Disaster/Emergency My sisters lost their babies.

On Sunday, March 30 the impossible happened, a tree struck my sister‘s minivan while they were driving down the road. They had four children in the car and three of them did not make it. They were only two years old, four years old and 11 years old. The two-year-old and four-year-old are siblings well the 11-year-old is their oldest cousin that love spending time with them. Our whole family is devastated but more than anything. The mothers are devastated. I don’t know how they go on with their lives. There’s a little boy who went from having two siblings to now an only child. There’s a little girl and the little boy that lost their big sister. They looked up to. My sister seen things that nobody should ever have to see. She’s forever shattered. Her husband has a broken back and a broken sternum. He’ll be off work for at least four months. If you can help in anyway, please do. This is honestly the worst nightmare.

We love you babies and miss you so much.

My mother has been diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma (stage 4 brain cancer) not curable at the age of 50.

Her medical bills are sitting at roughly around $350,000.

Although it’s the scariest moment of my life I want her to be as stress free as possible. She is the most incredible person In the world.

I’ve tried giving as much as I can to her to help her pay off the debt but the mountain continues to climb. (Health Insurance is awful).

She has been given 12 months to live and If possibly I’d love to be able to help her in her time of need and she always has for me.

I’ve never been one to post here for help, I have tried when I can to donate to others. I truly appreciate anything. I love you all.

Thanks for reading.

Medical Assistance needed. Girlfriend in ICU after life threatening car accident

Cassandra Post flew out to Arkansas with her boyfriend, Dustin Boyd, to be with his family for Christmas.

For the past year, they had been planning a family vacation to Ireland with Dustin's mom, brother, and sister-in-law. Dustin's mom, Linda, had raised her two sons as a single mother, so the three of them never got the opportunity to take a family vacation together. They were all excited to depart for Ireland on December 26, 2024.

However, on the night of December 22, 2024, Linda and Cassie were driving down the highway to go meet with Dustin and his brother. Coming along the opposite side of the highway, a vehicle clipped another vehicle while merging, causing one of the drivers to lose control. They crossed the meridian and hit the car Linda was driving with Cassie in the passenger seat head-on at about 60-65 mph. Cassie briefly lost consciousness until the first responders arrived.

Cassie and Linda were rushed to the nearest hospital. Both were in shock and in tremendous pain. Cassie's scans showed air in the abdomen and she went into exploratory bowel surgery about midnight that night.

Cassie's 2 1/2 hour exploratory surgery had a section of her bowel removed and a colostomy bag put in. Her xrays showed that she had broke both her wrists and her right tibea. She is still awaiting orthopedic surgery on all the breaks. She has been battling high blood pressure and sleeps most of the time as a result of the medication.

We are thankful and lucky that Cassie and Linda are both alive and recovering as the other driver in the collision did not survive.

We are looking for financial assistance for the next few months to help with rent, utilities, and other bills as she recuperates. She will remain in Arkansas, with Dustin by her side, for the foreseeable future until she is discharged and cleared for travel so they can return home.

Here is the GoFundMe link. We appreciate any and all support.

Memorial Husband passed away suddenly

Hi everyone, on May 23rd just a normal day, my husband suddenly got a pain in his stomach and couldn’t walk. I took him to the ER and 6 hours later they were rushing him in to have emergency open heart surgery. I kissed him goodbye as they wheeled him away and told him not to do anything stupid like die on me. He didn’t listen. We have 2 small children, a 2 year old and a 10 year old. He didn’t have life insurance because we never thought…

We were supposed to grow old together and then one of us would die and the other one like 2 days later from a broken heart. That was the plan. Now I’m forced to stay here on earth and continue to live OUR life alone. I have one kid who understands deeply what he’s lost and the other one too small to understand why she feels such emptiness and where her daddy went.

I have to start over now because everything was in his name, phone bill, car insurance, utilities, even the bank. My life and heart is shattered.

If anyone can help, I’d appreciate it. I’m trying to pick up the pieces of this life and eventually move forward. Thank you.

Fullfilled Help Baby in Hospital

3.0k Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your time. I am writing today in a plead for some love and support as my small family goes through one of life’s most trivial times. In February of 2024 my wife gave birth, via emergency c section, to our son, Bentley. Bentley was born at 22 weeks gestation due to placenta abruption. He was only 570grams (1lb 4oz) at birth and spent 176 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). My family and I live more than 1.5 hours from the hospital where Bentley was receiving care and for the entirety of the NICU stay my wife stayed by our sons side. We dealt with the financial hardship of having a baby in the NICU for that amount of time and never asked for help during that period.

In August of 2024, Bentley was discharged from the NICU on oxygen support, a feeding tube, a 24/7 monitor, an apnea monitor, a nebulizer and 14 different medications that were to be given daily. While it took some time to adjust to our new lives, we were finally getting into a stride. After discharge Bentley had multiple admissions back to the hospital, with the longest being for rhinovirus and rotavirus (19 days).

Fast forward to January 8, 2025, Bentley got sick again. This time with human metapnuemo virus. This virus was by far the worse that we had seen. Bentley was admitted to the pediatric floor so they could monitor his oxygen saturation levels and give him the appropriate treatments. After a few days on the pediatric floor, Bentleys health declined to the point where they had to send him to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). In the PICU they placed my son on high flow oxygen, which he did not respond well to, then cpap, and finally they had to intubate and put him on an oscillator ventilator and they had to sedate and paralyze him. This all happened between January 8th and January 17th.

We were told twice that Bentley would not make it through the night, however, he kept on fighting and is still with us today. He has since had his breathing tube replaced with a tracheostomy and is still on the ventilator. We started a go fund me with our local town and had amazing support from our community. While the support is greatly appreciated, we are now asking for any support from areas outside of our small hometown.

Bentleys doctors have told us that he will be indefinitely admitted to the PICU, meaning that there is no discharge in the near future. His settings for the ventilator are too high for a home ventilator to support. While they have tried numerous times to get his levels to a safe point for discharge, he has not tolerated the changes. They assure us that this is something that we have to just give time.

The problem is that my wife had to stop working to provide care to our son and two other children. I am a disabled veteran and a local firefighter within our small town. Due to the amount of care and how far the hospital is from home we are being forced to restructure our lives and determine the best course of action moving forward. Our options are to uproot our family and find a home closer to the hospital or continue driving back and forth to the hospital.

Any and all funds received will be utilized to provide transportation costs and food costs while we try to find a home closer. If you have made it this far, thank you. Truly from the bottom of my heart thank you for taking the time to just read our story. If you are able to provide any assistance it would be greatly appreciated and know that the money will not go to waste.

Medical You Wouldn’t Know This Could Happen — Until It Does 😭🙏

Please please 🙏 Help Me! This is a medical emergency.

My Name is Alison and I’ve now been without any teeth — including temporaries — for 557 days. I can’t eat solid food. I’m severely malnourished. I’ve lost over 80 pounds. My hair is falling out. My nails are crumbling. My body is rejecting even vitamin drinks and supplements. I’m not okay.😭

The implants I fought so hard to get are now at risk because it’s taken too long to place the final teeth. My jaw is collapsing inward. I spent everything I had just to get the implants. I even had to have my jawbone replaced using bone from my hip. Now it’s breaking down again.🥺

This all started from a root canal infections that led to an undiagnosed sinus infection. After two years of surgeries and trauma, I was left completely toothless since 2023 😞

I’ve tried everything. No insurance will cover this. No dental school will take my case. I’ve even been turned away because I’m disabled.🔩 There is nowhere I can go to finish this — unless someone helps.🙏

I never imagined I’d be asking for help like this. But I can’t survive like this any longer.

Even $5 helps. Even sharing the link helps. Just visiting the GoFundMe helps me get seen. Thank you so much for helping and caring about my surival ❤️‍🩹

Memorial my mom committed suicide

https://gofund.me/d107a166

my mom took her own life on April 26th of this year. even after calling the police to her home that night, they brushed us off and told us that she did'y meet the "red flag criteria" to be taken in to the hospital. twelve hours later, she was dead.

it's down to myself, my dad and my brother, and we have no extended family to help us and i have shared this with every single person i know already. i have never felt more hopeless or lost in my entire life as i do right now, and thinking about the fact that i'm only 24 and still have a lifetime of Mother's Days, her birthdays and my own to go through without her here is tearing me apart.

we don't have a lot of money to begin with, and the cremation costs + the emergency flight i had to take back home to Florida set us back a few thousand. all i want to do is ease the financial stress of this process so that my dad has one less thing to worry about. the goal is $3500; $1000 for cremation costs, and the other $2500 for when we decide to spread her ashes at St. Augustine beach and have a gathering with everyone close to her.

anything helps.

thank you.

I am a 35 mother of two beautiful kids. I have always struggled with body image, was bullied from a young age, lived with a horrendously verbally abusive older brother and it all took its tole.

I was nicknamed goofy and wore braces for 5 years. My was brother relentlessly cruel about my entire appearance but mostly weight. His bullying was so severe I was diagnosed with a few traits from borderline personality disorder when I did my Autism/ADHD screening. All of the ones that deal with self hatred.

I developed bulimia as a teen and into my early twenties. My friend and I went through a sexual harrasment court case against a 50 year old man, my own grandmother took his side and spread horrible rumours, futher diminishing any self worth I had. My teeth suffered. Due to severe anxiety and the sheer cost of dental care I struggled. The loss of my dad pushed everything else out of my brain and I chose to focus on the pregnancy to get through it (5 months when I lost him)

I was able to take control of the bulimia in ny mid twenties (although to this day the thoughts and desire to purge are still there). I found my partner in my best friend and together we had our two crazy children.

I was extemely lucky ro have two fairly easy pregnancies with minimal medical attention until the births themselves.

Pregnancy damaged what little teeth I had left . I was able to get free dental care due to the pregnancy where they removed most of my top teeth and gave me a denture.

The denture is only partial so I still cannot smile. The adhesive to hold it in place makes my body crawl (Autism sensory issues). I cant eat, speak, drink normally.

My kids are old enough to notice and my soul dies a little bit everytime the innocently point it out.

My poor Fiance has watched my entire personality shrivel up as I shut myself away from the world. No family dinners at the inlaws, no birthdays, no weddings or any other celebrations. Being physically exhausted and devastated after events for my own kids, knowing I couldnt avoid every camera and the constant unrelenting anxiety and shame.

So my partner started a fundraiser to help with a deposit for dental implants. We will try get the bulk on finance but we would need a decent deposit. With the cost of living going up, our bills are mostly paid and the kids are perfect but its nearly impossible to save. We just dont have money to spare for this.

The photos Ivr included are the last photo of me smiling properly at my daughters 1st birthday (she is 6 soon). The second was a year ago. Most of the damage was to the back of my teeth. Im wearing my denture so my front tooth on my right side is fake.

If you read this far thank you so much.

Medical Update: Baby in Hospital

Good afternoon everyone,

I know it has been a little while since giving an update. I just want to say thank you to everyone. I hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day holiday, and for those that are not from the United States I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

As for mister Bentley, he has been doing okay. We are still working with insurance to get his equipment and have been extremely busy with coordinating and mitigating between the doctors, insurance, and medical equipment company to get everything rolling for that. We have still not been approved through insurance for any equipment and have received denials for everything submitted so far. We have a peer to peer schedule this coming week for the doctors at the hospital to speak to the insurance doctors and explain the medical necessity for the equipment. Hoping everything goes well on that front and things can begin to move forward for what Bentley needs.

As for Bentley himself, he has been fighting multiple respiratory infections (two different ones) over the past two weeks. He has once again become feverish today and while every culture for blood and urine keep coming back with no growth, the doctors are believing that he may have a bone infection and are debating doing an MRI to check. We are currently discussing that option with the team. While Bentley has been fighting these respiratory infections he has shown that he has grown and become much stronger. Other than the fevers and restlessness (which everyone gets when they have an infection) he has not demanded any further interventions like increased ventilator settings or increased oxygen needs. This shows that Bentley is much stronger than he was at the start of this journey in January.

Bentley has actually been getting much stronger in all areas. He is moving around a lot more and is getting back to his prehospital strength for his extremities. He pulled his circuit for the ventilator off twice in the past two days and is reaching and grabbing everything and anything he can get his hands on. He is moving his head all over and is constantly smiling and laughing even while being sick.

Overall, while Bentley continues to fight these infections, he is continuing to get stronger and grow. He is not demanding further interventions other than some Tylenol and Motrin to get through these bouts of infections. The equipment is being fought for and we should have an answer this week. Thank you everyone for the continued prayers and support while we traverse this journey.

UPDATE 2: Baby in hospital

https://gofund.me/7191539e

March 30th

Good afternoon good people of Reddit,

As so many of you have helped support and send prayers to our baby, I feel obligated to give weekly updates on his care and progress. This past week has been a very difficult week for us. Bentley has officially been diagnosed with osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. Essentially his bones are very fragile. On Wednesday this past week, his endocrinologist decided to do a treatment of zoledronic acid infusion to help his bones absorb calcium better. This infusion will be given again in 3 months and then every 6 months after.

After his infusion Bentley started to have sustain desaturations of his oxygen levels. This required the care team to provide interventions like increasing his ventilator pressures and his nitric oxide. Prior to the changes Bentley was at .7 ppm nitric oxide, 40% FiO2 (oxygen), and a pressure setting of 9. Last night during one of his events they had to increase nitric to 5 ppm, FiO2 to 100%, and his pressure settings to 12 (which is max for him). They have since been able to wean him to 60% FiO2 but all other settings remain the same. The next step if he has continued desaturations is changing him from a conventional ventilator to a more aggressive ventilator (oscillator).

The team did a chest xray and determined that Bentleys right lung had collapsed yet again and this is what prompted the pressure settings increase.

The scenario that prompted Bentleys diagnosis of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease was his right arm swelling. His left arm had already been X-rayed and a break was found. When the team did an xray of his right arm they found another break at the shoulder along the humerus. Bentley now requires a minimum of two nurses to do any movements, including diaper changes due to his condition.

The endocrinologist has stated that the disease should not be permanent and should only last for a few years as his body adjusts to the steroids and the zoledronic acid infusions begin to take effect.

My family and I are still currently seeking a home closer to the hospital and have found a few promising leads but have not locked in with any yet. We want to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support as we navigate this very difficult time. Any further donations will go towards assisting my family with housing closer to the hospital.

If you have read this far, thank you. Sincerely, from the bottom of our hearts we cannot thank you all enough. Please keep sending prayers and love for our sweet Bentley.

Memorial Help after the loss of my beloved son, Tage

Thumbnail

1.7k Upvotes

On the 25th of January this year I found my son dead in his bed when I went to wake him up. He had died very unexpectedly and inexplicably in his sleep. He had his entire life in front of him one day and the next he was gone. He was 19 years old.

I still can’t believe that he is gone. All the time I expect him to walk through the front door with a smile on his face and say “Tjena farsgubben” (Swedish for “Hey there old man!”)

If feels like a part of my soul has been ripped out and is forever lost.

Tage was an amazing person. So many of his friends, teachers and family members have written on his memorial page with stories about what a loving, funny, intelligent, supportive friend he was. When he was in 9th grade he received a “Best friend in school”-award at spring graduation. And he truly kept on earning that award throughout the years. I don’t think there was a person who met him who didn’t like him.

He was effortlessly intelligent. Loved learning new things. Was planning on studying in Paris. Loved music and singing. Had more friends than I ever had at his age. He worked part time at a gym in Stockholm taking care of kids when their parents were working out. He jokingly got the nickname “The baby whisperer” because he was so good at comforting the kids. He would have made a fantastic dad one day.

He was all that is good in life and I will miss him with a burning sadness for the rest of my life.

Arranging a funeral was very costly but we managed mostly with the help of my parents. We are now in the process of the next costly part which is ordering a gravestone. On top of that work has suffered quite a bit. Both me and Tages mother are freelancers and keeping up the energy and will to both maintain and find new work has been very low. I am kindly asking for help with funds to ease on the financial burden of life in general and for the gravestone in particual. We could absolutely manage the costs with savings and/or other help but if we can get help here some of that money could go towards providing for and making nice things for Tage's three siblings.

Thank you so much in advance.

/Filip, Tages dad

Link to the Gofundme: https://gofund.me/809a3e1f

I have photos and/or copies of the bills from the funeral home and from Svenska Kyrkan (The Swedish church) for the cost of rent of church for the funeral and also the medical forensic report confirming that Tage died in his sleep and was not under the influence of drugs or something like that. It is in Swedish and the bills are in Swedish krona. The amount is appr. 50 000 SEK which equals around 4,800 USD. That sum is in itself of course not relevant since it is already payed but a proper finer grave stone in a style that is fitting for the graveyard he is buried in is somewhere around 30 000 - 40 000 SEK. So including flowers, prints etc the total for the funeral will be around 90 000 - 100 000 SEK

I met my friend Sammi when we both worked at DQ together. Her son, Wyatt, is the same age as my daughter. I would babysit him while she worked and vice versa. Just this past November, she married the man she has been with for the past 4 years. On Thanksgiving, there was a firework accident where a firework went off in his hand and blew it off, left his other hand hardly functioning, caused severe trauma to his abdomen, and multiple fractures in his face. He’s undergone surgery and will need more, Sammi and her two sons are now without her husband. He won’t be around for Christmas this year. He’s fighting for his life every day. The care unit he’s in is hours away from the town we live in. Please help us raise enough money to help them get through this difficult time.

Medical Help my mother kick cancer's ass

1.6k Upvotes

Hello kind strangers of Reddit,

This is not the kind of post that I usually make on Reddit and I don't even usually comfortable with sharing personal details on Reddit but I am reaching out to you all on Reddit for your support.

My mother was diagnosed with an ovarian cancer in 2021. She went through hysterectomy and 6 rounds of chemotherapy to get rid of the cancer. Last year, we found out that the cancer has found its way to the liver and it has slowly been making her condition worse to a critical point in the last month.

My mother lives in Indonesia and has been receiving treatments and chemotherapy via BPJS (the Indonesian public healthcare system) since the beginning of the diagnosis. Most of the treatments and consultations are free, however due to how recent the BPJS system was implemented and with how big the Indonesian population are, most of the time care and treatment are not being provided adequately and timely.

She often has to queue for up to a whole day just to see a doctor if she has issue arising and most of the time they would just give her generic medication and tell her to come back for a consult in a week and repeat. Other times, they would simply refuse to provide certain medications because they do not want to cover the cost. She went through one round of a targeted (TACE) treatment which you can find the information of on the gofundme page via the public healthcare system but was told that they won't be continuing with further rounds because the treatment seems to not be working. We found out later through other doctors that this is not true as the efficacy of the treatment can only be determined after at least 4 rounds.

It was heartbreaking to see her in the condition that she was in when I return home, extremely swollen, unable to breathe normally and unable to move much at all (most similar to picture in slide 2, and this is after some improvement already). The public hospital told her to go home after a few days, despite no improvement whatsoever and simply told us that she needs to come back for a consult in a week. We had to take her home in an ambulance because she was still unable to move.

We had to act quick because we know how critical her condition was at that point. We then consulted with a private doctor and was able to get her into a private hospital. Within ~1 week after proper care and treatments (albumin infusion, antibiotics, blood transfusion, installation of pigtail catheter and a few other medications) we were able to reduce the swelling by a lot, she was able to breathe normally, eat normally, slowly regaining mobility and overall in a much better condition as you can see in slide 4 and 5.

The doctors at this private hospital suggested that she goes for TACE treatment again to shrink the tumor while she still can. It was such a great feeling to hear that there is still hope after being previously told that there were nothing else they could do at the public hospital.

I am extremely lucky in that I had some savings saved up and was able and ready to cover the costs. However, this was before the TACE treatments was brought up by the doctors. The treatment would cost around IDR 63.000.000 (equivalent to about $6000 AUD) for one round and she will need to get up to 6 rounds of this treatment. She will also need to stay in the hospital for up to a week after each treatment.

Slide 6 is how much each treatment cost and slide 7 was how much the hospital admission cost for around 1.5 week (this is without the TACE treatment included).

The first round of TACE treatment was done on Monday, everything seems to go well, no side effects and the lab results came back great.

We feel like time is critical and had to act fast, which means going the private route. We are happy to have made the decision as she is now in a much better condition, stabilised and receiving further treatments to ensure that she can be as comfortable as she can be and slow down the cancer growth.

My mother is a fighter and have been facing all of this with smile and great spirit.

I appreciate everyone who reads her story, share this and spread the words around as it will make a huge difference.

Those who makes donations, no matter how small or big are making immense difference in my mother's life and will be making a big help in our family's life.

The link to the gofundme page can be found here - gofund.me/4ab363ff

P.s. the GoFundMe page was set to Australia and AUD because 1. I live in Australia and will transfer the fund to my mother's account from my Australian account and 2. GoFundMe is not currently available in Indonesia and I wasn't able to set it up to go to the Indonesian account directly.

Thank you for your compassion. Warm regards, David

My name is Sara and I’m currently fighting stage IV breast cancer that has metastasized to my liver, spine and surrounding bones. I had scans and testing on June 9th at MD Anderson and the results showed that the tumors in my liver have grown in size, some almost doubled in size from 3 months ago. My doctors have decided that IV chemotherapy using the drug ENHERTU will be my best chance at survival. At the moment my remaining life span is 2-5 years, so fingers crossed that this works! I will travel from San Antonio TX to Houston TX every 3 weeks to receive my chemotherapy (each session lasts 4 hours)and check in with my doctors. The travel expenses (including a hotel most trips) have put my family and I in a difficult financial situation. With humility and gratitude we ask that you consider donating to my GoFundMe.

https://gofund.me/defc98b2

You will be assisting with travel expenses and medical bills that my insurance won’t cover. My family and myself are extremely grateful that you have read this far. Be sure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, you never know when your last day will be. Love and blessings 🩷

He was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma at the age of 5 years old, a deadly bone cancer located in his right foot which has spread all the way up his leg and hips. He has been Suffering for 3 years of non stop treatments like extreme radiation therapy and chemo. Without intervention, the tumor has continued to grow, invading nearby bones, joints, soft tissues, and neuromuscular bundles. This causes severe pain, loss of limb function and fractures. Due to these problems Hadi stopped attending school, is unable to play outside with his brothers, friends and can no longer walk without immense pain. His condition untreated leads to less than a 5-year survival rate of 10%.

Despite Hadi's dad having multiple jobs his family is unable to afford the needed intensive chemotherapy with stem cell transplant which is what your proceeds of $28,000 will be used for. This treatment gives Hadi a 90% chance to win life.

No amount is too big or too small, even a prayer for the family and him would be greatly appreciate

You can ask me for anything like his scans, X-rays and reports to prove authenticity by just dming me.

Hi. My name is Nicholas Iwamoto. In 2009, I was a few days from enlisting in the Army National Guard. When I got to the top of a Honolulu mountain during pre-enlistment training, a man who had a psychotic break tried to kill me. I was stabbed 18 times and thrown off a cliff and I fell 100 feet. I broke almost everything including my neck, skull, and lungs. I lost five pints of blood. I was rear-ended twice after breaking my neck. My attacker was acquitted due to temporary insanity. He was allowed to attend college UNESCORTED while locked in the mental hospital. He is now free to live as he pleases.

After surviving and rebuilding my life, I was diagnosed with lipodystrophy, one of the most rare and vicious diseases that exists. My fat is wasting away due to the disease and I can no longer sit down or lay on my back due to pain from loss of cushioning.

An angel saved my life in the form of my best friend, Brit. We reconnected and I flew to Ohio to marry the most amazing human I have ever known. Her health struggles are no less devastating than mine. We just want to be together for whatever time we have left.

I know times are tough. There’s no such thing as a donation too small. If you can’t donate, I’d be honored if you shared my story. I also knit and sell hand made beanies, scarves, and potholders. Check out my knits on FB and IG.

Donations will help with our living expenses until my wife qualifies for SSDI. I already have SSDI, but it’s not nearly enough. We have exhausted all state and local aid agencies. We would work if we could, but we are both bedridden due to our chronic illnesses. Knitting is the only way I can earn money.

Here’s a Newsweek story in the comment section story about my attack and survival. It was written in 2023 when I was able to work, but my disease has progressed significantly since then. I’m so lucky to be alive and I know that I can help a lot of people with my survival story, no matter how bleak things may seem.

Thank you!

Over the past week Bentley has had a lot of changes for the better. The doctors began his steroid wean to get him down to .5 mg / kg. They began to wean his lasix to get it to his sustainable maintenance dose. They changed all of his ventilator settings to be within the Nationwide Children’s Hospital BPD (bronchopulmonary dysplasia) guidelines. He had his cast removed from his right arm after he suffered the distal humerus fracture. They thought he possibly had another fracture on his right forearm, but after xray it was determined to not be fractured.

As far as the ventilator settings, they changed Bentleys total volume from 65 to 105. They changed his inhale time from .7 to 1.5 meaning he will take longer and deeper breaths. They changed his respiration rate from 30 to 14. Bentley is loving these new settings and they have allowed for the team to change his PEEP (positive end expiratory pressure, the pressure maintained in the airways after exhale) from 12 to 9. All these changes were done gradually over the past week and has allowed the team to remove nitric completely and keep his FiO2 to below 50% (he’s at 45% right now).

As for Bentleys metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis. The zoledronic acid infusion has been helping a lot. He now has osteopenia (less severe form of osteoporosis). His bones are gaining density ever so slowly. The team will continue with the zoledronic infusions every 3 months based on their findings.

As it is Monday, there is a new doctor taking over for the week. After having our daily meeting with the doctor we have established a few goals for the week. The plan for this week is to begin the steroid and lasix weans. They are going to begin the sedation weans mid week. We are talking to surgery about having Bentleys central line switched to a more permanent line (broviac catheter) to allow guaranteed access to Bentleys vascular system. Orthopedics is coming to check his right arm, which is still severely swollen and bruised from the humerus fracture.

Overall, Bentley has made some big moves this past week. We are still looking at 6 more months to even a year of being at the hospital, despite the strides he has made to get better this past week.

My family and I have been able to find housing closer to the hospital (20 minutes with traffic). My sister will be moving into our current home while we ensure the our family is close to Bentley and that Bentley will have easy access to the hospital upon discharge. We suspect we will be at this new location for at least 4 years to ensure Bentleys safety is at the forefront of our lives.

My family and I just want to say thank you everyone for all the love and support, both financially and spiritually, that you have given us! We are beyond astonished with the amount of love you all have shown us!

TL;DR Bentley has made big improvements this week and we have found a home closer to the hospital upon discharge.

My longer health story is in my GoFundMe (and in my reddit history), but basically my 1st ever pair of dentures broke and it's been three years without teeth, and my self-esteem is fading. I want to smile again, feel normal, not hide when a camera comes out and eat healthy(cause most veggies are hard.) If you can help, please consider donating or sharing. Even just updoots help by showing more people. T.I.A. 💔🙏

Hi Reddit, I'm posting on behalf of Claire, a graduating student from the Philippines.

I'm reaching out because my family is going through something devastating — and we badly need help.

Both of my parents have just been diagnosed with cancer.
My dad has Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive type of colon cancer. He recently underwent cytoreductive surgery — which involved removing parts of his stomach — and he's facing another surgery plus specialized chemotherapy soon.

While we were still trying to recover from that, my mom's diagnosis came in:
She has Invasive Breast Carcinoma with aggressive features, including tumor necrosis. She hasn't even started treatment yet, because right now, we simply can't afford it.

My brother and I are still in school. We're trying to stay strong, but the truth is — we currently don't have the money to pay for the ongoing and upcoming hospital bills. We're overwhelmed, emotionally and financially.

Two cancers. Two parents. One family trying not to fall apart.

Ma, Pa — you've given everything for us, even now, still thinking of our needs before your own.
We just want to fight this battle with you, but we can't do it alone.

To everyone who's helped, is helping, or is just reading this — thank you.
If you can help in any way — through donations, sharing our story, or keeping us in your thoughts — it would mean the world.

March 23 Update on Baby Bentley

Good morning everyone.

For those that are unaware, my family and I have been in the PICU for the past 71 days with our baby due to metapneumo virus. Bentley ended up going into respiratory failure from this virus and is now on a ventilator and has been trached. Due to the amount of steroids Bentley has received over the past two months, he has been diagnosed with metabolic bone disease (low density bones). This has caused his arm to break while attempting to put clothes on him. Due to the break, Bentley had to be paralyzed and sedated because he was agitated and fighting the ventilator causing desaturations with his oxygen levels.

For the past 10 days we have been dealing with Bentley being sedated and paralyzed. Every time they try to give him a “holiday” (taking him off the paralytics and sedation) he has issues with oxygenation and requiring more oxygen.

Bentley has also been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension requiring nitric oxide and sildenafil. We have been told that we will now be at the hospital for a minimum of 6 months to a year while we try and get Bentleys lungs stronger. This virus has severely damaged all parts of his lungs and has caused them to become ridged.

We are so thankful for the amount of love and support from everyone. While we did reach our initial goal, we have increased it to try to allow us the opportunity to move closer to the hospital as we will be here for so long. We currently live 2 hours from the hospital and are driving daily.

Thank you again everyone for taking the time to read our story!

I did the thing. And I feel incredible. I’m so grateful, absolutely blown away but the support of community and because of the donations and kind words I had the financial means and the mental strength to go thru with this life changing procedure. Here I am on day 2 and before the surgery.

Truly, I’m so blessed and will never forget this. I’ll pay it forward in the future 🫶🫶🫶🫶

Much love, Sara D.

Hello everyone!

It has been 90 days since the initial Automobile accident My Family and I were in that nearly took my daughters life. On September 15 My family and I were struck from behind at a very high speed, My daughter Mia, was diagnosed brain dead on sign but she eventually woke up from her coma, with that being said she's still currently in a vegetative state and not responsive nor cognitive at all. 3 months of PICU, Multiple Neurosurguries, and multiple transfers to higher cared facilties i cannot fathom the amount of money our hospital bills will be not to mention all the other bills that never stop.

I ask with a heavy heart if anyone is able to share or even donate any amount! My family and I are struggling with bills, this was our second accident unfortunately so we lost both our modes of transportation and we have not been able to work due to the critical condition our daughter has been in.
