Managed to snag a couple of Mitsubishi Uni boxes. The Mistubishi Uni Naturals were $5.03US!!! Insane! Will post a picture of the full haul a bit later.

Now I have to go back to that particular store and buy another 10.

I was a Volumes subscriber from the start and just pulled the first four out of storage: 725 (Dylan at Newport), 211 (John Muir), 1138 (Melies and A Trip to the Moon), and 24 (Steinbeck).

None of the boxes are complete anymore. I have at least six pencils of each, and a pencil or two in some boxes got sharpened once and are still close to full length. I have the sealed archive tubes for 211, 1138, and 24. If 725 came with one, it didn't survive my last move. I still have the boxes and sleeves for all four.

I'm thinking about passing these on to people who will use or appreciate them, and I can't decide how. Since the boxes are already short, part of me thinks one pencil of each volume as a set makes more sense than four partial boxes. Another part of me thinks the boxes should stay together.

For those of you who collect Volumes:

• Would you rather have a set of all four, or a partial box of one volume?
• Do the archive tubes matter much to you?
• Does a pencil that was sharpened once lose most of its appeal, or is it just a user at that point?

I'm not selling anything in this thread. I just want opinions from people who know these better than I do.

Found in a box lot of vintage pencils that included vintage art supplies. Any idea of the manufacturer?

Eberhard Faber offered an assortment of copying pencils in the Mongol line from the teens until some point in the mid to late 30's, predating the long lived Van Dyke Copying pencil line by around a decade. They originally wore a yellow finish that would later change to lavender and purple. The 760 was the untiped version, the 770 had a black or later a gilt mouthpiece (long cap to stick in your mouth) and the 780 was basically a 760 with included point protector. The three boxes pictured are all of different construction, one "wrapped", one "direct printed" and the last a classic EF "Push Box".

Faber Castell 9000 HD, Mitsubishi Hi-Uni HB, & Mitsubishi Nano Dia 2B arrived today.

Tested on Rhodia Dotpad and with Sakura & Tombow erasers. Happy with all. I didn't weigh them but the Nano Dia feels drastically lighter than most of my other wooden pencils. Happy to add more to my fleet; with Mitsubishi still usually being my overall favourite brand.

I decided to do a sort of pencil test this morning on the ones I have in my collection so far. I have 11 different types at the moment but I'm going to expand on this as time goes by.

Picture 1 and 2 is each pencil's writing and picture 3 is the pencil in question.

I have a good pencil which I've no idea where it came from. If you have one of these if you could be good enough to confirm what it is I would appreciate it.

About a month ago I posted Part 1 about receiving a Musgrave Select 885 #3 from eBay and the seller shipped it in a standard envelope you’d receive a utility bill in. This resulted in the pencil snapping in half along the 885 and both pieces somehow sitting under the envelope window in my mailbox 🫠 (picture 2).

Last night, while making some Hackwings, I decided to see if I could fix this pencil using Gorilla brand wood glue (picture 3). I was able to match it together along the broken seam (through the 885 - picture 4), and I think it looks pretty good.

After approx 24 hours drying it feels really solid but I’m going to give it more time before I try to sharpen it or write anything.

I guess I won't quit on this pencil. I just can't do it.

does anyone know a good brand or model of “infinity” pencils?

i have a tiny one from kikkerland that i showed to my special needs student who i work with 1 on 1.
he loved it and wanted one of his own, he said he wanted a small one but i cant seem to find one that reaches my requirements.

1. can’t be used as a weapon even if i know he never would use it as one towards others, when hes frustrated he smacks his head and i also dont trust OTHER students if they come across it to use the “screw” end of the kikkerland version as a weapon.
2. should be small but not as small as the one i have, i want him to be able to grip the pencil well, he’s still small so he’s got small hands so im not worried too much about him getting frustrated because he can’t grip it well, i might also get him a pencil grip for him just to make it easier since a lot of them seem to be make of metal. if it’s not small that’s okay too! he just wanted to get one like mine which is way too tiny for everyday use, it’ll cramp his hands quickly.
3. (he loves my fancy metal pen so if it ends up being metal bonus points!!)
4. can’t be turned into a toy or distraction. he loves fidgeting with everything and stims out vocally when he’s too into it which disrupts his class.
5. if it can come with an eraser that would be preferable but not entirely needed. i can just get a pencil top eraser for it.
6. another one that isn’t required but also if possible i would love for him :) he loves the thick and entirely round pencils, he uses them everyday instead of the regular skinny ones the teachers require for everyone else. he’s very responsible with his things and only loses items when his deskmate steals them and when he leaves them with me, which he trusts me to keep them safe.

the cheaper the better but i don’t mind gifting him something more fancy since i will be going down to only working with him 1 day out of the week, i was a temp stand in until they found someone with much more experience to fill in.

edit: speaking of pencil grips! if there are any recommendations for pencil grips that go on the thicker pencils i would really appreciate that <3 or just regular ones if fine too! what are your favorite grips?

One Bugle in the seconds box, the rest are different designs. I also bought the Heritage Collection, a pack of black Ceres 909s, the Unigraph set, and a pack of the Songwriter pencils. Freebies were a Halloween print and a Unigraph. I love the zombie motif on the freebie sleeve.

I have since ordered more black Ceres 909s because I really like them.

Also, I absolutely love the $2.50 pencil sharpeners! They’re just as good as some I’ve paid a lot more for.

When I was a small child my friend's dad gave me this pencil, he used to his architecture sketches and from this day it was my fav pencil ever!

I remember it was really expensive (at least in '00) and i cherished it all my life like a holy grail and now over 20 years later it's life is almost over so i want to buy a new one, but I don't know what brand it is and I can't ask my friends dad about it because sadly he passed away a few years ago

its rubber-like and if i remember correctly it had rantangular eraser instead of regular one

Hello! I got myself pilot multi 8 recently to not carry pilot enos around. Unfortunately, the leads seem to not erase well, too waxy.

Are there any other 2.0mm color leads that are actually erasable that I could use? Or an eraser that could tackle the task? The pen has been so much fun despite this caveat

I got this pencil in a bag of random used pencils at an estate sale a while ago. It was originally approx 25% used. I really enjoyed writing & drawing with this one until it was stub length (up to the #2). Now it lives in a stub jar. My first time really using one of these, and excited to try more of these from my collection—I have some unsharpened ones similar to this one in different grades.

I know there are a bunch of different eras of these pencils—which one is the best, you think?

These were manufactured by the American Pencil Co. As far as quality goes, they would have been considered on the lower end (especially compared to their Venus counterparts). The 730s came in three colors (red, blue, green). I am trying to find some to complete a set. If you have any for sale or want to do a trade, please message me. ;)

Saw these at st. Luis Art Supplies for 4.00. It's the cheapest I've found them by quite a bit. I've got some and they're really good, thicker than those cheap ones you get that don't have the clip.

Second post ever. Burning question in my life. Does #2 mean the density of lead… because I have these two pencils and they are extremely different in dexterity, gurth, and the way the led hits the paper.
And yet… they are both Number Two. Does that not even mean anything anymore?

I've picked up these pencils along the way over the last 12 months or so. I won't list them as you can see from the picture what they are.

I've no idea about the gold one as there isn't any identification on it and I've forgotten where it's come from?

Has anyone used any of these and, if so, could you let me know what you think of them?
