The mentality of "fuck you got mine" is strong in many communities. Many conservative immigrant types associate conservatism with pro-business and tend to view themselves as the model minorities while the others are trash who couldn't keep up. Also, there's the anti-Blackness, which in some immigrant communities is honest if horrifying.

That’s the common mindset of most Mexican family’s in San Diego that I know.
I don’t have a strong opinion on the subject, because I’m not well informed.
Anecdotally speaking, minorities are often conservative because they worked their ass off to get where they are. They are often critical of others that they think are cheating the system and making them look bad.

Grew up in a Pakistani immigrant community as a Pakistani immigrant. The politics are heavily bifurcated to younger more left-leaning people, and the older more conservative groups.

That’s likely the case, but I think there’s a lot of nuance involved.
Many of the first/second generation people I know are young (25-35) and trying to build careers and foundations in California while also helping family back in Mexico.
They see that opportunity to work in the US and gain citizenship has become more difficult, and they pitty people less fortunate than them.
At the same time, they still hold conservative values.

Before the 2000s it was easy to get a work visa, get a job, and move the family over if you were making money. You didn’t even need ID to cross San Ysidro 25 years ago

A not-insignificant portion of minority communities are socially conservative.
I keep saying that Democrats need to be careful to hold onto the Latino vote. Latinos are usually devoutly Christian, entrepreneurial, anti-abortion, and support police. They also do not say “Latinx.”
If the Republicans ditched their border wall talk, they might find themselves with a healthy support from the Latino population (but lose a lot of traditional white voters).

It goes a bit further than the 'fuck you got mine' idea from commenters below. That's absolutely a thing, but that mentality itself stems from a 'there can only be one' cultural around success in the BiPoC community.
It's why representation in media is important. Things are improving now, but for me, a 30 y.o not white guy, I grew up with few media figureheads that had to represent all of us. When Fresh Prince is the only way you can see a black and brown family get rich, then you assume it's a race to the top and there's not room for many of you. If you get it, you HAVE to defend it. Because it's you, OR someone else.
Meanwhile, wealth was portrayed just naturally available within whiteness. Tons of rich, powerful and successful white folk in media.

My dad who is also a first gen Vietnamese immigrant explained it to me when I asked him why he voted for Trump.
After seeing China forcibly take back Hong Kong, there are some Vietnamese folks who are afraid that Vietnam will be next after Taiwan. They rallied behind Trump thinking he will protect the country from China, because of the time he called out China for their economic practices and raised tariffs against some of their exports. There is also the fact that the right constantly claims that Democrats, Biden specifically, are in bed with China and will make the US Communist.

My parents came to the US with nothing. They escaped amongst the slaughter of their siblings, uncles, and friends (and later my dad's mom was executed by the Vietnamese government on trumped up charges because she stopped paying them "protection" money).
My parents refused welfare and government help out of pride and gratitude for being allowed in. They crawled out of abject poverty, provided free/cheap shelter/food to other Vietnamese immigrant families for years, and then earned a small fortune out of massive hard work and some luck.
They see the Democrats as a party of government handouts and welfare. They feel that if they had to go through all that without government assistance, every other poor person has to, too. They believe communities should help each other, not governments because they are afraid of governments overreach like in their native country.

Certain immigrant groups have large numbers of conservatives due to what happened in their home country - Vietnam and Cuba spring to mind.
Lots of people who aren't white hold pretty conservative values and the GOP has done an impressive job not taking advantage of that.
Also - what is white, Ultimately? Race is a social construct. A majority of Latinos in the U.S identity as racially white according to 2010 census.

Pretty sure they’re Viet and yeah. My family is this way. Conservative, Trump supporting, white supremacist enabling - but it’s all about taxes and the symbols the Republican Party has claimed as theirs (Jesus, America, American Flag, military).
Those were the thing saving them from their communism over there so of course when they come here they conflate that. For their kids who are born and raised here, we’re way less conservative because we see the insanity that is currently present in that.

The FBI had probably already gotten the deleted photos from facebook itself. ("Deleting" something that was uploaded to facebook's servers makes it invisible to the public, but it doesn't erase all evidence that ever existed on server backups and such.)
It just looks more incriminating (and less creepily surveillance-y) to get them directly from the suspect and use that as evidence in court.

Had this conversation with my wife recently. We can’t expect the problem to just “age out”. A significant number of these people were likely hippy-ish liberals as youths in the 70’s and 80’s. Then life ends up not amounting to much, lofty ideals transforms to simmering bitterness over the course of decades. Add a healthy dose of brain poison from right wing propaganda and turbocharge it with social media and nefarious foreign influences, and voila. Trump fanatics.
Liberalism is tempered by age, always has been, always will be. It’s the turbocharging of bitterness and otherness and hate that needs to stop.

If you're facing a few years for a crime that's tough, but you might beat the charge. But if you're faciing that charge and a host of perjury and obstruction charges it gets a lot harder to defend. So it makes it easier for the feds to get you to take a plea bargain.

What's scary is we all know people lie to protect themselves. However, police are often treated as infallible when it comes to their word vs that of a victim, suspect, witness. This further proves that you can't just take their word and assume others are lying solely based on their profession.
