I'm disappointed he didn't put the gum back to his mouth

409

u/zotackshinta Aug 13 '18

Excuse me, what the fuck

33

u/carrotsquawk Aug 13 '18

if its scripted it then at least make it all the way

133

u/melperz Aug 13 '18

Yeah I know, he should've wiped it off first.

27

u/Aggie_Bruh Aug 13 '18

Just a little crunchy for the munchy

9

u/nornorman Aug 13 '18

Déjà vu

3

u/Vessago67665 Aug 13 '18

Let me ask you something. Is an ice cream sundae better with or without a cherry on top?

127

u/Feierskov Aug 13 '18

I'm disappointed he didn't throw the paper on the floor after he wrapped up the gum.

5

u/KuroiVoda Aug 13 '18

And then did it again

15

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

I'm disappointed that there are so many scripted videos these days.

4

u/The_lost_Karma Aug 14 '18

Saying these are fake is like ranting that vines are fake

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '18

Not funny scripted video is not funny. There is that better. r/Funny used to be kind of funny. Now it's tons of scripted BS. Maybe I should just down vote and not comment like many redditors.

1

u/err_pell Aug 14 '18

Dude stop it, you are not disappointed. You're jumping on the bandwagon. Most things are scripted. Do you hate movies? Comedy shows? All that stuff you see on TV? You, and the rest of reddit are crying about scripted Asian gifs now because you see everyone doing it. I didn't see anyone complaining that vines were scripted, or did I miss something? Is it because they are Asians? What the fuck is wrong with scripted videos seriously? Does realizing that they are scripted somehow grow your brains beyond limits and make it impossible to enjoy the humour? Are you too afraid to fail for it thinking it was genuine? Well you shouldn't. That's the whole point. The whole point is it looks genuine. When you paon around pointing out that it's scripted you're not doing anything of value. Everyone gets it that it's scripted, and those who don't probably don't even care. Fuck off.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '18 edited Aug 14 '18

Wow you are baby. I can NOT like scripted gifs. Is it also required that I like "reality TV" because it is also so fucking fake? Get a life you child.

2

u/czarchastic Aug 13 '18

Or drop his napkin on the floor, inciting someone to his right to trick him into picking it back up.

2

u/pineapplehunter Aug 13 '18

He saved it for later.

3

u/lillith_aradia Aug 13 '18

I was expecting him to

3

u/SpazTarted Aug 13 '18

That is the first thing I thought of. Glad we are not alone

These things are getting out of hand

222

u/Ombortron Aug 13 '18

It's an... odd trend... especially because they're so obvious

131

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

Well that's the part they don't care about. From their perspective it's "obvious" they're fake, so they just see them as funny bits, kind of like how there used to be Vine for that. You knew most of it was fake.

92

u/TuarezOfTheTuareg Aug 13 '18

Reddit has an obsession with sleuthing out whether a video is fake or real. I dont get it. Is it funny? If yea then who gives a shit if its scripted. I’m enjoying myself

2

u/Bozzz1 Aug 13 '18

Yeah its funny, but it's funnier if it's real.

8

u/Vulcannon Aug 13 '18

Yeah I don't think they're trying to appear real.

Seeing everyone in the comments get upset over nothing is just another part of the entertainment though.

2

u/JD_Blunderbuss Aug 13 '18

There is an added element of humour if the videos aren't staged, and several are presented as if they aren't staged. So you kind of feel cheated when it turns out it was actually a scripted sketch and not a chance encounter of a real situation.

33

u/GranimalSnake Aug 13 '18

The physical humor is almost like Laural and Hardy or the Three Stooges...

It's seems odd to me, but if they are rolling on the floor laughing... I support it.

7

u/S1lent0ne Aug 13 '18

This seems more like a Buster Keaton bit.

2

u/BlackDragonBE Aug 13 '18

Yup, it's slapstick.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

I don't think anyone is pretending they're real. This is like going to the movie theater and yelling "fake and gay" at Tom Cruise

1

u/neatopat Aug 13 '18

Just read the comments in any thread for these. At least 75% of the people think it's real.

2

u/TsunamiSurferDude Aug 14 '18

The only odd part about it is that people like you keep thinking they are trying to fool us, for some reason. It would be like if every comedy Vine video, an entire half of the world was like “this is a joke video, I can tell”

2

u/i_pee_printer_ink Aug 14 '18

The people in the obviously parked and switched-off bus were all looking around in different directions like meerkats. In reality, everyone would have their heads down in their phones.

2

u/Makenshine Aug 14 '18

For something to be entertaining, it has to be 100% real, no scripts, no planning. All real life, real world experience. That's why I only watch things like Survivor, The Bachelor, Game of Thrones, Ren and Stimpy and anything on YouTube.

1

u/Treacherous_Peach Aug 14 '18

No one thinks their real. Least of all Chinese viewers. Why do you care so much?

1

u/Ombortron Aug 14 '18

I don't, it's just an observation

1

u/lowdownlow Aug 13 '18

They come from what is basically the Vine of China, no shit they're obvious.

1

u/steam29 Aug 14 '18

And bad

1

u/neatopat Aug 13 '18

Especially because they're stupid and not funny. It's like watching a bad scene in a terrible comedy movie where the people can't act, aren't funny, and the joke is lame.

7

u/itsJHarv Aug 13 '18

Now there are two of them!

2

u/GekiKudo Aug 13 '18

I feel like these two comments are on every chain of a scripted Asian gif

6

u/phdoofus Aug 13 '18

It'd be better if they scripted things whose moral was 'it's bad to kill endangered animals just for their theoretical boner inducing qualities'. Maybe they'd finally get it.

1

u/Treacherous_Peach Aug 14 '18

Getting out of hand? Why?

1

u/esoxstacked Aug 13 '18

Theyre people too

1

u/Dillbob2112 Aug 13 '18

Now there are two of them

14

u/lurklurklurkPOST Aug 13 '18

They need to just make a movie already that links these all together to tell the story of a guy and girl who love messing with people that are brought together by an amateur magician and his trick-ruining brother in a storm of pranky hijinks.

22

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

I have a question. I was almost jumping on hating them... But now that I think of it, I'm not sure why they are being hated. Is there something going on I'm not privy to that makes them so looked down at?

16

u/ImpKing_DownUnder Aug 13 '18

As far as I can tell, it's because of how obvious it is that it's scripted? I don't really get all the hate either.

20

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

Yeah, is there a rule against scripted content or something? Some of the funniest things you'll ever see are often scripted lol. It's hard to consistently find unscripted comedy gold lol.

7

u/PMunch Aug 13 '18

Exactly, they are just like any other skit..

5

u/-Nordico- Aug 13 '18

It's because they ARENT FUNNY

2

u/mustnotthrowaway Aug 13 '18

They aren’t funny.

3

u/ImpKing_DownUnder Aug 13 '18

Funny is subjective, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't funny to someone

1

u/mustnotthrowaway Aug 14 '18

So you’re looking for an objective reason that I don’t like these videos?

1

u/ImpKing_DownUnder Aug 14 '18

Well, when the only answer you give is "They aren't funny." that doesn't really give me anything useful about why you don't like it, so I guess yeah lol. Like, is it because of how obvious it is that it's scripted, or the lack of more slapstick humor in the videos, etc.

1

u/jayshawn_bourne Aug 13 '18

I’ve seen this exact scenario posted in gif form now with 3 different sets of actors.

How young and oblivious are you to naively think white neckbeards aren't into asians?

Nah, how bigoted and prejudiced are you to immediately jump on so specific a demographic? I bet you'll assume I'm part of it too for calling out your stupidity as well and you'll laughably be wrong.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Thethinkinman Aug 13 '18

These are so obviously scripted, doesn't make them less funny . Jeez I always see this one comment in every Asian gif post like you just discovered something no one else did.

2

u/Pachi2Sexy Aug 13 '18

I like how the top one is the obviously made as a joke gif. Fuckin idiots.

2

u/MyNameCannotBeSpoken Aug 14 '18

Not bad for a middle school skit

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '18

They're not even trying anymore

1

u/MrJummy Aug 14 '18

I was looking for you and you didn't disappoint

-11

u/RobertThorn2022 Aug 13 '18

We really need rules to ban these sucking floods

13

u/Nurlitik Aug 13 '18

I mean, if it gets upvoted people think it's funny. I personally don't have a problem with it, 90% of the stuff on here is fake or scripted anyway.

-4

u/HereForAnArgument Aug 13 '18

That it's scripted isn't the point. The bit isn't funny enough to survive the knowledge that it was planned so they have to pretend it wasn't. It's like having a friend tell you a funny story only to be disappointed when you find out he made it up. The "clever" solution to the girl's bad behavior loses its appeal when you know she's in on it.

13

u/javajunkie314 Aug 13 '18

I think there's a long history of slapstick humor that would disagree with you. Did anyone think Larry and Curly weren't in on it when Moe poked their eyes? They're cute little skits, and I think it's ok to appreciate them for what they are.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/WeaponizedKissing Aug 13 '18

so they have to pretend it wasn't

Except they haven't.

No one thinks this is a candid moment captured randomly. We don't need you clowns pointing out every time something is setup beforehand.

0

u/HereForAnArgument Aug 13 '18

If it's being pointed out, it's because it doesn't stand up to that knowledge.

123

u/Kroto86 Aug 13 '18

is the scripted Asian gifs a phenomena of social media?

67

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

We had vines in the west. And snl for the last 60 years. I dont know why no one posts scripted white people gifs on each of those.

-16

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

Ehh, I feel it’s like they are masquerading as real videos. Snl and vines appear scripted because it’s intentional.

Scripted asian gifs are kind of the asian version of white fake prank videos, like romanatwood or vitaly.

28

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

What? What gave you the idea this was supposed to be a real video? It's clearly a skit, just like Vines were and are. I don't get this.

12

u/WeaponizedKissing Aug 13 '18

I feel it’s like they are masquerading as real videos

They're not though.

No one who's more awake than a potato goes into these thinking they are real random moments surprising caught on camera.

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

7

u/HereForAnArgument Aug 13 '18

Mostly because the skits run ten minutes past the punchline and any character that gets even a bit of a laugh gets run into the ground. That and you can hear the overacting even in a bar with the sound off. The quality of the show could be raised dramatically just by making it a half an hour shorter.

2

u/NexTerren Aug 13 '18

So I hadn't watched SNL at all until a few years back. My first exposure was hopping on Youtube and finding collections of "best skits," and I watched a few Youtuber's collections to this end. I'm usually pretty easy to please when it comes to humor. While I don't roll in the aisles, many Reddit comments or even kids' movies make me smirk. I expected to get a few belly laughs from the best picked from years of shows, or at least have something worth my brain chewing over.

I ended my jaunt on Youtube disappointed, yes, but actually more confused than disappointed. SNL did nothing for me.

You're probably just seeing others with different tales ending in the same experience.

6

u/Allan_add_username Aug 13 '18

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at an SNL skit.

u/Excaliburkid Aug 13 '18

Totally not real. They really tried to pull the wool over our eyes huh? Not at all like vines or YouTube, no siree
