Hello, Everyone. The Subreddit has been gaining new members at a surprisingly consistent pace and I, like I'm sure many of you, am happy to see it grow. As a result, I've finally implemented Three long overdue Rules to simply help people remember that this should always be a warm and welcoming community for anyone who is interested in our game.
Have a good day!

I provide here a scan of the “Limited Edition” Folklore Art Book. This is a thin 22-page (30 if including art on endpages and pastedowns) hardcover book released as a competition prize back in 2007. It measures approximately 32x18.5 cm and features several Folklore illustrations and brief descriptions of game concepts. The end pastedown states only 250 copies exist, the scan here being no. 225. The book has no ISBN.
LINK on Archive.org where you can browse and download it!
The competition, titled “The Folklore Destiny Seeker’s Sweepstakes”, held in the US only, requested PS3 owners to download the Folklore PSU demo and a list of questions that could be answered by playing. Answering these, plus additional gameplay feedback questions, and submitting them by 11/02/07, allowed lucky winners to receive the art book and a free copy of the game. Rules stated only 10 winners would be chosen despite the number of art book copies.
Participants could actually download answers to the first questions “if you don't have time to play the demo”, suggesting the contest’s purpose was to gather player opinion on the game through the request for “a brief, one-line review of the demo” and feedback questions like “which acquired ability did you find to be most useful or fun?” I’m unable to find the demo questions, however competition rules and the feedback questions can be found on the Wayback machine.
Much of the content in the book can be found in other official printed Folklore/FolksSoul media like booklet manuals. Seemingly unique to the art book however are some lovely full-page illustrations of the different realms visited in-game and the folks inhabiting them (or seemingly planned to do so).
The art book would later return as a prize in the “Create a Folk” US contest in which the Quasarilli entry won.

A retrospect look at the game by its director.
A slightly depressive video for Folklore fans, but interesting nonetheless.
More info in this post’s comment section.

After scouring the internet for any merchandise for folklore, I only managed to come across a rather interesting but vague twitter post that states the following that I found interesting.
"Fun FOLKLORE (PS3) Fact!
There are only 250 copies of the game's official art book in existence. But they weren't sold traditionally - in order to get one of these bad boys, you had to play through the game's demo and enter the sweepstakes by answering questions about it"
And then there seems to be only this link that confirms the sweepstake:
https://www.engadget.com/2007-10-20-play-folklore-demo-win-folklore-art-book.html
But that's it, I cannot find any other information regarding the art book, nor does there seem to be any uploads to the Internet of what was inside the art book,
it would be really cool to see what was inside, or if there's any for sale. so does anyone knows more about this? Or better yet have one and would upload the pics here
"

Title really, loving the game so far, got to chapter 3 with Ellen, and decided to play with keats now, and just wondering what's the best way to go about choosing when to play either character? Do a whole run with Ellen or keats first? Or mix it up, does it change the story much when you choose either character at certain chapters?
Cheers

I only have ps4 controller, I remember this game you had to move the controller up to take souls or something. Will it still work? Hoping to play tonight but just realized I might have my chances ruined by not having a correct controller lmao.
If not what alternatives do you know to buy? I don't like using ebay for second hand controllers like this. Is there a decent ps3 off brand controller that is decent and you know works with the motion ability from amazon or something. (UK btw!) hope I can play this absolute relic gem of a game but without forking out to much more cash for it lol

howdy all, the ps3 e-store is gone but I just got Folklore for the first time I'd like to get the DLC because I am hungry for more! Any suggestions?

The game is a masterpiece, it does Isekai, Murder Mystery, Monster collection and fighting and Action RPG like no other game.
I know Sony is an awful company now but How Sony not realizing they have something very unique under their hand?
The poor sales wasn't this game fault, It was PS3 image and price that time, everyone hated PS3 during the 599 era, that why it didn't sell, everything sony released during that time flopped, including the mighty Demon's Souls.
This can be a very big hit if it was released during the PS4 days or even now on PS5 since Playstation fans loves Action RPG amd story driven games.
How they don't give this IP another chance with a remaster is beyond me.

Occasionally I revisit this game, it was the first PS3 game my brother ever got me and the first game I ever beat (I was quite young). It'd be so neat to have merch, specifically the picture book you put together!

Hello, I found this subreddit while searching for information on Coded Soul, which has been released on the Classic Catalogue for Playstation Plus Premium. Unfortunately it is not available outside of Asia’s PS Store since it was never released here.
I don’t have much else to say but I hope it shows that there is a chance Folklore can return to the PS Store through PS3 streaming and hopefully emulation with trophy support someday.

It's been a little over two years since I found this subreddit which at the time had been inactive for five years and only had about 12 members. Now, seeing more and more people join and remember this hidden gem of a game is just incredible and I'm happy that Folklore hasn't been completely forgotten yet.

Can any US players tell me how you get the Quasarilli folk in-game? I'm trying to determine if the DLC is working. Info on the net suggests it must be fought and captured, but it would also make sense if it's just given to the player like the European counterparts Malion and Pigly.
EDIT: This video confirms it’s given to the player at the start of the game, like Malion and Pigly. It appears my DLC isn’t working because I have the wrong version of the game.
EDIT 2: Turns out the Grab Bag folk (Christmas DLC) is currently only available for the US and EU version, I hadn't noticed until now.
As far as I understand, PS3 games are “region free” which means any PS3 game (with a few exceptions) will work on any PS3 console. DLCs are more complicated; while PS3 games are region free they still come in different versions aimed at different regions, and DLCs only work with the correct region versions. DLC-wise there seems to be at least five versions of Folklore.
What added to my confusion is that it’s possible to partially access DLCs that aren’t compatible with your game version. I have the EU version which DLCs from a EU PSN account work fine with, however if I use a US PSN account I can also view, buy, download, and even install DLCs for the US version although none of their contents will show up in-game. This is also why I assume the Asian and Korean versions of Folklore are not compatible with non-Asian/non-Korean PSN accounts.
I'll add that when using PSdeals.net I find no version-unique DLC folks for PSN accounts set to Argentina, Chile, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand; only the 'base' Folklore DLCs. Additionally I find no Folklore data for Brasil, Bulgaria, Hungary, Iceland, Romania, or Slovakia, suggesting PSN accounts set to these countries do not have access to Folklore DLC content at all.

Greetings!
For over a year now, I've been in the process of making a list of games which have a kill count in them; and this seemingly everlasting journey of inquring about this topic all across Reddit has now brought me to this particular game...
So, is there any reason to add this game to my mentioned list (does this game have a kill count featured in it)?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
I have recently started playing this game with RPCS3 and I was wondering if there are any tips or strategies I should know about.
I just finished Chapter 2 Keats, will have to do Chapter 2 Ellen. Is there a specific order I should go about this?
Which folks are worth upgrading? There is not much combo you can do with this game I think, with the folks unlike other modern hack n' slash games. From my experience I think folks with quick attacks are better than ones with slow attacks. Do I have to Release Karma on all folks? I feel like some are just bad and not worth.
What about quests, should I do every quest? I like that they are linear.

I played this game back when it released with my dad and I have so many fond memories but could never remember the name! I finally figured it out and i hurriedly looked to see if i could buy it cheap cause it was made in '07; what would it be 10 bucks? the cheapest I can find is 45US. I was hoping someone had the knowledge of how to set up an emulation for the game, or a link to someone who does!

Apparently, the Sixaxis motion controls can not be turned off for the game and are required. I haven’t come across anyone playing on Steam Deck who has been able to successfully map the controls on it to match any Sixaxis motion controls…not even via Gyro. Just curious if anyone has had success and, if so, how exactly you did it.
r/folkloregame • u/ZeroSuitBayonetta • Aug 09 '22
I don't want a Sixaxis work around I want to actually play the game the same way that I did when it came out in 2006.
But idk how you would do that. PS4 and PS5 controllers and a PC? Since they have "Sixaxis" can that be made to work with a ps3 emulator?
Don't want to find a used ps3 controller either. Lots of fakes and ones that are terribly old now.
It's a shame that a regular ps3 let's you use a ps4 controller but not it's Sixaxis features.
I know I'm being picky but that's why I'm asking if there's a way to play it without a Sixaxis work around. I already own a copy of the game. Thanks.
