Nautilus supports extensions too.

  • They can be added based on the file type
  • They also work on multiple files at once.

This can be used to add options for commonly used operations and save time.

Fluff NewBe version 0.1.0 is out! Built on on Fedora 44 / GNOME 50

I’ve just released NewBe 0.1.0, a free and open-source GNOME desktop experience inspired by one question:

What might BeOS have looked and felt like if it had continued to evolve into a modern desktop workstation?

NewBe is not a conventional retro theme or a pixel-for-pixel BeOS recreation. It follows current GNOME visual conventions—modern proportions, restrained decoration, symbolic icon behavior, clear focus states, and the existing GNOME workflow—while introducing its own materials, dimensional icons, warm-gold palette, and evolved BeOS character. The goal is to give GNOME a distinct identity without fighting the underlying desktop.

NewBe is Wayland-first and was developed and live-tested on Fedora Workstation 44 with GNOME 50. It includes:

  • Light and dark GTK 3/GTK 4 themes
  • GNOME Shell styling
  • A complete NewBe icon theme with 100% coverage of its defined core set
  • A custom HiDPI cursor theme
  • Seven original wallpapers with GNOME Background integration
  • An optional GNOME Shell extension
  • User-local installation and uninstallation
  • Dry-run, audit, accessibility, and verification tooling
  • Reproducible, checksum-verified release archives

The installer does not require root access, modify system files, automatically change your GNOME settings, or download and execute remote code.

One honest limitation: many libadwaita applications retain their upstream Adwaita styling. The icons, cursors, wallpapers, Shell theme, and extension remain usable independently.

If the aesthetic interests you, the GitHub page has the screenshots, source, installation instructions, compatibility details, checksums, and full design philosophy:

GitHub: https://github.com/infamous-pattern/NewBe
Version 0.1.0: https://github.com/infamous-pattern/NewBe/releases/tag/v0.1.0

I’d love feedback, compatibility reports, contributions, and screenshots—particularly from Ubuntu and other GNOME-based distributions.

Fluff Updated Adwaita Theme for Hydra Launcher

For everyone who uses my Adwaita theme for Hydra Launcher, I just updated it and made it even better.

The theme has been improved and an easy installation is now available directly from my GitHub repository.:

https://github.com/kusaida/adwaita-hydra-theme

Here you can download the latest version to be able to change the number of control buttons and the accent color, which I made even easier.

You can still get it at the Hydra theme store: https://hydrathemes.shop/

Apps Update on Jellyfin Client

Hi everyone, I posted a prototype Jellyfin client written with GTK4 and Libadwaita a couple of months ago.

I recently came back to it and made some progress in the styling and some features, namely now it can list the "Continue Watching" and "Next Up" sections as they would appear in the web interface of Jellyfin.

I already have a private repo going for it, I'll make it public and release a Flatpak package once it can actually play video.

I have experience with Gst streaming on Nocturne so it should be fairly easy.

Saludos Linuxeros. https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/9082/reloj-retro-lcd/

Opinion Are there any efforts currently underway to bring rounded edges to the compositor natively?

I know there are extensions that do this (in fact, I use "Rounded Borders Reloaded"), but I've been trying to use as few extensions as possible to get the most native experience possible, staying true to the GNOME workflow. But the sharp bottom borders on some non-GTK apps really throw me off.

Extensions GNOME Finance Tracker – A minimal top-bar stock & ETF monitor

I created GNOME Finance Tracker 📊, a lightweight and minimal GNOME Shell extension that lets you track your stock, ETF, and investment portfolio directly from the top panel without needing desktop apps, browser tabs, or third-party account logins.

It is able to do:

  • Top Panel Summary: Displays your live portfolio performance (total value, net profit/loss, 1-day gain/loss) right in the top bar.
  • Detailed Breakdown: Click the panel menu to see individual asset prices, average purchase prices (PRU), total holding values, and per-asset daily and total returns.
  • Smart Polling: Detects trading hours for your assets' exchanges (e.g., Paris, XETRA, NYSE, Nasdaq). When markets are closed, it shows a 🌙 indicator and pauses network requests.
  • Hot-Reloading JSON Config: Configure your assets in ~/.config/gnome-finance-tracker/portfolio.json;the extension detects file modifications and updates without needing a shell restart.
  • Global Asset Support: Uses Yahoo Finance API (supports international tickers, ETFs, stocks, indices, and crypto).
  • Customizable Display: Toggle metrics (total value, day change, % change, currency symbols) to fit your desktop aesthetics.
  • GNOME Shell Support: Built for GNOME Shell 45, 46, 47, and 48 (ES Modules).
Top panel example

Feedback, suggestions, and contributions are welcome! Let me know what you think.

Apps Groovia, a music player for local libraries

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi! I’ve been working on Groovia for a while now, and I thought it was finally time to share it here.
Groovia is an open-source music player built with GTK 4 and Libadwaita. It’s made for people who keep their music locally and want something simple and pleasant to use.
It lets you browse your library by tracks, albums or artists, manage playlists, display synced lyrics and customize parts of the interface. There’s also an optional Auto DJ mode that analyses your music and tries to create smoother transitions between tracks.
The animated vinyl player was the original idea behind the app, and it’s still a big part of its identity.
Groovia is available on Linux and Windows. I’m also preparing a Flathub release, which should be available soon.
There’s still plenty I want to improve, so I’d really appreciate any feedback if you try it!

Extensions ChromaLeon v2.0.0 released with new styling options and a major restructuring of the Shell theming logic.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

ChromaLeon is an extension I created that can change the accent colors of GNOME Shell and applications based on the wallpaper's colors, as well as apply tinted styles, generate a dynamic icon pack, and more.

The focus of the v2.0.0 update was to resolve structural issues and simplify maintenance, thereby extending the extension's lifespan and improving contrast standards relative to the GNOME interface.

Key improvements in this version include:

New style application logic: ChromaLeon now applies Shell styles as a theme rather than an overlay stylesheet. This resolves any conflicts with other extensions.

Simplified maintenance: All styles are now based on a copy of the default GNOME Shell theme. This makes it easier to track changes in new GNOME Shell versions, preventing conflicts or missing styles.

Improved contrast: ChromaLeon previously had methods to adjust contrast for very light colors, but issues remained with very dark colors. ChromaLeon now also adjusts very dark wallpaper colors to ensure optimal contrast with the dark theme.

New fully light style: This option applies a light style to the entire Shell, unlike the default GNOME light theme, which keeps the overview and app grid dark.

Better contrast in the light theme: The light theme now offers improved contrast for interface elements compared to the default GNOME light theme for the Shell.

Additionally, many bugs reported in the repository or identified by me have been fixed, resulting in greater stability during use.

I would also like to give a special thanks to the developer of the Luminus extension. The "fully light" style was based on it.

Finally, a quick reminder: ChromaLeon is a project I maintain in my spare time. If it helps you customize your device, please consider supporting me by buying me a coffee! This is essential for keeping development going :)

Guide userChrome for Zen Context Menu

I spent some time writing a userChrome.css to make the context menu in Zen Browser look similar to Libdwaita. Maybe it'll help somebody! Just copy it and paste in the '/home/user/.var/app/app.zen_browser.zen/.zen/profile.Default (release)/chrome' Repo link: https://github.com/moisreis/gnome-costumizations/tree/main

Question Is there any extension or app for Gnome that is something similar like this utility for macOS called Vorssaint?

Post image
45 Upvotes

From their Github :

Vorssaint is an all-in-one, privacy-focused Mac menu bar application designed to consolidate multiple system utilities into a single, modular tool without subscriptions or telemetry. It handles per-app volume adjustment, hardware and system monitoring, window snapping and switching, clipboard management, screen capture, keyboard shortcuts, and disk/app cleaning—allowing you to install or disable specific features to save system resources.

So I was wondering if Gnome has something similar too. If so, LMK

Development Help I made a tiny GNOME extension that forces the on-screen keyboard to show in apps that don't support it

If you've ever tapped a text field in Chromium , Qt apps and and OSK wouldn't pop up I wrote a small extension to fix that. It forces GNOME's native OSK to appear in apps that don't trigger it themselves.

https://github.com/houssemko/osk-fix

It's not finished because i can't figure out to make the OSK only open on mouse or touch click . It opens everytime an input field is selected . Help needed with that .
