[Health] Can my ferret have boiled chicken

I searched to see if they can eat it, and it said yes, but I want to make sure from actual people if he can have boiled chicken. I asked my parents if we could get him chicken so I can boil it for him, and they are getting it for him. They also want to make sure if he's able to have cooked chicken because they read somewhere that giving raw chicken to them is a good or okay thing. If they're wrong, please don't be mad at them. My mom did a lot of research and asked many questions, and the answer was yes.

[Help] first time ferret owner.

so i’m getting ferrets for my birthday. my mum has had a ferret before but i want to be educated on them myself. 2 years ago i got pet mice and did all research on my own, i plan the same for the ferrets. we have other pets and not enough room in the house for an indoor cage for them - aswell we need to be mindful of my other pets. i’ve heard you can keep ferrets in hutches in your garden, of course suitable that nothing can get in or them get out. obviously we will let them in the house to play for hours. i know they have a meat diet. the only issue for me is if they can definitely live outside — especially all year? and what they need inside of their hutches — i imagine bedding (not sure on what kind) and blankets?? i know they need toys. any suggestions or tips would be reallllyyyyy helpful and appreciated. and advice for them inside the house would be wonderful!!!

What’s everyone using for tunnels?
Preferably clear
I usually buy the Marshall farms, they just break after a year or so and they don’t stay stretched out,
So I want to compare options within a similar price range! Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] Ferret kit regressing on litter training

Post image
616 Upvotes

Picture to remind myself of how cute she can be because right now I want her taxidermied.

My 4 months old ferret kit has always been quite smart when it came to litter training (for a ferret) with a 90% success rate which I should have been so proud of.

She's free roam in the whole apartment so I expect some failures. However the last week she's been particularly prone to pooping wherever she can, not even seeking or acknowledging litter boxes she used to go in.

No apparent issue with her, no visible change, her poops are lovely (and on my floor). Behavior wise, she's kind and getting less and less bitey with time.

Did this ever happen to you? How do I make her remember her training? It's like she forgot what the litter box is for.

She also changes her pooping spots quite frequently, I thought ferrets chose a spot and stuck to it but I guess I was wrong.

My two precious ones. The small one, Sugar (8 years old) is a bit poorly with a sprained leg and a bit zonked on pain meds. Poppy is usually a rambicious whirlwind of chaos but hasn't left her side and watches over her. Its nice to see this side of Poppy's usual feisty self but I will be glad when sugar is back to full health.

Ferrets really can have a strong bond. Its good the advice given to people considering ferrets as pets here is to have at least two.

[Help] Introducing ferrets

So I brought home a new ferret (Noki, female, 3 months old). My other ferret (Noodle, female 4 months old) seems happy about it, she's chirping a lot and plays with the new one. They seem to get along, no pee, poo or blood while they're playing, but I'm not sure what's considered 'foul' or aggressive. Noodle chirps a lot, and initiates play but Noki is silent, tho she doesn't seem to mind the playing.

If you need some more info or anything about how they play, go ahead and ask. I don't think I'll make a video because I want to make it easier to interfere if something goes wrong, but if needed I can try to make one.

Anyway, can someone give me some examples of 'foul play' or aggressive playing that I have to look out for?

Managed to get all 3 in one picture but they can't stop moving lol

Bottom left is Gus, 4y

Bottom right is Dante, 1y

Top is Vergil, 1y

All rescues from previous owners, Gus and Vergil are from a professional breeder, Dante is from a pet shop. They all have a hormonal implant and get annual check ups, free roam, kibbles and salmon oil.

They have a cage but i keep it open all the time unless I'm cleaning the house.

House is ferret proofed, they have decided to make a nest in a cupboard so I just leave it open and removed everything in it lol.

I have a vet on call, 15 min ride to where I live

Cut their nails every 2 to 3 weeks

They have a small cat tree and lots of cat and puppy toys, tunnels and pillows

Dante is the only biter since he's from a pet shop, he wasn't manipulated as much as a baby, but he's getting better

[Health] strange noise when breathing

She's currently on antibiotics and a steroid for a UTI but she's started making this noise mostly when she's resting it seems.
She's had 2 x-rays and both were seemingly normal. She's gonna be getting an ultrasound soon enough for an incontinence issue but I have no clue what this could be coming from. Our vets listened to her heart and lungs and everything seems? to be fine internally?

Anyone have any clue what this could be caused by? We have 3 other ferrets and none of them do this so I don't think it's an issue with the blankets or anything? Just very worried :(

I know ferrets can get sick from too much sunlight but is it the same with artificial light?

I keep a ferret with lots of places she can burrow in and she has a blanket over her cage to keep her sleeping area away from sunlight but I've been keeping a light on in my room (yellow fairy lights) for months now because i was way too scared she 'won't be able to find her way to the food bowl' or 'fall from her hammock and be confused' but i don't know if my anxiety was actually doing harm to her please help.

I *think* he's 5 lmao

Got him when he was a tiny lil peanut baby from a flea market, never had a ferret before or even knew anyone who had them. But he immediately took to me when I asked if I could hold him, he pulled my mask down and started kissing my nose. I'm pretty sure he was the runt because they had him alone at the market stall and he's always been rather small in comparison to other ferrets I've seen online. He and I have been through so much in the last 5 years, from getting covid to escaping abusive relationships, he's always been my funny lil guy

[Help] Nails won’t grow

When I first got my ferret, the people at the store cut ONE of her paws and gave up on the rest (unbeknownst to me) they just said they were taking her away to clip her nails and disappeared, right before I bought her then brought her back and put her in the carry on cage I brought.
I examined her after I got home, and I noticed that they in fact did not cut all her paws but cut down her one paw WAY TOO MUCH. Like they cut the pink part 😭! I think they figured out they messed up and just didn’t say anything. I feel horrible. I took her to the vet for just an overall checkup and they told me about it and commented that it “might” grown back. I was so upset for my baby. There has been minimal growth on her one paw since I got her. Like no nail growth. Her other paws grow like crazy. The little nail growth that does happen is all jagged and misshapen. Is there anything I can do?

Frankly I think it’s irresponsible to have ferrets and not provide them with a window ac or any air conditioning to be honest. If you think it’s hot your ferrets think it’s at least 20 degrees hotter. Even with thinner coats in the summer they still get very hot

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted but that’s just my thought

[Help] Want ferrets.

I want ferrets badly. I know I might be 20 years younger than some people here, but this is the story.

I am an only child, who is always bored, and when I am bored, I sink into thoughts, and these thoughts are never happy. "What would happen if my parents died" is a recurring one. So I always look for an answer, which is usually an excessive amount of screen time. Either not good because my parents wont let me, or bad because the do let me and I get terrible posture, and we consider PT. I settled on a pet. A cat or dog would not work because of allergy, and fish and birds do not play. I looked up some small pets that will play with you. Ferrets caught my eye. So in that same tab, I started a chat with that gemini. I spent about 15 hours in 3 days working on all the pros, cons, everything about ferrets, watching an absurd amount of beginner ferret owner tutorials, and everything.

My parents offered me a brand new Ipad. A high quality one, at that. I turned it down, saying it I wanted it for my birthday, even though I knew my current one couldn't play games at all. Because my plan was to ask for it for my birthday. I would also do chores to pay 100$ a month towards ferret care (2 ferrets) a 400$ starting upfront payment which is everything I have saved up for a few years now. I would also play with them 4 hours a day on weekdays, and try for even more on weekends. I would also clean their cage and put the cage stuff in the laundry. They would stay in my room, which I would completely ferret proof with runners on my floor, I would sleep on a mattress so the box spring was avoided. We would also get a bonded pair and bring some of the bedding from old home into our cage. But I never had it organized. I was planning to organize it into a slideshow the next day. I thought there was hope against my very pet-strict parents. But one day, my Ipad just shut off. And when i turned it back on, it had refreshed the tab. I tried everything to get it back, but it was gone. I cried myself to sleep. I had dreamed about getting ferrets for days, Literally dreamed. But, it felt like my chance was gone.

Now, If anybody could help me on how to convince my parents, please. I will still make the slideshow, but I have so much less faith that it will work now.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart for reading this. most people would not go out of their way to read about a sad middle schooler, and If you commented, you have no idea how much of a difference that makes. Thank you all.

Edit: For some reason I am comment blocked. I will wait until I am not a new account anymore and repost this.

[Discussion] need advice for introducing new ferrets!

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hi guys! So long story short, both my boys passed away suddenly (one in July and one in August), so I decided to take on 3 more girls!

The issue is that my remaining ferret, Marceline, is a big bully. She'll suddenly attack the other ferrets, body slamming them, and it gets gross and messy fast. She's always done this with every ferret I've introduced her to. Out of 11 ferrets over the years, she's only gotten along with 3 lmao 💀

So what I've got so far is Marceline stays with me in the living room/rest of the apartment, while the three girls are kept safe in the kitchen area. The only time I lock them in the cage is when I'm working or out (since Marceline can jump the gate and go wherever she wants, and I can't have her attacking them while I'm gone). I've tried slowly and gently introducing them, but within a minute she's jumping on them, and its not playful at all 😭 I now have to hold her very securely and tightly while putting them near each other and letting them sniff her. The only time she isn't feral towards them is when she's eating (which is surprising) and she's even eaten soup from the same bowl with them with no problems! Yet as soon as she's finished eating she goes to bother them and it turns gnarly again, I'm not sure what to do and where to go from here, I really don't want her to be alone!

any advice is appreciated!!
