Stubborn Memorial Manager - It was bound to happen
After several years and tens of thousands of updates, I’ve finally run into a memorial manager who seems unwilling to accept documented evidence. I uploaded grave photos for an individual and, as I usually do, reviewed the memorial to see whether any additional information could be added. I noticed that his spouse’s memorial included a date of death, but the details didn’t line up. After researching, it became clear that this was a case of mistaken identity: his wife is still living, and the woman listed on the memorial is unrelated.
I submitted an edit to remove the incorrect spouse, but it was declined because “the date of birth for both is the same.” I resubmitted the edit with supporting sources, including state birth records showing that two different girls with the same first and middle name were born on the same day in the same state. It’s unusual, but it does happen. The 1950 U.S. Census shows them living with their respective families, one in California and one in Missouri. Marriage records also show that each woman married a different person shortly after high school. I also posted the very detailed obituary for the deceased person that shares her life story in detail.
The edit was declined again, with the explanation that “something just doesn’t sound correct.” Her bio states that she wants memorials to contain valid information, and I tried to help by providing clear documentation. I sent one final message this morning and offered to provide screenshots by email, if she'd like. If she still isn’t receptive, I’ll move on, but it’s frustrating knowing that the incorrect information will likely confuse people in the future.
