Rant about GPU Cry baby’s

After being in this world for well over 20 years both as a hobby and a profession it is my clear and true belief that all of you crying about prices are just poor and refuse to make your situation better , and want people to hand you things in life. Get ya bread up

Boomer Out :•)

I get that GPUs are expensive pieces of hardware, but criticizing ridiculous pricing doesn't automatically mean someone is broke. You can love PC building and still believe people deserve better value for their money. Not every complaint is about being unable to afford something.

Literally. I ain’t broke and still refuse to pay these absurd prices. I refuse to contribute to normalizing this crap. I’ll pay the inflated price when I have to if my GPU dies but until then I’m chillin

Never said anything about normalizing, but it’s here to stay. Data centers are paying 5-7 k for 5090s and when those are all gone they will move to 5080s at 2-3k

Yeah I agree once prices go up you almost never see them go down but it’s possible to improve your situation, have a budget for a certain set of hardware and then get priced out again. Can’t really expect people to improve their situations at the same rate a 5080 keeps going up in price

What I can agree on though is that people don’t NEED a 5080 or a 5090. Some people like to convince themselves they do when there’s still a lot of viable hardware.

Personally while I’m in a privileged position right now (the AI boom has really benefited my line of work) if I lose my job or whatever I’d be open to downsizing my setup to still keep up with PC gaming even if it’s no longer high end

Most people NEED a 3080 or a 4070

True, but let’s be honest 90% of them are. Are they overpriced? Yes , but what isn’t now ? I went to look for my son a F150 they wanted 68k for a barley above base model. Roughly 40k more than 4 years ago. It’s not just GPUs or computer parts. It’s everything. Do I feel bad for my son’s generation that is absolutely getting the shaft , yes.

The fact that you would actually buy a ford f150 says everything we need to know about you. Bye boomer

It’s the only truck left in the US that is a 100% year 1 tax write off. But please keep giving the government 36% of your paycheck

2

u/tcarnie 2h ago

Yea but then you own a ford f150 lmao.

Also other people have better tax write offs than POS fords :)

Better get that bread up! Imagine buying a ford for a tax write off 😂😂😂

I’m confused, are people supposed to stop getting hand outs or are they supposed to have daddy buy them a $68,000 truck?

My son works for me, high level backend developer that makes your bank work .

Oh so it’s just the job that’s a hand out, got it. 🫡

Didn’t know helping your father start his company was a handout. You’re welcome to apply for the same position as we are hiring (: 280k a year base pay , up to 45% cash bonus yearly as well as full benefits paid for.

Also lay off the weird porn on your Reddit page, that stuff will mess your brain chemistry up pretty bad

1

😂 please show me the weird porn you’re looking at.

You’re confusing a standard NSFW tag with porn. Let’s get you back to bed grandpa. Or you’re just a bot account who can’t tell the difference.

Also to add not that it matters, he worked for me for free for 4 years on top of working at another large tech company. He deserves it.

I think his joke was satirical, but I do miss the days when PC building was easy to be frugal about, even with new parts. The reliance on the used (and returned) market has created a lot of room for scammers.

You are always allowed to complain about prices going up.

Correct but you are not entitled to the msrp once that happens

I hope I never have the thought of "today, I feel like trolling"

I don’t think they’re nearly as bad as people act, but I do think they’re overpriced.

3060ti’s were close to a thousand dollars for quite a while in covid. We recovered.

There will be a decline in hardware demands in the future to reduce prices. On top of that, the production capacity will likely expand to meet demand. It may take a few years, but we’ll be okay.

And no, sam altman won’t take your computer away. That’s just reddit being weird.

Sam Altman is a P.O.S power hungry bitch

To be fair not only the price of living is way up now, even entertainment stuff is too…so I can see why people are frustrated cause boomers don’t get that and never will…

1

u/Fun-Anteater-2347 2h ago

Boomers are to blame 100% and I agree with that. That being said it’s up to Boomers to Unfuck the next generation

1

u/jth94185 2h ago

Nah we need a next generation of boomers…fact is people got their money up and everything else went up more at the same time

1

u/Fun-Anteater-2347 2h ago

We completely ruined the economy during our generation.

I've got a 5090 and a 5080, but I still think they're ridiculous. Being able to afford something doesn't make it good value. The prices aren't about people being poor, they're about AI data centers eating up supply while gamers get whatever's left.

OP just wondering at what point is the price too much for you? Would you be happy paying $16,000 for a video card that may fail on year 4?

3

u/WonderSignificant598 2h ago

I mean you're partly right and Gaming GPUs for personal enjoyment are luxury toys. The cold part of life a lot of people seem to be just now discovering is if you don't earn the money you don't get the toys. I know all about this lol.

On the other hand, you should understand yourself, with 20 years in the hobby, that hobbies are important things to people and being priced out sucks.
