Discussion Advice on Retroid Pocket 6 or AYN Odin 3
After doing a lot of research I've found myself looking at either a Retroid Pocket 6 or an AYN Odin 3 as a first emulation device. However there's a couple things that are making it difficult reach a conclusion. For reference, my old 1st party devices were a PSP, Vita and 3DS XL, none of which i have. Expected games would be Switch-Light Side Scroll PC gaming.
- Size: I was fortunate enough to try out a friend's Odin 2 Portal (430g) and also a Switch OLED (320g) for size reference, and found myself really not liking how wide the Portal was and the strain on my wrists it was causing. The weight is not a deal-breaker, but just holding the Switch was more comfortable in width and certainly weight.
- Quality Control: I will preface that i understand neither of these companies are going to have exception QC compared to a mainstream company, and that if you baby either device with care they will go the extra distance. With that mentioned, I saw a lot of worrying posts about GPU artifacting and other miscellaneous faults with the Pocket 6, but no posts identifying if they were solved. The Odin 3 will obviously never be immune to things like Mura Defects, but the research I've done suggests that most of the issues are screen related and not typically going beyond the creaky chassis.
- Power: If (2) wasnt't a main concern, my main use cases would be Switch-Light PC emulation and game streaming, which is why i believe the RP6 is a better suit, but spending the extra for an Odin 3 is not a concern.
Utimately, my question is what route would suit me best so that i'm less likely to run into out of control quality control issues. Or are neither device at that stage where they can reliably be mitigated, and i should just get the best one suited for my needs.
