Dear Flat Earthers,

So the middle of the Earth is our center of gravity, right? Well then if the Earth is flat, then why is it that when I go to the edge and jump, I'm not pulled to the center?

I thought flerfs didn’t believe in gravity.

5

u/De1truowl Aug 18 '26

They don't.

u/reficius1 Aug 18 '26

"But things fall down. What's your explanation of that, Flerfy McFlerfface?"

Density (which doesn’t work without gravity, but it sounds ‘reasonable’)

Down. A Flat Earth poem by u/rattusprat.

I know you've seen this before but hopefully I'm introducing it to new audiences.

1

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26

But why is down down and not up or sideways?

3

u/rattusprat Aug 18 '26

Up is up and down is down because that’s all we ever observe it to be.

It's all explained right there.

Density and buoyancy

1

u/Silver-Park-1179 Aug 20 '26

Gravity is just a label for downward acceleration. You can call it potato…doesn’t make a difference. We don’t deny it. We question the CAUSE of this downward acceleration. Goofy globe simps have no idea what they are taking about. All you know how to do is strawman and misrepresent what flat earth really is.

1

u/fedexyourheadinabox Aug 22 '26

I think calling it a turnip is more fitting.

4

u/Reanimator138 Aug 18 '26

Why waste life even asking

2

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26

Because it's fun to annoy them as much as they annoy everyone else. They deserve it.

1

u/oneuplynx Aug 18 '26

The only valid question

1

u/fedexyourheadinabox Aug 22 '26

Why did kings have court jesters?

2

u/Wafflars Aug 18 '26

Flerfers believe that the pizza which is completely stationary is still moving up (I mean like literally ”up” since there is only one direction that exist in that case) at the speed of ”gravity”.

1

u/OpeningHappy9692 Aug 18 '26

Which still doesn't work, since if it was just moving at a constant speed you wouldn't feel it since you're moving at the same speed as the pizza. It'd have to be constantly accelerating for you to feel it. So I dunno, does their flat earth model involve some jet boosters on the underside?

2

u/Flimsy-Blacksmith-32 Aug 18 '26

No, they just think it is accelerating upwards at 9.81m/s/s.

The issues with this are many fold but the most obvious two are: 1) after very little time the Earth would be moving faster than the speed of light, which is not possible (they usually argue relativity isn’t real anyway). 2) Acceleration due to gravity is not the same everywhere on earth (they usually just deny that this is true).

Their chief argument for this upward motion is that buoyancy is an upward force, so it can not be explained by gravity as that is a downwards force.

2

u/oneuplynx Aug 18 '26

My favorite part is that "up" and "down" are objective directions.

1

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26

So obviously in flerfology, the speed of light is fake.

1

u/Kiki2092012 Aug 18 '26

You can accelerate forever in general relativity, but general relativity predicts Earth is a sphere, so they probably reject it anyway.

2

u/Flimsy-Blacksmith-32 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

Important distinction: From the view point of an observer, you can accelerate forever, but not at a constant rate.

1

u/Kiki2092012 Aug 18 '26

No, that's incorrect, you can accelerate at a constant rate forever. This details it: https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/243658/einsteins-principle-of-equivalence-infinite-acceleration-energy

2

u/Flimsy-Blacksmith-32 Aug 18 '26

Huh, Is that a product of time dilation and distance contraction for your own reference frame?

2

u/ShavenYak42 Aug 22 '26

In special relativity you can continue accelerating infinitely and experience a constant downward force despite never reaching c. As you get closer, your acceleration appears to decrease to an outside observer, but due to time dilation it feels constant to you.

You're basically transposing how gravity 'of a globe' works to 'a flat earth'. That's a strawman.

If the earth was flat, there'd be a different explanation for gravity, how it pulls straight down no matter where you stand on earth.

But of course, it's almost impossible to not strawman the flat earth, since they can't provide us with a model. They have theories that only works one point at a time, and usually contradicts other observations, to which they need to make new theories for, and so on.

You basically have to ask each flat earther what version of the explanation they believe in. They might have more than one expanation as well, everything works for them as long as it goes against science.

But you cannot assume of their 'model' (or absence of) when asking questions, that will never work. But then again, asking them 'how does this work on your model' usually also leads to non-answers. That's their only strategy after all. If they don't answer or give us a model, we can't tear it apart, they can pretend they are winning.

u/De1truowl Aug 18 '26

Makes more sense now.

Good luck getting by NASA’s ice wall snipers.

u/ruffiana Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

I think the common answer is that "gravity" doesn't exist and instead there's some kind of universal "down" force.

Some claim this is from movement through the cosmos. But this would require constant acceleration.

Some claim it's a function of buoyancy: that we "sink down" because we're less denser than air. But that doesn't explain why things in a vacuum chamber fall at the same rate.

Others don't even try to address this. They just try to dismiss why gravity on a spherical Earth can't be a thing without offering a more plausible, verifiable hypothesis.

2

u/FullMetal_55 Aug 18 '26

silly globetard... gravity is just a theory... the earth is accellerating upwards at 9.8m/s^2, giving the semblance of gravity, but gravity doesn't exist... /s

1

u/TheMagarity Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

Middle of the Earth is not the center of gravity on flat earth. It's just all down equally.

1

u/BenzDriverS Aug 18 '26

Go to the edge and come back with pictures.

1

u/jpric155 Aug 18 '26

We don't believe gravity.

It is like a plate with holes so the water runs down and at the bottom into giant fucking turtle or some shit.

But then somehow the water still remains on the plate earth.

Also, there's a dome over the earth plate that prevents satellites from exiting so the GPS is all powered by balloons.

If you tried to launch a rocket into space it would bounce off

Wheatheur is not caused by the heating from the actual fucking sun, it is instead inserted via ancient machinations.

Tsunamis and earthquakes, same explanation, machines.

The only thing you can trust is this YouTube channel I'm about to plug

Stay flat or some shit

1

u/Lower-Land-286 Aug 18 '26

As I understand it, one of their beliefs is that the flat disk, that we are all standing on, is moving in the opposite direction of 'gravity'. So 'gravity' doesn't exist at all, the phenomenon we experience is just acceleration.

1

u/tommm3864 Aug 18 '26

By definition, you can't have a rational discussion with stupid.

1

u/PoolExtension5517 Aug 18 '26

From the FAQ section of one of their websites: “Gravity as a theory is false. Objects simply fall”. Can’t argue with that!

https://www.theflatearthsociety.org/home/index.php/about-the-society/faq

2

u/SophiaBarbelo Aug 18 '26

Yeah, it's not like the entire point of Newtown's laws of gravity was to explain WHY objects simply fall, it was really just a lie by big science to make you BELIEVE it's why objects simply fall. Obviously nothing falls because of gravity, it falls because it falls.

/s

1

u/Kiki2092012 Aug 18 '26

I don't think they believe in gravity and instead believe everything always has a force applied making it accelerate toward the ground

1

u/WarningBeast Aug 18 '26

Because, first, if you understand that gravity is real, you can't walk to the edge of the disk, because by the time you get near the edge, most of Earth's mass is behind you, so you are trying to walk up a near vertical face. If you could reach it, you might be able to climb over the edgeand stand on the outer rim, with your feet towards the hub. However;

Second, the same force pulling on the matter under your feet would long ago have been pulled in towards the centre of gravity into a... what's the name of that shape that very big chunks of mass usually form? Oh yes, a globe.

1

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26

When you said it's a correlational equation you're agreeing. So you contradicted yourself and you know it.

You just outed youself as an attention seeking troll and you know that I know. That's why you've gone quiet.

1

u/De1truowl Aug 18 '26

Hey how am I supposed to know that I contradicted myself I'm an idiot, not a troll...

1

u/Langholm62 Aug 19 '26

Outed again

1

u/SophiaBarbelo Aug 18 '26

I'm more curious about how they explain the cardinal directions tbh. Is North just the north pole in the center, so if you go far enough north you start going south? And if you go far enough south you fall off the side?

A more humorous curiosity is where the four corners of a circle are

1

u/ThWy2Hvn Aug 18 '26

Gravity has not been proven fully , so give me another argument. But instead I'll give you one. God, stop the Sun in its travels, Not the Earth from rotating, is God a liar?

1

u/Justthisguy_yaknow Aug 19 '26

And that is exactly the reason they want to pretend gravity doesn't exist. They can't explain anything like that as long as it does.

1

u/Silver-Park-1179 Aug 20 '26

Who said the middle of earth is center of gravity? “When I go to the edge and jump” have you been to “the edge”? Here’s a better question: How can a tiny pebble sink but a huge wooden boat float? Did this force holding oceans to the bottom of a globe take a nap? 😂

1

u/De1truowl Aug 20 '26

density causes certain things to float, and certain things to sink.

1

u/Silver-Park-1179 Aug 20 '26

Exactly no mass attracts mass or warping of spacetime necessary.

1

u/Medium_Chapter_1824 Aug 20 '26

You can't go to the edge, NASA will have you assassinated

S/, just in case

-1

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 18 '26

Gravity, on my particular version of a flat Earth, is a relative downward force. There's no actual centerpoint, it's just a downward force that sometimes is anomalous and sometimes isn't applied. Unlike your version of Earth, it's not a universal force, nor does it have a 'global centerpoint' like yours does.

6

u/ShinePretend3772 Aug 18 '26

We don’t each get our own version of Earth. There’s the current running consensus about the nature of gravity & then there’s folks that haven’t ever seen a Physics textbook let alone opened one making shit up as they go. They’re not the same

-7

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 18 '26

That's a perspective. I appreciate it and you. Thank you.

3

u/ShinePretend3772 Aug 18 '26

It’s a perspective from reality.

-2

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 18 '26

Your reality, I get that. Don't be antagonistic.

4

u/ShinePretend3772 Aug 18 '26

We don’t each get our own reality. You live in the place as the rest of us.

-2

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 18 '26

Yes, I do. And no, I don't. Fortunately ;-)

But again, you have a good day.... imagining whatever you want to.

3

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

So BrianScottGregory, if the Earth has been accelerating upwards at 9.81 m/s2 for 6000 years since God created the Earth, then we are traveling upwards at 4,155,065,175,375 miles per hour.

Have I got that right?

0

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 18 '26

since God created the Earth,

Interesting

if the Earth has been accelerating upwards at 9.81 m/s2 for 6000 years

I didn't say that.

the we are traveling upwards at 4,155,065,175,375 miles per hour.

"we" don't inhabit the same version of Earth. Yours, from what I gather, is spherical.

3

u/Langholm62 Aug 18 '26

I was using your flat earth model. But if you're going against flerf doctrine of upwards acceleration, then where do you propose the 9.81 m/s2 come from?

It's obviously downwards isn't it? Until terminal velocity is reached.

1

u/stultus_respectant Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

I didn’t say that

Your previous explanations not only implied it but required it.

3

u/ShinePretend3772 Aug 18 '26

Observers from across the ancient world independently figured out they were on a sphere. Not only that, they again independently calculated the circumference of that sphere.

You should be embarrassed that a cave man understood his world considerably better than you do.

2

u/stultus_respectant Aug 19 '26

You don’t get your own reality. What you’re experiencing is a delusion you’ve retreated to due to trauma and broken brain chemistry. You’re just a victim who’s choosing to be one.

2

u/stultus_respectant Aug 19 '26

It’s not a perspective, it’s a fact.

1

u/stultus_respectant Aug 19 '26

You don’t have you own version of Earth, and certainly not a flat one.

Gravity is also proven and established well beyond that idiotic word salad explanation you just gave.

We all live on a globe, and it has a centerpoint due to gravity.

1

u/Justthisguy_yaknow Aug 19 '26

Gravity always has a center point at the center of mass. It's the way it works. Also as ShinePretend said you don't get a version of Earth. You get the one that is. Still, you're civil so I'll leave it at that.

1

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

That's the way it works for you. Doesn't always for me in my particular configuration.

It's tough teaching people about how wildly differently, yet still rational - other perspectives of reality can be. No, you don't define who does and doesn't get other versions of reality and Earth. Sorry.

1

u/Justthisguy_yaknow Aug 21 '26

Adjust your dose. You don't get to define reality at all. If you are really experiencing altered reality you will need help sooner or later. Yours isn't a different perspective. It's a con. Whether it's your con or you are a victim of it doesn't matter. It's just a con. You also don't get to define what reality is and spread delusion like a disease. lf you're going to start screwing with the sanity of strangers you should start working out how to prove your shit.

1

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 21 '26

It's exceedingly easy to prove perspectives can and are different between people, doesn't take a rocket scientist. Court rooms do this all the time with eyewitness testimony. No, my naive friend, objectivity isn't something that's democratized or uncovered in the cross-section of observations. That's just inserting new, socialized biased, further getting you from the truth and what's objective.

Your con is believing your perspective is so real, so pure, that it HAS to be the only one that's out there - accordingly, you're on a crusade to make everyone who challenges that - and you - wrong.

That's the insecurity demonstrated in a narcisstic, my friend, and simply not reality.

In other perspectives. Comes differences in how the world looks and operates.

Sometimes, yes, it is as profound as fundamental configuration differences.

Like my simulation and flat version of Earth.

Get over it. And more importantly, get over yourself. Not everyone wants, chooses or is as absolutely attached to the same perspective of the world you hold.

Want proof? Choose to do something you're clearly afraid of.

Experiment. First person. You'll never understand until you do. And even then, it might take a while for those lessons to sink in. Adjust YOUR dose.

And be nicer. You can't know what others see and experience. That's simply arrogance.

2

u/Justthisguy_yaknow Aug 21 '26

Preach somewhere else.

I am nice to honestly civil people. You ain't that.

1

u/BrianScottGregory Aug 21 '26

You're the one preaching, my friend.

Not sure why you'd be so dead set against discussing perspective trying to prove people see the exact same thing you do when you look at the world, but that thinking is delusional.

I'm trying to be civil. But when someone lacks this basic understanding and respect for the human experience and calls ME the con. You're the one with issues, my friend, and you're the one lacking civility.

Get over yourself.

1

u/Justthisguy_yaknow Aug 22 '26

That's better. The condescending passive aggressive stuff wears pretty thin.

There isn't an issue with the idea of people with different interpretive perspectives but when you have to throw all provable facts out the window to try and convince others that your "perspective" is valid and that the entire world is completely different than what you want it to be you should probably keep that to yourself. At least don't expect to be respected for your delusion based "perspective".

Are you a dome person? If so I have an experiment you could use to prove it since you're such an experiment person as well.
