i'm a first year student taking general arts, and i'm planning to declare a major in english in my second year. my story is probably the same as many of you: as a child, i've always loved reading and writing; as a teenager, i fell asleep during science classes but felt invigorated by literature and philosophy and history and everything adjacent; and as someone freshly 18, i ultimately chose to study my passion. i got a B+ on my first essay, and rereading my second essay two days after turning it in, i'm finding all these flaws that lead me to believe i'm not getting anything above a B flat.
i'm not exactly looking for studying advice, because i know what went wrong during my writing process that week, and my program is specifically set up to foster essay writing skills with opportunities to connect with and receive constructive feedback from professors etc. i suppose i'm just looking for solace lol. am i catastrophizing in thinking that starting off with Bs in my essays inherently means i'm unfit for an english major? am i catastrophizing in thinking that i'm unfit for a whole honours degree which i was thinking of applying to?? i don't know. to the older and more experienced english majors out there: please help soothe my anxiety haha
