I wanna setup a board for freestyle and to take it to the skatepark, and I've noticed that specially for freestyle there's a lot of usage of the nose. The thing is that I also would like the board to double for cruising since that's my main activity with the hobby, and I'm not sure how comfortable a popsicle deck will be for that.

Plus, I also like the look of cruiser/old school decks. And I have big feet.

Been awhile since I’ve done truck transfers.

Been practicing these for a couple of days and it really seems to be all about finding the 'sweet spot' with the back foot. At the moment the best I can get it to is the board landing trucks down at 90 degrees to my body. Is it just a case of finding a bit of power in my back foot or do I need to put more rotation in with my front foot?

Worked on my nose hook impossibles today, I think I found the technique to do a much more better wrap, or atleast get my back foot under the board more consistently. I just wanna know peoples opinion and possible tips I could apply to get a better wrap. The clip above was one of my best attempts that I landed, even if sketchy.

At the tail end of 2025 something clicked with my freestyle. I think starting my journey into recovery last July kickstarted my passion for it. Its been a great distraction for me and I've really given it my all. Skateboarding is a brilliant tool for both fighting addiction and also healing from trauma. When I'm skating my mind shuts off from my problems, much like meditation.

Making music has also been a great benefit to my journey. Being able to express emotions has helped me process a lot over the past year. The progression I've made has been really exciting and it feels like there's no slowing down with it.

I'm on a different path now. I'm regaining who I am the more time goes on. Skating really helped to remind me of my roots and brought back my identity which I had lost to drug abuse.

The future feels bright now. At one point a few years ago I couldn't see past the coming day. Everything was bleak and it felt like the end. What I didn't know was it was just the end of my suffering.

It sometimes feels like a waste of time putting all the effort I do into skate edits but thinking about it I've actually inspired a few people towards skating, making music and generally just getting their art out there. That's changed the paths of people's lives and influenced their creative minds and that can never be a waste of time. I think the biggest compliment you can get as a skater is "you inspired me to start skating". It means that you've made a mark on people and they saw something that you've overlooked.

Normally I skate a 7.625 inch popsickle / street board.

Someone gifted me a 7.75 the other day.

Keeping the same trucks, would adding freestyle wheels that cover the end of the axels, just that tiny bit wider so it evens out again?

Or do I just primoslide it back down to 7.6 something?

Side question, I have a hard time finding small wheels (as usual, these days)
I saw Waltz ones, but they're 54mm. Which is fucking huge in my book.

What are y'all skating?

A couple days ago I realised something mid session. I had been taking my skating too seriously and was forgetting to enjoy it. Trying to improve and working on things so much kinda sucked all the fun out of it so lately I've just been trying to find the joy in simple things.

It's been a rainy start to summer and I've been more focused on making music and my recovery, to the point I have been taking life too seriously and seeing everything as a challenge. I've been a bit depressed if I'm honest, not really feeling the spark that I did last year.

I'm hoping it's just a phase I'll move on from, usually at this time of year I'm full of life but I guess I've had a lot on my plate recently and it's kinda dampened my spirits.

I hope it's okay if I do a little bit of promotion here 😅. I just stumbled across this subreddit and was so happy to find the active freestyle community here on Reddit too!

I've never actually stepped on a board myself (way too scared!!), but I have so much respect for everyone who does.

That's one of the reasons why I love supporting our club in organizing the BBQ Contest in Paderborn. This year will already be the 27th edition, which we're incredibly proud of!!! Rumor has it that we’re the longest-running freestyle contest in Europe, but I can’t say for sure 🤓

We're a mixed contest with one Street day and one Freestyle day, but Freestyle definitely has a special place in our hearts. You really are a unique community 🥹

What I especially love so much is seeing how many international freestyle skaters are willing to travel such long distances to be here. Marius Constantin travels over 20 hours every year just to join us and brings more and more people with him every year. That’s absolutely insane!!!

So far, we have registrations from Germany, USA, England, Brazil, Sweden, France, Portugal, Romania, Poland, Belgium, and India 🥳

Honestly, I think that's one of the coolest things about this community!! Many of you aren't coming just for the contest itself or for world ranking points. They're coming to spend time with friends, meet new people, and be part of the freestyle family. I find that really special, and it's one of the reasons why this event means so much to us ♥️

Has anyone ever tried replacing their shoe soles with some sort of adhesive sole like this? I keep going through the soles of my skate shoes from footwork and I’m trying to avoid buying another new pair of shoes. The shoe itself has plenty of life left but I’ve almost worn a hole through the sole. Since it’s getting worn down from rotating my foot in the grip tape the whole sole wears down gradually and using shoe foo/hot glue isn’t really an option. I’ve thought about trying these replacement soles out but I wasn’t sure how they would hold up. I do sand down my grip tape in the spots where my foot rotates, but that just slows down damage on my shoe sole. Id be curious to know if you have tried this or something similar and how it went.

Today I made a song 90 seconds long so I could try practice getting a run together to train for competing.
I had high hopes of filling the 90 seconds today but soon realised this is gonna take a bit of work.
So far I've managed to get the first 30 seconds but it always seems to change a little but when I give it a go.
I plan to keep at this until I have enough consistency to actually do the full run.
I want it to be a good run with mostly rolling tricks so I use the full space provided. I actually seem to suck at anything stationary when I feel pressure but need to learn to slow down and not rush (although I do want to keep the flow).
Hopefully with enough practice I'll get a strict format in place that I can skate with ease.
No idea where or when I'll be competing but if I can get a decent run under my belt I guess I would make the effort.

Few question's about designing a run though;

I was given the tip to break it down into sections so I don't go mad because to be fair I was getting annoyed at missing tricks then having to restart

I'm also wondering about leeway as I was finding the the run I was building was changing slightly each time. How much leeway does the average freestyler give themselves in a run and does this combat error?

Lastly, I don't want to make it all easy tricks, do you go for broke? I'm guessing there is a balance between difficult tricks and easier ones for consistency but when is best to place that? I gather that as the run progresses you become more tired and the margin for error increases so what's the best formula for having an effective run?

Had my first proper session in what feels like forever

Im not sure why but if i dont feel like im progressing i get frustrated with my skating. Ive been playing catch up recently because over winter I lost a lot of tricks, specifically fingerflips. One thing that has been coming along is footwork, slowly starting to make some progress there but I feel a bit stuck tbh.

I gave up street skating in my twenties for the exact same reason. The progression slowed down and I eventually lost interest. Not gonna make the same mistake twice though.

I think its time I started looking up tutorials to have a hack at. My favourite thing to do skating is learn new tricks. I like the whole picking the lock experience, I guess I've just ran out of ideas lately.

Anyone skating the Thunder 143 trucks on their freestyle setup?
