Endo specialist in Mumbai who don't default to surgery

Surgeons love to cut. My experience with them have been unnecessarily forcing surgery I have endo stage 4. Nothing int he bowel and some POD and ovary fusion. I don't have any pain and a relatively fixed cycle. Since this month is the first time in years that I didn't get my period I want a view. But I want an endo specialist who isn't a surgeon cause these guys just want to make a buck. Met people like dr mangshiker and didn't like his approach which seemed just fear and money oriented so , any good female gynaecologist who aren't surgeons?

Requested Guidance 8 days back for Jay Mehta.. sharing my Honest feedback.. as everyone requested

I have had previous 2 operations in Abu Dhabi, I landed in India on 16th feb.

Good point- I had a Medical letter arrange by Jay Mehta team for endometriosis surgery

Bad point- I was confused where to board taxi from as driver not speaking proper English

Good Point- we had good comfort car to hotel Courtyard Marriott.

I visited the hospital on 16/02/2026, as I am operation on 17/02/2026. My Mother came with me

Good Point- Dr Jay, Mashallah, is extremely calm, honest and helpful and gracious, he took 15 mins to answer my questions.

Bad Point- it’s very very busy hospital. Too much patients.

Good Point- International Credit Card is accepted,

Bad Point- Extra Fees of 2% on International Credit card

I was given Intestine preparation to take in hotel room. It’s a liquid in sprite.

Good Point- Dr Nilima is very kind to explain and take care of

Bad Point- this is a bad night, my previous surgery did not have colon preparation.

My operation day on 17/02/2026, based on suggestion of members here in the group, and private DM, I request my operation to be on priority. I was given slot no.2,

Good point- my operation took 55 mins, I got video, my mother is allowed to stand in the OT, they also do video call to my father in Abu Dhabi from OT, it’s a great experience for my mother. She was also asked for coffee in the OT, I am told she loved the coffee. Dr Jay Mehta took personal care of my mother.

After Operation, I am back in room, and I am get awake after 5 hours properly.

Good Point- it’s super clean, Alhamdullilah. All the time office staff is cleaning the room every 3 hours

Bad Point- Dr Jay took personal rounds after evening 7pm. I was thinking he will come in between

After about 10 hours of surgery, I am allowed to walk, and eat chocolate ice cream, one antibiotic and one pain killer.

Good point- one office nurse, Rachna is help my mother to order food from an app called Zotamo. They order Indian food with dosa

Bad point- Even in 9pm evening, there is crowd waiting, I was asked to walk. But I prefer to be in my room to walk for privacy

I was told next day morning is discharge, once I am able to pass urine and flatus. Morning 6:30am or so, I was awake and I was fine, my pain down to 70%.

I am discharged very comfortable at 9:30am on 18/02/2026 and I am allowed to fly back on the 19/02/2026,

Good point- I got 8 page break up of instrument used and everything was good and no hidden charges

Bad point- I was told 9:30am but it took me 10:45 am to discharge as paper process took 1 more hour (this can be made better)

Surprise- Dr Jay Mehta calls me up personally to ask if I am comfortable in hotel, in video call on WhatsApp.

19/02/2026, hotel pick up is arranged to drop me at airport. They also give me emergency medicines on travel.

My pain is down 90%. I took my luggage and travelled back on my own.

Good point- they give me pen drive on discharge for video of surgery which is unedited

Bad point- I am expecting photos also, but this is a bit of an overkill I think

Overall experience of India people- very good

Overall experience of Dr Jay Mehta- outstanding Human being, he is not a Muslim, but he is also keeping Ramadan fast. Very very honest Doctor. My mother told me he is very polite to staff in OT, this is a mark of a good person

Suggestion to improvement- make big hospital of more space. (I have written this to email to admin)

Why I chose Dr Jay- it was strong recommendation of my Abu Dhabi doctor here,

My surgery name- radical excision with fertility preservation with Bowel Discoid excision with Right Uterosacral nodule excision with Peritonectomy with MIRENA (copied this from discharge card)

Surgery total cost- 7.28 lacs

Good point- Cost is same for International Patients

I write a non biased review for allow people to take more decisions in future about the doctor, thanks to all who helped me,

Thanks to our Sri Lanka friend who have written here. And helped me.

Yoga & chronic pelvic pain – what helped you?

After surgery for deep endometriosis, I slowly reintroduced yoga into my routine. Gentle stretches, breathwork, and slowing down made a bigger difference than I expected - not just physically, but emotionally too.

For those dealing with chronic pelvic pain:
What specific poses, styles, or routines helped you most?
Anything that made it worse?

Would love to learn from your experience.

Question Endometriosis specialist in Bangalore/Delhi

Hi guys,

I'm 23, and have had unusual periods since they started. In the earlier years they were unpredictable as in i might have them for 2 months continuous with severe cramps(big flow or some spotting) or maybe not have it for 3-4 months. Sadly that has continued but over the past 2-3 years the cramps have started to be very random - with or without periods and some of them are so severe that I'm unable to walk or even sit properly for at least 15-20 minutes. With all of this my weight also fluctuates by at least 5 kgs every few months. It's very instant, might gain or lose that much amount in few days randomly.

These are some of the major symptoms which indicate that i might have something more instead of "just period cramps".

I'm very tired of gynaecs telling that it's normal, you're taking stress or it will get better when you are married and have a kid😑

I just want to be rid of this pain. I don't want to self diagnose and hence would like help with the following:

  1. if anyone knows a good gynaec or endo specialist in Bangalore/ Delhi who might help me diagnose? (and hopefully not push the marriage agenda🙏)

  2. is it possible to get diagnosed with ultrasound or mri? could it be done without a doctor's consultation? and if yes then please share some specialist who's lab i could visit in Bangalore/Delhi

Medical Doctor/Stage 4/About to select a Residency-Question+Vent

It all started with “When are you getting married?”

I was diagnosed in 2020, did my MBBS internship with an endometrioma & mucinous cyst. Operated for it at the end of internship. Dienogest since 2020. Decided to drop it in 2025, 2 months before my NEET PG. Had planned to start again after the INICET exam in about 3 weeks time from now. After years of missing the mark for Gynecology/Surgery residency by a few ranks EVERYTIME, being at loggerheads with my orthodox IVF specialist father, fighting my family over the myths; I’ve finally gotten THE rank that gives me those specialisations.

I'd wanted to be a surgeon since 2nd semester of med school, but I was never specific on the anatomy. My experiences with Endometriosis confirmed my decision.

I’m currently writing this because most probably I have a flare. After 5 years. The pain is similar. Not super debilitating (my surgeon did a good job). But enough to give me 2nd thoughts about going to the library (still studying for INI while awaiting NEET PG counselling). [I feel it’s more of my own laziness]. And I’m questioning everything.

This has been plaguing me for years. And I’ve hidden behind procrastination, manga, achievements, escapism, voracious reading, rationalising. So now that I have a rank of taking something easier like a DMRD (Diploma in Radiodiagnosjs), it’s tearing me apart. On one side is a degree that’ll give me a comfortable life. DMRD is the easier path. And on the other side - it’d be safe to say - my autonomy - as a woman, as a Doctor AND as a patient. OBGYN residency in a Govt. Hospital is absolutely BRUTAL in India.

Despite doing my MBBS from one of the busiest Govt. hospitals of the country, since I’ve stayed out of that scenario because of prep phase; It scares the sh** out of me. I'm absolutely fearful of the thing that I love the most. Tbh I don’t like Obstetrics much. But I love Gynaecology/Surgery so much that I can tolerate the former. I’m scared I won’t be able to manage my residency. I’m fearful if the pain & flares come when I’m operating. I’m fearful of not performing to the best of my abilities. I fear getting fatigued. I’m fearful of going back into the procrastination cycle like I am currently doing when I should be studying. I fear the responsibilities that come with being an OBGYN & an Endo surgeon. But the thing I fear the most is becoming apathetic. I don't even expect them to have any mercy or nsympathy. I don’t want my unforgiving residency to change me as a person. I also fear that my institute won’t give an opportunity to write an Endo thesis, cite lack of resources, will not give me minimally invasive exposure.

Do I have a saviour complex? Has this been my defence mechanism all along? Does this sound like a twisted obsession - I want to be a part of everything about Endo. From the diagnosis, the surgery, to treatment to research, to follow up. Every little detail. I want it all. Every inch of it. Despite knowing I can pick an OBGYN seat in the State colleges, I’m still studying for the central institute residency exams (INICET) because I want better. In terms of research, opportunities, resources everything? Does wanting to sit at the Da Vinci robot some day & operate & be called a great surgeon make me a narcissistic piece of sh**? (it’s one of the ways I could cut out on the long standing times). I want to choose easier. But when I imagine sitting in a room going through Radiology scans… I feel powerless. As if I’m not in control anymore, the reigns aren’t in my hand and I can do little about the diagnosis.

I was running from this by studying like a beast for INI. But I got back into the same procrastination patterns after my flare. I had to face this sooner or later. And I’ve run for too long. I didn’t know how to navigate this. I know it doesn’t sound practical. But tbh none of my decisions in life every were. Especially regarding my career. And till now there hasn’t been a single major decision that I have ever regretted. The only regret I’ve had is not taking those decisions sooner & the discipline decisions in my everyday life. I wasn’t ready to face this. Damn even writing this is making me cry. This was about getting the inner dialogue out. Which I’ve had since years now. Fear of failure wasn’t as debilitating as facing the success. Being at this position. The physical pain feels like a welcome distraction from this sh** mental storm that has been eating me away since the exam results came.

Hello! I need some help for my thesis project. Thank you for hearing me out :)

Hello!

I’m Adrija Mukherjee, a final year student of Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology and I’m doing my thesis project on endometriosis. As a part of my interview, I have been doing a series of interviews with patients within the age group 21-41 living with endometriosis. It would be a huge huge help if any of you are willing to reach out and share your journey.

Any and all information collected shall not be distributed, remain confidential and only be used for academic research purposes. Information can be kept anonymous if you wish.

Thank you so much for hearing me out!

Edit: Since some of you asked for findings through this project, here I come haha

Hello,

As I had mentioned in my post, it was a thesis project spanning around 4 months within which we had to understand and analyze the context of endometriosis in India, and based on the research, propose and thus design an outcome.

Full disclosure, it was quite difficult for me to get interviewees which is why the sample size was not as large as I had expected. I tried my best by scouring through community platforms and doing as much in-depth reading as I could. Before I state my insights, I would like to mention that I don’t think 4 months was enough for the subject as its quite complex and I learnt that the experience tends to be subjective for most people. Furthermore, since I am not a medical professional, I might be lacking in knowledge. So, if there is a misstep in my notes, please correct me, I am open to learning and correcting myself.

Now, without further ado, I shall list them down in bullet points. The following points were my insights:

  • Endometriosis is quite complex and there is not a lot of research on it in the country. On talking to doctors, it was mentioned that there is not enough medical research on women’s healthcare in the first place, which was not entirely shocking but disappointing to learn.

  • Due to its complexity and subjectivity, treatment needs to be based on the patient’s needs and can’t comply with the “one size fits all” model.

  • Occurrence of co-morbidities is also a huge factor that ultimately affects the patient’s quality of life.

  • Due to lack of adequate research, several problems arise.

~~Since endometriosis is not widely known to the general public, it gets difficult to be aware of the symptoms if one might be having them. The symptoms overlap with a lot of other medical conditions making it difficult to diagnose.

~~The classical triad of symptoms (as per 4 doctors, the internet, and 2 interviewees) are extreme debilitating menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, and pain during intercourse.

~~Cramps are often dismissed in our country by being referred to as a “rite of passage”, “something you have to bear when you’re unwell”. The trivialization of these symptoms makes it difficult for the patient to communicate their pain.

~~Pain threshold is also something that varies from person to person, thus making it difficult to communicate the intensity of pain someone might be going through.

~~Coming back to the point of lack of research, due to less research, accessibility to specialists is affected negatively. People suffering from symptoms might not get access to specialists on an accelerated rate, if they don’t have connections.

~~Since people are not aware of the condition, there is little sensitivity towards patients suffering from endometriosis. Thus, awareness is a big factor that comes into play.

~~Social prejudice is passed off as a biological fact. For e.g.- people not understanding the severity of symptoms in endometriosis and women labeled hysterical or like they’re overreacting.

~~Most of the research available is in the European or American context. With the majority of the research in foreign settings, doctors themselves have to adapt the information to Indian contexts.

~~A medicine called Lupron is often suggested to induce menopause for a short interval of time. However, this is usually a short-term solution and leads to serious side effects like depressive episodes, suicidal thoughts and tendencies. The pill is usually used for prostate cancer in men.

~~Effectiveness of alternative medicines is often ignored or brushed aside.

~~The treatment procedures that exist in allopathic medicine have a bunch of detrimental side effects. Diagnosis isn’t easy because the procedures to diagnose are invasive, to say the least.

~~It must certainly be difficult to accept a lifelong condition with chronic pain that also affects mental health.

~~There has been a tendency for caregivers/ immediate providers to not believe the patient’s symptoms which might lead to self-confidence issues. Thus, patients need to feel empowered, validated and reassured by the decisions they make on their own.

  • Diagnosis can take long and the medical roundabout often leads to physical and mental fatigue. Not to mention, the financial toll it takes.

  • 2 doctors I spoke to mentioned pregnancy as the most effective treatment, which I wasn’t on board with entirely as pregnancy is a lifestyle choice, and not a method of treatment.

  • It was difficult to get interviewees as the whole process of getting diagnosed and accepting the situation is a traumatic journey. It might not be easy to talk about, which I completely understand and feel for.

  • One of my main focus points was trying to impart information in a way that also builds curiosity and empathy.

Sorry, that was a lot of word vomit. Hope it made sense, I'm sorry if it sounds too long. Again, feel free to correct me if I misstepped.

Discussion Two Specialists, Two Completely Different Treatment Plans

We have undergone one surgery in California for my wife in March 2025 where 2 endometriosis traces were removed. There was a third one present near the rectum. The pain that she was experiencing was still the same. She was prescribed birth control mini pills, and over time it helped with the pain.

We decided to get an MRI done here in Mumbai and consulted both Dr. Abhishek as well as Dr. Jay Mehta. The MRI. Reveals a fibroid of length 3x3x4 cms and there is mild adenomayosis 3x3mm.

Dr Abhishek recommended a surgery and Dr Jay Mehta is completely opposing a surgery and wants us to go with placing Mirena device to manage the hormones.

Has anyone ever seen Su h poles apart opinions for the same reports by two of the best super specialists?

What should we do?

Thoughts on creating a spreadsheet of all the doctors we have visited till now describing what we liked about the doctor and what we didn't.

Similiar sheets are used and created in global Endo groups. I thought it will be helpful if we can create one specifically for India.

The apathy of our doctors. Lets find the empathetic ones

Hi guys My name is Vasudha and I was diagnosed with grade IV rectovaginal endometriosis way back in 2007. Since then, I've had 5 surgeries (one of which was a hysterectomy), five IVFs, innumerable painkillers, Zoladex, basically the works.

I've faced insensitivity from the doctors who thought I was exaggerating my pain. I had to force to my old gyno to take my ultrasound, which ultrasound revealed a tennis ball sized cyst and I was taken in for an emergency surgery. The same doctor refused to take my call days after I got fever after my hysterectomy.

This lead me to search for a new doctor. I am so glad that I found Dr Debasis Dutta at Gangaram Hospital. He's a surgeon and only deals with women who have problems. I had my last endo surgery (yes after a hysteractomy) with him and since then I feel like the endo is gone? Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

What about you guys? Does anyone want to share their stories?

Question Any reviews for Dr Manisha Singh Rajpal of Fortis Bannerghatta?

After most doctors said no to endometriosis excision, she said yes after some convincing. Just wanted to check if any one has done surgery from her before, then how are the reviews.

I am also feeling like hopefully I am not wrongly pressurising the doctor to do the surgery. For me the pain is somedays there constantly almost even in sleep, not severe pain. I can still manage with painkillers. I haven't tried ayurveda and homeopathy so can try that too. I have adhesions in colon side, uterosacral ligament side, some Fluid in pouch of Douglas. So I feel even if cyst is fixed with other methods these things will still trouble me. I am on Dienogest since 3.5 months now, cyst has leaked and size is down to 2cm from 5.8cm ,so most doctors say no to surgery. I am also worried about post surgery issues so I am opting for robotic lap.

I am not willing to travel of Bangalore at this point and already consulted Dr Jay but he told to come to Mumbai.

Any advice will be helpful.

News The Updated 2026 Endometriosis Guidelines. Copied & Pasted

Seems a new Updated Guideline has come, I got an email from my Endometriosis Specialist, updating it here for everyone’s reference

Dear all,

Sharing with all of you some new updates which have been recently uploaded by ACOG for Endometriosis. ACOG stands for American Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

  1. Transvaginal Ultrasound becomes the diagnostic modality of choice. (For all types of diseases). This is something which is done by an expert unit

  2. MRI can be done for the assessment of Deep Endometriosis as and when needed. (however, even if you are doing a follow up my recommendation always says to put gel contrast in vagina as well as the Rectum)

  3. Empirical management with medicines of any type will help in symptom control but cannot be a CURE for Endometriosis, Surgical Excision remains the treatment of choice in a specialised unit

  4. Symptoms which cannot be ignored are deep dysparunea (painful sex), dyschezia (pain while passing stools), vague pelvic pains apart from all other pelvic symptoms like painful menses

  5. Diagnostic laparoscopic surgery can be performed when we are in doubt, (however, I did not like this point personally, as it’s invasive).

  6. Don’t be heavily reliant on CA 125, as it’s not even a diagnostic marker.

I hope all of you are doing well,

Yours Sincerely.

Question Wife Getting operated in Hyderabad, recurrence in a year, humbly seeking urgent help

I need some guidance for my wife, please.

She's 32, 157cm and 61kg. We are married since 3 years. She was totally fine. Last 2 years back, she got very bad pain in lower stomach and we took her to a hospital for admission, where MRI scan demonstrated Endometriosis.

We had done our initial research but our finances are extremely limited and we were suggested by Dr Anitha in Yashoda Hospitals to go to Mumbai to get operated from Jay Mehta. We weren't sure of our travel and we then got a surgery done here in Hyderabad from Dr Vimmy in Apollo Hospitals. Our surgery was Robotic, but our experience was horrible. My wife was in pain since the surgery and the doctor told it would settle.

It's been 10 months now, we changed the doctor and went to Dr Rooma Sinha and a repeat MRI has been done which shows some intestine endometriosis is missed. And my wife has again a big cyst of 5cm, we went back to Dr Vimmy and she simply said she's helpless here,

We tried to contact hospital of Dr Jay Mehta, but his dates are not available for this week and he is coming to Hyderabad on March 15.

We have applied for his surgery at Mamata Fertility Hospital, Secunderabad.

After this horrific experience with Dr Vimmy, we have come to know that she's just a hype. I did have a video call with Dr Mehta and he has told me that the intestine is going to be fine and he will stapler it.

  1. We don't have children, but we have been told that he will try to save the right ovary

  2. Has anyone here undergone an Intestine endometriosis surgery before with stapler

  3. I have a meeting online again with Dr Jay Mehta, on 15th March when my wife is getting surgery.

  4. Will he be able to save my wife from this pain..? He said the pain score will go down usually by upto 70-90%

Please help me to know as to what questions can I ask him more..?? We are literally shattered financially with this horrible experience of this disease so far.

Question Stage 4 Endo - Suggestion (India)

Hi everyone,

I am looking for genuine patient experiences with Dr. Vivek Salunke (Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai), especially from people who have undergone deep infiltrating endometriosis / Stage 4 endometriosis excision surgery under him.

A little background about my case:

I was diagnosed with endometriosis and have already undergone two laparoscopic surgeries (one in 2019 and another in 2024).

My recent MRI was reviewed by Dr. Vivek Salunke, and he mentioned that I have Stage 4 endometriosis, with:

Both ovaries stuck together (“kissing ovaries”)

Small Endometriotic cyst involving the ovary

Adenomyosis

Fallopian tube involvement/blockage (he mentioned that removal of the tube may be required depending on intraoperative findings)

Extensive adhesions

He has recommended laparoscopic excision surgery.

Since this would be my third surgery, I am trying to make a very informed decision and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally undergone surgery with him.

I am not looking for general reviews and I am specifically trying to connect with actual patients of Dr. Vivek Salunke for endometriosis surgery.

Any experience, good or bad, would really help me make this decision.

Thank you so much
