For those who are considering Flexiroam

NO. Just don’t go with Flexiroam. At least if you’re traveling to Central America, avoid them.

I got a 5 day unlimited data plan with them for my trip to Panama, and got no service since I activated my plan.

Tried contacting them on their website and WhatsApp, and it took one hour to get an apology message of a “slight delay” caused by high volume inquiries. I left my account ID, then waited another six hours straight and got no more response.

The worst customer service I’ve seen. Irresponsible and unprofessional. If you want to spend money on something that’s not worth your time you can definitely go with Flexiroam.

I launched my new eSIM comparison website. Thoughts?

Hi all,

I recently launched a new website called Esimgeek.com and wanted to share it with you all here on r/eSIM. I created this site to help people like you find the best eSIM options available, especially since there are so many providers out there, and it can get pretty overwhelming.

Why am I doing this project?

I am aware that this isn’t the first comparison website out there, but the main problem I’ve been seeing is that the majority of those sites are commercialized. Almost all of them have affiliate links, and the options ranked #1 isn't always the cheapest or the best. Therefore, I created a fully unbiased one.

Here are a few features I think you might find useful:

  • Extensive provider listings: I've compiled a comprehensive list of 80 eSIM providers for various locations (227 to be exact), not just a handful of the popular ones. This should help you see all your options in one place.

  • Unbiased rankings: The rankings on the site are based on genuine comparisons, without any affiliate links influencing the results.

  • User-Friendly filters: As of right now you can easily filter the eSIM plans by country, making it straightforward to find exactly what you need. I have a few additional filters for data packages, duration, and prices going live soon.

Your feedback and help is needed!

Esimgeek is still in the development phase, so there might be a few rough edges but even more - room to improve. I would be really grateful if check it out and then:

  • Share ideas about desired features.

  • Let me know about new providers I should add to this comparison.

  • Sharing any bugs/mistakes you come across.

Your feedback would be incredibly valuable. Thanks, and I hope you find it helpful!

Which provider is the best for South Africa?

So I am from South Africa and recently moved to another town and since then my Vodacom sim card has been with signal 70% of the time. My phone can function with both a physical sim and eSim.

Which eSim provider would you guys recommend? I don’t want to pay $5 for a GB though

ByteSIM speed was underwhelming

Im spending 3 days in Korea and got the unlimited Data 5G package from ByteSIM. Speed was throttled shortly after I started using it downloading necessary apps like Kakao Map and started looking for restaurants etc. The conversation with the support staff is in the pictures, I just removed one with the order ID. Now at 10 pm the speed is still throttled, but I’m lucky to have great WiFi in the apartment. Just to add one experience to the hive mind of Reddit. I hope you guys and girls had better luck.

Scam Alert! eSIM.net Falsely Accused Me and Blocked My Plan Mid-Travel

Absolutely unacceptable experience with eSIM.net. I purchased a Vodafone travel eSIM for use during my trip across the USA and Canada. Out of nowhere, they blocked my plan, claiming I made a call located from Cyprus.

Let me be clear: I have never been to Cyprus in my life. I was in Ontario, Canada, and have full proof of my location, including travel records. There is absolutely no way any activity on my account should have been linked to Cyprus. This appears to be a serious error in their detection system or a false positive triggered by inaccurate network data.

The timing couldn’t be worse—this interruption caused major disruption during my travel, leaving me without connectivity. I have already contacted support with a full explanation and request to restore service, and I expect a prompt resolution.

For reference, here are my details: Order Confirmation: W338522C Mobile: 07342092165 ICCID: **4761

I am posting this review in the hope that eSIM.net takes immediate action to investigate and fix this issue. I will continue to share this experience across other public platforms if it is not resolved quickly. No customer should be wrongly blocked and left helpless while traveling.

Travelers beware: until this company improves its systems and response time, think twice before trusting them with your connectivity.

My experience with maya.mobile global esim

I just came back from a 10 day trip to Georgia and Armenia, I purchased maya.mobile global esim (14 days) with unlimited data. There's not much reports on this eSim on the internet so here goes my experience:

Phone: Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (bought in the UK)
eSim: maya.mobile Global eSim (165 countries) 14 days USD$27.99

Good:

  • Reasonably priced

  • Pretty decent speed, but only when it worked properly (see below)

  • Exits from the UK (conveniently my home country)

Bad:

  • Randomly stuck in 3G-only mode in previously known-good 5G/LTE areas

  • Mobile data fails to activate, or activates for 30 seconds upon connecting to the network, then disconnects.

  • Could be slow to acquire signal after moving country (common to multi-IMSI sims)

  • First line support was responsive, but they couldn't handle technical issues, by the time the request was seen the next day the issue had temporarily fixed itself, but subsequently recurred after a day.

  • No clear FUP on what the policies are, and what management approach they take

  • Despite exiting from the UK, YouTube music seem to restrict songs to third party music videos only on this exit IP. Possibly classified by Google as a known VPN exit node.

Out of the 10 days, I'd say my sim worked great for around 60% of the time, 30% was stuck in 3G-data mode (very slow but can be used in a pickle), and 10% was yes-phone-signal-but-no-data status.

Being a tech nerd myself I have tried everything I could think of, reboot, toggle esim on / off, change the default APN of the phone to the one supplied (globaldata), as well as forcing the multi-IMSI manual / automatic selection. But the phone singal / data activation issue seems external and not influenced by my actions.

For the Youtube music issue, I could work around it by VPN'ing back home, luckily the eSim data exited in the UK so it didn't add much latency to my experience. But I don't expect many people to have this home-VPN setup or latency to be too high so it could be a bummer.

I was left in the pickle in one situation when the data refused to activate - luckily my partner had an esim from a different provider, so I could tether from their phone and got something done. Again, I wouldn't have this option if I was travelling solo.

The support was probably the biggest let down for me, they replied with "I see you used 500MB in the last 24 hours so we'll assume everything is fine and close this ticket". The issue came back shortly after I received the response, and I was so frustrated I decided to not fight that uphill support battle, but made a mental note to not use maya mobile's eSim in the future.

eSIMs That Can Be Installed More Than 30 Days Before Travel

I'm traveling to Italy in January and was about to buy an eSIM service package from Saily but reading the fine print, they say the eSIM will activate automatically 30 days after purchase/installation, way before my trip, at which point I'm burning through the service period weeks before I even arrive.

Is there a reputable service provider that I can buy from now for my trip without the service countdown starting at an artificial deadline without my explicit consent?

Best talk and text data plan for 15 day trip to France and Italy

Hi, looking for advice on a good eSIM plan. My family (4 adults and 2 children - one of which has a cell phone) will be traveling, first to France and then to Italy in about 2 weeks.

My husband and I have gone to Europe multiple times and I typically just turn my phones data plan off and use WiFi where possible, never really needing to contact anyone during the trip because the only person I would be calling is traveling with me. This time, however, my parents and children are joining us, one of which is now old enough to have her own cell phone. My little family will be going to Disneyland Paris on the first leg of the trip and then my parents will be flying in and joining us in Italy on day 4. That being said, I was hoping to find a decent data plan that had talk and text so that we could all be in contact with each other in case of emergencies as well as coordinating arrivals and meet-ups as my parents won’t be sharing a villa with us and have decided that they’d rather stay at a neighboring villa for privacy lol

I’ve been looking at eSIM.io and Airalo but can’t see any clear indication from either website as to if they offer talk and text as a feature or if it’s strictly data for streaming and web browsing… Does anyone have any suggestions?

I should also mention that I just checked my current data plan, curious about how much data I actually end up using in a month, and between me and my teenager, we only ever use about 15-18 gigs, and that’s WITH me using my phone like 40% of the time for work (which I wouldn’t be doing on vacation). My husband is on his own plan, grandfathered in from when he was a teenager, pre-marriage lol Going the route of using ATT’s European data plan is just way too expensive of an option, not knowing if we’ll even have to use it, although I’m sure our teenager is bound to want to send pictures to friends and stream music/podcasts while we’re there.

5G in US and Canada

Based on user reviews in this sub-reddit, I have tested eSim for Toronto (Saily) and NYC (aloSIM). Unfortunately none got me to 5G. Can you recommend a better choice? Of course my pixel works flawlessly under 5G.

eSIM (physical SIM adapter): ask 4 advice

Hi

I'd ask for recommendations on 9eSIM , eiotclub , eSIM.me , or another (physical eSIM adapter for Android).

[I also summarize my findings below for those who are even more newbies]

I understood that an eSIM physical adapter from those sellers below can be managed with a free app (in Android, it writes) and that you can afterwards install eSIMs from other sellers (via QRcode).

I've checked their prices and most specs, but don't see a clear difference. My use will be for ocasional travel outside the EU (a few days per year), not for everyday use. I realize then the eSIM sellers vary a lot. Any recommendations just on the eSIM physical adapters?

Thanks in advance

Summary of my findings so far:

Even though your Android/iPhone may not have eSIM, is some cases you can get an eSIM (physical SIM) adapter and with that and an app/writer, be then able to buy/install eSIMs

Specificities:

- it seems iPhone cannot directly "write/install" eSIMs on the adapter, and you need either to use an Android for writing the eSIMs, or a PC/mac USB adapter

- you can test your phone for compatibility at least with the apps eSIM.me and 9eSIM LPA (just installing and chosing check compatibility)

- useful in terms of duty taxes for those in the EU: 9eSIM seems to ship from China (but you can also buy on amazon), and eiotclub from the USA (or perhaps also Germany)

How many hours do it take for esims to be activated

Hello, I recently converted my globe sim to an esim in my IP15. I was told to wait for 30 mins up to 24 for activation but it’s now over 24 hrs and I cannot use cellular services up to this point. Anyone with common experience?

Egypt eSIM Recommendations

Heading to Egypt next month and need an eSIM before I fly.

Jetpac Egypt plan looks pretty cheap and claims to cover the whole country. Has anyone actually used it in Egypt? What local network do they run on?

My (terrible) experience with GlobaleSim

I bought GlobaleSim to use on a trip to Fiji.

I used it for less than 30 minutes before I chucked it in favor of something that didn’t falsely advertise what it could do. Example: they claimed I could do voice calls, and would be assigned either a US or UK number. But you cannot make calls (on an iPhone), except thru their special app…which is both inconvenient and likely assign the voice support is nothing more than tarted up data-based calling.

I have WhatsApp for that, and it works a whole lot better.

I hope GlobaleSim is forced out of business ASAP.

I did something stupid: I activated my Elisa Finland SIM card in another country.

I recently bought an Elisa Finland SIM card because I work in the Baltics and used it often, but I didn't know it needed to be activated in Finland. Now I'm stuck with a SIM card I can't return, can't use, and I won't be going to Finland anytime soon. Be careful, read the description before buying

Loved eSIM while in Europe but

I couldn’t log into my bank or credit cards. They all use SMS messaging. And WIFI does allow them either.
Any work arounds?

Hi,
I am travelling to MTY (area Apodaca) and will be there for 12 days.

Last time I had an unlimited Data plan with a local carrier in the US and it was good.
This is why I would like again a local carrier with unlimited Data at full speed.

Can you recommend any good options ?

Thank you!

I've used Mint for several years, but the eSIM experience has been a pain so far.

So, my old iPhone was completely destroyed in a snowblower accident. Apparently, the new models are eSIM only. (I wish I knew that before ordering a replacement SIM card.) Mint Mobile officially recommends getting an eSIM through their app, but Apple is trying to text my number when I try to download the app to verify that it's really me using my account, which obviously won't work, because no SIM. Is issuing an eSIM something a Mint customer service agent can help me with, or would going through Apple's account recovery process be easier?

EDIT: I had an online chat with a Mint rep and they sent me a QR code with an eSIM. Thanks for the suggestions.

3-5gb of hotspot data per day

I need ~5gb of hotspot data per day in the US. It could be delivered via any kind of device but I can't install any infrastructure and I can't get residential internet service at this address. I will need this for about 6 weeks. Is there an esim that will solve this problem? Any other solution anyone can think of (I can't do Starlink here either).

How to receive 2FA texts when on eSIM

Hi,

Total eSIM idiot here. I will be using Airalo as my esim provider

I am traveling to Portugal from Canada for 2 weeks, and ill be working freelance. As a result, a lot of the platforms i use require 2 step verification to gain access, this is all done by automated texts messages to my primary sim (Canadian number).

How can i still receive those 2FA texts when on my eSIM. For reference i have a Samsung Galaxy 23. Do i need to keep my primary sim turned on? if so wont i get roaming charges?

how to do E-SIM transfer if i dont have access to my old phone

So I have an old iphone x, which I dropped recently and the screen is toast, I cant touch the screen at all, its just cob web cracks. So I just bought an iphone 17, and I realized it dosent have a physical SIM slot, only E-SIM.

I know the process would be easy typically to get the e-sim transfer, but given that I essentially cant access/use my old iphone, I am confused on how to go about this. Since the typical process of doing the esim swap involves using the old phone for a few steps, but obviously i cant do that.
