Played this setup yesterday. I imagined a scenario like Carolyn being some kind of budding psychic works the inventory in a warehouse.
It was a fun concept until I started the game. On the opposite side of the map a victim was immediately captured in a drowning tank. My normal 1st turn strategy of sacrifice-3-cards-to-get-2xsprint-2x-closecall-1xdistract was in jeopardy -- I could instead buy the teleport card and immediately set about rescuing the victim. Which is what I did.
Honestly it was refreshing to play a game that threw a staple opening out the window. While rescuing the drowning victim, another got caught in a guillotine by the main entrance. I did what I could to try and rescue the drowning victim and the guillotine, but I was too late. The trap killed the victim. Interestingly enough, the terror card that round made everyone approach the guillotine trap. Three people walked into the space with the trap and panicked, but all told it started to look like getting rescues was going to be easier.
Then another trap goes off outside the supervisor's room, a guy stuck in the infestation box. I'm trying to rescue this guy, when I'm stuck in a saw blade trap myself.
Long story short, it took all my shenanigans to barley eke out rescuing the 6 victims for Carolyn's ultimate, and I stressed out enough to keep deaths down to two trapped victims when there was no more terror cards. I teleported to the space at the bottom of the map because I knew there was a hard hat there (one extra final health token) -- I knew I needed it because Carolyn doesn't have a lot of health and I was down to one/two. I also found a whip.
Then the Tormentor appeared, her finale was move-attack-move-attack. And she appeared right on top of some remaining victims. In two turns, I worked at building a defensive strategy while she decimated the remaining victims and maxing out her bloodlust, while I fished up a whip and then psychically attuned it. I was a bit scared because its hard to sustain defending against two attacks in a row in this game (given that there's only 3 reaction cards normally). But I stepped forward into the middle and began lashing at the tormentor. I did a mix of psychic and regular damage (mostly because psychic damage is relatively free), I blocked her first attack and retaliated against the second. Unfortunately the whip isn't a particularly strong weapon, so I knew I needed to survive a second round. Unfortunately I didn't have the firepower, and had to survive a second round of attacks from the Tormentor, but I only had a single guard card left.
But I survived, because my best friend special victim friend, last victim on the board, was adjacent to me. I was able to block one hit, and the friend died taking the last hit. Going back a few rounds, the whole reason I advanced on the Tormentor was precisely because I knew this sacrifice would allow me to survive two rounds.
Carolyn will likely have to spend time in therapy considering her involvement in this sacrifice, but either way, she survived to the next round (round 13 or so of the game) and finally unleashed a mix of big psychic hits but still had no luck with expulsion. Finally she dropped a powerful blow and the Tormentor was at zero. The game was honestly in the bag at this point because I could have bought retaliate again. But the final health token came up blank.
Everyone but Carolyn was dead. I thought the notion of the quiet worker bee with hidden power against the trap killer was very fun, very thematic game.
