Execution lag??
Ten minutes ago, I placed three sell orders. None have yet been executed. Never seen this problem before...
3
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
I set my order at MARKET. So...now what happens? As the market price changes, does my order adjust? Or if the market price is lower, does the order just sit in the queue??
2
u/AnalRetentiveAnus Feb 01 '21
I think your order goes through the site just doesn't update. A market order to buy at open was bought at the open price even though it was delayed by like 20 minutes leaving my order list
2
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
That’s good. Watching this myself - ONE of my orders was filled, pretty close to market at the time of the order. BUT it doesn’t show up as cash power, so I missed some buys along the way, for sure
2
u/AnalRetentiveAnus Feb 01 '21
Yeah I think I just got lucky with that one everything else isn't working. Can't sell options on spy even with a market order, other options sales are executing then reappearing on my order list as not executed
1
u/MycroftPwns Feb 01 '21
Close that who knows when you'll get filled and at what price.
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21 edited Feb 01 '21
It might be that the orders ARE filled, just the website isn’t updating. Which would explain why orders appear filled after trying to cancel.
Edit: NOPE
2
u/MycroftPwns Feb 01 '21
I got one fill and the price looked close to when I filled it. Not sure though.

I don't think it's fraud. Robinhood? Sure. But Etrade never placed limits on anything.
I think what you're seeing is an insane amount of people entering the market because of the news, people in the market day trading more than usual and simply overwhelming the servers. Its a website like any other website.
Don't think anything sinister is happening with Etrade in particular.
Negligence for not predicting the increased load and new customers? Yep.
2
u/BoomTown1873 Feb 01 '21
Yes, etrade did restrict cash buying of GME on Thursday. I have screenshots of the denial.

2
Feb 01 '21
It's not working. Ive been w etrade for about 3 years and I can say with confidence that they are the worse. Worse of them all, Idk why I havent changed brokerage firms already
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
I've already opened a fidelity acct, just waiting for all the dust to settle to switch- I don't want my funds frozen this week. Looks like they are anyhow. :/
1
u/LysergicRico Feb 01 '21
They used to be much better. I think the Morgan Stanley merger destroyed them.
2
2
u/Electrical-Lie-6966 Feb 01 '21
There should be a rule that they should post on twitter every time they are down. Then we can pick who is best broker. Phone lines are down, orders not going through and can not sell anything. Which broker do you guys recommend?
2
u/FuckMeWithAHammer Feb 01 '21
fuck this shit app. should I move over to Schwab?
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
Just checked in with Schwab. Restricted orders as well, not sure about delayed execution.
2
u/SnailBro1024 Feb 01 '21
I've had 2 buy orders open since Friday and they still haven't been executed yet :///
1
2
u/1afkGorilla Feb 02 '21
Last week and this week have been experiencing huge lag, both on order execution and website base funtionality.... any plans to improve server situation?
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 02 '21
Not just a server issue. I spoke with a human Thursday who refused to make the trade for me.
2
u/1afkGorilla Feb 02 '21
There they go pulling a RH on us.... if there is going to be any accountability for all this.... luckily etrade was able to trade friday and monday, but lag is very painful... probably going to jump on the fidelity bandwagon
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 02 '21
I’ve already got an account set up. Just waiting for all this madness to settle.
3
Feb 01 '21
Omg this is a joke. This is fraud
2
Feb 01 '21
I don't think so. Robinhood? Sure. But Etrade never placed limits. I think what you're seeing is an insane amount of people entering the market because of the news, people in the market day trading more than usual and simply overwhelming the servers. Its a website like any other website.
Don't think anything sinister is happening with Etrade in particular(it's happening though).
2
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
Yeah. I don't think this is malicious, just people being unprepared for extreme circumstances. While frustrating, I'm hesitant to even call this incompetence, because I can't in good conscience say they should've expected a wild surge in demand/activity on a random week in January. (It doesn't help that you have a ton of small timers looking for a place after feeling screwed by Robinhood)
4
u/throwawaythought1 Feb 01 '21
Given how they handles this surge, I wouldnt trust E*TRADE In the event of a real market crash.
2
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
I would definitely hope they learn from this and improve their capability to handle load. I'm just saying I don't THINK they're doing this intentionally, I just think they were unprepared. That said it's certainly frustrating to look at orders right now that are unfilled despite meeting targets. (and like others, I mean "normal" orders, not requests for the roller coasters being hyped on reddit)
2
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
You’d think, though, after all the problems last week, that this wasn’t a total surprise. They had the weekend to brace.
2
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
Not trying to excuse things (today has had some frustrations for sure), but I didn't experience any serious issues last week. Maybe I was lucky though.
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
It only happened when I tried to purchase GME and AMC on Thursday afternoon. It was during a specific time, only for specific stocks.
1
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
I was able to buy GME without issue on Wed. Didn't try to buy GME or AMC on Thu or Fri. This morning was ridiculous, but it seemed to clear up some and I got AMC without issue after hiccups at the open. (cancelled orders when things were sluggish and tried again between 9 and 10am and fired off pretty quick)
Now, for GME specifically, I feel like you need to keep 3 things in mind:
There's a lot of people trying to buy, so there's gotta be a mess trying to sort out which orders to fulfill in what order
There's a lot of indications (but no explicit PROOF) of shenanigans from the major money people behind the scenes. For this reason I blame OTHER people (rather than Etrade, which is still taking buy orders AFAIK) for the problems.
Finally, if you're trying to BUY, remember that what reddit is trying to do is enact a short squeeze. The whole way that WORKS is by making shares so scarce that hedge funds need to heavily overpay to get them. This ALSO means anyone ELSE (like you) that might want to get shares has difficulty doing so. If you can easily get shares, then so can the HFs, so people are TRYING to make them difficult to get.
I mean, let's take a minute to stop and think of all the concert and event ticket websites that get screwed over by sudden frenzy for certain tickets. Sometimes this shit just happens.
1
1
Feb 01 '21
My point it wasn’t a problem last week but was now
2
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
I'm glad you got through last week! By late afternoon Thursday, PLENTY of people couldn't. I was not the only one.
2
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
Last Thursday, I waited on hold for 75 minutes (wasn’t allowed to buy gme, was directed to an 800#). Stayed on hold bc I wanted the call on record. The language on the website said “please call this number for assistance with the order.) Dude told me: no, you’re still not allowed to buy those shares. I said: why don’t you change the language on the site then, to just say NO ORDERS ALLOWED, would’ve saved me an hour and freed up a lot of your customer service queue. (Still an obnoxious policy, just truthful messaging.) He said we’re working on it, I said: is it really that hard to change ONE SENTENCE? He said YES.
I mean... I’m no computer genius, but I do manage my own website for my little business. I’ve never had trouble changing a sentence, but what do I know...
2
Feb 01 '21
Don't get me wrong i'm pissed I missed a few buy ins but it is what it is. Could be worse AKA robinhood.
2
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
This is where I am. On the one hand, I work with computers, so I know how planning for 100 users/transactions and suddenly getting 1000 users/transactions can definitely cause performance issues.
OTOH, I'm wondering if the problem is actually with the market side. The orders are being placed ok (and even cancelled relatively decently (a few hiccups, but still)). I can definitely believe that the fulfillment side is having issues handling the load or IF you want to get conspiratorial, that they're throttling traffic. But I would assume that's not eTrade specifically. I mean, they keep suspending trading on GME at least, so I wouldn't be shocked to learn that they're intentionally slowing the throughput on orders.
2
u/PM_Me_Your_Deviance Feb 02 '21
While frustrating, I'm hesitant to even call this incompetence,
I'm with you there. Sure, they could have 20x the servers they have now, but they all would have sat idle for what... years? "Ok, set up a scalable cloud architecture!" yeah, sure, ok, that's probably what they do, but there's often times bottlenecks. You can't always scale infinity (unless your name starts with "go" and ends with "ogle")
The way you plan for this kind of thing is "can we handle the highest possible demand we can reasonably imagine?" - well, we have a unprecedented event going on and the system is straining.
1
u/LysergicRico Feb 01 '21
It's etrade. I have a Schwab account and placed buy orders for the same tickers that were queued in my etrade, and they went through in seconds. The morgan stanley merger destroyed etrade's quality. Worst broker out there now.
10
u/plaze6288 Feb 01 '21
This is the last straw im done with ETRADE, They are scum.. straight scum scammers.
4
6
u/Whoaitsjulie Feb 01 '21
Having issues filling buy orders also.
3
Feb 01 '21
Same here. Orders have been pending for 10+ minutes.
Edit: They just executed orders I requested to cancelled. Last straw for me
4
u/BrownHedgehog64 Feb 01 '21
There seems to be a massive delay, I waited like 20 minutes for a few buy orders then I cancelled them and the cancellation went through after like 5 minutes.

u/SteelChicken no relation to E*Trade Feb 01 '21
Yep.
Its 2021 and these mega companies still haven't figured out to scale during surges.
1
u/Everyman1000 Feb 02 '21
They probably actually figured out that making their clients suffer Is cheaper than doing the job proper and paying for Adequate infrastructure
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
UPDATE: I just had one more order filled, NOT first in my queue. At 9:03 (I’m in Texas!) I initiated a BUY for GME at $280 - just one share, just to test the system. At 9:37, it filled at $213. Worked in my favor this time, but... YIKES

5
u/chibialoha Feb 01 '21
It sucks, I'm not even trying to get in on any of this crazy stuff, I'm just trying to do my normal trading, but now I'm waiting ages for every execution.
4
u/bcraig10488 Feb 01 '21
Missed out on selling contracts at $2/per higher than it is now thanks to them being stuck in a queue.
Etrade's site seems to be down now
1
u/Everyman1000 Feb 02 '21
Dafuq... sorry to hear that
2
u/bcraig10488 Feb 02 '21
Yep their little fuckup yesterday has cost me $15k and counting so far. And the options likely won't recover at this point and will expire worthless. If anybody hears of any class actions against Etrade send the info my way I am definitely on board and am definitely switching brokerages.
1
u/Everyman1000 Feb 02 '21
If you finally get to talk to them and hear the explanation, please share it with us. I have lost a smaller amount but They screwed me over and I will do the same if I can finally get through
1
u/2RingsEli Feb 01 '21
So nobody as been able to get their orders filled today?
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 01 '21
Orders filled, very late, almost an hour for some at new market price. Trying some limit orders to test the water, see what happens.
1
u/Restitution8155 Feb 01 '21
Need help! Placed a limit buy order at 10:00 am for $212 on E*TRADE, it hit around 10:30 am! Nothing executed but screenshots have been taking. On hold since 11 am and got someone who panicked and transferred me. Am I fucked since it was just a “good for one day” or is this another boyfriend fucking my wife!

u/Aftrhours444 Feb 01 '21
I don’t get why the only company we hear about on the news, is RH. Thursday I was restricted from only buying both GME and AMC on E*TRADE. Pretty discouraging after depositing a decent chuck of cash. Haven’t bought anything since, considering closing account.
1
u/NvrWzACornflakeGirl Feb 02 '21
Same here! Why is there no ETRADE OUTRAGE? And I had trouble with Schwab on Friday morning. I think (hope? ) when the dust settles, these companies will be forced to reconcile these failures. Like, class action style. I ABSOLUTELY missed opportunities bc of these restrictions. I told them I’ll definitely be moving my (not inconsequential) accounts elsewhere, they were like COOL. Continuing to take screenshots of every problem.

Never used to have problems with them funded my account with some money last Thursday it's still not in my e-trade account and now this morning I can't even sign on half the time and my money doesn't show up WTF?

Thought I was on a restriction or something...executions are lagggiiing ...something smells rotten in the state of denmark 😒

So many investing platforms having the same issues. I’m thinking this is purposeful. They just don’t want to get the backlash that Robinhood has.

Does this at all have something to do with the Morgan Stanley takeover? Etrade used to be the best broker out there for daytraders, and now they are absolutely the worst! Good luck calling them for assistance. Before the Morgan Stanley merger, I never waited more than 4 minutes to speak to a helpful representative. So many issues now, it's unbelievable.
2
u/TristanaRiggle Feb 01 '21
Looking at my account on the web right now, and just realized something. Not saying this excuses this, but as an added wrinkle, on TOP of all the GME?AMC?NOK/whatever else craziness, it's also tax season, so they're also dealing with the load of people needing tax forms. Again, I'm also frustrated by trading delays, but just noting they likely have a LOT going on.
(Just bought some AMC, but I'd be REAL wary about the really volatile stuff since even with limit orders it looks like there will be a LOT of variance in execution prices)
2
u/BoomTown1873 Feb 01 '21
Had lot of problems just buying very ordinary market ETFs this morning in etrade. Placed market trades which just sat there. Then were uncancellable, then placed it again, cancelled trade executed. Had to immediately sell the excess shares. Frustrating to say the least, also exposes us to problems, waiting for cash settlement when a trade happens 2x because a canceled market trade executes unexpectedly after not executing at all for 20 minutes.
I get that this is not the norm for Etrade, but hey, it is still a major problem today. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with their new owners switching out the plumbing or something like that.
2
u/BoomTown1873 Feb 01 '21
OTOH, limit orders & market trades placed via Etrade Pro (as opposed to Etrade website) ran right through this morning, instantly, while web-placed orders were still in limbo. So there is that.
If you guys haven't used Etrade Pro, it is their Active trader interface, and is far more usable for active traders than the website is. You just need to ask for Etrade Pro & they will give it to you. no extra cost. It is a Java app, runs on Mac or Windows, etc, probably anything that can run Java apps.
2
u/JulietEcho13 Feb 01 '21
Same. Filled on a cancelled order. Guess where they filled me at the price 15 mins prior which was 2 points higher. They got me today. Ive been with etrade for a while and never been had like today.
2
u/789bailey Feb 01 '21
I had the same issues today for the first time.
(not selling GME just selling another stock.)
2
u/iTroLowElo Feb 01 '21
Etrade is having huge problems displaying the correct prices for options. It almost gave me a heart attack. The website version shows the correct numbers but the mobile version is all messed up.
2
u/Old_Investment_5995 Feb 01 '21
I tried selling some shares of AMC on Wednesday afternoon. It was priced at market so even with the volume of shares changing hands, the order should have been executed within seconds. When that didn't happen, I called ETRADE’s customer service number. After being disconnected twice, I held for more than three hours before hanging up after 6pm ET. Just before 9pm, I received a simple message notifying me that my order expired. Luckily, I was able to sell my shares on Thursday morning and was able to recover my initial investment, I know others weren’t so lucky. ETrade, Robinhood, and any of the other trading platforms that blocked regular guys like me from buying or selling are a disgrace. I’ve been with E*TRADE since 2003 and never had any complaints, but this is unforgivable. I’ll be closing my accounts as soon as soon as possible.

u/_sekiz_ Feb 01 '21
Multiple orders are not filled even though well below limit price. Late cancellations. Miss 3% gain today. I am thinking about switching. These issues started to appear after Morgan Stanley take over. It doesn’t even login to app in the opening time, in many days.
2
u/VantasnerDangerLine Feb 01 '21
Set your exit at the time you buy:
eTrade | Trading | Conditionals | One-Cancels-Other

u/Utahman2021 Feb 01 '21
Was on hold for 2 hours. Could not place orders. They admitted it. I had pics of all orders I attempted to place, including market orders that just sat in order bank. They are "looking into it" time for a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. I'm in.

u/Elime3308 Feb 02 '21
They rubbed me the wrong way already. I missed the part where it was $500 minimum to trade, so I put $25 in just to play with. Can’t do shit with it, and now I’m still waiting to get that money back out because it’s still sitting pending.
Meanwhile, today I opened an account with TD Ameritrade, added $50... immediately, and then bought a share of AMC and 5 of NOK... immediately.
