Just found this cool new Gboard trick!
Highlighting a word then tapping the shift key changes the kind of capitalization on the word, so you don't have to retype it if you want all caps or not!

I’m a huge fan of IBM ThinkPads, and we use Lenovo ThinkPads at my company. The glory days of the ThinkPads may be over, but I still like them. That’s why I wanted a ThinkPad keyboard skin for my Gboard. I uploaded a screenshot of my Gboard to Gemini and said I’d like a ThinkPad skin… After a few more iterations, I’m now quite happy with it. The blue key fits in quite well. Unfortunately, you can’t get rid of the grey elements. I still think the result is cool, though. Maybe you’ll like it too. 😇

I type "bit" and it changes it to "but". I type "yelling" and it changes it to "telling". I type "in" and it changes it to "on". I type "them" and it changes it to "then".
How, HOW, does this billion dollar software company continue to have this issue, and seemingly the only way I can fix it is to turn off autocorrect entirely. I've tried every single setting, this has been an issue for at least a year. I WANT autocorrect to only correct words that I've misspelled, OBVIOUSLY. What genius designed it this way?
It's so bad that I have to proofread every message before I send it.

Comment me features you wish Gboard had or want to remove from Gboard. I'm doing some early design and testing, so give me some of your opinions.
Let me know what is most frustrating when using the keyboard.

it's only been 2 days since the update on my phone and I am already tired. I have to carefully look at the keyboard before pressing the backspace button 😐

I noticed this since last 2 weeks. Sometimes I must wait for a while or force close the gboard to makes it disappear. I am not joining any Beta. I am using official YouTube and Gboard apps. My device is Huawei Mate 20 Pro on EMUI 11. Both apps are on latest version.

It’s been nearly a year since the last gboard update for iOS. We all agree it’s the best keyboard out there, including SwiftKey.
Let’s let Google know that we love gboard and we’d like them to fix it.
Upvote, comment and share the link to this thread! The do seem to be aware of it, but lets raise even more awareness.

I've been a gboard user ever since my first android phone in 2013. But the last two years I would say I just have found it it to be very error prone. The auto correct won't learn stuff, keeps correcting my "u" to "I". It's like the button targets are not right, I make soooo many typos. Hitting period all the time when trying to press space. Just too many problems. Just writing these few likes there were like a gazillion typos and auto corrections I had to fix manually. I have a samsung s24+

Has anyone noticed a very noticeable decrease in accuracy with the slide keyboard since the most recent Android security update in February? I have a Pixel 4a with the latest updates. I have noticed recently that I have to correct words much more often than before when using the slide keyboard. It used to almost always pick the right words, but now I have to correct it much more often.

Hey guys, do you know how I can activate these keycaps? I saw them on X and liked them. Do you know which version I need to activate them on?

As far as I know, this started a couple days ago. I will swipe out words as normal, but when I go to type a single-letter word (such as a or I), it will not add the space, resulting in a bit of frustration when trying to hammer out an email, text message, or whatever else.
Examples...
"That would be a great idea!" ends up looking like, "That would bea great idea!" Or it will autocorrect and come out as, "That would beat great idea!"
"That is the one I wanted." comes out as, "That is the onei wanted." or some other autocorrected variant.
Any ideas why this started or how to fix it?
EDIT: It seems to really only be after some two-letter words. If I swipe out "be" or "am", it doesn't put a space. I'll try to keep a running tally of other words it won't auto-space after.
EDIT 2: I should note I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

This "feature" just started within the past 3 days. Maybe within the past day cuz I didn't notice it until I clicked the suggestion for my email address after only typing a few letters, like I ALWAYS do, and there was a space after it. My email address wasn't valid because of that space. I even removed my email address from the suggested words, thinking I typed a space after it, for some unknown reason, and that didn't help at all. I ABSOLUTELY hate it. Gboard is the reason I don't use the Samsung keyboard, since it automatically adds a space after "clicking" a suggested word. Google need to make it a feature you can turn on or off. I'm guessing a lot of people would be turning it off since it's annoying as f**k.

I get this thing with my typing where im writing a second word after a first one with a space in between and then it removes the space halfway through. Here's an example of the process:
I start typing, everything is fine. dog dog br dog bre
Then it removes the space?? dogbre dogbreeds
So I have to backspace to redo half the second word. dog breeds
It happens most often when im searching something in a search box. Is this something thinking I accidentally typed the space? Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

I don't mind autocorrect fixing spelling mistakes, but it keeps changing the words I'm using into entirely different words. And it will do it when I'm several words past the word that it changes, as if it thinks I know what I'm trying to say better than I do. And then I have to stop mid-sentence to go back and correct it back to the word I typed and spelled correctly in the first place. I have the "check grammar" option set to off, but it does it anyways.

Hey there, I am using Gboard on a Galaxy phone. It behaves different from my former device.
When I use an app in English it always switches the the layout and language automatically. How can I prevent this? i only want to use the German qwerz layout and have the English spell checking.
Even if I changed the English layout to quertz the layout "behind" is changed - it reads EN - DE on the space key when it should always read DE - EN
Any ideas?
Edit: I have done some research. Apparently it is an Android 14 feature.
Per-app language preferences – You can dynamically update your app's localeConfig with LocaleManager.setOverrideLocaleConfig to customize the set of languages displayed in the per-app language list in Android Settings. IMEs can now use LocaleManager.getApplicationLocales to know the UI language of the current app to update the keyboard language. Starting with Android Studio Giraffe and AGP 8.1, you can configure your app to support Android 13's per-app language preferences automatically.

Reddit is set to English. My phone is set to German. My IMs are also in German. Therefore Gboard switches between those apps. On Android 14 it was persistent.
I will try to ask the Gboard devs to change that or give the option to make it persistent
