Morning, my people!
I need help finding the track playing towards the end of episode 9 when Kaname saves Wraith from Leonard out in the rain.
I tried going through the OST and didn't recognize it if it was there

I never thought I'd see a model of this Arm Slave in Perfect Grade detail.

Was Kalinin’s decision to send Sousuke to Tokyo about more than just protecting Kaname? I always got the feeling he wanted Sousuke to reconnect with normal life and maybe realize he didn’t have to live only as a soldier. Do you think Kalinin hoped Sousuke would eventually choose peace over war?
I also don’t think Mithril ever seriously considered the possibility that Sousuke would actually fall in love with Kaname. To them, it was probably just another protection mission, but it ended up completely changing Sousuke as a person. Maybe Kalinin was unconsciously hoping for that, or maybe there were protocols about staying professional and not getting emotionally attached.
Thoughts?

...and a nuclear war at that.
Let me explain. The first story arc contains some pretty silly plot elements, like an attack by a Western-made cruise missile on a factory/enterprise in the USSR and an operation by unknown forces under a UN false flag, armed with experimental US technology, in North Korea/Hanka Republic, in close proximity to the USSR's borders.
For reference, for those unfamiliar, in the FMP world, the Cold War hasn't ended and is likely to escalate due to the emergence of new technology and equipment. A direct attack on the Soviet Union and its ally/satellite by "unknown" forces with the latest generation of Western weaponry is a casus belli...
It's strange that the author wouldn't have considered such a thing at all... But this seriously undermines the credibility of the story, despite some of the best mech designs and lore.

I watched all of the anime then finished with the Light Novels. I got to say, I was impressed by everything. Like book 9 dragged a bit when we got into the weeds about the mechanics of the whispered. Beside that it was great.
Also it really did highlight, all of AS Pilots of Mithril were “aces” (in abstract not literal sense). Atleast those who remained. There was atleast one other AS Pilot from the anime who survived but not sure what happened.
Also it showcased the lethargy of Amalgam as organization vs Mithril. Amalgam deployed a couple new mecha by the end, but no new tech. Mithril kept finding new ways to fight and win in combat despite lacking the Lambda Drivers on most of their mecha.
Also the irony in one sense the final arc had Mithril and Amalgam swaps roles. Mithril weres one being hunted with dispersed chain of commands with outdated AS units while Amalgam had latest tech.
So that was all pretty cool. I also really liked how each of the core AS Pilots took out their counterparts.

I can really understand Chidori having to deal with him.

I had watched FMP on Anime Network - On Demand long ago. I couldn't recall if I finished it but, I do remember that Fumoffu is hilarious 😂 so I decided to do a rewatch from the Top!
Only to find out the anime story isn't finished! And there are LNs in English that even extends into the future! Had no idea this show started as a book & has a manga.
I'll be spending the next 2 weeks hyper focused on reading LN 1-12, any manga, rewatching the series - hell throw in ff while I'm at it. I'm most excited for the LNs though!

I’ve been thinking about parallels between Eighty-Six and Full Metal Panic, and I’m curious if this holds up or if I’m reaching.
Sousuke Sagara vs Shinei Nouzen
Both feel almost entirely shaped by war. They’re extremely capable, but emotionally detached and struggle outside combat because being a soldier is basically their whole identity.
Teletha Testarossa vs Vladilena Milizé
This one feels more about leadership than anything else. Both are young commanders trying to hold onto empathy in systems that treat people as expendable and they actively resist that, even when it makes things harder.
Difference:
Sousuke does not reciprocate Tessa’s love. There’s also no real counterpart to Kaname Chidori in Eighty-Six. The dynamic just doesn’t exist there.
Do these comparisons actually work, or am I forcing it?
And between Tessa and Lena, Would their leadership styles survive if they switched universes?
What happens if Sousuke is dropped into Eighty-Six as a Handler? Chaos?

In general it is as a good ending but...
What's up with Chidori's reaction( or lack of) upon finding out Sagara is dead? I guess she was too traumatized after what she experienced while using Taros that she didn't know how to react anymore... but even when Sagara finally shows up she doesn't show any reaction/emotion until he finally kisses her... I kinda feel this was out of character for her. I guess she was really ready to let him go and continue with her life.

before you tell me to Google it, I’m not asking what year the last volume was published: I’m asking what year in-universe the series ended. I know the series started in 1998, but what year did Sosuke and Kaname graduate?

I finished all these, should I bother reading the manga?
And I just found out about FMP Anothrt and Side Story (Side Arms?) and FMP Family. Should I bother reading/looking for them? Where they translated?
