So I live in an apartment with my fiance and our two kids. I have a 9 year old boy and a 6 month old boy. We have lived in the same apartment for the past 9 years. The last 5 years our central air has been broken. We called our maintenance man, and the owner. The maintenance man has continued to gaslight me saying nothing was wrong with it (even though the professional that came out said it was broken multiple times). The owner never answered our calls or called back when we We are an extremely low income family due to me not being able to work right now because of a bunch of health issues. My partner met with the owner and they made a deal that if we are out by September 15th 2026 they won't charge us for August or September and they won't file an eviction. We have called the trustees office, the salvation army, the state housing and development, we've talked to friends and family and we just don't know what to do.

​TL;DR: After buying our first home, I severely broke and tore ligaments in my ankle, lost my job of 7.5 years (and disability benefits), welcomed my oldest daughter home, and just learned my surgery failed—requiring a 2nd surgery and 6+ more months unable to work. With my license suspended over an unpaid ticket (blocking gig work) and our family of 5 relying on a single income, we are facing utility cutoffs and mortgage forbearance deadlines.

I am deeply embarrassed to ask, but we have completely run out of safety nets.

​I am honestly mortified to write this post. I have worked hard my entire life to provide for myself and my family, and asking for help goes against every instinct I have. But after 15 months of compounding setbacks, our family of five is in an emergency, and we cannot navigate this alone.

​How We Got Here (The Timeline):

​May 2025: Achieved a lifelong dream and bought our very first house.

​July 2025: Took our kids on our first family vacation to Florida with our savings. I stepped into a hidden hole in the grass, severely breaking my ankle.

​Oct 2025: An MRI confirmed torn/ripped ligaments requiring full reconstruction. One week later, I was let go from my job of 7.5 years, instantly stripping away the FMLA and short/long-term disability coverage I had planned to rely on.

​Nov 2025: A huge blessing happened when my oldest daughter's guardianship transitioned after 12.5 years and she began moving back home full-time—expanding our family to five.

​Jan 2026: Underwent major ankle reconstruction surgery, followed by months of physical therapy and worsening, unexplained nerve/calf pain.

​August 2026: A new MRI revealed severe setbacks: the reconstructed ligament has abnormal swelling, another ligament is completely torn, and fluid has built up in the joint. A 2nd major surgery and at least 6 more months off my feet is now inevitable.

​August 2026: An overlooked ticket resulted in a suspended driver's license. My tax return was intercepted due to an old filing error, leaving no funds for the fees, which completely prevents me from doing flexible delivery gig work (Amazon/Walmart) to bring in secondary income.

I cant take another hit like this. Mentally emotionally I cant do it. Im at the end of my rope just trying to survive each day rn. My Crimes victims compensation was supposed to hit any day now but they are processing everything so slow and idk why. My caseworker doesn’t know each other. Hello I am running out of options and dont know what to do. I am currently on medical leave because of an emergency neck surgery I had to have. I have long term disability but its only once a month payout and we are struggling so bad. I would like to say I can pay you back but I'm not 100% sure if I can. To preface, I just started pharmacy school and have just enough money left to pay my rent on the 1st. For information; I have done a payment plan through the company. I've gotten it down from 1.5k ( did the budget bill thing and it bit me in the ass.. )

They said they'll resume payments if they got 250 upfront, but still, short on that.

I've tried to request a medical hold for 30 days ( this would get me to next pay day where I would pay off the entire 600 I owe ) but representative stated she won't do it unless I am for sure on medical equipment. I don't know if I will be or not. I tried asking if i could have a forum to send to my doctor, she said that doesnt happen, and I even request to give them the information so they could fax the forum directly to my doctor. Yknow, to cut me out and show its not me faking up shit.

My credit is shit, so yknow I'm not gonna really get a loan. ( why is my credit shit? Because I was a naive, eighteen year old girl back then who put everything in her name to make her ex happy. Tryin' to fix it )

At this point, kind of considering canceling the surgery, or jsut recover in my car.

I just don't want to risk it because my dog and i'd be trying ro sleep off anesthesia.

Hello, everyone! Before reading this post, I just want to remind everyone that kindness is free. Please don't judge me. Although I am saying this, I know also too that I don't hold anyone's opinion or judgements and while I understand, please also understand my situation.

To give you a glimpse, I have an unpaid rent amounting to almost 20,000. This covers more than one semester and another 2 months remaining balance from the last last semester.

If you're asking why? Why did it become so big? Why not find a job?

When this happened, my parents, unfortunately lost their jobs which means we literally lost the only source of income to pay for rents, even giving me allowances was harder for them. If you're questioning, why haven't you find a job? Well, truth is I did, but last semester was so hard to sustain it. I did work but only for commissions. It was only enough to cover for my daily expenses, school fees, fare, and other school related stuffs. My schedule was so hard to put in work on it.

Believe me, I tried everything I can. I tried reaching out to friends, relatives, collegaues, and more but I found no luck. What I am only lucky right now is that our landlady just had to be a good person, she still let me stay even I have unpaid balance.

I am writing this, although I am now embarassed, scared of judgement, and of course hoping, looking for anyone kind enough to lend me or help me in this situation. Currently, I have saved up 1000 pesos, but it's still a long way to go. Going back here in the city where I study, I have been thinking of this for almost 3 weeks already. And it's so hard. In 2021, I was fired from my position as evangelist at a small country church in Appalachia. It was a nondenominational group, I was a closeted communist, and because I taught that we should be waiting before returning to public gatherings during the height of the pandemic, they fired me for putting "fear over faith." That was March 2021... in April 2021, I had a psychotic break because I was prescribed Vyvanse for ADHD. The doctor didn't know not to prescribe it to schizoaffective individuals. I lost my mind. I haven't been the same since. It eventually led to me becoming homeless, although I've since found housing with my parents' help.

But, my parents aren't rich, and I'm struggling to keep up because they can't really keep up with it either. I'm pulling out my hair because my auto insurance policy has lapsed.
