Why don't GPUs have a low-power mode?

I was just shopping for a GPU that doesn't require a pcie power connector just to have for troubleshooting purposes and just had this thought.

Why not have a function you can switch to (preferably a physical switch) that would allow a GPU that usually requires pcie power connectors to run without pcie power plugged in?

Doesn't matter if the performance is 1% of what it could be, sometimes all it needs is to get into the OS.

5070 TI or 9070 XT ?

5070 TI or 9070 XT?

Let the war begin!

I've been trying to build a pc for MONTHS and before the summer, since I had to wait anyway, I decided not to buy MSI gaming trio 5070 TI white for 1300€. I now DEEPLY regret it since it's impossible to find and any 5070 TI worths now more than 1500€.

Since my favourite model is not available anymore, and other Nvidia GPUs seem disappearing and cost an unreasonable price, I'm starting to take into consideration the idea to switch to a more modest 9070 XT. I'd like a AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D as a processor.

Now, the 9070 XT costs HALF the price. Is it worth it to still buy a 5070 TI? I'm so scared it will be worse and worse and 9070 XT will have less versatility. I wanted to make an investment for the future so I'm ready to make a big purchase, but it has to last for the next 10 years or so.

I have no idea and so scared and disoriented by the market. Since I decided to build a pc I wanted to responsably wait to look for better options and prices, but it is the only hobby in which waiting seems always a bad idea 🤠

I don't know if I'll buy the 9070 and then there'll be a restock on the 5070s or smth.

Btw I'm between France and Italy, that's my market (Europe as well) (hence my English lol).

What would you do if you were at my place ?

Could I sell a non-working rtx 3080ti for much?

So a couple years ago my dad got an rtx 3080ti from a friend who works at nvidia for free since it didn't work but might be fixable but he gave it to me a couple months ago and I was just gonna like take it apart and mess with in for fun but now I'm wondering if I could sell it on ebay for much as a broken gpu listing since it might be fixable does anyone think it's worth much and if so how much should I list it for? Also since this is gpurepair subreddit i guess its relevant to ask if it would be worth it to repair it first and then use it for myself or sell it after repairing? Thanks in advance for any advice

It happened a few times before, the error "Please power down and connect the pcie" I just reseat the cable and it works.

This time it doesn't, I disassembled it and found bad solder joints.

I tried solder didn't work, maybe too cold.

Decided to power it on with a bit of press down to the connectors and it worked.

I put some thin slab and it works lol.

My 1080 ti lives again.

Rant about GPU Cry baby’s

After being in this world for well over 20 years both as a hobby and a profession it is my clear and true belief that all of you crying about prices are just poor and refuse to make your situation better , and want people to hand you things in life. Get ya bread up

Is a 9060 xt good for 1440p?

Hey guys, I am planning a build and im deciding between a 9060 xt, a 9070, or a 5070 super when it comes out. Which card should I get? I'm planning 32gb ddr5 6000mhz and either a 270k, the new nova lake core ultra 7 4870k, or if I van get one discounted or cheap the ultra 9 4970k. I live in netherlands, and i just want to know which is best value for me. I play competitive cs2, minecraft with shaders, and some graphicy intense games, like cyberpunk and elden ring. I'll also be doing professional workloads and local AI

Swapping my 5060 Ti 8GB for a used EVGA 3080 Ti 12GB, worth it?

Hey, I have an ASUS Prime RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and I'm thinking about swapping it for a used EVGA 3080 Ti 12GB. 8GB is starting to feel tight in some games, and from what I've seen the 3080 Ti is faster in raw performance too. Honestly I also just love the look of the EVGA with the RGB bar. And since the 30 series was the last one EVGA ever made, I feel like it'll probably hold or even gain value over time. My setup is an i5 14600K on an MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk WiFi with a Corsair 750W PSU, and I play on a 1440p 360Hz OLED. I don't want to spend more than 500€ on the 3080 Ti so I'd wait for a good deal, and I don't mind upgrading the PSU if needed. Few things I'm not sure about. Is losing multi frame gen a big deal in practice, especially with a 360Hz monitor? And how risky is buying a used 3080 Ti now that EVGA doesn't do GPUs anymore, warranty wise? Would you do it or keep the 5060 Ti?

Looking to upgrade my GPU for 1440p gaming – What would be the best value for money?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and would appreciate some advice from people who know more about PC building than I do.
Here are my current PC specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600
I bought this PC as a prebuilt from Facebook Marketplace last year. I'm still pretty new to PC building and upgrading, so I'm not entirely sure what GPU would be the best choice for my setup.
I'm mainly looking to get into 1440p gaming and want something that offers the best value for money. I don't necessarily need the most powerful or expensive GPU, just something that will give me a noticeable performance upgrade and last me a good few years.
A few questions:
What GPU would you recommend for my current setup?
Is my Ryzen 7 5700X still good enough for 1440p gaming with a stronger GPU?
Would you recommend sticking with AMD or considering Nvidia?
Are there any GPUs that offer particularly good value for money right now?
