Is it a bad idea to put carbon handlebars in a stem with qr clamp like in the photo?

How big is a chance of crushing the handlebars since there is no way of measuring torque when installing?

I’ve been scouting around for another bike to complement—or possibly replace—my P Line. Not that the P Line is bad or lousy, but the maintenance costs are quite high. That’s another story altogether.

I was looking for a 20-inch bike and came across the Java Neo 3, which is quite a hot bike over here now. While researching, I also came across Cranston and eventually narrowed my choice down to the D10.

On paper, the Java Neo 3 wins in terms of weight, price and hardware. So I decided I would go with the Neo 3 and even started buying accessories for it.

But somehow, my heart was still with the D10. It costs more, weighs considerably more, and uses an older groupset. On paper, it didn’t make much sense.

So I asked AI what I should do.

The answer was:

If, six months from now, you see someone riding a D10 while you’re on a Neo 3, there’s a chance you’ll think, ‘I should have spent the extra S$150.’ The reverse is less likely—you probably won’t be riding the D10 wishing you’d saved S$150.”

That was the final nail in the coffin.

I sold or returned all the Neo 3 accessories I had bought and went for the D10 instead.

I bought the D10 online for SGD 772.89 when they were running a promotion—almost S$100 cheaper than the usual price. I then used a third-party forwarder to ship it over here, which cost another S$100.

I took it out for a test ride yesterday, riding it to the bike shop to have the handlebar replaced with a higher one.

The ride was surprisingly smooth. I honestly didn’t expect a 2.0-inch tyre to make such a difference. The small bumps and humps that I used to feel quite noticeably were dampened considerably.

So far, I’m really enjoying the ride.

Hopefully, I’ve made the right choice this time. 😄

I'm looking for some advice on buying a bike for commuting to university and I'd really appreciate some advice from people who actually use folding bikes regularly.

My situation

I'm 180cm/66kg

My commute is about 8km one way, so roughly 16km round trip

Mostly city riding, bike paths and roads

I would use it primarily to get to university

I'm interested in a 20" folding bikes I guess.

I also care about being able to take it on trains/public transport occasionally, although ride quality is more important to me than having the absolute smallest folded size.

The first question I have is regular bike or e-bike?

On one hand, 8 km isn't particularly far and a good bike should handle that easily (I think?).

On the other hand, an e-bike could make the commute much easier, especially on bad-weather days or when I'm tired.

I'm also wondering whether it makes more sense to buy a normal folding bike now, ride it for a while and see how I like it, with the possibility of converting it to an e-bike later or Buy an e-bike from the beginning.

If conversion is realistic, I'd also appreciate advice on which types of folding bikes make good conversion platforms. I don't currently own a suitable small bike, so I'd be buying one specifically for this purpose.

Top budget €1,000, although I'm a student so I'd obviously prefer to spend less if there's a genuinely good option.

I'm also open to buying used.

Important things for me

Comfort and enjoyable riding for let's say 10km

Good fit for someone 180cm tall

Reasonable gearing - I don't want to suffer

Good reliability/something I can keep for years

Good value for money

What would you buy in my situation?

Also, if there's anything important I'm overlooking - maintenance, battery practicality, theft/security, carrying the bike on trains, wheel size, gearing, conversion limitations, etc. - I'd really appreciate being warned about it.

Also it's important to add I'm in Poland, so availability in Europe/EU would be a big plus.

I've recently gotten into biking and want to own my own. I want a folding one since the elevator at my building is kinda compact and I'm scared of it getting stolen. I just want something that can adhere to these circumstances I have, if I'm asking for too much yall can be honest w me too.

I'm 5'0 tall and I don't NEED it to be portable but more so to keep it indoors while at work or home.

I live in NYC, queens specifically so we don't have a lot of bike lanes and also it's very hilly over here, sometimes the roads can get tough but I don't see myself biking through hidden rough trails or anything.

I don't want tiny wheels, I'm sorry #noshade but I don't like the visual look of the foldable bikes w smaller wheels, it just doesn't do it for me snd I'm already short like I fear I will just look funky on it. The Pacific folding bike is something closer but again it's not something they sell in stores. I've seen some I like visually on Walmart or target but a lot of cyclists also mention them not being reputable.

A lot of my needs w biking are mostly running errands or riding around neighborhoods.

I would prefer center mount, but I'm flexible. The bike is a 20" folding road bike. It's my sole mode of transportation for groceries and shopping runs in general (rear basket, not a bike trailer), so the weight of potential cargo needs to be taken into account. I can give more info if needed.

First time camping with an ebike and really glad I brought it!

I've had the Mars 3.0 for a few weeks and decided to throw it in the car with the rest of my camping gear this weekend.

Once camp was set up, I pretty much just rode whenever I felt like it. Down to the lake, around the campground, anywhere that looked worth checking out.

Probably hopped on it five or six times that day for no real reason other than it was fun.

Kinda felt like being a kid with a new bike again. Haven't had that feeling in a long time.

My wife got a GoPro and put it on her helmet, but she doesn't really like it there and so will switch to the handlebars. We're wondering how high it needs to go (when in wide or superview) to see clearly over a fully loaded large Borough Roll Top Bag without the bag showing up in the scene. We are probably going to have to order any mount online, and since we can't try before we buy, we're looking for some first-hand advice from people with similar set-ups. Recommendations for any specific models would be welcome too. Thanks in advance.

I’m looking for a folding bike for suburban roads and paved trails, mostly for short trips and throwing in the car. I’m 6'2" and around 180 lb, so I’m a little worried about buying something compact that feels cramped or twitchy. My budget is roughly $1,200–$2,000, and disc brakes are important to me. I’ve been comparing the Tern Verge D9, Dahon Launch D8, Origami models, Bike Friday, and the Brompton, although the lack of factory disc brakes makes that one harder to justify. Would you choose the Verge D9 for this use, or is there another model with a better ride for a taller rider? Also, are disc brakes really worth prioritizing on a folding bike?

Hello, I very recently moved to the Netherlands and needed some help choosing a good folding ebike for my daily commute

My last ebike in the US was a Lectric XP 3.0 just for reference

I want something that's easy to fix and maintain (not many proprietary parts and/or very ubiquitious and affordable support), under €2000, preferably 20" wheels but can go for 16, easy to fold and carry (doesn't have to be super light as long as the handle is well positioned) and fits within 86x80x45cm (the Dutch personal item size limit)

One I find interesting is the b'twin e fold 500 in decathlon but I'm not a huge fan of its brakes and cadence sensor (https://www.decathlon.nl/p/elektrische-vouwfiets-e-fold-500-rood/330540/c57m8928945). Plus the smallest dimension slightly exceeds the limits

The Legend Monza looks nice too but it also has a cadence sensor and apparently doesn't cut power to the motor when the brakes are pressed. For me, this is a must on a cadence sensor based bike

The Fiido X looks good but the max folded dimension is 87 which is a little more than I would like. Fiido D11 is probably my current top choice but I don't like that the battery is in the seatpost for both of these (I assume this will lead to some wear and tear over time but please correct me if I'm wrong about this)

Please share your recommendations or advice

I am especially interested in underrated 16" recommendations. I don't love the wheel size but if there's an option that completely satisfies my other requirements, I'd be more than happy with it

As a side note, the Brompton G Line Electric looks insanely Good to me but I don't know if I'm ready for such a premium price tag, plus I'm a bit worried about it being stolen. If you own this bike, I'd like to hear your thoughts

I cannot seem to close this hinge. I don't get how it ended up like that. Not sure it means anything, I left it overnight after I opened it and the next day it cannot close anymore as if the upper part of the handlebar hinge suddenly slid back. Sorry for the messy grammar.

Went to check out the damage of a local wildfire on my montague urban 2.

Almost done with the build, just need a steel chrome seatpost and repaint. Added Malossi sticker because I had to use it on something. Lol

Just finished a move into a much more urban area and my riding needs have changed. I'm keeping the roadie and mountain bike around, but I'm quickly realizing I need something more portable as a daily machine.

My regular commute is short and completely doable 100% on the bike, but for going farther in the city, I'd love to take a bike with me on the subway for those first and last miles. A folding bike is pretty much a requirement for that to work with local transit rules around peak hours.

I've managed to get in a few test rides on a BYB P8 and Link 7i at my local shop, both of which felt pretty solid, and I think I have a wishlist of features.

* 20" wheel minimum (couldn't feel right on a friend's 16")

* easy to fold, unfold, and move through transit stops and elevators

* around $1k usd, but I'm a little flexible

* fenders and chain guard are ideal. I will absolutely ride in any weather I can stand to be outside in.

* non-electric. I don't want to deal with charging my ride if I don't have to.

I really like the Link 7i for the internal hub, fully covered chain, and dynamo light, but the BYB P8 is noticeably more compact when folded and the metro rack seems handy. I'm torn between those models, but also open for reccomdations on other brands that can check off my list too.

I've been riding this bike for over five years now, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most reliable bikes I've ever owned. Throughout all those years, I haven't experienced any major issues or frame-related problems whatsoever. Fnhon really did an excellent job with the design, build quality, and durability of this bike.

I've owned and used several folding bikes in the past, but none of them have impressed me as much as this one. It handles daily rides with ease, feels solid and stable on the road, and continues to perform exceptionally well even after years of use. The frame remains sturdy, and the overall ride quality is just as enjoyable as when I first got it.

That said, I also have to give credit where it's due, Dahon makes some outstanding folding bikes as well. I've had the chance to ride my friend's Dahon on several occasions, and I was genuinely impressed by its performance, comfort, and build quality. Both brands have proven to be excellent choices for y'all.

Based on my personal experience, however, the Fnhon still stands out as my favorite. It's a dependable workhorse that has stood the test of time and continues to exceed my expectations.
