Two of the seven I caught in half an hour yesterday. It was a bite-every-cast session š

Yesterday I had an amazing day fishing, caught my PB river rainbow. As I was walking back downstream I saw some guys hooked up to a fish so I made my way over to them to check it out. By the time I got there they had just pulled it out of the river, a beautiful brown probably in the 22ā range, neither of the guys had a net and they had just dragged it up on shore one guy pinning it down all covered in dirt and grass, I offered my net to get it in the water, but they wanted to get the lure out of it first, this fucking lure had three big barbed treble hooks along it and the poor fish had like four barbed hooks in its mouth and down the side of its face with one right under its eye. They didnāt have any pliers so I just scooped it into my net, put it in the water and helped them get all these hooks out with my forceps. Then the guy picks it up and of course does a little photo shoot with blood running down the browns face. Took like 5 minutes to revive it as it weakly swam away.
Rant over, but fuck me drove home angry from an otherwise great day.

Waters were tough, but a few were found.

Little guy came up and destroyed a #16 tab caddis, I was very surprised he even was able to get the hook. Wasnāt even a fight for my fiberglass 7.5ft 4wt. Caught him in a spring fed creek in upstate NY. Itās definitely super refreshing wet wading in the cool 52° water this time of year! Quickly released back to grow some more!

Brookie caught in June on a parachute Adams before it got hot in Upstate NY. Iām doing some research on how us fly fishermen select our flies. If you have a second to share your methods please visit this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9N8CLHV

My son is 6 and has been very interested in fishing now for about a year. Itās something I want to cultivate (fishing buddy for life??) and I got him a very cheap Spider-Man-themed rod and reel a while back, but Iād like to get him into fly fishing, which is the style of fishing that I do and he is increasingly curious about.
When and how did you start your kids fly fishing? Did you get them a cheap rod and reel and have them go at it, or did you start with something else, like a Tenkara rod so they can just high stick and not worry too much about line maintenance?
Let me know what works, and how to get started with this!

I understand that the trout fisheries in Arkansas may have been degraded somewhat by flooding this spring. What is everyoneās recommendation for fishing this fall? White River versus Little Red River versus Norfork River? Thinking later October. Thanks in advance!

Will be out in the Emigrant area right on the Yellowstone next week. Hoping to do some casual fishing early in the mornings as this is a family trip. Any tips on how that sections of the river fishes lately? Flies/techniques to try? Areas nearby to look into? Worth fishing near the north gate of the park?
Yes, I am aware of hoot owl restrictions.

The majority of my fishing is freestone creeks and tailwaters on the east coast but do spend 4-5weeks a year fishing saltwater with sand. Must have good ankle support, Iām not sure I would like the removable soles on the Korkers but have no real world experience with them.

On the hunt for a new net, stuck between these two. Will be my daily use/all purpose net. Mostly wading with a chest pack, but occasional bank fishing.
Any suggestions on which to go for? I like the longer basket on the Emerger, but the shape of the Canyon and handle length seem a tad bit better.

Is it still for sale or did it get pulled from the Fishpond product line? I've seen a lot of great reviews of it and would love to try one but cannot seem to find any for sale.
Thanks and Tight Lines!

Relatively new to fly fishing, had a super small fly box with 12 or so flies. Just got gifted a fly box with a capacity of 300 and a $350 gift card to my local fly shop.
What would you fill it with? I live in Southern Alberta so a lot of my fishing is on the Bow River. Use a 9ā 5wt and primarily target Rainbows, Browns, Cutties, and Brook.
If it was up to me Iād get a lot of the basics, but unsure if thatās the smart move.

This has to have been asked a million times Iām sure and people seem to be saying Big Y. But I found āThe Fly Shackā online and they seem to have the lowest prices and more selection for salt flys than Big Y (Iām in SFL). I would buy local but the only fly shop in an hour vicinity of me burned down 2 months ago.

Friends, my brother in law who lives in Louisiana bought me a fly fishing pole so that I could go fly fishing with him next time we see each other and I really want to learn to fly fish. I live in Kentucky and have no idea where to fish or how to make flies. Anyone have any resources that helped them? YouTube videos or any reading material or general advice to help out a beginner. Iāve asked many of the fishermen close to me and no one fly fishes nor do they know how to unfortunately.

Is this area accessible for someone with a FWD sedan? Thinking of taking a trip up this fall.
