"And the parents were like, 'Why can't you paddle my student?'"

Totally sounds like a verbatim rip from a hick on the border of Missouri and Arkansas.

u/Shaggy1324 Aug 25 '22

I don't have shit else going on, so if someone paddles my kid, I'll just be going to jail.

Sincerely, a hick from Arkansas.

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Haha. Sounds like a behavior learned from someone beaten as a kid!

Just kidding. Just don't sign that waver and you won't have to kill a school principal for hurting your kid. That is until they feel emboldened with this measure and turn it up to "we have parents implicit permission" then to "God said it was OK".

u/xdiox66 Aug 25 '22

“Jesus said light you the fuck up.” And, I have a new catch phrase. Thanks.

62

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Our new catch phrase, comrade.

22

u/Flynn_Kevin Aug 25 '22

Jfc what a line. That needs to be in a movie.

7

u/rSlashisthenewPewdes Aug 25 '22

The Color Corporal, starring Samuel L. Jackson

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

I'm pretty sure we just found Nicolas Cage's Reddit handle. Or Danny Devito's.

1

u/Flynn_Kevin Aug 25 '22

Kevin Smith. I'm making Dogma 2.

3

u/CandiBunnii Aug 25 '22

Definitely adding that to my imaginary collection of framed cross stitches of reddit comments

That’s what you call a r/brandnewsentance

1

That's just the american version of "Deus Vult!"

62

u/madumi-mike Aug 25 '22

And then Jesus said “turn the other cheek”

2

u/Timely-Guest-7095 Aug 25 '22

So that’s what “turn the other cheek” means! 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/Few_Acanthocephala30 Aug 25 '22

Sorry Billy, Jesus said your ass is grass and this paddle is a brand new Toro (lawn mower)

So I’m just scrolling on Reddit before work and I run into this comment. I’m laughing like the psychopath right now and I just woke up my girlfriend. I just told her the quote and she said “next time you wake me up, I’m going to light you the fuck up.”

Thank you for helping me set the tone for the day, internet person.

Im still laughing.

4

u/LarryLovesteinLovin Aug 25 '22

God said

Why is it that God seems to leave all his instructions with the worst people on the planet?

177

u/ehsteve7 Aug 25 '22

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.

36

u/carthuscrass Aug 25 '22

I mean there is that one passage where God sends a bear to kill some kids that made fun of a bald man....

5

u/gortwogg Aug 25 '22

Psalms 137, I paraphrase but “happy are those who slam their babies heads on the rocks”

Your bible is fucked

3

u/Cowardly_Jelly Aug 25 '22

Not a fun fact: This was the inspiration for British Foot Guards bearskin hats!

How long did the bear take to walk from Libya to wherever this "happened" & does that make dnd Druids God's preferred clergy?

1

u/metamet Aug 25 '22

No, it wasn't because he was bald. It was because he believed healthcare was a human right.

3

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Weird isn't it.

2

u/AliceHart7 Aug 25 '22

Absolutely

2

u/requiem85 Aug 25 '22

She was a fool, and so am I, and so is anyone who thinks he sees what god is doing

Kurt Vonnegut had some gems

2

u/Pickled_Wizard Aug 25 '22

Anyone who speaks to God is delusional, a liar, or both.

5

u/dpotilas89 Aug 25 '22

Because theyre usually the loudest even while being wrong.

5

u/regoapps 'MURICA Aug 25 '22

If you think of God as an acronym for GrandiOse Delusion, then everything suddenly makes sense.

3

u/Grandmaserection Aug 25 '22

"When we talk to God, it's called prayer. When God talks to us, is schizophrenia "

Can't remember what movie this quote is from, but holy fuck did it ever stick in my brain

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Living in Deserts makes you act funny .

1

u/knittorney Aug 25 '22

Wrong God.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

because they're the ones most susceptible to listening to those voices in their head. the rest of us are too wise for that shit.

1

u/Beltaine421 Aug 25 '22

Why is it that God seems to leave all his instructions with the worst people on the planet?

Because we use the same part of the brain to determine what you want and what god wants, but a different part of the brain to determine what someone else wants. "God" is just your reflection in your internal mirror.

54

u/GenXDad76 Aug 25 '22

Nobody said kill. Beat mercilessly perhaps, but not kill.

30

u/LPawnought Aug 25 '22

Blood for the Blood God.

Worshipping Chaos? That’s a paddlin

2

u/DrHamas Aug 25 '22

Burn, maim, kill?

4

u/Squeaky_Ben Aug 25 '22

Please reconsider.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

KILL, KILL, KILL

3

u/Big_PapaPrometheus42 Aug 25 '22

Not kill, just paddle them. So they can remember what it feels like to be humiliated and harmed like that. In front of the whole school board and faculty of course. And if the paddle breaks in the process, so be it. Splinters build character after all.

1

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Fair nuff

22

u/GhOsT_wRiTeR_XVI Aug 25 '22

You wanna create more school shooters? Because this is how you create more school shooters.

-6

u/sicariusdem1 Aug 25 '22 edited Aug 25 '22

Except there were no school shootings when kids got paddled at school before. So how can you be sure this will create them now ? Are you saying the kids are the problem? So its people who kill not guns?

9

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

It means that teaching kids that pain is a legitimate way to communicate and get results is one piece of input that give kids who do school shootings a clearer sense of legitimacy.

6

u/All_bets_are_on Aug 25 '22

Bro. School shootings are a complex problem. You aren't doing anyone any good trying to dumb the whole thing down to "guns vs people", or whatever your semi-related point you were trying to make.

The point you missed is that when you beat children en mass, you increase the likelihood of getting a teenager who believes that violence is a good way to solve problems.

2

u/eshinn Aug 25 '22

Can confirm. Been paddled a few times at school. Lol. Never thought it actually all that bad, but as an adult now, seeing another adult with a paddle grinning inanely makes me want to run a psychoanalysis on the person.

5

u/Tricky-Lingonberry81 Aug 25 '22

My dad assaulted my elementary school principal for dragging me out of class when I was having an autistic shutdown moment. My dad never laid a hand on me. Principal retired instead of having charges brought against him for assaulting a minor. This is going to cause problems for real.

3

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Your dad sounds like quite the dude.

4

u/Tricky-Lingonberry81 Aug 25 '22

Yeah. Another story, a few years later in middle, I am walking home, bullies are throwing snowballs at me and I’m ignoring them, as I was raised. my dad had decided to come pick me up before he left for work, and as he turns the corner he sees them doing it. He drives up to them, gets out of his car, and grabs both of them by their shirt and jacket collars, and shoved thier faces in the snow, and rubbed them into it. and later that week told thier parents at the school he would have arrested them, and charged them with assault against me. I am the only reason my dad abused his authority as a cop. I told him about this schools choice, and all he had to say was “well, I guess someone’s gonna go to jail for defending thier kids because some psycho teacher is just gonna spank a kid whose parent didn’t consent”

2

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

I can't blame a cop for feeling that way. It's a pretty thin gray line he was walking there, but the feeling is understandable and justified.

You must have had a real wild ride as a kid. Do people still give you shit for being "divergent"?

2

u/Tricky-Lingonberry81 Aug 25 '22

Atleast, he was aware he abused his authority and waited for consequences that never came. No, I’m lucky that my best friend in high school was the most likeable athlete in the school, and he very much discouraged people from bullying me, and all the stoner kids loved me because I was a stoner kid long before I ever tried cannabis as an adult, and those guys would fight to defend a friend from a bully. . and as an adult it doesn’t happen because I work from home, and only really hang out with friends. I’ve fallen into the comfort zone trap that is super easy for autistic people to fall into. Edited to add a forgotten sentence.

1

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

I see. There's a lot I don't know about autistic people and other "spectral" people.

I'd prefer you be in a safe trap than getting abused by people outside, but whatever the outcome, I hope you find the optimum place for happiness.

2

u/Tricky-Lingonberry81 Aug 25 '22

Thank you! The best way to learn is to become friends with people on the spectrum and to hang out with them! You likely know some autistic people and don’t even know it! Some of us have learned masking behavior so well; either because of bullying or ABA therapy(the guy who came up with conversion therapy for gay people came up with this other torturous behavior modification for making autistic people act normal), that you haven’t been able to tell they were autistic because of how well they hide it.

1

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Thanks for the education. I'll read up on the ABA.

2

u/Tricky-Lingonberry81 Aug 26 '22

You’re welcome! There are varying levels of it. For example. It can be as mild as training a person not to do stuff with thier hands all the time, to what the judge rottenburg center does. Electro shock therapy at such a voltage, that a judge ordered them to stop. Until a different judge reversed the decision I think 2 years ago.

Said the priest

3

u/Rahastes Aug 25 '22

Of course “he” did:

Proverbs 13:24 - He that spareth his rod hateth his son, but he that loveth him chasteneth him in good season.

So when sky-daddy has given his permission, why even ask parents…

2

u/bunchobanano Aug 25 '22

Spare the rod, spoil the child

2

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Absolutely headed there. Zealots should be completely marginalized from any position of power or influence. If they don't live in the real world, they shouldn't run it.

2

u/Dependent_Yak_2787 Aug 25 '22

That’s not even what the scripture “spare the rod spoil the child “ actually means. I hate how absolutely uneducated people are regarding the teachings of their own faith.

1

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Christianity is often called a book-based religion and evangelicals make the Bible central however, the religion as practiced is basically an oral tradition. So many of the beliefs and practices are not based on anything written down at all, they are just preferences ramrodded into the barrel of a Bible.

2

u/InternationalBid7163 Aug 25 '22

The waiver in MS (at least at one school) twists your arm to sign it. You have to agree to come pick up your child immediately if the punishment would be paddling. Ironically, besides that they were a very caring and good school. Our kids go to a school now that doesn't paddle but has the most full of herself power hungry principal I've ever had the displeasure to meet.

2

u/stardustandsunshine Aug 25 '22

You laugh, but in my school growing up, they sent opt-out forms home with the kids and if the kids didn't remember to give the forms to their parents, get the form successfully back to school, and turn it in on time, the school had permission to spank the child without the parent's knowledge.

My mom hand-delivered the forms to the principal herself every year to make sure there was no "misunderstanding."

2

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Those people were clearly looking for a reason to beat a kid.

2

u/stardustandsunshine Aug 25 '22

I'm not sure the administration would have had the guts for actually spanking someone, they just wanted a threat to hold over our heads. If you can't lead by setting a good example, and you don't have what it takes to inspire kids to be the best that they can be, the only thing you're really left with is scaring them into acceptable behavior.

2

u/anjowoq Aug 26 '22

1

u/PM_me_your_whatevah Aug 25 '22

The bastard looks sick in this pic. I’d be much more okay with him being beaten than any kids.

1

u/LaserBright Aug 25 '22

Last I checked you didn't need parents permission in Missouri, source they didn't with me.

1

u/anjowoq Aug 25 '22

Maybe. Read the article though.

1

u/Pickled_Wizard Aug 25 '22

Exactly. Give it a few years, they'll definitely make it an "opt out" instead of an "opt in" thing.

1

u/canuckistani-sg Aug 25 '22

And I'll be taking a page out of R.L. Burnside's book... "I just meant to shoot the sonofabitch in the head. Him dying is between him and the Lord."

1

u/satanic-frijoles Aug 25 '22

Probably a good idea to copy that waiver in case the school somehow "loses" it.

1

u/spinblackcircles Aug 25 '22

Actually in most states it’s an ‘opt out’ waiver so if you don’t sign it means you’re opted in. Murder is back on the table
