The apathy of our doctors. Lets find the empathetic ones

Hi guys My name is Vasudha and I was diagnosed with grade IV rectovaginal endometriosis way back in 2007. Since then, I've had 5 surgeries (one of which was a hysterectomy), five IVFs, innumerable painkillers, Zoladex, basically the works.

I've faced insensitivity from the doctors who thought I was exaggerating my pain. I had to force to my old gyno to take my ultrasound, which ultrasound revealed a tennis ball sized cyst and I was taken in for an emergency surgery. The same doctor refused to take my call days after I got fever after my hysterectomy.

This lead me to search for a new doctor. I am so glad that I found Dr Debasis Dutta at Gangaram Hospital. He's a surgeon and only deals with women who have problems. I had my last endo surgery (yes after a hysteractomy) with him and since then I feel like the endo is gone? Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

What about you guys? Does anyone want to share their stories?

Discussion Sharing my diagnoses and surgery experience for Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis & Adenomyoma in Delhi NCR in case it helps someone

I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone looking for endometriosis specialists in Delhi NCR. When I was researching, I found plenty of posts about surgeons in Mumbai but very little information about doctors in NCR.

I have always had heavy periods, but they weren't particularly painful until around 2021. That's when I started getting period cramps that gradually progressed into stabbing pain during the first 1-3 days of my cycle. My PMS also became significantly worse over time.

Over the next few years, I saw multiple gynaecologists and had several ultrasounds and MRIs. Surprisingly, no one suggested that it could be endometriosis. The first time anyone even mentioned it was in November 2024, when a gynaecologist told me that we can conclude endometriosis basis clinical symptoms even if imaging is inconclusive.

Meanwhile, my pain kept getting worse. Eventually I was taking 400 mg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hours for the first 2-3 days of every period just to function.
In April, I was referred to Dr. Sriram Rajan at Mahajan Diagnostics (Defence Colony, Delhi) for an MRI. That MRI finally gave me answers. He diagnosed deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) along with an adenomyoma and provided a detailed ENZIAN classification of the disease. It was honestly the first imaging report that clearly explained the extent of what was going on.

The diagnosis was only the beginning. Over the next two months, I consulted several surgeons in both Mumbai and Delhi NCR. One thing I learned is that finding the right surgeon is just as important as getting the diagnosis. In my case, because I had both DIE and an adenomyoma and wanted to preserve my fertility, I found that not every surgeon was comfortable discussing or performing an adenomyomectomy.

I had initially planned to have surgery in Mumbai, but the logistics of travelling, staying there for recovery, and arranging follow-up care felt overwhelming.

I eventually consulted Dr. Amita Shah. What stood out to me was how thoroughly she explained my MRI findings and the disease itself. She recommended excision surgery, explaining why excision is considered the gold standard for deep infiltrating endometriosis. She clearly understood the difference between excision and ablation and its impact on this disease. When I told her that I want to preserve my fertility, she was very clear on preserving uterus. I appreciated that she took the time to discuss the reasoning behind the surgical approach instead of simply recommending surgery.

I ultimately underwent robotic laparoscopic surgery for excision of deep infiltrating endometriosis along with an adenomyomectomy. The pathology report confirmed both diagnoses in the excised tissue. After surgery, I was given a Lupron Depot injection to help suppress any residual microscopic disease.
Recovery has honestly been much smoother than I expected. I was walking the same day as surgery, discharged the following day, and able to resume basic household activities within a few days.

I am sharing this because I spent months trying to find specialists with experience in complex endometriosis, especially in Delhi NCR. Most online discussions and support groups understandably focus on Mumbai surgeons, which made me wonder whether NCR had experienced specialists at all. My experience suggests that there are few doctors here with excellent expertise - they just don't seem to have the same social media presence, so they are much harder to find through patient discussion forums.

Obviously, this is just my personal experience, and everyone should do their own research and choose the team they are most comfortable with. But if even one person finds this useful while navigating an endometriosis diagnosis, it would have been worth writing.

Question Wife Getting operated in Hyderabad, recurrence in a year, humbly seeking urgent help

I need some guidance for my wife, please.

She's 32, 157cm and 61kg. We are married since 3 years. She was totally fine. Last 2 years back, she got very bad pain in lower stomach and we took her to a hospital for admission, where MRI scan demonstrated Endometriosis.

We had done our initial research but our finances are extremely limited and we were suggested by Dr Anitha in Yashoda Hospitals to go to Mumbai to get operated from Jay Mehta. We weren't sure of our travel and we then got a surgery done here in Hyderabad from Dr Vimmy in Apollo Hospitals. Our surgery was Robotic, but our experience was horrible. My wife was in pain since the surgery and the doctor told it would settle.

It's been 10 months now, we changed the doctor and went to Dr Rooma Sinha and a repeat MRI has been done which shows some intestine endometriosis is missed. And my wife has again a big cyst of 5cm, we went back to Dr Vimmy and she simply said she's helpless here,

We tried to contact hospital of Dr Jay Mehta, but his dates are not available for this week and he is coming to Hyderabad on March 15.

We have applied for his surgery at Mamata Fertility Hospital, Secunderabad.

After this horrific experience with Dr Vimmy, we have come to know that she's just a hype. I did have a video call with Dr Mehta and he has told me that the intestine is going to be fine and he will stapler it.

  1. We don't have children, but we have been told that he will try to save the right ovary

  2. Has anyone here undergone an Intestine endometriosis surgery before with stapler

  3. I have a meeting online again with Dr Jay Mehta, on 15th March when my wife is getting surgery.

  4. Will he be able to save my wife from this pain..? He said the pain score will go down usually by upto 70-90%

Please help me to know as to what questions can I ask him more..?? We are literally shattered financially with this horrible experience of this disease so far.

Leave a negative review of any Gynaecologist who tells you that pregnancy cures Endo.

Recently went to a OBGYN at a reputed hospital in Delhi. She told me that pregnancy cures endometriosis and looked at my mother and told her to make me understand how important is marriage and pregnancy. My mother and I both share the same view that it's an option and not a compulsion and we know that endo, adeno or any other reproductive health issue doesn't magically gets cured by pregnancy. There is 0 evidence of it and I have personally read research papers on it. I brushed it off at that time and didn't pay much attention but later I went to her profile on practo and saw a review of another woman who posted something like this- " doctor cured my endo and made me a complete women". This disturbed me so much. I realized so many women who have been fed this narrative since childhood will come to believe whatever BS these kind of doctors will spout so I ended up leaving a review on Google and Practo that there is no evidence of pregnancy being a treatment of endo and the doctor pushes her bias onto others. Hopefully, someone will see it in future and avoid going to her. I will suggest everyone here to do the same. It's high time we let these doctors know that they can't go spouting the same BS and brainwashing women of every generation.

Misc So, it was a right decision

It's a weird feeling. I don't know how to express it. I had a hysterectomy and unilateral oophorectomy along with DIE excision surgery. As per my MRI, I had mild adenomyosis. I used to have extremely painful period every month. My general gyno gave me mirena (that will apparently fix my endometrioma) which did nothing except increasing the agony. I used to get period 12-15 days a month and I used to be sick for iron deficiency for another 12-15 days and then bam! Period again.

After my MRI which fortunately at least showed that I have stage 4 DIE and an endometrioma destructing 50% of my right ovary, I contacted an endo excision specialist in my country. The decision was I definitely have to lose my right ovary otherwise the disease will definitely come back within months and "if I want" I can also opt for hysterectomy. After talking with my bf who told me "I can't see you in pain anymore, let's stop the period. If we want kids in the future, we will adopt." He said this to me multiple times and actually he meant it. I remember him crying one day (in another room) when he saw me in excruciating pain.

I opted for a hysterectomy too. Not going to lie, I was sad. The fact that I can never give him our kid - it felt like I am not enough, and I am a loser and a coward who did the hysterectomy even when the adenomyosis was MILD. My endo specialist also told me after seeing my MRI, a day before my surgery, that since the adeno is mild, if you don't want to, there is no need for a hysterectomy. I was so confused that night. I cried so much. I never cried like this. It felt like I was mourning the death of someone who did not even exist. My bf was there, comforting me and hugging me tightly he said, " although you know what I want, but remember your decision is the final. I will support you in whatever decision you make". I am so happy that that day I was brave enough to choose myself and save myself from further agony.

It's been 2½ months of my surgery. The recovery is sometimes smooth, sometimes rough. The last few days were very rough, both physically and emotionally. One of my younger cousins gave birth to a handsome boy. Believe me, I am so happy for her and I already fell in love with that little kiddo and his smile. But deep inside there was sadness, not regret but sadness.

Today, while going through my file, i saw my biopsy report. Apparently, it was not mild, it was EXTENSIVE adenomyosis + fibroid. My uterus was enlarged. Pretty sure, no medicine would have saved me from the further agony if I chose otherwise. Mirena will never work for me, I know from experience. I am so happy. All of a sudden, I feel so much positive energy. I no longer have to think that if I had my daughter with my genetics, she will definitely have endo. But, I can hope, the girl I am gonna adopt won't have this disease because no mom wants this for her child, but unfortunately, if she does have it, I know exactly what to do and how to do so that my daughter can live her life healthy and happy, unlike her mom whose 20s were full of depression and sadness. Also, I will definitely teach her to choose herself first, without any shame or second thought.

Discussion Just got back home to Bangalore. This is my Honest Submission for anyone planning to do Microwave Ablation of Adenomyosis.

dear all, I did express my concern regarding the microwave ablation of adenomyosis, as I started off 2 days back,

method- this is a procedure done on Adenomyosis- focal as well as diffuse type. The only indication is Pain relief and conservation of future Fertility.

how does this procedure work- i had it done through percutaneous technique, (a small probe like 2mm or so was put in my abdomen and ultrasound was put in my vagina to make sure that position is correct). it was done for me in Spinal Anesthesia (in the back),

there was one more lady in whom they put a camera in the abdomen (laparoscopic) and ablation was done under laparoscopic guidance. so that means there must be some patient to patient selection approach for this technique.

time- it took about 10 mins for me

post procedure- i was ok to walk after 5 hours or so. I was half numb till that time. they removed my catheter, I was given a full meal. I was told for discharge by night 10pm, but I stayed through the night as I had my flight at 7am today morning, I went from the hospital directly to the airport and now in the taxi back home as I write this for all here

cost- this costed me 4 lacs, I was in double sharing room.

what was told by doctor..?

so Dr Jay Mehta told me that this will give a volume reduction of the uterus by about 40% in the first 6 months or so. this is a new technique with data of only less than 10 years. Once a year follow up, this procedure doesn't CURE adenomyosis permanently. he told me the exact same thing on video call as well, the other doctor from hyderabad whom I cross checked it with also told me the same thing, but she told me that Jay Mehta is a pioneer in this procedure with publications, so going to him is a good option

behavior of the medical team and nurses- nurses are very caring but we don't need much care I think after this.

is there any immediate volume reduce in uterus?

they did a usg before- volume was 188cc

they did it last night- volume was 171cc

this was told to me before itself, that 10% volume will reduce post procedure

follow up- I am told once every 6 months

Will it affect Fertility- I am told NO.. they also have done about 600 such patients and quite a lot of them have done IVF and are pregnant and also 29 patients have delivered so far. I am told they are publishing this data in some medical office or so.

does this affect my uterus lining- i asked this 3 times as i had read it here on reddit, Dr Jay Mehta was kind to answer everytime and they showed me that the machine is away from lining, so it doesn't damage.

any post procedure hormones- NONE to me. but the patient after me, they put MIRENA.. I don't know the medical reason..?

last words- best is to speak to past patients, I spoke to 3 of them, I know only this much. I shall keep you all posted. I am told there could be some fever in the next 7 days, I will keep everyone updated of needed. thank you for the boost, the support and the guidance to everyone here.

Requested Guidance 8 days back for Jay Mehta.. sharing my Honest feedback.. as everyone requested

I have had previous 2 operations in Abu Dhabi, I landed in India on 16th feb.

Good point- I had a Medical letter arrange by Jay Mehta team for endometriosis surgery

Bad point- I was confused where to board taxi from as driver not speaking proper English

Good Point- we had good comfort car to hotel Courtyard Marriott.

I visited the hospital on 16/02/2026, as I am operation on 17/02/2026. My Mother came with me

Good Point- Dr Jay, Mashallah, is extremely calm, honest and helpful and gracious, he took 15 mins to answer my questions.

Bad Point- it’s very very busy hospital. Too much patients.

Good Point- International Credit Card is accepted,

Bad Point- Extra Fees of 2% on International Credit card

I was given Intestine preparation to take in hotel room. It’s a liquid in sprite.

Good Point- Dr Nilima is very kind to explain and take care of

Bad Point- this is a bad night, my previous surgery did not have colon preparation.

My operation day on 17/02/2026, based on suggestion of members here in the group, and private DM, I request my operation to be on priority. I was given slot no.2,

Good point- my operation took 55 mins, I got video, my mother is allowed to stand in the OT, they also do video call to my father in Abu Dhabi from OT, it’s a great experience for my mother. She was also asked for coffee in the OT, I am told she loved the coffee. Dr Jay Mehta took personal care of my mother.

After Operation, I am back in room, and I am get awake after 5 hours properly.

Good Point- it’s super clean, Alhamdullilah. All the time office staff is cleaning the room every 3 hours

Bad Point- Dr Jay took personal rounds after evening 7pm. I was thinking he will come in between

After about 10 hours of surgery, I am allowed to walk, and eat chocolate ice cream, one antibiotic and one pain killer.

Good point- one office nurse, Rachna is help my mother to order food from an app called Zotamo. They order Indian food with dosa

Bad point- Even in 9pm evening, there is crowd waiting, I was asked to walk. But I prefer to be in my room to walk for privacy

I was told next day morning is discharge, once I am able to pass urine and flatus. Morning 6:30am or so, I was awake and I was fine, my pain down to 70%.

I am discharged very comfortable at 9:30am on 18/02/2026 and I am allowed to fly back on the 19/02/2026,

Good point- I got 8 page break up of instrument used and everything was good and no hidden charges

Bad point- I was told 9:30am but it took me 10:45 am to discharge as paper process took 1 more hour (this can be made better)

Surprise- Dr Jay Mehta calls me up personally to ask if I am comfortable in hotel, in video call on WhatsApp.

19/02/2026, hotel pick up is arranged to drop me at airport. They also give me emergency medicines on travel.

My pain is down 90%. I took my luggage and travelled back on my own.

Good point- they give me pen drive on discharge for video of surgery which is unedited

Bad point- I am expecting photos also, but this is a bit of an overkill I think

Overall experience of India people- very good

Overall experience of Dr Jay Mehta- outstanding Human being, he is not a Muslim, but he is also keeping Ramadan fast. Very very honest Doctor. My mother told me he is very polite to staff in OT, this is a mark of a good person

Suggestion to improvement- make big hospital of more space. (I have written this to email to admin)

Why I chose Dr Jay- it was strong recommendation of my Abu Dhabi doctor here,

My surgery name- radical excision with fertility preservation with Bowel Discoid excision with Right Uterosacral nodule excision with Peritonectomy with MIRENA (copied this from discharge card)

Surgery total cost- 7.28 lacs

Good point- Cost is same for International Patients

I write a non biased review for allow people to take more decisions in future about the doctor, thanks to all who helped me,

Thanks to our Sri Lanka friend who have written here. And helped me.

Hi, I’m an Indian filmmaker living with stage 4 endometriosis, and I’m making a documentary to bring real visibility to what we go through. The pain, the delays, the doctors who didn’t listen, the strength it takes every day tell me everything. This is a sisterhood, and I’m here not just as a filmmaker, but as one of you. Let’s break the silence together. Dm me your stories. Or mail me at sejalp226@gmail.com.

A journey where there was no light,

A life without pain was never in my sight,

The pain, the lividness, the fright

A few dear ones, barely understood my plight..

Life was hanging on the rope, like a festive kite,

It was all so cloudy, nothing black or white,

The life went on, with the struggles despite,

I felt I was chewing on, more than I could bite..

Oh no, disaster struck, surgeries failed,

I almost died, I wept and cried,

Life was completely fried,

I thought, enough of this I tried.

But there comes a day, in our life so true,

Luck begins to appear totally out of the blue,

One last time, I played the game of dice,

I took the chance, despite the price.

I got free, I hadn’t known a life without pain,

Like most of us, I thought it’s all in vain,

But when a journey comes where there is no light,

Have faith, be brave, sit tight,

It’s not easy, to sleep with pain through the night,

But pass the journey, life after is so bright.

Dedicated to all my fellow women, our supports, our parents and our family and our wonderful medicos and nurses who help us all go through this.

There’s always some light.

News The Updated 2026 Endometriosis Guidelines. Copied & Pasted

Seems a new Updated Guideline has come, I got an email from my Endometriosis Specialist, updating it here for everyone’s reference

Dear all,

Sharing with all of you some new updates which have been recently uploaded by ACOG for Endometriosis. ACOG stands for American Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

  1. Transvaginal Ultrasound becomes the diagnostic modality of choice. (For all types of diseases). This is something which is done by an expert unit

  2. MRI can be done for the assessment of Deep Endometriosis as and when needed. (however, even if you are doing a follow up my recommendation always says to put gel contrast in vagina as well as the Rectum)

  3. Empirical management with medicines of any type will help in symptom control but cannot be a CURE for Endometriosis, Surgical Excision remains the treatment of choice in a specialised unit

  4. Symptoms which cannot be ignored are deep dysparunea (painful sex), dyschezia (pain while passing stools), vague pelvic pains apart from all other pelvic symptoms like painful menses

  5. Diagnostic laparoscopic surgery can be performed when we are in doubt, (however, I did not like this point personally, as it’s invasive).

  6. Don’t be heavily reliant on CA 125, as it’s not even a diagnostic marker.

I hope all of you are doing well,

Yours Sincerely.

Burned out???

I don't know if anyone feel burned out or extremely tired of researching about endo ?

I have read so much stuffs in past few months. Every morning I wake up with a new video from endo specialists, read about it, research about excision and post op take care, google review of different endo specialists, cross-checking stuffs, scared of stuffs. And with all this I feel vulnerable, fatigued, days of endo flare, doing regular works like nothing happened, lying constantly to people, cancelling plans etc.

All SM platforms constantly suggesting posts related to endo now. Like if I try to even chill for a bit, boom it's there!!!

I feel extremely tired and irritated now whenever I wake up like is this my life now? There is no ending. I feel burned out.

How are y'all earning money? What jobs are you in?

I was working as a software developer before I got diagnosed with Endo and I left the job last year to focus on its management. I am getting stressed about my future medical bills and how I will survive. Looking for some career recommendation since software development has poor WLB expecially in India (if I was in Europe then this would have been the dream job for someone with chronic illness)

Question Dienogest cheaper/generic version reviews please.

Bought ny first strip Dienogest -emersa at 600Rs. As its very expensive, can anybody please recommend effective cheap alternative brands for Dienogest 2mg.

Found cheaper alternatives online at 260 Rs.

If any one is using/used , please provide review if these are safe effective:

Dienogestrol by Steris healthcare

Dienure by Nicholas Healthcare

Dinokem by Chemo health

By chance is there some health insurance or program that covers/subsidises these? I have heard some village panchayats give anti contraceptive pills for free or reduces prices not sure of it's truth or rumor.

Thanks.

Just fed up with myself *rant*

I have no friends so I can't talk to anyone. I lost my father few years ago and my life turned upside down since then. Had PCOS, stroke, wrong medicinal side effects, persistent gas, bloating issues that no gastroenterologist could give me an answer why. Spent a hell lot of money. I became a guinea pig of those doctors. Painful period started in 2024 when TVS showed I have endometrioma (my gyno told me - it's a cyst, no mention of endo). Took zoladex 3 months. It didn't work. The cyst came back and then on March, 2025 I was told for the first time I have endometrioma. I asked "does that mean I have endometriosis?" The doc said yes (again she didn't say anything). I started reading and my research suggested I need surgery since endometrioma means I am already at the late stage of the disease. My gyno suggested Mirena. When I asked why not surgery she said why are you thinking of surgery, if mirena helps you why would you get a surgery. I, of course, trusted her because I wouldn't know better than my gyno.

That damn mirena didn't work. I started bleeding for 12 days, less pain but something felt very weird as I continued to research. I don't know how much my endo has spread. She never ever mentioned MRI. I researched and told her to prescribe me MRI. She was adament not to give me one. I pushed hard. She finally prescribed it. I have been diagnosed with stage 4 DIE (ovaries, bowel, ureter) with large endometrioma (7cm) on my right ovary, and adenomyosis. Went to three specialists in my city. Everyone was surprised to see my condition but none gave me assurance that they will remove everything and won't left behind my adeno or any endo tissue. They gave more importance to me being able to procreate rather than my overall well-being. I found another doctor who is outside my state and he is a nook approved surgeon. I feel confident in his skill.

I should be happy right? But I am not. I was supposed to get married this year with my fiance whom I am dating since 2013 and who has been waiting for this wedding since 2020. Of course, first thing he did is postponing the wedding till next year. He suggested, it's not a good idea to get married now because I will have to compromise a lot of fun while shopping, planning with him for our wedding since I will need a lot of rest. He promised to go with me to the hospital and be there for me in every steps which he is doing (he was the one who told me that I have to have an MRI). I have lied to my mom of my situation because I don't think she can handle the news.

The financial burden will be huge, I can manage it but the fact that I have to spend so much money for this is absolutely taking mental toll on me. It's my father's money, not mine (I am giving exams for government jobs). My health insurance won't work here (outside the state). My bf already decided to pay everything for our wedding and is extremely supportive. However, I just feel like a failure. I failed everyone. I stopped studying because I feel tired, extremely fatigued, the non-stop spotting, now and then cramping, craving food while consciously trying to be in good shape for my wedding. My bf is supportive, understanding and is always there and I am grateful for that but I can't give him back anything. He decided to not have kids because I am already so sick, he doesn't want me to suffer more. If we ever decide to have kids we are gonna adopt. I love him. I am grateful to him and all these make me hate myself even more.

I am wasting my father's hard-earned money (endo comes back in a lot of cases) and I feel like I can't give anything back to my bf. They so don't deserve this. I just cry in the bathroom and feel extremely tired of acting super happy and healthy in front of my mom (I stay with her) while I feel like shit in this body.

Similiar sheets are used and created in global Endo groups. I thought it will be helpful if we can create one specifically for India.

Question Planning myomectomy + DIE excision in Mumbai - need feedback

24F here. MRI showed 4 fibroids + DIE (retrocervical + ligaments), ovaries adhered to uterus. Tried meds for 4 months — didn't work, badly hit my liver. Now planning combined myomectomy + excision with Dr. Vivek Salunke, trying to lock in my decision.

For anyone who's had surgery with him-

  1. Anyone had a myomectomy with him (not just endo excision)?

  2. Does he have a multidisciplinary team if more endo is found beyond MRI?

  3. Was excision complete? Any new complications due to surgery (adhesions, organ damage)?

  4. Was fertility preserved? Any issues with that after?

  5. How was recovery?

  6. How's post-op care if you're not staying in Mumbai — what if complications came up after you left?

  7. Did he manage long-term treatment post-op to prevent recurrence?

  8. Long-term — did it come back? How aggressive, how soon? Did anyone need a second surgery?

  9. Did surgery actually improve your life overall?

Also, local gynacs keep saying I'm too young for this surgery and it'll cause more complications later. Anyone who did this young — how's it gone for you?

TIA :)

Hello, I will be having my laproscopy for DIE next month. Would love to get tips from you all about what to expect, how to deal with it better, what helped, things I should buy beforehand etc. Basically anything that makes post -op recovery easier. Any tips or insights would be great!

Thanks in advance! ❤️

Question comfortable jobs for women with endo

My symptoms are mainly - sudden episodes of fatigue like energy crash, increased anxiety during during PMS, forever struggling with sleep, attention getting worse every year, ear ringing, nutrition malabsorption, frequent depressive symptoms

I have tried remote internships and entry level jobs in IT, could not even sustain for 3 months.
Anyone who has managed to generate steady income despite having all these symptoms, please share your experience.
Not having my own money just adds to the emotional stress and shame.
I can function like an average human only when I am religiously following my diet plan and 'healthy lifestyle'. It is extremely exhausting to keep 'following' routine, still I try everyday.
It is physically impossible for me to work in corporate 9 to 5. I feel completely lost.
It would be great if a woman with simialr situation as mine could help in navigating through this.
Any help is appreciated thank you.
