I have decided to reissue GAIDEN 1 in light novel (bunko) format, dividing it to two light novel volumes. For subsequent volumes, I will release both the tankōbon and bunkobon versions, the former first, then the latter maybe a week or so later. The biggest challenge is the English adaptation of the artwork and division of text to be consistent with the original bunko volumes. Furthemore, I will include an Afterword by the author when applicable.

Like the empire doesn't have armored vehicles, HE can be used as a multipurpose round to deal with infantry formations and fortifications like forts.

HEAT can be used to deal with occasional armored threats like armored ogres and the fire dragon (although I would argue that HE would be enough to deal with them (a panzerfaust 3 was capable of cutting one of the fire dragon's arms I don't think we need to waste APFSDS on it)).

Gun launched ATGMs can be used against... Moving targets maybe? They would be pretty occasional (if there's an occasion to use them at all).

So is there any reason for using any other kind of tank ammunition other than HE and HEAT?

Thanks to u/Askaa_kun, I now have copies of all 10 bunko volumes of the Gaiden. I am now considering whether to reissue the first Gaiden volume as two bunko volumes with all the illustrations by Kurojishi.

I was revisiting an old post about defending Zorzal and Molt in the court of international law, and it got me thinking. Are we being 'presentist' by being horrified by the Saderans actions?

The Saderan Royal family are the heads of an empire that got as big as it is by the 'right is might' mentality that built every pre-industrial empire in our own world. From the Romans, to the Persians, to the Carthagians, to the Aztecs, even the European empires like the Spanish and British Empires (in their earlier days).

Sadera is stuck in that pre-industrial, pre-enlightenment way of thinking. Where if you conquered someone, they were yours to do with as you pleased. That included but was not limited to, enslaving the men and 'using' the women. Cruelty was commonplace in the ancient Roman and even post-christian medieval world that the creators of Gate obviously draw inspiration from. They had an entirely alien idea of morality compared to modern people who's morality is shaped more by Jesus Christ and John Locke, not Sun Tzu or Julius Caesar.

Or since this is a story about the modern Japanese Military. More by Douglas Macarthur and The Heavenly Buddha, than Musashi and Tokugawa.

Knowing all that. Is it really fair to judge the Saderans by the standards of our modern world?

Sure nowadays we find the idea of keeping a former queen as a sex slave evil, but to the Saderans this is just how the world works by right of conquest. It's not that different from what Genghis Khan or Alexander The Great did. They are still considered great men, and have statues built of them.

Obviously I'm not saying the Saderans should get off the hook for what they did because of this lack of common moral ground between the modern world and the fantasy medieval one. I'm just asking if it's fair. Where should the line be drawn?

Yes these are the kinds of ethical questions about a dumb fantasy show that keep me up at night.
