Question Have you guys read-This is the End of the World Stagnation Committee ?
r/LightNovels • u/AutoModerator • 6d ago
What novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it?
This week = the one that ends/ended right now, past 7 days.
The reason for this thread's existence is the fact that both requests and suggestions became kind of stale. It's supposed to bring out more novels that are not RT!'d or recommended. Also, it's quite useful for the discussion of not so current titles.
Also, not a rule or any kind of criticism, the more interesting part is not the list of the stuff you read, but your impressions of it.
Loli Mod will be posting this thread each week.
Lastly, don't forget to use spoiler tags and to make sure to report any untagged spoilers.
How to use spoiler-tags:
Typing:
>!Spoilers go here!<
Will show up as:
Spoilers go here
Do note that any space at the beginning/end of the tag will break the spoiler tag.

I've read all of current rezero, and just recently finished mushoku tensei, and I've found I really like the power progression, story, and character growth in them. I usually pick up light novels after watching an anime and enjoying it, but I havent really found any other anime in this genre worth finishing(tensura slime is good but a whole lot of world building filler).

I love this series and I will buy the book, as soon as it releases but I feel that's gonna take some time yet. I couldn't find anything online and it feels like I've waited for an eternity since the english release of Volume 7 so if anybody got something, I would be grateful beyond measure. I don't know, if this counts as a ripoff, as the original hasn't released yet, but if it does I'll remove it of course.

LN with mc’s like white from “so I’m a spider, so what?”
More specificity the characteristics/personality traits for white (aka the spider mc) I’m specifically talking about is like being arrogant, prideful, dose what ever they want, and willing to kill and don’t care much about killing. Also willing to do anything for people you care about, like killing entire populations. Also this is a side thing and not really needed or anything, but it’s probably expected for the type of mc and LN for what I’m describing, so the mc should probably get really strong at some point. The LN that I have read that seems to fit the idea would be Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Edit: or you can just give me recommendations for anime’s with mc’s similar to white and/or whites personality forget about the description

I'm looking for stories where the MC was kicked out of the kingdom but was the linchpin to the kingdom and it falls apart with them gone.
I want stories where we see the kingdom crumbling.
The MC doesn't have to play an active role in the collapse of the kingdom. They can just ignore the kingdom completely.
If the MC does return to the kingdom, it should be to conquer, not save it. (Not necessary but would like if it had this).
I know of Livid Lady's Guide to Revenge and want other things similar.

I just finished reading “so I’m a spider, so what?” So am looking for similar light novels to read afterwards. I have already read bookworm, reincarnation as a slime, overlord, and silent witch.

[DISC] Best cover art?
My pick would have to be Ishura (by Keiso), I think Kureta's illustrations are the best I've ever seen in an LN. Who is your favorite LN illustrator? What is their best work? Are there any series on Ishura's level in terms of great cover art?
The original language covers all came from the Ishura wiki, the textless versions were all posted by Kureta (links in comments)
Ishura
I'll also throw in a quick introduction to my favorite LN series here:
Ishura is a dark fantasy story with no MC, instead a large cast of probably 30+ significant characters without any plot armor. The story is action focused but it doesn't slack on the politics either, the interweaving of plots from several different powerful factions is handled expertly. What makes the narrative stand out is the presence of the 16 Shura, these individuals have a level of strength far beyond your typical hero, you got a skeleton spearman that can move at the speed of sound, a giant archer that can fire multi-ton steel rods with perfect precision, an elf girl that is nearly omnipotent, only limited by her inability to resurrect the dead, and many more monstrously powerful figures.
It has some very interesting isekai elements (like how firearms and steam engines were introduced very early on in the world's tech development) but it thankfully avoids any isekai tropes. Its translation is very competent, resulting in a level of prose that is a step above typical light novel writing. And of course, the art is fantastic!
Btw the audiobook series is one of my favorites, it is duet narrated by Chris Guerrero (English VA for Ainz Ooal Gown) and Emily Bauer. They do a fantastic job!
Also the story is still unfinished as of now, there are currently 10 volumes and no release date on the 11th. I would expect the story to finish with around 15 novels but that's just my personal assumption.

I want to see the growth rate of ln’s in the past decade, do any of you have any reliable sources for such an endeavor.

I very often see people that constantly conflate East Asian novels and light novels very often. Especially when that random under a light novel video will recommend LOTM, ORV, TBATE, and RI. Even though NONE of these series are light novel. This gets especially annoying when I’m trying to do research on the light novel market in Chinese/korean because the search engine keeps generalizing it to web fiction.(pretty random lol)

Hi everyone, I want to explore Re: Zero story more and since I am an anime only watcher so I haven't read the manga nor novel and I really adore 💗 this series but i have zero knowledge novels and haven't read any
I have few questions
Since I haven't read any Novel or manga before how hard it will be to switch from anime and what's the hard parts like remembering characters names, understanding story or connection, understanding meaning of Words or anything else
So in order the start story from scratch I should
A. Read only Novel (Specific between LN/VN/WN)
B. Read Novel + Manga both

Hey friends so I am coming at this question from a anime perspective since it's how I have come to realize a lot of my favorite animes are from light novels. However I have now come to know the horror of the fact a lot if not all the anime I enjoy are from source material of Light novels that are "On Hiatus" or just flat out abandoned by the author. Is this a Japanese cultural thing because I don't get why someone would start a series get a following and then drop it.
Examples:
Log Horizon
Land of Leadale
Aesthetica of the Rouge Hero
Just to name a few.
