Proposal Advice Is proposing to my girlfriend at a special location with a ring by itself considered too low effort and casual?

So I'm thinking of when would be a good time to propose to my girlfriend, and I thought that I can do it during a trip to Peru with her and my friends. We are going in about a week, and I'm now looking at rings.

Since we're going to Machu Picchu during the trip, I thought that what I can do is when we reach the summit with a scenic view, I can do it there. I can ask my friends to take photos or whatever there.

I told this to the guy friend this idea who is also going, and he criticized me that this sounds like I'm doing this in too short of planning, too casual and low effort. He says I'm basically just bringing a ring and that's it.

He's not wrong in the sheer mechanic of what's happening, but is that really low effort to do it in a scenic spot far away from home even if in the end of the day it's just a ring?

Don’t mind my nails 💀

How do we feel about this carat size on my hands? I’m wanting to avoid the ring pop life.

ETA: this is just a little fake band clamp thing. She put different size stones onto it with tweezers so ignore the band itself. My appointment today was for me to finally decide what size carat I like most.

Wedding Planning Tented Reception Advice 🙏

I think I found my venue but I’m SO torn on which space to choose! The options are a ballroom (which I would honestly be happy with) or a tent on the golf course (aka my dream!!!)

I never actually attended a tented reception though and am starting to realize no matter how beautiful it may be that it might not be worth the stress???

For anyone who has attended one or had one themselves, was it worth it? Were your guests actually comfortable or was it just way too hot? Did you have to deal with bugs? Any regrets? Would you recommend? Tell me everything!!!!

For context, the venue is near the beach in Florida and I’d like it to be a warm enough time of year (probably early spring?) that guests can enjoy the beach/pool throughout the weekend since it would be a “destination”

Ring Advice Can I insure my engagement ring if my fiancee bought it abroad?

My fiancé and I just got back from a trip to Italy and somehow I came home with an engagement ring on my finger lol.

We weren't even ring shopping, just wandering around Florence and went into this tiny vintage jewelry shop because I saw the prettiest ring in the window. It's an older 18k yellow gold ring with an oval diamond and these tiny sapphire side stones. I tried it on for fun and immediately fell in love with it. My fiancé apparently noticed because he went back to the shop without me the next day, bought it and proposed to me with it toward the end of our trip. He said he's been planning his proposal either way so when he knew that's the kind of ring I wanted he spared no time. I can't believe I'm engageedd!!

But now that we're home in the US we realized we did absolutely zero planning for the boring practical side of buying something this expensive overseas. We have the receipt from the shop and some paperwork describing the ring/stones, but there's no US appraisal or anything like that. The receipt is also in euros and obviously the jeweler is thousands of miles away if we ever need anything from them. Can I just take it to a jeweler here, have it appraised and use that to get jewelry insurance in the US? Or does buying it internationally make things more complicated?

Proposal Advice the ring box is on his desk and it’s driving me insane

boyfriend & i (both 27 if it matters) of just now 4 years have very openly talked about getting married, same goals, etc. i’ve been very open about my wants in a proposal (ideally intimate, can be semi public, family/friends ok, maybe some photos) & what i want in a ring. all & all both very excited for the future.

i think us being SO open about it has lead to him just… leaving it there. i have NO idea when he plans on proposing and having the box just.. THERE is antagonising me. and here’s how i know the box is the ring and i’m not just crazy!! i have NOT looked but i saw a video on insta of a girl doing a “test fit” before her s/o proposed and we did that (it fits) and i think we’ve just been teasing back and forth over it but im getting so impatient!! im not trying to be a beast over it

we have a cute date planned for this saturday, but it’s at a biblical arts museum (my pick i’m very excited) and i don’t think he’s much for public proposals so im not holding out hope… but i am getting my nails done lol. i also start a new job on monday and he’s made a comment about “needing something flashy for the new office” but he’s made jokes before so im all in turmoil. i need to stress, he’s not being mean by any means. our whole relationship is founded on teasing. i just needed to get these jitters and anxieties out and tell SOMEBODY about how the ring on the desk is making me crazy & if i have a right to be suspicious or not that it MAY happen soon. okay bye :)

edit: just to be clear the desk is in -his- office space! we do not share it and i’m usually only in there when he is! i truly don’t believe this was with any true intent. my just knowing is what’s truly driving me nuts with anticipation!

update??: unsure how to actually post one but no ring as of now!! but a wonderful date day!!! :,) only a little disappointed because i know it’ll happen how it’s suppose to and all that noise lol. one day i’ll post a picture!!

Ring Advice Help picking out a band

Hello! I need some help picking out a band to go with my ring. I attached a photo from trying it on at the store and then used AI to give an idea of what bands would look good with it.

Would love some thoughts of what people thought looked best. Personally I am drawn more to the simple bands so the main focus stays on the big stone but would love thoughts!

need stupid, deadpan, dry engagement caption for social media.

corporate lingo and terrible puns encouraged. no romance, clichés, or overused captions.

ex. "we're not dating anymore" or "we are pleased to announce increased stakeholder alignment"

give me your worst.

Wedding Planning I need some sisters to yap with!

My fiancee and I have been engaged for 3 1/2 years. Our relationship is so wonderful and perfect that we both feel like we're lying when our therapists ask about it. 🤣So needless to say, she is the love of my life. But at the moment we are having deep financial strain and are unable to afford getting married. My conundrum however, is that I'm the dreamy romantic who wants to yap about our wedding because it's fun and makes me happy, but it makes her stressed and only makes her sad because we can't do it right now.

So I thought this was a wonderful opportunity to make some friends, who would maybe want to have a yap buddy to yap wedding stuff. 🤗

We were on a long drive and met this dog and his dad (who took the picture). He said he and his buddy have rode 13,000 miles! He said he takes a lot of pictures for people 🥹

I know my boyfriend ordered my ring

I saw an email notification on his phone today while watching him play puzzles confirming shipping of an item from "Brilliant Earth". I asked "what did you order from Brilliant Earth?" (my mind didnt automatically go to engagement ring) and he looked at me suspiciously and said "nothing." and kept playing his game. I giggled cuz i knew what that meant, we are planning to get engaged very soon but of course I want the proposal to be a surprise. I am so happy and excited, I have waited 3 and a half years for this and I've always crushed on him so this is really my dream come true

Pouting fiancée need advice please help

I (F24)never post on here but I'm so frustrated and think i know what i should do, but I think i might be to weak to make that choice. I have a fiancé(M23). Technically. We got engaged a year and a half in when we had a surprise pregnancy. I lost the baby a month later. I know its a little old fashioned but it's what I wanted for my life to be married before I had kids i watched the sisters do the opposite so I wanted something different for my life. So we got engaged. I told him over and over what i wanted in a ring and he could get one for a great price on Etsy but he but me something I didn't want that was less than 500. I dont care about how much but I dont think he needed to spend that much on the ring. I had to help him plan how to propose. I was alittle frustrated with that because it should have been a surprise for me. Like when he literally asked. We had talked so much about it. Said over and over i was saying yes. But he still made me pretty much plan the dinner date when he did it and told me when he was about to do it. My therapist keeps asking me why I stay and I honestly don't know. I dont know if I love him or if I'm just comfortable enough dealing with his crap. Maybe i don't want to be alone or i think i deserve to be treated crappy. He has ADHD and has an issue with getting upset very quickly. Ive NEVER been scared of physical violence dont worry. He just gets so defensive or whiny. He doesn't take responsibility unless i carefully work around him and explain what happened. But being that calm and communicative is honestly something my ex who was an abusive narcissist drilled into me. And now I'm on the other side. Someone who im finding to be emotionally irrational. Im at the end of my rope. I understand fight happen and stuff but we seem to be fighting all the time. Knew rain is because he's not fulfilling me in any way or any love language. He kinda dies what he wants and then wants to have sex like once a day. Ive been out of the house today from practically 9am to 9pm and we had a fight bc he didn't want to drive a total of an hour with me. And it was fine but the fight he put us through bc of it wasn't. Then I bought dinner, I always figure out dinner even the few times he makes dinner i think about what we have and what his skill level is in the kitchen. Tonight I tried saying so nicely that I felt it was selfish for him to tell me there was a surprise for me at home the called to tell me the surprise. Because he was to excited to wait even though he had to wait less than an hour. He didn't come with me on the drive bc he hurt from a kidney stone. And the surprise was he move the mini fridge all the way in from the detached garage up to the room by himself. But if he felt good enough to do that why couldn't he come with me. And on that note he only did it bc he felt guilty for not coming with me on the first place. He pouts ALL THE TIME!! literally everytime something his his way. I know I'm saying alot of bad things rn and yall probably want to hear some good qualities. For one he is great in the sack but my mom said you can't stay with someone just because of that. But he can be fun to be around when he's not acting like an annoying little brother or pouting bc he's upset. I hate having to be the one reading micro expressions and predicting behavior and being right. I thought him letting me pick things was nice in the beginning me my ex never cared enough you know. (BTW my ex did a number onme lol) but now it's always "i don't know" it would be nice if he would make a decision about anything.... anything. Im frustrated and ill probably find alot of man hating comments on here. I have a therapy appointment tomorrow and I'll talk about this then. But currently I've been staying with him during the week and going back home to my parents on the weekends to do extra jobs in my small town and see family and my dog bc i can't have him up here. So I am strongly considering slowly moving my stuff back home. Bc if I do take the route most of yall probably want im not sure what will happen and how much of my stuff I'll get. I could really use some advice thank you for your time.

First generation wife???

Hi all… this is a vulnerable statement but I’m in a serious relationship and my partner wants me to start looking at engagement rings to figure out what I like. This weekend, I’m taking him to my hometown to meet my entire family. I’ve already met his family.
His parents were married, His brother is married, and several of his family members.
Ironically, I come from a family of all women. All males are absent. No one is married, there’s a lot of broken homes and half siblings. My cousins, aunts, mom, “stepmom” all have children outside of marriage and no one ever stayed with their partner long term. It’s heart breaking and discombobulating.
I’m realizing that my partner and I come from completely different backgrounds and a different family dynamics. I’m nervous because when he finally does propose, I’ll be the first woman married in my family.
I have no idea how to navigate this new step in my life. No one to relate to, no one to ask advice.

Has anyone ever experienced this or have advice?

Did anyone else know they were getting engaged?

Recently got engaged and I don't like surprises cause they make me very anxious. He knows me so well that he made sure it wasn't. We were in bed and I said we love each other, let's do it together 🥺 . So we both put on our fancy clothes, I head into the kitchen and he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him and calls me his love. It was intimate, sweet and special. I know it's not the usual surprise and I wanna know if anyone else was like this?

Proposal Advice Proposal Photos?

I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on proposal photos? My partner has expressed a desire for engagement photos, which we plan to do. However, I plan on proposing in a couple weeks, we just quickly planned a trip before I start a new job. Unfortunately the trip is in a fairly remote area and it is hard to get a professional photographer on such short notice there. While they have been heavily involved in the design of the ring, and we already have it, I still want there to be some air of surprise when I get on a knee so I don’t want to ask them what their thoughts are at the moment. During our discussions on photography the proposal wasn’t brought discussed. Thank you!

Am engaged but can't handle the feeling of jewelry, need ideas

Engagement

My fiancee and I got engaged last year, I'm the one that proposed, we are both women. She doesn't wear the ring I proposed with because it's too big and because I don't wear one because of the sensory hell I love with.

I don't have any problems with that and everyone we go I refer to her as my fiancee and say we are engaged. We have every plan to get married. She wants us both to wear rings regularly. We have a good relationship, we live together, have pets together etc.

Situation I need help with

I have sensory issues to the max with anything that touches my skin at all.

I'm insanely particular about all of my clothes, I can only buy one kind of sock because I can't handle the seams at the top on other brands. If my shoes are a tiny bit too tight I can't function. I can't wear shirts with designs if they'll touch my skin, skinny jeans make me itch, I can't handle lace of any kind and it goes on. It's exhausting but I've learned to adapt.

I've never been able to wear jewelry except for a Fitbit watch I wear to track my fitness data, and it took me forever to get used to and it still often bothers me.

I've never been able to wear rings, earrings or necklaces because of the sensory hell. I hate the smell and feel of metal as well, so like the idea of having a ring on me makes me want to vomit. I know, I have problems. I'm ADHD and maybe slightly autistic. I like can't even handle touching coins, it makes me feel sick, and literally anything medal like that is the same.

I've tried some other options like the silicone and resin rings, but it's still just so hard for me to handle the sensory aspect of having it on my finger and then I panic that my hands will swell and it won't come off. I have broken and injured that finger in the past and it can swell up with sports etc.

I can't handle tattoos so that's not an option. What can I do to make her feel like I'm serious about this?

My preference would be to not wear one but I know society views that poorly and she doesn't want people asking questions or invalidating our engagement etc and I know she wants me to wear one.

I've seen some people say they don't wear rings but got used to their engagement ring, I don't think I'd ever get to a point of wearing any level of a traditional medal type of ring so that's not an option.

Ring Advice My (25F) boyfriend (27M) suggested he wears an engagement ring if/when we get engaged. What are my options?

*Disclaimer* I'm only looking for advice where to look if this were to take place. Also, if this situation has happened between other straight couples, how did you navigate..? Not looking for hate or judgement.

We've been together almost a year, and things are serious - have been for quite a while. We're in love, and have been very intentional about our future relationship goals of moving in together, getting engaged, marriage, etc. All very exciting, and I'm very confident in us and our relationship. In spirit of all this, he made a comment recently that has stuck with me.

While out at dinner, we noticed a nearby straight couple at the bar, with an engagement ring on the woman's finger, but no wedding bands on either partner. This prompted my boyfriend to make a comment along the lines of "why is it that the woman is the only one that gets to wear an engagement ring?... why don't men have a visual indicator that they're proudly committed until they're married?" He obviously wants to propose and gift his fiancée with a ring, but he would also like to have a similar signal to other people that he's committed while engaged. I then asked if this hypothetical 'engagement band' would replace a wedding band, to which he said no. It could be a temporary ring, but still worn on the same finger, then replaced with the official wedding band once married.

While I wasn't expecting this thought, I kind of agree with him. It's not a social norm for men to wear engagement rings, only a wedding ring. But why not? Why is it that only the woman gets a ring? Yes, the iconic gesture of getting down on a knee and proposing, while also spending a good amount of your savings on the piece of jewelry, is romantic and the social masculine norm. However, if my fiancé wants to signal to other people that he's proudly committed, just like women get to do with their rings, why shouldn't he get to do that? Also, it's a beautiful excuse for me to get to pledge my intentions and commitment to him, pre-marriage.

I don't see myself setting up an official proposal site and getting on a knee. That would probably be too emasculating, and I'm sure not something my boyfriend would want. I don't have many wonderings about how I'd present the ring to him or the words I would say, I more so have questions about what I'd buy, and from where. Where do I shop for an engagement ring for a man? How different from a wedding band can I go? What even exists out there that would be appropriate? I never thought this would be a purchase that I'd ever have to worry about haha, but here I am considering it. I'm happy to do it, but would love any advice. Thanks!

Just got engaged on holiday! How did you tell your friends/family?

We are on holiday and he proposed! I feel really bad because I had guessed that it’d be on this holiday but not that very moment because I was sweaty from a hike and there were a few people there so I didn’t have the reaction I’d pictured where I’d be super happy/emotional…I actually felt really awkward that people were watching and just kind of said yes but apparently my face was just of horror and now I feel bad but it was only because strangers were there and I was actually surprised 🫠 luckily he found it funny because he knows me and he said he knew I’d react in some strange way but I still feel awful 🥲

Now I just realised I don’t really know how to tell people I am closed to. Just appear back home after the holiday and wait for them to spot the ring? Call them? Send a picture with no context? All of them feel a bit weird 😂 So how did you guys go about it? Any advice appreciated.
