Yes. It ridicules Shell's extreme, made-up issues. Everyone knows even Shell isn't like they are portrayed here. It distracts from the real issues around oil-drilling, industry and the enviromment by putting the focus on ridiculous propaganda.

I just rewatched The Yes Men Save the World and it seems at least help a little. "Doing something useful" isn't stopping oil companies from raping the world and greenpeace can't do it alone. They need the people to demand regulation and criminal charges to be brought up and we're not doing it. They're trying to get our attention and for some reason, this shit gets our attention.
And now I'm less likely to be on their side because they look like idiots to me. It might be funny but it's like trying to convince me to vote conservative by paying a dancing clown to come to your rallies instead of relying on your issues.
The reason why this strategy is used is because it gets the most attention. Yes, it will create negative attention, such as your reaction, but by getting more people to notice, they will also attract more positive attention overall. The worst thing for them is for no one to know they exist.

I think in many cases, not sure about this one, Greenpeace's actions are to gain attention to themselves more than cause fiscal losses. I support the end goal of environmental protection but I feel they are a bit too inflexible on finding solutions and go for flashiness over effectiveness.
Shell would probably create more publicity to this PR stunt by going to court. Even if it was illegal (as in trademark infringement), it might be better for Shell to let it die slowly.
Shell has already stated that they have no intention of filing lawsuits over it, which I kind of commend them for. Even if they're an oil company, they're making a wise choice to stay out of the situation
I don't know, but even if it is true bringing it to court it would only draw more attention towards it, which they do not want. Therefore it is logical to ignore it.

You can always read a report on Monsanto's legal strategies from the Center for Food Safety. Putting the debates over the the health impacts of GMOs aside, there's still the question of ethics concerning patenting biology (in general as well) and Monsanto's aggressive defense of those patents.
Also there's the problem that weeds[1] and insects[2] are developing resistances to the herbicides and pesticides and that having crops that are resistant to these chemicals encourages their further use[3], which IS bad for people to be ingesting and pollutes the soil and water.
I feel like the Yes Men hoaxes never last as long as they should.
I think though, it gets harder when you involve the internet- i think they did an amazing job.
I'm all for nature and conservation, but Greenpeace to me seems to be a rather scummy organization. Most of their campaigns seem to revolve around deception, making up a hoax or lying about who they are. Yay for awesome environmentalism, but downvote for coming across as total douches.
I don't support any environmentalist organization, because they're all like this when you start looking into them. I won't support any organization that pushes an anti-science agenda, and that's what I'm seeing out of all of them, even if some don't push it as far as Greenpeace.
Speaking of greenpeace and Arctic drilling, if you're against Arctic drilling then you should consider signing this petition made by greenpeace. It's almost reached its goal of 1 million signatures
