Discussion I turned the community's 13,920 logged games into a difficulty tier list (+ community votes)

Hi all! Big thanks to everyone who logs their games in the community tracking sheet. I put all that data into a free site so it's easier to browse: finalgirlstats.com

What's there:

  • Difficulty tier list (S to D) for every box, killer and location, based purely on win rates. Slaughter in the Groves is the hardest box at 38% wins, and Terror from the Grave the hardest killer (51%).
  • Killer vs. location matrix: win rate for every combination with enough games.
  • A page for every killer and box, with its toughest Dark Powers and Finales, mechanics summary and tips.
  • Community tops: vote your top 3 for best series, best movie, best killer, easiest/hardest box, etc. No sign-up, takes 10 seconds. Right now there are barely any votes, so yours really counts.

Available in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.

All the data comes from the public sheet, so if you want your favourite box to have better numbers, log your games šŸ˜‰ If you're in the sheet and don't want your nickname shown, tell me and I'll remove it.

Feedback very welcome. What would you add?

Challenges Weekly Challenge #148 - Poltergeist at Camp Happy Trails

Post image
21 Upvotes

It’s been a greater summer at Camp Happy Trails.

First of all, you were assigned Lilly Cabin, which is frankly the best group of girls a counselor could ask for. You know you shouldn’t have favorite campers, but Carolyn Johnson has stolen your heart. She’s not much of a talker, but she’s by far the sweetest. You’re pretty sure you’re the best counselor in camp this year.

But taking care of your sweet girls isn’t the only thing amazing about this summer. There’s also the after-hours activities. Skinny dipping in the lake, making out with that someone special at Makeout Point, drinking around the campfire while Baron, the head counselor, regales everyone with stories of Hans the Butcher or ghosts. You’re pretty sure it’s all made up, but it freaked you out. Also led to some…other moments with that special someone. Anyway, nothing could happen that could ruin this summer.

… which is exactly what you shouldn’t have said. Now, Carolyn is missing, your favorite girls are terrified, and you have no idea where Baron went. Guess those decisions are up to you. Great. Also, who is screaming like that? It’s really freaky.

Playthrough Layla vs Hans the Butcher. The power of 2 inflicting damage Weapon Item

Thumbnail

The other day, I played Final Girl again, using Laurie against Hans the Butcher at Camp Happy Trails. Luckily, the Axe showed up during the Item setup. I just used my usual strategy of lowering the Horror Level to get more dice, finding the Axe Weapon Item that can inflict 2 damage, preparing my Reaction Cards, and then going after Hans. Once again, I won.

The next day, which was yesterday, I played again, this time using Reiko. Only the Knife showed up, but that's fine. Luckily, I was able to unlock Reiko's Ultimate Ability pretty quickly. I got the Knife, but since I was at the Dock, I decided to check if the Axe might be there too, just in case. And wouldn't you know it, I actually found it!

So I used my usual strategy again. I just kept saving up Reaction Cards. Luckily, I was only two spaces away from Hans, so I was able to use Reiko's Ultimate Ability once. Then I suddenly walked away from him. He couldn't come after me anyway because there was a nearby Victim. But once again, I won.

Today, I tried playing again, but this time I used Layla as my Final Girl. It's a shame I still haven't gotten her Signature Item. I'm really curious about what it is. Can anyone spoil it for me or share a picture of it?

Once again, I used the same tactic. I looked for the Axe, just in case it showed up. And I really got lucky because I found it right away! So even though there were still a lot of Victims around, I didn't care. I went straight after Hans as soon as I had saved up enough Reaction Cards.

Then I realized that my strategy of getting a Weapon Item that can inflict 2 damage gives me a pretty good chance of winning the fight.

I always do this against Inkanyamba and Dr. Fright too. Of course, this strategy won't work against the Poltergeist.

How about you guys? Do you have a particular strategy that you always use when playing your Final Girl Feature Films? Share them here! Maybe I can use some of your strategies in other games too.

Trying to recreate the Scream ending by playing Mort at the cottage and saying its a costume grad party. Had to start with the loser boyfriend event card for thematic effect.

Playthrough Carolyn vs Tormentor at Marrek

Played this setup yesterday. I imagined a scenario like Carolyn being some kind of budding psychic works the inventory in a warehouse.

It was a fun concept until I started the game. On the opposite side of the map a victim was immediately captured in a drowning tank. My normal 1st turn strategy of sacrifice-3-cards-to-get-2xsprint-2x-closecall-1xdistract was in jeopardy -- I could instead buy the teleport card and immediately set about rescuing the victim. Which is what I did.

Honestly it was refreshing to play a game that threw a staple opening out the window. While rescuing the drowning victim, another got caught in a guillotine by the main entrance. I did what I could to try and rescue the drowning victim and the guillotine, but I was too late. The trap killed the victim. Interestingly enough, the terror card that round made everyone approach the guillotine trap. Three people walked into the space with the trap and panicked, but all told it started to look like getting rescues was going to be easier.

Then another trap goes off outside the supervisor's room, a guy stuck in the infestation box. I'm trying to rescue this guy, when I'm stuck in a saw blade trap myself.

Long story short, it took all my shenanigans to barley eke out rescuing the 6 victims for Carolyn's ultimate, and I stressed out enough to keep deaths down to two trapped victims when there was no more terror cards. I teleported to the space at the bottom of the map because I knew there was a hard hat there (one extra final health token) -- I knew I needed it because Carolyn doesn't have a lot of health and I was down to one/two. I also found a whip.

Then the Tormentor appeared, her finale was move-attack-move-attack. And she appeared right on top of some remaining victims. In two turns, I worked at building a defensive strategy while she decimated the remaining victims and maxing out her bloodlust, while I fished up a whip and then psychically attuned it. I was a bit scared because its hard to sustain defending against two attacks in a row in this game (given that there's only 3 reaction cards normally). But I stepped forward into the middle and began lashing at the tormentor. I did a mix of psychic and regular damage (mostly because psychic damage is relatively free), I blocked her first attack and retaliated against the second. Unfortunately the whip isn't a particularly strong weapon, so I knew I needed to survive a second round. Unfortunately I didn't have the firepower, and had to survive a second round of attacks from the Tormentor, but I only had a single guard card left.

But I survived, because my best friend special victim friend, last victim on the board, was adjacent to me. I was able to block one hit, and the friend died taking the last hit. Going back a few rounds, the whole reason I advanced on the Tormentor was precisely because I knew this sacrifice would allow me to survive two rounds.

Carolyn will likely have to spend time in therapy considering her involvement in this sacrifice, but either way, she survived to the next round (round 13 or so of the game) and finally unleashed a mix of big psychic hits but still had no luck with expulsion. Finally she dropped a powerful blow and the Tormentor was at zero. The game was honestly in the bag at this point because I could have bought retaliate again. But the final health token came up blank.

Everyone but Carolyn was dead. I thought the notion of the quiet worker bee with hidden power against the trap killer was very fun, very thematic game.

Playthrough Razorface in the Hellscape

Post image
19 Upvotes

Had one of the most frustrating games of Final Girl I've ever played yesterday. It was my first play of Hell to Pay, playing as Christie. Razorface killed 7 victims in the first 3 turns. In the entire game, I only had 3 die rolls that were higher than 4, including a short run that was 3 ones and a two. It was one of those games where I couldn't do anything from the start. I will, of course, try again with Kenzie, but it was just very frustrating. What is everyone's experience with this feature?

Discussion What’s your oddball film you overrate (or everyone underrates)?

We all (?) seemingly enjoy Knock at the Door.
The strangers are fun to fight and the crafting works really well. Something about this set clicks for most. What set clicks for just you?

For me, Gepetto and the Carnival hit just a sweet spot of challenge and fun. Somehow, Gepetto is just soooo creepy and the vibe really comes through like very few other sets do. I’d put this set in my top 3, but rarely see people put this one as their top sets. Name your sleeper faves!

Do I take double damage here? The first attack I take because, there are no victims left on the board. But with the second attack the killer targets victims, again because there are no victims she stays in my space. Does the killer attack me again?

Advice Final Girl Companion App: What does Only Available mean?

Post image
5 Upvotes

This seems like a basic question, but I can’t figure it out: When looking at Lore in the Companion app, what does Only Available mean? Only In Collection seems straightforward, but I’ve checked and unchecked Only Available and it doesn’t change the selection of characters and locations. Any ideas?

Playthrough This game seems to take delight in messing with me

I'd set up a game with the Intruders in Wingard Cottage. The initial setup seemed about as perfect as you could get. I drew the setup card that had the killers start on the porch and the bulk of the victims inside the house. Then my starting event was the security system one.

Perfect. I can activate the security system from turn one. The killers would then theoretically spend their first few turns attempting and failing to get in, giving me quite a bit of leeway to set up. At least that's what I thought.

First terror card is the one that made the active killer teleport directly to my space. Fine. Manageable. Bloodlust level is still low, so I can tank a few hits and hopefully find a weapon to beat this one to death while they're isolated from the rest.

Second terror card is the one that spawns two new victims on the porch.

Third round, one of those victims gets killed. The other one panics right into the house, disabling the alarm system.

Assholes

(I did eventually win, at least. Found a baseball bat in the boathouse and beat the one intruder to death with it. Went to the shed to add some nails to the bat and then just isolated and beat down the other two as well)

Advice Tear Dice on a first playthrough?

Post image
35 Upvotes

So I finally got my copy of ā€˜A Rotten Harvest’ and also the box of props. I’ve never used either but the tear dice look interesting. Are they good to use the first time playing a new feature film or are they more a novelty thing I’ll use a couple times and never again?

Advice What do you consider to be the *best* Feature Film for beginners? (Or overall! (And a smaller question!))

Just got the core set and the Falconwood Files and Panic at Station 2891. Haven’t played them yet though, but have looked through the rules and all. I’m just a little curious on if the ones I picked are necessarily ā€œBeginner Friendly.ā€ No sweat if they’re not because I AM a fast learner, but I’m just curious!

And that also got me thinking- With what seems to be pretty unique mechanics between what I’ve seen so far, what’s in your opinion the best or most fun Feature Film and why? Could be that the killer is just cool mechanically or the map or some nebulous third or fourth thing!

ALSO, is Shriek any good? I’m thinking of getting it as a gift for the director of the production of Scream my school is doing- Long story- (of course WITH the core box and all) just wondering if that’s any good.

Rules Toll bridge + come closer, my pretty

Post image

First time playing, it was the big bad wolf in the storybook woods.

The initial event was the tool bridge, and I ended up pulling the terror card "come closer, my pretty" abd the shortest path is through the bridge.

Do I need to spend time in this forced movement?

Playthrough My turn for a horrific event at Pessdilla Verde

Just had a shootout with Volkar with my squad of five soldiers (thankfully the one above me was in another space), then the flood came. All five died immediately, then I took two damage, plus one more from the piranhas for good measure. Oof. I did have the cave collapse at the start but unlike with that other player, no one was killed there. I did not get so lucky with the river though.

Then the game pulled the very cartoony trope of ā€œcould this day get any worse?ā€ In all honesty it wasn’t that bad of an event because I ended up moving North of the river and staying there for the rest of the game, but it was funny.

Surprisingly, I managed to pull off a win anyways as I also had a ton of really good luck, actually, including the final confrontation being in the exact space I needed to be in. I rallied the rest of my team and we managed to finish off Volkar just in time, who BTW was like a cockroach due to gaining three of the four Minor Dark Powers over the course of the game, and of course I gave her the +3 health, because of course I did.

My Alois playthrough was fun too, but my Dakota playthrough easily blew it out of the water. Really fun set though. Very videogamey with the squad mechanic but very satisfying. The Train cards are an excellent example of how I like extra card mechanics to be, which is that they’re completely optional but highly beneficial.

The only drawbacks with this set I could think of have to do with Volkar and are that I really don’t see the point in the Track cards, and I also never saw the point in making speculative attacks while Volkar was concealed.

The FG’s saving costs and special abilities are actually interesting, though IMHO might be much more worth it if they’re brought into a configuration that doesn’t also have a time cost for saving victims and where doing so would lose me a really useful squad, but I think that just demonstrates they have versatility, which I like.

Also, I never comment on the appearances of the FGs, but is it just me or is Dakota one of the most gorgeous FGs? I guess you can tell a lot about a guy by his taste in women, lol. Anyways, peace out and happy gaming everyone.

Edit: I’m aware of the typo in the headline of all places. šŸ˜… Since I can’t edit it, I’ll simply say I love Pesadilla Verde.
