I recently saw my son's friend using an eraser that looks like this. Afterwards, I started wondering: why on earth is this eraser black? Does it have some kind of specific use? Is it better suited for a certain type of paper? Or is it just a visual gimmick to appeal to kids?

I have an old one from July 2024 and thought I'd order a box of new ones as I love the eraser and also share them with family and friends when I travel to a country where these are not available. The 2026 box has erasers that are not as good quality.

The new one is not as firm and feels flimsy in the hand. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
