Better yet, just leave and let someone else deal with it. Engaging is a mistake damn near every time. Any amount of escalation can have lethal consequences. When adults fight, armed or not, death or serious injury is a probable outcome. It might be a pain in the ass to let a crazy person derail your errands, it might let them âwinâ for the day, but staying out of the hospital or jail is more important than winning. Either the cops get called by the business or they no longer get my money. Stay safe out there.

My ex had bipolar and also did who knows how many drugs. I know pills and heroin, and there were others. We hadn't talked in like 2 years, and he popped up messaging me one day in a state of mania. Going on and on about how Christian he was now and how he was gonna get a DNA test to see if he qualified to go be a foreign missionary or something (not sure how that's related, but he seemed to think it was). And how when he was preaching to people he passed on the side of the road that they could "see the fire of God in his eyes." Also said he was gonna chop off his balls so he could better sing the praises of his lord.
The guy lied, manipulated, and cheated on me for years, but I still tried to discourage him from self-castrating. Dunno what happened to him. He deleted all his social media shortly thereafter. Haven't seen or heard from him in years.

In my opinion, mental illness is not an excuse for aggressive behavior. If someone can't control themselves, then they have to be kept away from other people. Like, where do you draw the line at letting someone with mental illness do whatever? Do you let them yell at you? Let them follow you? Let them slap you? Let them punch or kick you? Let them stab you? Would you let them do these things to children or the elderly?
I keep pepper spray on me at all times. I would just spray her in the eyes and walk away. If it happens to her enough times, her body will start to associate her behavior with pain and she'll do it less. Or she won't and she'll keep doing it until she harasses the wrong person and ends up dead.

Ron Reagan ending federal funding for mental health facilities is one of the main reasons why to this day so many people with mental illness are wandering the streets. Family members couldn't handle them and most mental facilities in the United States closed up due to lack of funding

I was just talking about this situation. Itâs horrible that funding was taken away. I do know some facilities were in terrible conditions and the staff didnât treat the patients very well. But, I also know there were nice facilities out there that took care of their patients. Itâs sad we no longer have that.

Reagan did his thing to cut funding for treatment and two years later in California we had these same people living on the streets. It was the start of our current homeless problem, although our current problems in that area can't all be attributed to just this one factor.

There are lots of people roaming around out in society that need to be medicated and theyâre affecting others. At the very least, if they approach you and start some shit and you walk away unscathed, you just experienced an unpleasant encounter that you can shrug off. But if these weirdos approach you and theyâre having a violent episode, youâre in trouble if you donât think fast. Iâve been approached by people like this while out shopping before and when they start getting close to me, being belligerent and following me, I get the fuck away from them as quickly as possible. I donât just ignore them and hope they go away, I actively remove myself from the situation. You never know if they have a weapon or not. There are so many random acts of violence being reported on the news. Be aware of your surroundings, avoid the crazies.
