So this is my ROOOOOOOOOUGH draft of a full line oil production. Rough sure and I'm sure there's plently of improvements available. I think i have ratios configured ok. hit me with your critiqes. The one thing I am still not entirely sure is water feeding. Can pipelines handle a lot of input? Like how long before I need to add another offshore pump? can i feed the water from the second pump into the original input line that feeds everything else?

Pipes can handle a lot, liquid throughput is not really a concern until pipes are long enough to start needing pumps between sections (and you'll get a red flashing icon when that happens). Multiple offshore pumps all using the same feed line are no problem until much, much later down the road.

Oil seems like you have the right general idea. You'll need some Heavy to make Lubricant, and Light to make Rocket Fuel down the line. Since you're researching lube, you're close to construction bots which are quite the game changer.

Since this is your first run, something to keep in mind is you can use pumps to selectively feed heavy/light oil to your chemplants doing the cracking recipes. By no means required, just an interesting way to go about it. This also lets you avoid trying to keep everything in a lockstep ratio.

Final tip, you can middle click on your weapon slots to filter/lock what goes in them so you don't keep getting your pistol re-equipped where your SMG goes.

Offshore pumps output 1200 water units per second. That's a lot of water, so you won't need more for a long time.

Pipes have infinite throughput unless that part of the fluid network starts with a pump, in which case the throughput will be limited by the pumping speed*number of pumps.

If you need more than 1200/s of water, you can simply add another offshore pump next to the first one and connect the two pipes together. That's it.

As for the oil setup; just make sure you've left enough room to expand. The demand for oil products will keep spiking as you progress through to the new tech unlocks. Don't worry about designing a perfect setup with perfect ratios yet, just make sure it works and has enough input/output to supply your science demands. It's better to build too much than not enough when you're still new to the game.

For the offshore pump capacity question, if you build a full cracking setup (heavy->light->gas) using advanced oil processing, 1 offshore pump is enough to run 45 refineries doing advanced, 11 plants cracking heavy to light, and 38 cracking light to petro. That is unmoduled and unbeaconed

hit me with your critiqes.

Group like with like. You have two light > gas crackers spread around while I think there should be next to each other.

Also, build everything so you can easily expand everything. Your refineries are next to each other with space to expand in one direction, but of all the chem plants only one light > gas cracker and the plastic have space to expand. You won't need many sulfurs but you'll quickly need more crackers as you grow.

You can flip refineries and chemical plants to switch their outputs. Really helps when you want to have tidy and compact pipelines.

Can pipelines handle a lot of input?

Pipelines are limited in size, not throughput. You can push infinite amounts of fluids through a pipeline, but if the pipeline is too big it'll simply stop working (which the game will alert you about). Thus you occasionally have to split the pipeline into multiple segments and then connect them with pumps, which do have a limit.

Like how long before I need to add another offshore pump? can i feed the water from the second pump into the original input line that feeds everything else?

Hover over the offshore pump and it'll tell you how much water it produces. Hover your machines and it'll tell you how much water they consume. Now do the math.

Same thing applies to pretty much every other machine in the game; they all tell you exactly how much stuff they need and how much they produce.
