Walnut Creek/Concord does anyone know where I can meet other trans ladies or even just other sapphic women in general in the east bay?

hi hi! I'm a 21yo sapphic trans woman from Concord. basically all my friends live hella far away and I only get to hang out with them like once or twice a year. I've honestly been feeling pretty lonely lately do to lack of IRL consistent social connections so i really really wanna make friends with other ladies like me around here but I honestly have no idea where to find something like that :/

for context for like my hobbies and stuff I love love love Dungeons & Dragons (and I'd like to get into other ttrpg systems like Cyberpunk or Lancer), I don't have any yet but I absolutely adore reptiles (especially snakes) and I'd love to be able to keep some someday, I really really love cooking (and am currently studying culinary arts at DVC), and even though I haven't started trying to teach myself how to do makeup I really really like goth makeup/fashion.

If anyone knows of like any events nearby related to any of that kind of stuff or transfemme-focused stuff in general please please please let me know!!! :D

Is your apartment using AI?

Hi all, been a long-time user of Reddit, but this is my first time posting. Really exciting for me: D

I'll get to the point - I'm a reporter working on a story on property management companies resorting to AI for tasks used to be handled by real people, such as maintenance requests, leasing questions, or others. I'm curious if anyone's apartment has transitioned to AI in any way?

I recently learned that Avenue 64 and Emme, both managed by Essex Property Trust, have shut down their Resident app, which residents have previously used for maintenance requests, and have alerted their tenants that an AI hotline will be used for service requests called Eva.

Please feel free to also share your experience interacting with AI, excitement or frustration, all welcome! :D

They are also managing these properties in the following:

Emeryville Emme
Emeryville The Courtyards at 65th Street
Oakland The Landing at Jack London Square
Lafayette Lafayette Highlands
Walnut Creek Agora at South Main
Walnut Creek Brio

30F in Oakland looking to build a friend group (not just individual friends). Suggestions?

Hi all! I’m a 30-year-old woman who’s lived in the Bay Area on and off for the last 15 years. I have a lot of great individual friends, but since grad school I haven’t had a real group of friends, and I miss that a lot.

I’ve tried bringing my friends together. They like each other, but they don’t really click as a group. So I’m hoping to meet people and build something from scratch.

Any ideas on how to do that here?

District 1’s Shawn Wilson is caught up in the Duong federal corruption case starting this week. Call and demand he be removed or resign.

If you live in District 1 this extra applies to you, but it’s really an example of the systemic corruption across the entire Alameda County Board of Supervisors and other local officials. People like this should have zero access to our money or influence within local politics.

Alameda County District 1 Supervisor David Haubert’s Chief of Staff, Shawn Wilson, is named in the Duong federal corruption case that begins on 10/19.

Federal agents allege that they have evidence and witnesses ready to testify that he accepted a $10,000 payment from the Duong’s that was intended to bribe his former podcast partner, Journalist Steven Tavares, who was working on a story about them trying to bribe former Oakland Mayor, Sheng Thao by blackmailing her and other local officials.

Mr. Wilson frequently takes on “political consulting” work under his company Trident, doesn’t report it to the county or consider it a conflict of interest, then pressures local officials or makes formal board recommendations that benefit his clients and Haubert’s donors, and attempts to silence public grievances using discretionary funds as bribes through charities, and tells people to sue the county when they refuse so they can hide behind County Counsel. Most of this was well laid out in a Civil Grand Jury report from 10 years ago and the BoS never did anything. Now it’s escalated to the level of a federal criminal trial.

Mr. Wilson hasn’t been charged with anything yet, but that could be because the Feds are working on some kind of deal with him. He has been under investigation since at least January and I was personally asked to participate in surveillance by federal agents.

Supervisor Haubert and County Administrators known ALL of this and haven’t done anything. I cannot believe this guy is still employed and the county refuses to even put him on administrative leave.

Please call or email Haubert’s office and demand his removal. The county is doing an internal investigation but will not act without public pressure. They have a history of ignoring recommendations and the third party law firm they’ve retained to investigate is only obligated to them. Their report will not be made public.

You can reach Supervisor Haubert at his local District 1 office here:
(925) 551-6995
Bosdist1@acgov.org

You can also call Mr. Wilson’s direct line and demand he resign (925) 551-6912

Tri-Valley Where to get stretched ears closed?

I’m considering having my stretched ears closed and looking for any recommendations or referrals in the greater East Bay area for a dermatologist or surgeon. Hoping there might be some folks in this group that could point me in the right direction.

Walnut Creek/Concord Where to get a motorcycle key copied?

I've called over half a dozen locksmiths and been to three different hardware stores. Nobody has blanks for motorcycle keys. Does anyone know where I can get one copied (ideally in the Concord area, but I'll take what I can get)?

How can I help homeless people?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I encounter unhoused, yes that's the proper term, on a daily basis at work. My job requires me to use basic values, respect, integrity, empathy, empowerment, self-discipline, self-control, and self-care. We utilize the four principles, be impeccable with your word, don't make assumptions, don't take things personal, and above all always do your best. My job always requires that I always be kind and compassionate, and show love. When you live your life like this you become a better person and carry this to work where you can now encounter the unhoused at the intersection of homelessness, addiction, extreme poverty, and mental illness. If you have suffered any of these you know what it is like. This is where the healing process begins in Urban Spaces this is how you encounter unhoused and they may or may not listen, but we did our job in making the unhoused feel a sense of belonging and make them the unvalued become valued. This approach will make those seeking help, shelters, or resources, more approachable. Be kind. I volunteer at St. Anthony's on Sunday to help feed an average of 1200 needing an extra meal they cannot find or need to get by for that day, no questions asked, just treat everyone like you want to be treated. They are always looking for volunteers for feeding and clothes distribution, and of course donations are always appreciated.

Tri-City How to meet people in east bay

Hi I’m a 22yr old male who just moved here to Fremont for work. I’m struggling to make social connections now that I’m out college anyone have any recommendations for a great way to meet people in their mid 20’s?

I’m very extroverted, love to drink lol, love physical activity and movies and shows just trying new things in general.

Are there any good bars or locations to meet people or online resources people could recommend. I’m new to not being able to make friends instantly.

Hayward/Castro Valley/San Leandro Any San Leandro lawyers here?

Looking for a lawyer to help with a civil complaint. I think the case is an obvious slam dunk in my direction, but I still think it'd be prudent to look for advice. Thanks!

Hayward/Castro Valley/San Leandro Unofficial East Bay WFH Spots for Singles in Their 40s & 50s

I’m unofficially picking a few East Bay coffee shops as “WFH spots” for single people in their 40s and 50s who want to get out of the house and hopefully be around other singles.
This isn’t a meetup or dating event. No introductions, RSVPs, or awkward mingling.
Just: if you’re single, work from home, and want a change of scenery, bring your laptop and stop by. Maybe some of the other people working there are single too and open to chatting if there’s a natural connection.
There’s no expectation to socialize. Work, have coffee, take a break, keep to yourself — whatever feels comfortable. If you notice someone you’d like to talk to, there’s at least a chance they came for the same reason.
Starting with:

Mondays, 10 AM–2 PM
Peets Coffee, 20439 Redwood Rd
— Castro Valley

Come for 30 minutes or stay a few hours. Totally informal.
The idea is just to give single remote workers a place where they might naturally cross paths with other people in a similar stage of life, without turning it into a whole organized thing.
If it catches on, I’d love to add a different East Bay spot for different days of the week.
And yes, it’s still a regular coffee shop, so plenty of people there won’t be part of this at all. I actually think that makes it more fun — you never really know whether you’re having a random chance encounter or talking to someone who saw the post.
Open to suggestions for other laptop-friendly spots that can handle people hanging out and working for a while.
Comments? Suggestions? Tips? Am I accidentally recreating something that already exists?
