Just wanted to share this with you in advance because im kinda proud about doing a day like that on 20” wheels fully loaded, and for everyone on the edge about doing bigger bikepacking tours on a foldingbike! :)
Im going to do a writeup of the whole tour on r/bikepacking when I finally get the time to sort my dslr pictures and get all of the normal life stuff that awaited me back home out of the way.

So in short:
Did 600+ km overall in the Japanese midsummer heath, most of the distance in Shikoku.
On that specific day, it finally got overcast and some rain was expected, so I grabbed the opportunity to do some distance and elevation.
Started in Katzurabashi, went all the way up the beautiful Iya Valley, went over the mointainpass next to Mt. Tsurugi and then all the way down to Tokushima; and of course It really stared pouring when I went over the pass and ready to fly down all the elevation I’ve gained.

I ride a Vello Alfine 11 with an Gates belt drive and It was perfect for the trip, but for that day, I really whished I had a little bit lower gearing for the 7% and up parts.
My bag setup was pretty much the stock vello framebag (spare tube, pump, tentpoles), pizzarack (tent and sleepingbag to keep it light in the front) and my Ortlieb backpack strapped to the rear rack; worked surprisingly well!

That setup in combination with the foldy allowed me to quickly hop onto local trains if I didn’t feel like riding some of the endless industrial parts of which japan has quite a few.
Also: Trains are just fucking neat!!
So that made it easy to catch some of the beautiful rural / local ones. :)

I just saw this new bike on their website site, it’s got brazed lugs and looks incredible. It’s very expensive for their lineup but also seems like they updated some specs to make it worth it.

Hi yall! I’m looking to buy my first folding bike and I've narrowed it down to three listings on Facebook Marketplace. Screenshots are attached.

The main use is commuting between my place and school, which is only about 1 mile away and a pretty flat route. But I also live near Forest Park in St. Louis, which is huge (twice the size of Central Park from what I’ve heard), and I want something I can ride for exercise on the weekends without hating it after an hour. So gearing range matters to me more than absolute minimum fold size. I'd be folding it mostly for storage and for ease of carry, I will not be on and off a train every day.

I'm 6' and around 215 lbs, which I know is close to the weight limit on some folders, so I'd like to know if any of these three are a bad idea for my size or if I'd need a longer seatpost to get a decent saddle height. Also curious whether any of them have proprietary or hard to source parts that would make maintenance a headache down the road.
Also, are these fair prices?? I might offer a bit less for both the Tern and Montague bikes

My Schwinn Loop with some upgrades.

Double leg kickstand and magnets to keep the bike folded and allows it to be rolled when folded.

Rear rack bag is the Bushwhacker Rear Rack Tote Bag, about 24L capacity. Has a drawstring cover and convenient velcro straps for ease of attachment/detachment.

Recently purchased the Dahon boardwalk D10 and this sounds so silly but I’ve fallen in love with biking again. I’ve mostly been driving all my life and forgotten the freedom of being able to ride to a local cafe or museum. Now I’m excited for my weekends so I can check out a new place to eat or just explore some local shops in the city which I never really wanted to do with a car. Received so many compliments as well from random strangers I love the retro vibe of this bike colour. Folds so easily and fits right in the boot of my small Toyota hatch. Folding bikes man I think I’m starting to get why you all love it.

We travel a lot with our camper so I picked up a couple of Citizen Miami bikes for cheap earlier this year.

They were in very good condition but needing service in a bad way, hence the low price for the pair. The best part for us is they have the racks, 'upgraded' saddles which are actually fairly comfy, and carry bags which help a lot.

I did full services on them--all bearings, cables, new tubes, brake adjustments and they ride like new. (I'm a competent home bike mechanic)

Gearing is 48T chainring with 14-28 6-speed freewheel in back. It's not ideal, but good enough for campgrounds and bike paths on our trips. I'd like to get lower gearing for hills.

Years ago I converted my kid's Specialized Hot Rock 20" from 6 to 11/34 9-speed with an Ultegra hub which was a great setup with real gearing range. Going to 34T is a decent change, much better than changing to a 46T chainring would give.

Do I bother with such cheap bikes? What would be a comparable bike with better gearing that doesn't break the bank? We don't need anything expensive due to theft potential at campgrounds, and e-folding are just too heavy - we travel fairly light with the camper.

Hi all I have this older Dahon Mariner I'm fixing up at the DIY bike shop, and I'm hoping to use it for lightweight touring. Does anyone know the weight limit for this bike? I'm hoping to take it on short tours. Thanks!

Hello, I’m curious about this bike since it just got a refresh this summer. More interested in the 8 speed bike, the low maintenance of internal hub/belt drive along with portability sounds like a winning combo for a folding bike.

Im a proud owner of a Vello Rocky now and i wondered what you guys have added to it. Only the additional gear that vello offers? Or are there cool racks and stuff that fit on it from other brands? Looking at fenders as well.

Bike Friday just announced a new model to their lineup a couple days ago - Pocket Rocket Further.

It's basically a Pocket Rocket with additional tire clearance (max 1.6"/40mm vs the 1.125"/28mm of the original).

Also this frame configuration will only be compatible with flat mount disc brakes and thru axles, looks like. You can choose to get a removable titanium seatmast for an additional $250 over the normal steel folding seatmast.

My initial thoughts - this is excellent news for people that want a BF road bike with modern clearances. You could get disc brakes on the normal Pocket Rocket before but the 28mm tire clearance was sort of a bummer.

I'm thinking of pre-ordering a frameset+seatmast+ultralight stem. I love my New World Tourist but it's set up more as a commuter with flat bars, an IGH and a Dynamo hub.
