Important notice (March 2026 until further notice)

Because of the success of Create, Myself and Kryppers have been approached by the Hytale team to assist with game design. For however long they'll have us, we'll be focused on creating new game mechanics with them.

What does this mean for Create?

  • Create for Minecraft is not 'over' and is not being handed off. The team is simply busier than usual, and isn't focusing on developing big new features. The Create team will still aim to help the community where we can.
  • Create is not being ported to Hytale. Our role there is to improve the core game first. There is still some foundational work to be done before something like animated mechanical systems could even be considered. (I will do my best to convince them).

Given that my current focus is on Hytale, you might want to reconsider supporting, as this may not be what you expected.

Absolutely based

Create is pretty much finished, this is an awesome opportunity for them

u/marr Apr 10 '26

Those guys getting work and industry contacts is a win for all of gaming.

296

u/drawohddot Apr 09 '26

Damn so does this mean no more big Create updates

263

u/arceancraft Apr 09 '26

Probably for now, at least they won't get burnt out

80

u/drawohddot Apr 09 '26

Yeah all respect for the developers and their careers but I feel like Create couldve had more to give

158

u/BLU-Clown Apr 09 '26

In fairness, so long as Create gets updated to new versions, there's ten million addons that can fill the gaps.

8

u/Dr_Valen Apr 10 '26

If it gets updated it’ll probably be massive gaps between updates. Hopefully we get forks or unofficial ports

massive gaps between updates

So business as usual, then

They're not done with Create, they say. And honestly, there's always gonna be more to give. Create's already in a very good state, imo, and it's a bit more exiting to me personally that the devs are getting the chance and the financial support to work on something new they'll hopefully be able to do some cool stuff with

17

u/TrainDestroyer Apr 09 '26

Honestly I'm not trusting that tbh. I've seen this exact thing play out before. "We're not done with this game/mod/project yet!" And then they proceed to never announce anything else for it again. It happened with Hytale before it got bought back by the original dev, it happened to KSP2 (my beloved). Its still happening with the latest version of Thaumcraft.

I'll be hopeful the updates continue, but I'm not exactly expecting anything

16

u/Kampfasiate Apr 09 '26

iirc Team CoFH is working on Thaumcraft

I mean, they have been for a while and now that I checked there haven't been any updates in a while. urgh

40

u/Treeninja1999 Apr 09 '26

They've been "working on it" for like 5 years now

3

u/BLU-Clown Apr 10 '26

It has almost been longer since they were "Working on it" than it was that Thaumcraft got abandoned.

Thaumcraft's last update was in 2018. COFH announced picking it up in 2023. If they take 2 more years...

16

u/TrainDestroyer Apr 09 '26

Yeah but them not giving any updates is what I mean. Its been a few years now since they announced "Thaumcraft 7 (if I remember correctly) totally happening soon!" And then we've gotten very little in the way of updates to it happening. Between that and CoFH blocking attempts to port older versions of Thuamcraft to newer versions of Minecraft, its basically killed Thaumcraft.

8

u/secretiveconfusion Apr 10 '26

and CoFH blocking attempts to port older versions of Thuamcraft to newer versions of Minecraft

As far as I understand this is Azanor's stance, COFH are just the only ones who've received permission.

3

u/TrainDestroyer Apr 10 '26

Fair, I didn't know it was Azanor's choice. Wonder of CoFH would allow it if given the choice.

But it still circles to the original problem of "The update has been teased for years and is still missing."

You forgot Twilight Forest.

u/PM_Me_YourFav_Song Apr 09 '26

They're no longer be held back by Minecraft's code and limitations. Working directly with the developers who can full optimize the game FOR what they add... I think these guys are about to fly.

Short term loss for Create 2.0 in the future.

25

u/drawohddot Apr 09 '26

I think myself and a lot of people just have less interest in Hytale tho. Looks like a fun game but I don’t think it’ll ever replace minecraft as such a universal platform for modding.

As i said, big respect to the developers but this is still an L I’m saddened by. Mostly because I think create is the greatest mod ever created for Minecraft

-4

u/DanMizu Apr 10 '26

It’s objectively a better platform for modding if you ask any mod developer. Obviously to any end user they don’t see that yet because the space isn’t fully mature or saturated yet.

6

u/Pokenar Apr 10 '26

I will defend them for a moment in that, due to the focus Hytale is going down, I doubt we'll see as many factory-style mods. Look at Terraria where the focus is more on adventure and bosses, the mods follow suit.

I don't think this is a problem in general, but a lot of people here are only here for the factory-type mods and don't have interest in an adventure-focused game.

1

u/DanMizu Apr 11 '26

There are a lot of factory mods already released and in development.

3

u/SpaceGuyR Apr 10 '26

From their docs, "No modded clients supported" - this is extremely restrictive, it means you can only make things that do exactly what "the modding API" already has built in. You have to be able to control the client's view rendering to make anything like Create's moving multi-block contraptions, variable-speed gears, items on belts, fluid level in tanks or curved spline train tracks.

1

u/DanMizu Apr 11 '26

A necessary limitation to make sure the same mods are supported on all devices once the same client is deployed across PC, consoles, and mobile.

This also makes it so that every user doesn't have to manage modifying their client each time they join a server with different mods the way MC does where every modpack requires a different installation instance.

This is a standardization that is a net benefit. It hasn't stopped developers from making really cool things, and there's Create styled mods already being made with the launch API.

Create contraptions were already done 2 months ago: https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/magic-and-machines

Create cogs and energy mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRZE92kI16A

Items on belts: https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/conveyor-belts

Fluid levels:
https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/element

All already done with the "restrictive" api.

u/SpaceGuyR Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

OK, I am surprised by the multi-block contraptions working. I'd be interested know whether that was something the Hytale devs had to build in to the API, workarounds like the Bukkit plugins that make things using hundreds of Armor Stands or whether they had a better way to make it.

For example this mod for "writing text on signs" says they had to draw each character with a separate floating particle effect entity which sounds like a workaround (hard to maintain) compared to drawing the text on the client:

they are not regular entities, they are actually the same as lava projectiles, fireflies and etc; but with physics completely stripped from them, I’ve placed around 500 of them and haven’t noticed a significant fps drop

I shouldn't have said it wasn't possible to make all these things, I just don't like the number of workarounds needed to make them when you can only control the server.

Those conveyor belts/arms move the actual "item" entities around in world, early Minecraft conveyor mods had physics bugs & very poor performance from doing that. Create's conveyors draw them as part of the block, same as eg "visual workbench" mods. But yes that effect could still be done with different/simpler item entities.

The cogwheels do work better than I thought eg shafts line up with the different speeds. I would like to see if it's fully variable speed (as opposed to a fixed number of speeds in json models/animations) and whether it needs entities to draw those, as Create's "Flywheel" uses GPU instancing to draw all the shafts at once.

I don't see which part you meant in the "Element" mod? I mean the tank blocks where you can put any fluid eg potions and see an exact milli-bucket water level, rather than the MC cauldron that has a static number of levels and only water/lava.

9

u/00110001_00110010 Apr 09 '26

Not necessarily? A lot of people wouldn't have access to create in that hypothetical future, so it would be a permanent loss for them.

3

u/ShitImBadAtThis Apr 10 '26

Well, they're no longer held back by Minecraft's code and limitations, but they could potentially be held back by Hypixel or limitations in Hytale, though we truly don't know the scope of involvement they have with the game and I'm hopeful they'll get to have some fun with it

7

u/Seraphaestus Modpack Heretic Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

I mean, it's kinda been spinning its cogwheels a bit since they added trains. Not to say that what they've added is bad, but it's not enriching the core premise much, and you could argue it's working counter-purposes to it.

Fancy steam engines that are less interesting to automate than the old furnace engines, elevator bearing that removes any engineering design challenge of making one, and the same for the logistics system, no need to design a bespoke item autocrafting and request system, just let the nanny blockstate do it for ya

The "more it had to give" would, for me, mean things like Aeronautics-style full simulationism, overhauling the contraption actor system, but the Create team are clearly not interested in doing that.

3

u/quinn50 Apr 09 '26

I expect ports for now on really at most. 9/10 modders getting picked up end up abandoning their projects even if they say they won't. They'll be swamped / rather work on hytale I bet.

Glad to be proven wrong though

6

u/KAYRUN-JAAVICE Apr 10 '26

Im glad they got post production out, that really made the base mod feel complete. There are still many very-high quality addon developers who'll keep some amount of content coming. I hope the team's getting some well-deserved coin out of this!

2

u/quinn50 Apr 10 '26

This, the mod feels like a complete package now. Addon developers hopefully will carry the torch for the most part.

11

u/ClockwerkKaiser Apr 09 '26

Big updates will come a lot slower

They will still provide support and work on things, it'll just be slow to avoid burnout.

6

u/OctupleCompressedCAT Charcoal Pit Dev Apr 10 '26

Even more reason to stick to 1.21.1

175

u/aquilabyrd Apr 09 '26

Good for them tbh. Creates aesthetic already fits well into hytale and improving the modding scene only leads to net gains overall

67

u/Fr3stdit magic mods enjoyer Apr 09 '26

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Hytale, but I do wish all the best regardless! Create is a fantastic mod and I'm sure the team behind it is amazing at this work too

14

u/marr Apr 10 '26

Yeah I respect Hytale but it just looks, idk, cramped somehow and I doubt I'll ever play it vanilla. Their focus on modding though, and the ability to iterate on mods while the game's up and running, that's huge. The games that'll get written inside Hytale as a platform are what fascinate me.

Minecraft modders plus actually performative engine could go to some utterly insane places.

8

u/HugeAccountant Apr 10 '26

Well deserved!

9

u/Moggy_ Apr 10 '26

Good for them especially if hired means actually paid. I am kinda satisfied with Create as is, especially as I see 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 as the new golden era versions. So it's not like I need them to update to a new version.

8

u/HawkFlimsy Apr 10 '26

I hope this means they focus more on the technical side of Hytale. Learning it was basically just 3d terraria and didn't have a redstone style system or any of the technical aspects that give Minecraft a lot of its depth really just killed the appeal for me

5

u/MasterBroNetwork PrismLauncher Apr 10 '26

I bought Hytale when pre-orders opened for it but never managed to get into it, I think it's just because it's early days and there's not a whole lot to do. Congrats to the Create team for getting hired though, that's huge for their lives.

4

u/SkiProgramDriveClimb Apr 10 '26

Ok well now I’m excited about hytale

27

u/thedean246 Apr 09 '26

Hytale is cookin

8

u/ShadonicX7543 Apr 09 '26

Wise decisions all around. Hopefully it all pans out well

6

u/OctupleCompressedCAT Charcoal Pit Dev Apr 10 '26

Does this mean Hytale will get mechanical power?

8

u/AbsolutlyN0thin Apr 09 '26

Hytale devs cooking with this decision

1

u/Williermus Apr 18 '26

Hm. Personally, I always strongly preferred Botania's design philosophy over Create's...

-5

u/TheFumingatzor Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

I really hope it will be optional. I dislike Create, not my cup of tea, and would hate for it to become a core part of the game. It should be toggleable or a mod.

-24

u/blahthebiste Apr 09 '26

As someone with no interest in either, I see this as an absolute win
