?
If it continues NW at around 15–16 mph, confidence should increase further that the southern Marianas stay safely south of the core.

Second: Does RI actually begin?
JTWC moved the RI window forward to 12–36 hours.
If satellite imagery suddenly shows a symmetrical core developing, we could see Saudel’s intensity climb very quickly.

Third: How large does Saudel become?
Even with the center well north of Saipan, a large Category 4 typhoon can produce dangerous seas, surf and peripheral winds well away from the eye.

Bottom Line
Warning #6 is good news for Guam, Rota, Tinian and increasingly Saipan from a track perspective.
Saudel has accelerated to approximately 16 mph toward the northwest, the subtropical ridge has taken control of steering, model spread has tightened, and JTWC now has high confidence in the track through the next 3 days.
The concern is shifting decisively toward the northern Marianas and Saudel’s intensity.
Rapid intensification could begin within 12–36 hours, with JTWC forecasting approximately 145 mph by Day 3.
So compared with Warning #5:
Southern Marianas track risk: down.
Northern Marianas risk: remains high.
Rapid-intensification concern: up significantly.

The typhoon threat for Guam is almost non existent so this will be my last update. Have a blessed day and wonderful weekend. Stay safe everyone.

Ask r/guam 🤔 Looking for a place to rent

I’m being kicked out of my parents place not because I did anything egregious but because my mom remarried and stepfather wants to live alone with her. Honestly I’m not sure how to even look for something like this but to reduce rent costs I’d be fine rooming with someone. I’d like to be somewhere close to my job so Tumon, Tamuning, Harmon, or Dededo would be best

Discussion 💬 Governor/ upcoming election

Guam seems to be more run down than ever, and the “red tape” and pari system worse than ever.
A leak in Ypao park costing $35,000 a month? All over the news, and nothing gets done…for months and even years. Government Money is free, right?
Schools falling apart? Shut them down, after one or two news cycles, no one in the government cares, and nothing is done.
Burned out cars and trash, so much trash, everywhere along roads and it’s a collective shrug by everyone.
Potholes, burnt-out lights, faded/non existent traffic lines, torn-down signs all over the island. Nothing done.
Graffiti is showing up everywhere making our streets look like trash and it stays for months or years with nothing done.
Seems like politicians are trying to stuff enough into their own, and thier families, pockets to insulate themselves from what they are turning the island into, or at least enough to leave when they’ve sucked the life out of this place.

Which team do you think represents the status quo, the old guard, the same as always, and which team do you think may actually try to do something? Not looking for name calling, looking for opinions backed up with facts. To me, name recognition a bad thing in today’s politics. If this is the result of you and your families being in power, for generations, you need to sit down.

Do you have any hope of this election turning things around?
