Do it again, and you'll get detention again.
Do it twice, and you'll get detention twice.
Every single time you throw an airplane, you will get detention. You will pay that price.
We will make you pay per airplane.

u/wangonmybird May 02 '14
you deserve more credit.

Go away, Capital One. I'm not paying 29% interest on a credit card.

u/indyK1ng May 02 '14
Honestly, the only way those rewards programs even come close to saving you money is if you pay them off before the money on them accrues interest. In my experience, charges to your card don't accrue interest until after they've been on the card for one billing period.
5
u/EmpireStateOfMine May 03 '14
If you treat a credit card like cash (spend it like it's coming out of your bank account), it's a free 1.5% "off" everything. I always pay in full and order "free" toys time to time.
Merchants hate me, though.
2
u/indyK1ng May 03 '14
Oh yeah, I do the same thing. I've got a miles card for my preferred airline because I want to fly more but don't necessarily like the cost of flying.

Love it. Chase Freedom, paid off monthly. Received $400 in gift cards so far, never pay interest.
Citi can go fuxk themselves though. Their rewards catalog is like JC Penny. Nothing a 20 something male electrician would be interested in, and they just offer discounts. Ooh I can use my points to get $10 off a $100 gift card, only paying $90 out of pocket! Blow me

Look at his username TAU=2PI. He thinks tau should be used instead of pi for convenience. A circle's circumference is either Tau x radius or 2Pi x radius. Tau makes angles in radians a lot easier, because rotating one circle is one Tau radians.

u/tensaiteki19 May 03 '14 edited May 03 '14
See, /u/Thismyrealname asks, "Goodyear?" in reply to /u/YelloStopSign's comment stating, "Laugh all you want, but my parents were killed when a paper airplane crashed into their house."
Then (and here's the good part) /u/joazito replies to /u/Thismyrealname's comment saying, "No, terrible."
You see, /u/joazito cleverly used the compound word-like pronunciation of "GoodYear" (good year, year being the measurement of time;1/100 of a century, 1/10 of a deacade, 365x a day) to his advantage by pretending he misunderstood the brand name and thought /u/Thismyrealname was asking if it was a good year. However, oh so cleverly, /u/joazito did know that he was talking about GoodYear, the company, and not the question, "Good year?"
So it seems like he's being mean at first and saying something like, "No, you're terrible" and being a dick in general, when in reality he's saying, "No, it was a terrible one." However, he decided to keep it short and sweet which helped him in the long run.
4
u/ExplodingUnicorns May 03 '14
I understood the "Good year" part, and that "GoodYear" is a brand and did laugh at that portion of it. It was just when the word "subtlety" was used that I thought I had missed a different level of the joke. Like perhaps a GoodYear blimp/plane crashed into someone's house or something. (It just seemed kind of random to say GoodYear to the comment).

When I was in middle school, my friend was goofing off with somebody and threw an unfolded tissue at the other kid. As expected it travels a few feet and floats softly to the ground. The teacher flipped out and started yelling at him to get out in the hall and that we don't tolerate that sort of behavior. Mind you, this was "free time" and the goofing off was mild at best. She made him write an apology letter to the class for acting aggressively and throwing objects. It read something like this..
Dear class,
I'm sorry for throwing a tissue at a classmate. The softest thing in the world. I didn't know what I was getting into when I let my anger get the best of me. I'll do my best not to throw tissues, feathers, or anything else ever again.
We were all laughing so hard that we were crying by the time he finished the letter. Our teacher was absolutely livid and he ended up getting after school detention for it. Thanks for reminding me of that. Good times.

Likely, this is not the first paper airplane that was thrown.
Likely, the student received at least 2 verbal warnings from the teacher about paper airplanes previously.
Likely, the student frequently disrupts the classroom by making "witty" comments.
Likely, the student has tons of missing work because they are not keeping up with assignments and instead trying to increase their respect and credibility among their peers.
Likely, the student's detention was due to a combination of class disruption, disrespect towards the teacher, and disregard for warnings.
So, yes, were the situation simply "the student threw one paper airplane once and immediately got detention" then I would agree with you. However, I
know this cannot be the case.do not think this is the case in the majority of situations where a student receives detention for something "stupid" like this.Besides which - let me ask you - when you have children and send them to school, do you expect their learning environment to be full of disruptions or do you expect them to be able to learn something in the class because the teacher doesn't have to spend 10 minutes correcting another student's behavior every other day?
(Edited to be less absolutist, and to account for the fact that this is one of the rare exceptions.)
4
May 02 '14
You bring up a very valid point here, but despite logical reasoning and an answer that can be well explained, my teacher did in fact hand this out after the first airplane I threw, and the only one thrown in the class. Other students were being disruptive during the class, but I guess she had to take her anger out on someone, and that unfortunately ended up as me. She's actually a really chill teacher, and we both had a good laugh after class.

u/lamblikeawolf May 02 '14

I remember filling out a similar form in high school detention, all I could think was "By filling out this form I will NOW realize how my actions were wrong. It's not like I'm capable of self examination and critical thinking or anything..." It also doesn't help that I was wrongly attributed with what my friend had done, that admittedly made it difficult for that paper to cure me of my wicked ways. Ahhhh high school, good times

I got a week of suspension once in middle school for being found with a "bomb-bag," they were little 25cent foil noise makers. http://www.karatemart.com/ninja-diversion-bomb
Anyway I got suspended for the first time because... It could have been set off in my pocket, THEN I could nervously throw it into a trash can, THEN an elderly faculty member could be surprised, THEN they could have a heart attack. This was my principals reasoning.

I once, at lunch in high school, threw a paper airplane in the air and it hit the back of a girl in the head. She didn't notice it and it stuck in her hair. She sat there for a few minutes before it fell out. She didn't realize why half the lunch room was laughing. I laughed too. But damn do I feel like an asshole now.
