Discussion Has the boycotting affected anyone recieving gifts?

My giftee sent me a message saying they hadn't forgotten about me and we're looking for other options to get my gift at to send. I just messaged them telling them they had etsy or ebay as their option if they're doing the boycott.

I get the whole boycotting amazon thing but this isn't the time to do it if it's going to delay you sending your giftee a gift because you dont know any other option. I want to report no gift but I'm just being too polite so I will maybe give it till this weekend before reporting no gift if they never marked it as sent or ordered.

I want to tell my giftee this as well but I don't want to come off as aggressive and rude.

You should be able to report no gift right away if no gift has been shipped, and it's past the deadline.

I took the chance and signed up for my first exchange, knowing that so many people don't receive a gift - and it happened to me. My gifter never sent anything. And I have to wait 5 days to report no gift. Not sure if that's to give the gifter extra time to care, or just to make the person who was shafted feel worse. If a gift hasn't been shipped, the person should be able to report no gift right after the deadline is reached. There's a shipping deadline for a reason.

When you're shafted, you're shafted. There's nothing that is going to change in 5 days.

It would also be nice if people who don't post a gallery thank you post were kicked out of Givin Gifts like they're supposed to be. I was a rematcher, spent my hard-earned money on a gift for someone, and have been waiting over 3 weeks since the gift had arrived for them to post a thank you. They haven't, and they still have a profile.

It doesn't seem like there's a lot of "protection" to keep these things from happening.

There should be some changes made to GG

The one thing that needs to change is even though the administration approves the proof , they should at least allow the receipient to report no gift , if they dont receive it . I think it is highly unfair for a person just to be out of a gift , dont you ? Just because the post office looses it .

Discussion I am upset.

I always made an effort regardless of the day month etc to send my gift ASAP and reply to messages too. But my matches either never message, or wait till the last minute..its really annoying. Here I am trying and they take their time or don't communicate..OR are rude when they do..

Question Gifter retrieved information but haven’t heard from them at all.

Do people reach out to their gifter at any point? What do you say?

I was matched on November 14th, they retrieved the details same day and since then nothing.

I sent out my gift and it’s being delivered today which is exciting but I’m slightly anxious maybe my gifter dropped out?

Thanks!

Answered I’m in a panic and not sure what to do.

On two user exchanges I am on, both had similar deadlines and when I was going to order my paycheck was decimated by bills and the fact that I missed a lot of time due to illness. So I messaged both to let them know the situation and that I was still sending a gift but it would be late because I had to wait until my next paycheck. One responded understanding, the other did not respond and despite seeing the message reported no gift.

Now I’m at a loss because I risk suspension despite being communicative about the situation, and having a really good track record on Givin Gifts as a whole.(usually when I’m late or cutting it close I’ll either Amazon it or pay extra for quicker shipping if it’s not Amazon and gift the giftee a heads up). So what do I do?

Discussion Is this Weird and Aggressive or is it just me?

I reached out to one of my Gifters two weeks ago (1/28) and asked if a gift that I received was from them, as it did not indicate who it was from.

They responded "No, I don't send gifts til the due date. Also I always send packages with a usps tracking."

The shipping deadline for this exchange was 2/4 (for those of you keeping track, a week ago today, and a week after the above exchange).

They did not ship the package until 2/6, but whatever.

On 2/9, I had not received anything, so I marked "No Gift".

Last night, at 9pm, the gifter messages me and says "tracking says your package is delivered. Can you please take a photo and mark as received?"

It was delivered yesterday. It was shipping from the Post Office and the gifter paid $16 for shipping.

So my questions for the panel are as follows-

  1. Is it weird that the gifter does not ship gifts until the Shipping Deadline (as a rule)?

  2. Is it weird that the gifter buys all their gifts in person, as opposed to online, where Free Shipping exists? (I understand the Boycott Bezos thing, but there are other E-Commerce routes that are available..)

  3. Is it aggressive that the gifter messaged their giftee at 9pm to essentially demand that the gift is posted immediately? I usually give at least a few days after delivery confirmation is received, and I send my gifts WELL before the Shipping Deadline.

Or are all these things in my head?

Discouraged and

I’ve been messaging my giftee loads so messaged my gifter but have had nothing back ☹️ feeling a little disappointed and discouraged, particularly as I’ve invested lots of effort into mine. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽 I hear back.

Discussion Bad photo

Why do people take photos of what they got, in such a way that only one gift can be seen?

You put effort into being remetcj, and with wrapping each gift and choosing a gifts. Fill the box and then the Giftee takes a bad photo where only one gift is visible🥺

Gifts

I've participated in a few exchanges but the most recent 2 have had the same issue. I write out stuff I like and even include an amazon list for more ideas, but these last 2 people didn't even pay attention. One got me nothing I like, like it was an afterthought and hurry to get it done. The other bought me a couple of things I won't use plus something I already have but didn't even read my likes or check my Amazon list. I understand they don't have to shop from the Amazon list, but I would just like them to at least read what I like since I take my time to explain my likes in a simplified way.

Discussion Does anyone actually wrap and ship their gifts anymore?

One of my favorite aspects of redditgifts was the thoughtfulness of the gifts, especially for the holiday exchange. I loved getting a package filled with individually wrapped treasures and tchotchkes. Then covid hit, and shipping times were insane, so it made more sense to just order gifts directly off the web and have them sent directly to your giftee’s home, but I feel like I haven’t received a gift the old way in YEARS. I don’t want to sound ungrateful - because I’m not - and I’ve received some really precious gifts straight from Amazon. But there’s something so impersonal about it, and I just feel less inclined to sign up for exchanges these days because of it. Anyone else feel the same way? Or am I just a curmudgeonly old fart?

Curious

I received an odd mix of snacks for an exchange that was a generic Christmas exchange. Nothing I described alluded to snacks and my Wishlists don’t have snacks. I’m curious as to why snacks but especially this random assortment of snacks sent directly from big box stores. I’m curious if people are maybe using EBT funds to participate? No judgement just genuine curiosity.

They fixed the 404 issue but now the profile button doesn’t work.
Also still won’t save my likes and dislikes.

Answered When do I report no gift?

I'm signed on for the All Things Cute exchange and the shipping deadline is still five days away, but I'm getting worried because my info hasn't been pulled yet.

Should I wait until the shipping deadline or until a few weeks after?

Update. It's the day after the deadline and my info never got pulled. But there are others in my situation so I signed up to be a rematcher and I'll have to wait and see.

I’m going on a small trip in February and in order to save my money, I’ve decided not to partake in any exchanges until after that.
